These Shirov games are so entertainig. Thanks for very good material.
It is now 2020, some say that queen is still stuck on h1
Why doesn’t he analyse any of MY games. Mine are awash with ludicrous moves!
Carlsen: "I've played a beautiful game today!"
Topalov: "hold my beer"
Shirov: "Both of you are so cute..."
Carlen is more of a strategical player, doesnt attack the king often.
Beautiful game. I saw the weak diagonal h3-c8 and looked into g3 shortly but the calculations required are insane
Indeed it is one thing to see ideas but to have the ability to count and the courage to execute is another matter.
Wow, this is an amazing game. Thanks for showing us what a brilliant player Shirov is
Shirov paints the board like a Jackson Pollock on nuclear steroids.
evocative!
1st equal best comment!
Amazing game, thanks for showing and for the analysis.
Westerberg tried to out-Shirov Shirov by sacrificing material before Shirov did but then Shirov out-Shirov'ed his sacrifice by sacrificing even more material.
Well played all.
The 'Fire on board' guy is still on fire! I had to catch my breath after watching this video. Thanks, GM King!
I loved this one. Simply brilliant!!! Real joy. Reminiscent of the Tal's best games....
Leaving the rook en prise AND allowing the bishop to be pinned is so crazy. It is amazing he came up with that move. I am loving all this shirov content, just might have to buy his book fire on board!
Queen: Why did I take that Silly Rook????
I saw both g3 and f3 when prompted by Daniel, but sitting at a keyboard is not in the same universe as trying to work this out over the board during a game (with no clues or prompts from a moderator). You have to have the courage to follow your muse, the vision to see it through, and not care whether you win or lose. Games like this remind you of how magical chess can be.
Excellent lesson GM Daniel, Shirov is a great player, this rook sacrifice with g3, is similar to a sacrifice played in Bronstein-Tal, Riga 1968.
Mr.King, request for Kramnik vs Shirov games. They have had some great tussles in the late 90s.
Danke, GM!
Vielen Dank!
Thank you Dan your commentaries are as brilliant as Shirov moves.
Perhaps the insane sacrifice against Topalov (Linares 98) ?
Brilliant game. I like black's opening. It is much better than some "solid"(meaning boring, no counterplay) openngs like Slav and others. I won't be playing against Shirov anytime soon, so I will try this kind of unorthodox stuff.
Incredible game! Love your work.
Really enjoyed. Thanks 🙌
Legend has it that Shirov’s favorite rapper is Ludacris.
extraordinary. sometimes chess scares me a little.
It's a wonderful game. Right at the end, after Qe4+, since Kg8 loses trivially by dropping the knight, it would have been nice to show what happens after the more stubborn Kh8. Without an engine, I don't see it at first glance.
I was pondering e4 instead of g3, another complicated game succinctly presented by the King 🤴.
ty sir, the only disappointing thing about your videos is that I just can't hit the like button more than once.
Try from different accounts.
Well black king has decided to take a walk ... and Shirov indeed is great attacker
Thank you for your focus on the brilliant Shirov. Tal's grand daddy!
Tal's grand child you mean.
I seem to remember a game from the Kasparov vs Miles match where Kasparov allowed a double check and I think moved the king to f6. I think it was a Queen's Gambit.
Amazing stuff! I failed to find g3 but did find f3 :-)
Oh I have most definitely enjoyed this. Though I am rather bewildered, what the heck just happened in the opening? :D
Wow, what a game! Would love to see a Shirov series.
It's unfolding already :-)
LUDICROUS + I = RIDICULOUS well done Daniel ))
I found g3 very easily - it was the first move I considered - but forseeing Qb5 and certainly Nc4 is beyond my ability. At some point even great players like Shirov just have to trust their intuition that something will turn up but it would be interesting to know if Shirov identified Nc4 as the best move in his analysis of g3.
Brilliant. I wonder how far Shirov calculated and how much was intuition.
What a witty masterpiece..
I saw g3 immediately but I missed that the rook can be taken, lol.
I saw it too and thought "that's the move somehow" but missed Bh3!!
1st equal best comment!
that was very unique
queen in the corner looks like some computer game
ye like Alphazero vs Stockfish 8 maybe
g4
in case Black want to self-mate with a Rook landing on e6, then g4 covers f5
If Black doesn't want to self-mate then g5 attacking the Knight might be handy.
Daniel, why aren't you covering the olympiad games. Could you cover some... 😊
All in good time...
@@PowerPlayChess thank you!!
Shirov is stronger than he ever was.
Here is a link to check with browser's engine, if, like me, you want to see how many of those were only moves etc:

Thanks for great coverage!
Beware of taking the Trojan rook.
ala-alphazero that g3 move
What on earth happened and Shirov (as well as Ivanchuk) did not become world champion?
It's really not so important, one realises, to be Magnus... it's only part of the story to have highest psychological stamina to win, chess is not just that.
Chucky can't manage his time.
Funny, I’m sure I would have screwed up the rest of the game, but to me g3 was very obvious and intuitive and took me only seconds to find: it just had to be good!
And it must have been such a joy to play it! You threaten to bring the white squared bishop into the game which Black obviously can’t afford, so instead he has to allow his queen to be imprisoned in the corner! And who cares about that h1 rook, White has more than enough material to continue the attack. In such an aggressive position there isn’t much difference between captured and inactive pieces.
Another trip to planet Shirov. If you get a chance there is great B+P endgame in Fire on board.
jebaited
Castling prohibited here, modern chess at its best!
Wow, I actually found it ^^
Morphy-like forcing moves.
First comment (lmao Never done that before)
