    One of those moments you feel powerless everyday is when Danny uploads a video and you think how on earth can you make these videos accessible to a wider public...Such an underrated commentator the guy is!

    Thank you for these amazing games by Shirov. I recommend to analyse two wonderful games against Kramnik in Linares '93 and '94

    Thanks for the game. For me Shirov always was one of my favorites. There are similar players like Morozevich, Jobava or Rapport. But for me he was the best of these ultra aggressive players.

  • @MartinSch1971

    I like so much the aggressive way Shirov is playing. I saw him once in Frankfurt in Chess Classics. In one game he gave the knights for the Center, completely crazy. Wished he won that one.

    Great game there by Shirov. Said it before but it’s a real shame that we never saw the World Championship between Shirov and Kasparov

    • @Bostian
      @Bostian 4 года назад

      Would have been a massacre. AFAIK Shirov's record against Kasparov is abysmal. He never won a game against Garry.

    • @jonchess8844
      @jonchess8844 4 года назад

      Hmmmm, your right in that Shirov’s record was poor against Kasparov but so was everyone else, apart from Kramnik, but thats not my point really. Shirov convincingly beat Kramnik and only due to politics and money issues the match did not go ahead which really is unacceptable. Kramnik played Kasparov by default not because he had won all the relevant matches and who really knows what would have happened in a Kasparov v Shirov match?
      When Short played Kasparov he was crushed but at least there were some exciting chess to watch unlike the match between Kramnik and Kasparov which was so underwhelming.

    The dude had a more than great event in the online olymp; went undefeated in the category B event scoring a whooping 8/9 to propel Spain into the A division, and continued his form there, winning games instead of drawing a lot(way more important in a team event) and finishing with 5/6 losing only to Mamedov...Hope the vintage Shirov is back, was a shame that he wasnt there for the MC legends event...

    Anyone that likes Shirov should check out his book Fire On Board. It is a well known classic chess book with some fantastic games and studies.

    The rook sac on h8 reminds me of Sokolov - Aronian. In that game white was too greedy and lost badly as he never managed to develop his kingside. In this game white at least managed to develop his king's knight, but he still wasted some tempi in the opening, so it was as if he was playing black. Even for a blitz game white's play wasn't great.

    Well, this looks like my games when I used to try Queens Gambit... :( That's why I always choose E4. It is harder to castle with D4. I mean sure, I can play D4 and then rush g3, Bg2 and castle quickly, but still... That dark squared bishop just feels like it should be defending the queen-side, but it's passive there. Those adventures on g5 and h4 look natural but very very risky in D4 openings. I think it was Pillsbury who came up with Bg5 right?

    As a king I don’t like to be surrounded by the enemy forces however if there is one situation I absolutely hate is to be totally blocked with my own forces. It feels rather claustrophobic. I requested social distancing. Did they listen. No. You can’t get good subordinates these days.
