The original #AudiQ7 was Audi's first attempt at building an SUV and it was such a successful vehicle, #Audi kept the #Q7 around for nearly a decade before introducing a replacement. When the new model was introduced in 2017, it didn't have the same stand-out design as the original model because it looked too much like a hatchback and less like an SUV that would compete with Range Rovers. For 2020, Audi is rectifying that but giving the Q7 the most comprehensive refresh that've ever done without a full redesign while introducing a new fire-breathing #AudiSQ7 for the first time with up to 500 HP from a new 4.0L twin-turbo V8.
I've had the 2017 for more than 3 years. Still like it but could be better. Very quick though and comfortable. My 2017 has better gas mileage than the 2020.
One of the best car review guys! Thanks. Respect from South Africa
U r not from SA
I'm from South Africa though!
I can attest to fitting 3 car seats across in the Q7 in our 2018 model. LATCH in all 5 rear seats is an added bonus!
It may be just me, but I would take the upcoming GV80 over this for a couple of reasons:
1.) RWD structure with AWD and an E-LSD
2.) 100,000 Powertrain warranty
3.) I prefer the design of the GV80
4.) very exquisite interior (subjective)
5.) PROBABLY more reliable in the long run
My guess is that the GV80 will be predictably more reliable as well. I like the design of the genesis interior and exterior much better. I never say that about the interior of an Audi but the piano black is too much shine. I would have to sit in both to decide but based on what I've seen I'd take the gv80
gabe villarreal Not only that, but the base 2.5 4 cylinder will probably max out at around 57k or 58k while the Bi-Turbo V6 will probably max out at around 65k which is already a value in itself since a Lexus RXL tops at round the mid 60s
The only reason why people won't get GV80 is because thats a Hyundai. Whatever, I dont care, love those korean brands love genesis
Byron Nasem Don’t just look these things, the ride quality and feeling is totally different between Audi and Genesis. Plus, Audi is German brand!
Bihao Jiang Contrary to belief, not everyone wants a German vehicle, especially for the bare minimum you get at a big price point. You think a base 4 cylinder Q7 is all this “supreme” German vehicle when it’s filled with plastic, feaux leather, and other things??!? Please, to get that feeling you drastically want, you have to get the mid to high specked Q7s. Additionally, this facelift doesn’t convince me that this is better than a GV80. If anything, it looks cheap with all of the piano black plastic.....so guess what? You can keep your pathetic ass base 4 cylinder German that’s “superior”....
I completely disagree. I think the new Audi interiors are far more luxurious than Volvo and bmw. Only rivaled by Mercedes. And still wouldn’t even compare Lincoln and much less genesis.
Coming from a BMW owner, I 100% agree.
My 2019 Q7 came from the factory with 22’s. So yeah, it was an option before the refresh. I hate they are taking away the buttons. Touch screens look nice, but in traffic and on rough roads they can be distracting.
The touchscreen is terrible- it requires a firm touch unlike smartphone screens and can pose risk to attentive driving.
I wish Audi would cover the cup holders in the center console like they do in other markets.
Audi has the best grill, and one of the best interior.
Yep 👍, but the exterior not so much , just the plastic grill 🤔, well they need to work half back to the suv , need to lift the rear roof , too low for the seven seaters persons to attract buyers, to much money just for a interior and a grill after that nothing else !!!
.net
I’d prefer the pre facelift because of the interior and subtle design, I also prefer the interior. I still think many people will cherish the new q7 for years to come. (Or Until the warranty ends)
Reliability isn't that much of an issue these days with Germans. Most use proven transmissions and engine from other luxury models. Audi shares parts with Porsche and they have reliable engiens. A3 and Q3 share Golf GTI engine and its proven platform with the 8 speed.
I can't stand the fake exhaust trim. I've also noticed that when two exhausts come out from a single muffler one of those is trim. I've seen this on BMW, Toyota's Camry's et al. Why even do this.
Mike I’ve seen it. The inside of one pipe top is black and the other is clean.
Apparently their customers complain about the exhaust tips getting dirty. So now, they use fake ones.
I have an old fully loaded 2010 Q7 for 7 years now. I've had the chance to drive pretty much all of the Q7s while my car is dropped off for maintenance (loaner cars). I'll just say that I would never invest in an Audi again. It doesn't make sense price wise, these other companies have caught up in design and just about in quality. The mighty have fallen. you will spend about $80k for the one Sofayan is driving in this video right now. That is crazy when you can save about $25k - $30k and invest in a property to pay for the vehicle.
So what else would you consider if you’re shopping for a 3 row luxury SUV?
@@insayn7995 Save your money and stay in the economic range, Hyundai and Kia are right on the money. Get the G-80 if you really want the bells, but spending an additional $30k - $40k for an SUV that basically does the same and performs similar to other SUVs is a little chringey. That extra $30k can remodel your house or rental property.
@@Evolve816 or... Do both if you HAVE the money. Just buy a Celica, you will save much more. I ended going homeless, off the grid and my bank account is ballin!
you realise this is a standard Q7 and not SQ7, right? coz 0--60 in 5.7 sec is really good for the size of the car and for what it is and the suspension on Q7 is a dream and when I say it's a dream, i'm not exaggerating coz I live in india and the roads here are straight bad and it absorb the bumps and potholes like they are nothing. the only issue is the way it looks.
Not close enough. It’s nice, but, the design, still doesn’t have presence. Needs a full redesign, on the outside.
Wrong
@@sappyjohnson he is not wrong, just look at the palissade or the gwagon or the 4runner they all have presence
The vertical lines on the grill ruin the entire facial look.
This isn't a new model just a refresh
@@alanmay7929 you can't be serious.... all of those cars are incredibly fugly compared to the Q7
“Exhaust trim” more like “I cost cut trim”, how the hell does a car manufacturer even approve this design. Looks wise that is a solid 4 or 5 point loss out of 10 overall, and I personally would never think of this suv due to that cut.
Personally I don't like the look either, but I would never allow myself to get that upset over something so minuscule in life.
agreed, it doesn’t look very convincing tbh
Leather stitching is not a thing u less we are talking about baseball gloves. Stop saying “leather stitched”!!! It’s not a thing Sofyan !!!!
I love my supercharged 3.0 !
Cadillac was condemned 7-8 years ago for using the Piano black plastic. Yet it's only mentioned briefly for 6 seconds when Audi does it. Smh.
Cadillac can't touch Audi.
@日産スカイライン you have German cars confused with American cars. The fitting and overall interior is excellent in their perspective classes. Ford Fusion is a highly successful car in its class. It's better than the camery as far as I'm concern. In conclusion, the Germans have superior cars when it comes to tech, ride, handling, styling and upscale materials. That's why you pay for what you get. Only thing touching them and giving them a run for the money is Tesla. Genesis may catch them up. I had a BMW 12 years ago. It's still hard to match it in ride and handle quality. Bug them all. My next car is Tesla or Jaguar.
I so agree and now their interior is lackluster it doesn't look as good they should go back to their original designs big leather seats and piano black
@日産スカイライン we're talking luxury. 3 series is not a luxury car. Both brands. Ford F150 is the number selling car in America. The camery is not the better car over the Fusion. The Fusion is stronger built and smoother ride with nice looking interior that doesn't look plain, hit the Korean cars look better than the Toyota Japanese cars. You can call it bias if you want, but you get what you pay for. The only American brand that can touch Germany is Lincoln and that is barely. They still don't offer as much.
@@roots4x no chip at all. I wouldn't buy the junk. My wife better not bring one home either.
Audi Q7 = the 4 rings of Audi Q7 = two thumbs up ! Cheers ! Slainte' !
I like the previous designed better but love the 2020 interior. This one looks a bit like an Acura MDX.
New MDX seems better, except the touch screens.
This SUV is absolutely beautiful and it has everything that a driver needs. Audi Q5 and Q7 are weird in their sizes. Audi Q5 is bigger than its competitors but Q7 is smaller than its competitors.
15:54 I liked looking through the windows and looking at the view
Just when you thought the Q7 couldn’t look anymore boring...
Audi: 2020 Q7
+ slow+ can’t corner.
So which audi look beautiful to you?
AJ Lee you have a lot to say for someone who can’t afford it.
Yashar you consider Q7s to be unaffordable for the average person? Lol. He wasn’t reviewing a Urus.
As a family of Audi owners, the fake exhausts are so depressing and cheapening. This trend needs to disappear. And don’t get me started on the shitty looking chrome strip.
5: 08
Closing door sounds good .
Sofyan Bey said “ its very important “
The Q7 around 2010 was such a beautifuly elegant car but what now? Modernized but losing its very own kind of beauty year after year just like the BMWs.
I mean hideous.
this is so true, i look at the BMW x5 nowadays and it feels like a KIA. No offence to the company and all but shouldn't luxury brands have their own unique identity
@@roots4x You can't get over the fact that this cheap company has improved greatly over these years and how much stuff/warranty they offer pound for pound. They never stop surprising the automotive world with impressive stuff and designs unlike the German brands that are receiving more and more critics and negative thoughts from the world, especially reliability issues for how much you paid.
I’d choose the Q8 over Q7 all day (I don’t need a third row, so easy choice). I purchased an SQ5 over both Q7 and Q8, and it’s great! I’ll revisit once the SQ8 is available - although it’s a big car also.
Ronnie Zimmerman Q7 is more practical with a bigger cargo area with the 3rd row down. Besides, it is cheaper.
Nowadays lots of “SUV” are more like wagon instead of SUV.
Now you got it do the history of the Nissan Maxima especially the 2003 Maxima
I quite like the Q7, especially this one. I just love the presence it has, but I do agree that the first generation Q7 has a really timeless and elegant design that you can't forget. But I still love the more aggressive styling that Audi went with, and the SQ7 is definitely a great car with that awesome VW group 4.0L V8 that is really needed in such a heavy car.
BMW: Let’s make all of our interiors look the same.
Audi: Great idea, let’s copy BMW.
Mercedes: Ditto
Car Reviewers: lets only bash BMW for this...
AJ Lee the difference is bmw interiors are ass in terms of design and quality. That’s why you see no one praising it.
soooo true. and i feel like BMW’s quality is the best out of the 3
Bmw interiors still look from 2012
Bmw's biggest problem is they use cheap made-in-china materials under the hood - most important area.
I have a 2019 prestige. This has been the best family car for a family of 5. I agree though, back seats need USB and a power outlet like my old Benz had.
From an engine standpoint, it sounds like the 2019 is the one to get. While they last.
I have a 2017 and love it. Much rather have a supercharger vs turbos and would much prefer naturally aspirated if it was possible-better long-term reliability.
Seems the Q7 is in competition with the Mercedes GLE 450 and the BMW X5. Would love for you to consider doing a video comparing the three of them. Thanks.
They'd have to come up with a way more aggressive design to compete with the Lambo. I know it's a huge price difference, but if we're going to be comparing them, looks has got to be one of the main factors. And the Audi just doesn't look as good imo. Especially those rims.
But then again, VW does own both Audi and Lambourghini.
I think I like pre redesign interior a lot more. And older engine:(
Same in buying the 2019 just cuz I don’t like the dual screen layout
What happened to the economy is the hybrid tech. Battery + motor extra weight.
Great review as always. Its exterior is looking sort of boring and unchanged to me. I also like the previous generation better. The new genesus SUV is going to blow it out of the water on the exterior front. I do love what they are doing in the inside of the q7. The new mpg is extremely disappointing. Would be a deal breaker for me.
Can you please do a review of the Audi Q8?
Need a comparison test now.. all three German midsize SUVs are present there.. Let's put Q7 X5 GLE face to face
I would love to see that. That is what we are looking to get. One of the three.
@@Amywazwaz06 well.. Congrats in advance 🎉😇
@@sudiptokanjilal5696 well congrats will be in order when we figure out which one to get. The Audi my son just loves. But it doesn’t yet impress me the best. We already have. CLS 550. And it has a ton of features. Hard to go down from the top. But Mercedes SUV is pretty overpriced I think. My husband says he wants X5. I have to do my homework on it to compare. I hate all this research. You have to learn them all to make the best decision. I have been stalling on deciding for six months. Yuck.
@@Amywazwaz06 6 months! 😄😄 Well no doubt that its confusing.. Bt i wish you will choose the best one among the German trio..since u hv got merc already..you can look for the other 2...Well..frankly speaking.. I would also go for Q7 since it has extra flexibility with seating and extra cargo space as well.. Whereas X5 second row neither can be moved forward backward nor reclined..
But u cn also consider GV80 at your shortlist..
@@Amywazwaz06 which one did u end up getting?
Not a fan of the new grille. The pre refresh model was classy and understated. This is just... not good. It looks like it will be dated in three years.
I like it
I wish Audi could redesign the dash board, those two touch screens reminds of some infinites which looks really awful and ugly
Uzumaki Naruto I think to each its own as far as infotainment screens. A lot of people don’t like two screens a lot of people don’t like tablets and a lot of people don’t like in dash screens
I'd agree with the Aviator comments and would have bought a used one if not for all the electrical problems. 4 year CPO and still passed.
respect to one of my favourites in depth reviewers,
but q7 is competing with the gle and x5
not the gls and x7 as you mentioned couple of times
Senad Bayan but x5 and gle are not three row suv, this q7 is
@@marinne3817
you can get all tree of them with 3rd row
All more suitable for kids, and smaller adults, some more practical than the others ,but same class nevertheless.
Sure Q7 is better in this regard.
The x7 and gls are class above, regarding size, features offered, and also in price, well above q7.
That is why Audi is preparing a car to compete with those mentioned.
Cheers
This is the reason why Q7 is competitive, cuz it has more of space but it costs pretty much same as X5 and gle!
yeah, it's NOT hard. Q3/X1/GLA - Q5/X3/GLC - Q7/X5/GLE I own none of them and I know it cold. Now if Audi had a Q9...we can talk GLS and X7
There are more than double Android Phones compared to iphones and it does not even get a mention. iphones may be popular with reviewers but Android is way more popular. I agree with below this is a X5 and GLE comparison not X7 and GLS for a bunch of reasons. Dont get me wrong I like your reviews very thorough and interesting
I much prefer the interior, especially having button controls, on the prior vehicle.
Very conservative styling, but no doubt it's a solid, well handling, torque impressive machine! But, $75,000>No Way, I will wait 3 years & get that bad boy for $40,000 instead, btw, thank you guys for a great review!
Someone needs to tell Audi that a bunch of air conditioning vents doesn’t make a luxury interior.
And a bunch of piano black plastic
@@eeshunique Nothing is better than real wood for elegance
Bruce Solomon not you because you can’t afford it 🤣.
Yashar that’s like the third time I’ve seen you say that to someone. Are you on welfare or something? A Q7 is not a vehicle the average person can’t afford.
@@RicardoSuarez-gz3uu Ricardo Suarez take pity on Yashar. He’s chalked or something if he thinks that air conditioning vents sprawled across the entire dash represent good taste. There’s something wrong with the guy. It will come out. Trust me. You’ll see.😉
The second gen (2010-2010) Audi Q7 was the best Q7 in my opinion💯
The Q7 looks like it ate a bit too much donuts. It needs to be sculpted in a way so it’s not so chunky looking
Sounds like you still like the out going Q7
The Genesis GV80 is a better package and it looks better too sorry Audi this is what happens when you let your chief designer go to Hyundai......
dre par You mean the GV80?
NileshR12 He probably does lol
@@byronnasem4110 yea I did actually
@@NileshR12 that's a fantastic looking suv though
Tommy is the most interesting about this whole thing tbh wow! Can we review him? Lol .... he is everything!
Audi and VW need to bring the Auto Brake Hold button on their cars in the US
Maybe if this was on a better platform it would compete better. The third row is crucial to be competitive in this segment, and trunk space.
they need to redo the Q7 completely. Probably need to move it upmarket/make it bigger if they want it to compete with the GLS and X7. right now they're in this weird middle space.
Acura did the no tail pipe look on the MDX and rationalized it with the fact cars are going electric blah blah blah..Well they quickly changed it back. Bad move for Audi too, car looks bland now, looks a non performance SUV.
It's not a performance SUV
bologna, and quite honestly thats not the point. It's about styling and the car looks more stylish and aggressive when the exhaust tips show. Americans like the look of the pipes and this was proven when sales dropped on the MDXs.
@@jc51373
You said it "looks [like] a non performance SUV", which the Q7 has never been.
Rationalize much? Again wasn't the point of my statement and I disagree, but latch on to whatever you want and argue about..have at it.
@@jc51373
Actually, I'm completely on topic. Again, you said that the Q7 doesn't look like a performance SUV anymore because they got rid of the visible exhausts pipes. My counter point, the Q7 was never a performance SUV to begin with. It was never a defining characteristic of the model.
If you choose to be in denial, so be it.
get the Aviator instead, or wait for the genesis gv80.
Agree. I took a look at the Lincoln Aviator Black Label today and was completely blown away with how luxurious that SUV. That Aviator is just pure Classic Luxury!
LOVE Palms to Pines highway! A real nice family crossover but too heavy and not dynamic enough.
The interior looks awful doe
Keeping clean.
How do you think it compares
To the previous supercharged motor- sounds like it’s mellowed oit compared to outgoing model -
Take advantage of 2019 discounts
Others have mentioned it and you did in the beginning, it is kind of a bummer that Audis are looking more and more similar. Great video!
Funny I am one of those with OCD about all the fingerprints that show up on my Mercedes wood dash. I like the polished wood but the dust and fingerprints drive me nuts. I have a microfiber cloth in my cubbie to wipe it down often. My husband has been driving it lately. He has no clue and fingerprints and dust are growing everywhere. The weather is crappy right now and I need to wipe it all down soon.
With this kind of moutain road bmw x5 40i 2019 would take care very easy you feel like you're on local streets its torge is very powerful.
I don’t like it. And the solid/sequential turn signal combo is awful. It should be just sequential or just solid.
For a turn signal they have to have one break light lit as soon as the turn signal is on. That’s why mustang is able to do there’s because the first light to light is a Bulb not a little dot like the sequential light on the Audi. It’s a government mandated thing. But I wish it could be the other way around also !
Gino20202 Its a government Regulation.
This one doesn’t have a laser matrix light. HD matrix light looks different.
Were you on Highway 74 during the test drive? Nice road.
It’s so bland it looks so normal and has no presence at all. The Lincoln aviator looks much better IMO
Qais Al Nimry I clearly said aviator and not navigator.
IMO, the XC90 looks a lot more composed and stylish side by side. Little sense of presence on this, especially when then Q8 exists. GV80 will kill it. Good car still, and another sweet review!
I wish Sofyan would say Depth instead of Debt in all of his videos including this own.
If you trying not to sell it you did a great job.
This car failed to be a seven seater i think they should have a space through the two seats to get into the third row to beat the market
Hmmm... I really like the Q7 for it’s space and practicality as a 7-seater SUV, and I hate to say it, but I think the refresh is a little underwhelming; it’s like the old Q7, but taking on the Q8’s design on a bigger scale doesn’t seem to fit. Also I’m not a huge fan of these wheels. I kind of liked the old Q7’s wheels a little better. However I absolutely love the interior of this car; enough said here. I think it’s a pretty good car overall!
I'll definitely take the GLS or the X7 over this. This is kinda "Meh" car right now.
Saravanan M it’s different catagory, Q7 is much much cheaper than GLS and X7
Just because it can seat 7 doesn't mean it compete with GLS and X7. Q7 is competing with X5, XC90 and GLE. If you think like that, it is a very spacious car for its segment.
Awesome review! As always.
I’ve always liked the q7 but this seems outdated already. It needs a full redesign.
Its so hard to get into the third row perhaps two seats with space in middle and third row should have three proper seats to make it family sedan
The q7 is not built as a 7 seater SUV. The third row is installed just for the US market. The q7 is 5 seat luxury SUV
I hope you don't have to actually do any PR for Audi! Lol so funny glad you're not reviewing my product...i love my SQ5 over all other SUV's I've driven!
It's a nice SUV but its cousins are in the upper echelons of SUV world right up there with the Cullinan!
Thanks for uploading the review. Love this car
*Love
I wish they would’ve done tail lights similar to the A7
4:17 lol. Audi has the cutlines on the outsife for no reason. Lolol
FAKE EXHAUSTS? CHROME STRIP? Can these design ERRORS please disappear omg it cheapens the look of a high quality vehicle sooo badly, and I love Audi’s😭
As nice as these are, I'll stick with my 2009 TDI Q7. I only wish the sunroof was a option. Mine had a leak and water got into the electronics, I can only imagine how much worse it will be with all these newer vehicles
I’m really surprised they totally remade the interior! I had a loaner 2019 and the interior was really meh and even though it came out in 2016 it felt very dated.
Not a fan of any gps mapping that requires wifi. there are too many areas in the country where it's not available or intermittent especially in the mountains and desert of the south west, not to mention it's another monthly cost. Is regular stand alone gps available ? If not, I go elsewhere.
A set of 22” alloys an running boards will sort the presence out.
It is competitor for GLE and X5, not GLS and X7
Need an Audi Q9 to compete with the X7. This is too small to be a 3 row SUV.
I’m not the target market for this, so I can’t be too critical. Seems to be a solid choice in the segment.
Guess Audi is committed to the massive grille at this point. There’s basically no body panels on the front end. I like the upper dash screen, but they should’ve kept knobs for the climate and radio. Audi use to be known for their high quality, aluminum knobs that looked great and felt amazing. That bottom screen is a step backwards.
Looks like they’re transitioning to fake exhausts across the board on non-S/RS vehicles. That sucks. Could you imagine BMW doing that to the base 3, 4 or 5 series? I believe only the A3, A4 and A5 currently have visible exhausts. Hopefully they keep them moving forward.
That shiny black plastic honestly just looks cheap. The interior needs some nice warm wood and contrasting [lighter] colors to help soften the 'Darth Vader' mood of this vehicle. The third row seating leaves much to be desired. I'm not sold on this model.
how can you say that the 2017 wasn't enough when basically this new one is just a minor facelift?
So the redesign is to stick the Q8 dash and infotainment system in it?
Soyfan, all these crossovers are hatchback wagons to me.
Except the markups are crazy on crossovers.

Indeed but if I had a big family I rather buy an SUV than a station wagon or a minivan. Think about it

Audi went south on this one.
Why is Q7 smaller than Atlas which is much cheaper? Atlas has larger 3rd row.
Maserati Lavante builds the jeep Cherokee directly off their platform which is way more luxurious for $32,000 brand new. I like Audi but for what you get you may as well buy a Maserati made limited edition jeep or Durango srt for half the price
