I forgot about Trader Vic’s until we went that night. Definitely a memorable experience!
Colonel Gentleman so good 2 hear your text out of your room!
Dude love the humor and history! I never heard of this place, would definitely try it. Tiki Studies sounds like something I should have majored in 😊
Fantasticly done my friend!!!
…such a delight on finding this channel. Oh how I love Trader Vic’s and it’s glory on it’s unabashed sphere of authenticity. I grew up in the Peninsula of the SF Bay Area where my folks frequented the one at Dinah’s Garden Hotel in Palo Alto and at times took us along. That started my love affair with kitsch and cocktail soirées. Sad to say it had closed down but I’m so thankful for the Magnuson’s to have shared it with us. If in the SF area check out the Tonga Room at the Fairmont, our family’s pied a tier is right across from it and the happy hours are fire!
Thank you so much! Oh I assure you, the Tonga room is 100% on my list for next time I'm in the city by the Bay ;)
Always happy to make the acquaintance of another tiki fan! Here in florida, we have a whole bunch of places that call themselves tiki bars, but the East Coast version of tiki tends to be 90% Caribbean themed, fake grass roofs, fake bamboo poles, and ridiculously painted tiki masks. Boooo...
@@SplorinRyan …another fun space is The Alibi Tiki Lounge in Portland. OR. It is pure divine overload. But one of my best experience was in the ‘90’s in Medford in the south part of Oregon at this good ole Chinese-American Joint named Kim’s which was a lavishly decked 1950’s vision of Chinatown where inside had booths with red vinyl seats, a menu to die for and their house pink sauce to top it all. On my first visit, I was told to order Mar Far Chicken, ain’t got a clue what it was but seated behind us was a well coiffed lady who was a little shop worn holding a cigarette telling me it’s good. So I had to ask her what her favorite was and quickly she replied “Vodka Tonic” as she cackles while exhaling a plume of smoke. We had a blast.
@@skymuffn ohhh... Wasnt familiar with that one ... Adding it!
You know, it's funny, until I made this video, I had absolutely no idea how many trader Vic's locations had opened up in the 2000s enclosed in less than 10 years... Have you ever been to a trader Vic's? Did you or city have one?
I was just there awhile ago and the place was hopping. The food and drinks were amazing and the decor was just as awesome. I did a full tour video to show just how old-school and traditionally fun this place has always been. Very cool spot for anybody to stop by for a good time for the taste buds.
This was amazing, nice job! Now I know a little more about Trader Vic's.
Thanks Brother! This one was definitely more of a passion project LOL
Awesome job!!
Exposition Time is my favorite time
HEY SPLORIN RYAN...YOW! I AM SO TAKEN BY THE BACKGROUND of the genre. Man, you tell it so well. You have got to cover something there in central Florida that has serious overtones and do an ominous , totally foreboding with no dry humor vlog because your voice would lend it total reverence. I am really enjoying your work pal and I know your channel is gonna take off. Thanks for the Trader Vics history.
You know I appreciate you brother, right? Thank you so much!
Working on something along the lines of what you recommended actually!
Totally awesome Uncle Ryan Uncle Ryan! As always thx 4 taking us all along on this Tiki Tiki adventure without the fun part of the rum 😢
Baby that's the other reason they're not doing so well financially? ;)
Catching up- sorry I missed the last two vlogs- going to watch now 👍🏻 Happy Halloween! Ok cool- the Tiki place (Trader Vic’s) from DragonCon- the drinks and food looked yummy and as always, great narrative Ryan!👍🏻👍🏻😎🫶🏻
Super well done video!! Really enjoyed hearing about all of this that I had no clue of before.
Thanks brother!
@@SplorinRyan You’re welcome!!
I had the exotic sweet ice tea! LOL. I am glad we got to eat there, hopefully a new tradition.
Superb video
Thank you so much 😀
I find Tiki really interesting. From what I understand the very first Tiki style bar opened after prohibition ended. Tiki became mainstream pop culture after WW2 ended. By the late 70s or early 80s most of the Tiki bars had closed down. Over the last 20 years things that are considered "mid century" have become fashionable. Rockabilly, classic cars, Tiki, etc. Nowadays there are a lot of new Tiki bars and mid century conventions.
I really wish Orlando had a better tiki scene. We've picked up a couple over the last couple of years which is nice since we didn't have anything outside of Disney World for nearly a decade, but most of our tiki bars are just small rooms at the back of other bars so even though it's kind of iffy
I’ve been to the Emerivile location. Great drinks, soso food and customer service.
I've heard that and honestly it's disappointing!
This cultural sensitivity has gone to far. We should protest Cracker Barrel for stereotyping rural Americans. McDonald’s for clown shaming. Burger King for promoting monarchy.
I mean, I think a lot of us already do some clown shaming...I know I spend most of my weekends shaming clowns... Dirty... Stinking... clowns.
