or when they say ONE line about that food and all of a sudden it’s their favorite and the only food they are seen eating??? (?? He only said something about that food as it’s all he can afford minus cup noodles or something so?? If anything he might actually despise that food, but APPARENTLY due to ONE LINE in the JAPANESE TRANSLATION ONLY, it’s now one of the only things he is drawn/written with (aside from coffee, due to his boss), and considered a fandom staple of his character????!!) it just makes me mad, is all.
@@ranting2damax This kinda happens with Kaji from Evangelion. Just because he likes farming watermelons the entire Eva fandom thinks that he's obssesed with watermelons and only thinks about them.
The twinkification of male characters. Canonically capable and confident men, reduced a sobbing incompetent mess who needs to be saved by the "top" in the relationship Bonus points if they're constantly made trans for nsfw purposes. This part gets on my nerves as a trans person
this is somewhat unrelated but the huge amount of trans smut in f/f fanfiction is a topic that needs to be studied cause there’s like nothing without penis. i thought trans/futa was some niche kink but it’s like… more than 2/3 of f/f smutfics. im confused
one of my favorite guys, Kaveh, is lovingly dubbed "Princess Kaveh" but sometimes it comes from the people who do this to him and I'm not a fan of that at all. Look, we all know he's a mess, but he's not a twink and he's definitely not weak in the arms just based on how he can hold that metal briefcase in one hand with no extra help
@@cameronjohnson-tw7vv I think they mean a headcanon in a fandom can become the worst to them because they feel they are forced to "accept" it. I know at least one fandom that has a large majority scream if you say anything but the headcanon despite the fact that it isn't confirmed officially.
For real! As a Sonic fan with different headcannons. People who try and make me change my headcannons based off of what they believe a character acts like, is the WORST. And then some people accuse ME of trying to push my headcannons onto others, when I simply just make videos about them. Like okay? Hypocritical much?😭
The feminization and baby-girlification of the “bottom” (determined by fandom, usually the shorter one) in a gay ship was something that I saw sooo much in certain parts of the Haikyuu fandom particularly in like 2020/21. It was really weird and often just erased the “bottom’s” entire character (again the bottom thing was also just weird and felt pretty fetishizing) The entire relationship dynamic of a ship, both platonic and romantic, was instantly ruined as soon as this happened to one of the characters.
SO real oh my god, the opposite where the smaller one in canon is suddenly hyper masculine & taller for the sake of topping makes me drop shit sooo fast... it reminds me of old school yaoi 😬
you're so real for that! that is mostly why I read fanfics where the taller character is a "bottom" (btw I hate when in longer fics they are still classified that way like where did switches go) because authors make the characters less stereotypical idk it is definitely better than another short innocent uwu babygirl story
ships i couldve liked have been ruined by this. looks at skwistok. people write them as if toki isnt a weirdo sadist and they dont constantly fight with each other. this happens with other ships from metalocalypse too like nickles, where nathan is big strong alpha male who needs to protect his omega pickles, when pickles has beat up the most people out of anyone else in the show. luckily this means theres some really funny old yaoi metalocalypse fanart on deviantart whopeee!!!! its great cus these characters do not fit in the yaoi artstyle whatsoever!! i swear everyone in this fandom is obsessed with the weird fanart (including the shows main creator) and does early mtl fandom deepdives. I think its because mtl is like yuri on ice but for gay metalheads
@@VladiLulaMe too ! I'm super happy when I see in the tags that the stereotypically "feminine" character will be the top ! But sometimes (too often) I begin reading the fic and I realized they turned him into some sort of macho man who doesn't look anything like him. It's so disappointing....
My least favorite genre is ‘male character is feminine, therefore trans’ trope that I tend to see in some fandoms. Like, cool and fun, I don’t mind it and some work really well, but sometimes I feel like it takes away from the intent of just having a man comfortable with who he is. It sort of backhandedly implies that men can’t be feminine without being gay/trans and rubs me wrong even if that’s not the intent
Oh yeah, I hate trans headcanons for characters like Angel Dust. He is a dude. He’s never been a girl, nor wants to be a girl. He is a gay drag queen, deal with it.
I've actually seen the opposite. There's two characters that wear their typical society assigned "gender colors" and some people headcanon them as trans and say that because them wearing blue/pink is so they can appear more masc/fem to fight their gender dysphoria. I don't exactly dislike the headcanon, it's just bizarre reasoning to me, in a way it's more understandable when someone says "I hc them as trans bc I kin them and I'm trans" or "idk, just because ig" Especially when there's already a character design reason. There's multiple iterations of the characters, and their earlier versions didn't have anything close to those color schemes. For example, the girl was made pink because a favorite color survey the creator did with little girls so the character would be more relatable. I actually headcanon a different character to be trans because the creator (technically, its weird) switched their gender throughout the iterations. And she's still masculine, which sort of goes against the other hc reasoning for the other two, because not every trans person is completely against dressing fem when their afab, for example. So sort of like you are saying, clothing choice doesn't equal gender.
Saw this and IMMEDIATELY thought of Butters from South Park. (Especially how he got HC as trans coz he used a disguise to look as a girl and seemed feminine sometimes - like when he danced with a pink tutu)
Heres my personal head cannon for silent protags: selective muteness Makes more sense tbh because most of the time these characters will be seen verbally speaking with characters they are more comfortable with in canon
This might be a controversial take but I feel like most trans headcanons are kinda reductive and based purely in gender stereotypes, like a girl that likes "masculine" things? Nope trans boy! A boy who likes "feminine" things? Nope trans girl! Like I thought gender stereotypes were a bad thing?
REAL. Especially because it only serves to promote rigid gender roles. These also drive me up the wall by how much I've seen them bleed into real life and into the things people say to me 😭
Same. [slight wall of text warning, for people who have a life lol] They want control over what other people think and say, in a "IT'S EITHER ALL THE WAY AGREEING WITH ME OR DOESN'T COUNT/IT'S TRANSPHOBIC BECAUSE I SAY SO AND I WANT TO INVALIDATE YOUR OPINION" way due to self entitlement. It's very similar to the whole "trap is a homophobic slur" fiasco. It is not even a slur. It's just the Trope (happens irl too; sexuality and gender identity have nothing to do with this, just to be clear) where a guy looks like a girl, usually only face-wise and is often confused for one [e.g. Inosuke from Demon Slayer]. Dressing like a girl is not even mandatory for a character to _be_ a trap, but since those people just assume and lie to themselves until they convince themselves vehemently that they are right, while doing no research, we get things like that false statement at the start of this text wall. The opposite is called a "reverse trap" btw; [e.g. Tomo-chan]. Najimi from Komi-san is not a case of either; that's called an androgynous character. That's a different Trope. Does not require the Genderswap superpower/ability. And no, no matter how many times they try to edit Wikipedia (Yes, this happened; of course it was Twitter users, how did you guess?), otokonoko is not a homophobic slur either; that's just crossdressing men.
Don't forget the 'masculine girl' is a trans girl and the 'feminine boy' is a trans boy. Tho I've mostly seen the first, like Linn from the loud house or Luisa from Encanto are headcannoned trans girls.
'They would never fall in love, they're basically siblings!!'🥺 People can platonically love each other without being siblings. Friendships exist lmao you don't have to be either dating or related,😭like this gets on my nerves SOO much as an aroace person
There's no rationalisation needed when writing a fanfiction. It's not the source material, you can do what the fuck you want. People confuse believability and accuracy regarding the source material. What you want in a fanfiction is believability: in the context of your fic, is it believable that your characters would fall in love. Nothing to do with Canon.
Don't get me started on "canonically close friends called each other 'brother', sometimes while literally being brothers-in-arms, therefore shipping them is incest and if you do, you are immoral"
@@doggoadexx2680The point can be applied to fanfiction too, it's not like I'm comparing apples to oranges. The point being : whatever comes from inside your head doesn't need to follow the source material. Also this is a free space and I will do whatever I want ? 🙂
i really don’t like how SO many fandom lgbt+ headcanons are just boiled down to mean girl = lesbian, goofy girl = bisexual, shy character = asexual, outgoing/confident character = pansexual, non-human or evil character = agender and/or aroace, etc. like dude i love if you see yourself in a character and are headcanoning them with your labels because of that, but most of the time it’s people doing it based off of stereotypes 😭
In the FPE fandom I keep seeing people headcanon Alice as Aroace just because she’s a cool mysterious demon character when that fully goes against canon since she’s dating Oliver and is based on the creators girlfriend???? Like she literally has expressed romantic and mildly sexual attraction towards Oliver/Katie
it's funny because I'm kind of the opposite. my aroace headcanons are always applied to the people who are friends with everyone but don't show interest in a closer relationship like that with anyone. Like Nilou from Genshin Impact. I also just need more queer redheads in my life and she reminds me of my mom, a queer redhead
The funny thing is that meanwhile one of the first characters I ever projected being aroace onto is Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony and she's very much the outgoing/confident one, and like it's not like people *can* headcanon her as bi or pan because men don't exist in her generation but if they did then I know that people would headcanon her to be bi or pan because she's the older sister type character who loves fashion and adventures, but meanwhile I just wanted my favorite character to be aroace and she had the acceptable vibes and no ship-ability so that cemented that for me
God, I am so glad to see someone else recognizing the fact that Percy is an unreliable narrator when it comes to himself. Sure, he might not be a child of Athena, but Athena's children aren't the only smart people at camp. Percy is emotionally intelligent, cunning, and sometimes even manipulative. He just doesn't see himself that way because he's so insecure. And another thing in the PJO fanon that I hate: making Leo Valdez stupid as well. Like, this boy is canonically out here solving university level math equations at the age of eight and making a fully functional flying ship based on a drawing he made at age five. And yet again, fandom has fallen victim to the "if they're not a child of Athena, they're not smart" trap. Leo is an actual prodigy!
Yeah, exactly! There even was a scene in HoH when Annabeth explicitly said how smart Percy actually was. He's incredibly emotionally smart, learns quickly and can improvise really well. Like, if he didn't know what exactly to say to all those monsters or figure out what their weak point was, he would have already died in the first book
@@dandelionhood4508 Exactly! Like the first freaking encounter they have outside of camp in the first book, Percy is the one who gets them by tricking Crusty. This kid is so smart, it's honestly a shame people don't include it in fics more often
EXACTLYYYY!!! Percy just isn't school smart, but that could simply be because his schools weren't accessible to his learning style. Even then, he does still know a lot - he can just be a bit... dense at times. He's certainly goofy. Unserious, even. But he's not 100% clueless all the time! One of his strongest points is how clever he is in battle because he's so quick-thinking and crafty. Where Annabeth is book smart, Percy is more street smart. Both have different strengths that complement each other when they tag-team a fight in particular. But Percy is NOT a total moron, and I'm glad people are realising it now. He is simply a goofy goober and deflects with humor.
I ESPECIALLY agree with the lesbian/bisexual comment: Any lgbtq+ woman that’s more stereotypically masculine is automatically assumed to be lesbian while the more stereotypically feminine one is bisexual or pansexual. Like, why is that always the case in fannon?! Heck, even female characters that are either straight or don’t have a defined sexual orientation are automatically considered lesbians in fannon Yes, there are masculine lesbians in real life, but there’s also several feminine lesbians! And not every tomboy is automatically a lesbian either (she might be straight, bi, pan, ace, etc.). And not every bisexual woman is hyper feminine either, there are plenty of bi women that are more “masculine” as well Can we PLEASE have more diversity with female lgbtq+ characters?!
Two of my OCs are lesbian and pan. The lesbian one is more masculine, but kind of hating dresses. She has medium length hair, and is fun, but hates dresses. This is more from her childhood and being forced to wear them a lot. The pan of is more feminine, but not by to much. She does have pink and long hair, but the started from trauma. She actually use to be a huge tomboy before the trauma, but became for feminine after it. They aren’t really stereotypes, but do have certain traits.
I made 2 main female characters for a game I'm making and they are both bisexual one of them, the protagonist is a very stoic tomboy (more on her attitude than on the way she dresses) with a sad backstory and she has long hair and wears two long braids. The other one is super femenine but has short hair and she has a golden retriever personality but she has also a very sad backstory and she is meant to be one of the routes the protagonist can take.
let me be a strawberry-shortcake-t-shirt-and-cute-purple-skirt-wearing lesbian!!! but yeah i absolutely adore feminine characters and identify with them and am a lesbian
if it makes u feel better a lot of people headcanon glinda the more feminine character in wicked as a lesbian and elphaba the sorta more masc character as bi !!! (at least i do lol)
I have a few: -When the fandom straight up forgets that the characters are teens/children. -The constant need certain people have to ship everone. Look, I love shipping culture as much as the next guy, maybe even more. But even as a multishopper who indulges in rarepairs, I won't deny that it can get a bit much at times when people constantly try convincing you it is canon. Enjoy what you want, but keep in mind they're *headcanons* at the end of the day. -A whole load of gender/sexuality discourse. Oh, character x enjoys crissdressing? Trans. Character y is a fairly masculine woman? Lesbian. I'm sure no one means any harm but it's surprisingly damaging as it insinuates that men and women (especially men) can't be secure in their gender without being trans purely because they fit certain stereotypes. (Also, need I even mention comphet/twinkification?) -Saying a character is lazy/stupid because they're autistic or vice versa. Oh man I cannot bgin to express my disdain for this.
dude the first makes me think people are Pdffiles because of the fan are they make of teen agers, a good example Sebastian sallow from Hogwarts Legacy, just look up his fan art of pintrest .
As an aroace person the second one gets me. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good ship every now and again but does EVERYONE really needed to be shipped with someone else? Sometimes a character is better off just not being in a relationship And don’t get me started on how people disregard Aro/ace characters identities (looking at you Hazbin fandom with Alastor)
I hate it when a character acts childish/ is bubbly/ literally just has fun and half the fandom goes “Omg! They’re literally a kid! If you ship them you’re a creep” or “they have no idea what (basic life thing) is” like people are allowed to be happy and adults, Becky
As someone has once said "I'm sorry your childhood was fucked up, but mine wasn't." Like just because you're constantly struggling with a mental health as an adult or know people who are struggling with mental health as an adult, doesn't mean that happy and joyful adult characters are children. Kids aren't the only people who find joy and excitement in everyday life and like toys and bubbles and sugar, lots of adults are the same and you shouldn't categorize them as little kids because they aren't. And no matter the personality of the adult, it's okay to ship them with another adult.
The people who love Jax are the same people who insult Quackity constantly. Apparently,if you are s3xy & funny, you can get away with any amount of abuse.Probably why Logan Paul is popular.
Idk why but autistic characters being so heavily headcannoned as aro/ace, even when they’re shown being romantic or sexually interested in stuff, like Entrapta from she ra. She flirts with robots, spent “quality time” with darla, and the writer said she gets with hordak after season 5, yet I still see stuff making her aro/ace, don’t get me wrong representation is important, but it’s always them
"Idk why" oh we know why. "Autistic MUST mean they can't be interested in adult relationships because they're basically just a widdle babey~" (and the reverse, "aro/ace people MUST be neurodivergent in the most stereotyped infantilized ableist way ever because how could a NORMAL person not want a relationship???")
Exactly!!! Like, autistic people very much can fall in love and can have sex. I’m autistic and I’m a hopeless romantic who loves sex. Some autistic people are aro/ace, sure, but most of us are not.
I think your totally right..... One question though Isn't Darla a spaceship? I don't think "quality time" means what your implying it means...... Unless................
When the one religious character, especially those who are more characteristically grouchy or bitter, is violently homophobic despite never showing any hate, or even distaste, at all in canon. Dude, not every single religious person is out for gay blood just because they're religious.
As a gay and religious person it really puts a sour taste on my mouth. Especially since they often use the most random ass character who more likely than not do not care.
Yeah and gay people can be religious too without self hatred... It's not because one group or people within a branch/school of thought claims to be right that they are and their version should be forced on others... Texts are able to be interpreted and they can be subject to mistranslations, historical context that was forgotten for long and all that... Or you just can choose not to agree with It plain and simple or disregard It. Freedom of religion is meant to protect that not everyone is forced into one system...
everytime the game has a silent protagonist, the fandom will go 3 and only 3 ways : mute, autistic, or a totally made up and bizarelly childish personality
Ok but BotW/TotK Link specifically is one of the most autistic feeling video game characters I have ever seen. It's not because of the mute thing. It's everything else.
I absolutely LOVE the idea that Chell was just giving GLaDOS and the rest of Aperture the silent treatment for the whole of Portal and Portal 2. I hc her as selectively mute, but like. Being so done with everything that she refuses to talk entirely out of spite is way funnier and seems correct.
@@DragoSonicMileI’m starving for an autistic video game character from a game I actually like, and I do look up to Link a lot and I think there’s a lot of stuff that’s really interesting to look at through the lens of “he has autism”

I hate hate HATE when a character is depicted as a silly, goofy or just a little clueless sometimes, and the fandom cranks it up to 11 a makes them "the dumb one". Sometimes even the shows THEMSELVES do this, a silly goofy character who cracks a joke every now and then is regressed to "the dumb one" (Looking at you Voltron with Lance and Miraculous with Cat Noir)
In the early days of the Alta fandom, this happened to Sokka a lot. Luckily, now I don't see this very often. In fact, I don't think I've seen it around past season 2. But still, Sokka?! (For context, if you haven't seen Atla, Sokka is the strategist of the group.)
@@ee8002to be fair S1 Luz was such a goof and somewhat naive for the most part. Add the fact that she was very oblivious to Amity’s feelings for her, yea people def saw her as the dummy dumb himbo MC type. S2 Luz, ep1 already came out as a much more serious character, better at magic, more jaded after S1 finale. And as s2 progressed we got to see just how competent and smart Luz could be in serious situations. Like she legit made a whole new magic system, Girl was a genius. As the storylines got more serious, Luz got more serious which made the audience take her more serious.
as someone with OCD, most OCD headcanons bother me. This is because often popular OCD headcanons aren't actually based in what OCD is, and more just about the character being organized.
YUUUP. the only times I ever see OCD headcanons are for characters who are neat and tidy/organized, or are a germaphobe (bonus points if they’re a character that’s considered “weird”). Like, I understand sometimes cleaning or organizing will be a part of OCD behaviours for certain people as a result of easing their intense anxiety or compulsions, but every single time I see a character with “OCD” in media, whether headcanon or otherwise, it’s never even portrayed like that. Just because someone is a germaphobe or is organized doesn’t mean they have OCD - it also feeds into the whole “everyone has a bit of OCD in them” thing that so many people say just because of a misguided understanding of what OCD is and how it presents itself in different people, and instead just viewing it as “oh they’re tidy and organized”. I’ve yet to see any OCD headcanons that are even remotely close to being based off real symptoms and not just misunderstood stereotypes.
I absolutely hate mental health related headcanons that are based on harmful stereotypes or misinformation and don`t actually portray what those conditions are like at all. And yeah OCD has to be one of the absolute worst for it.
been diagnosed for years, I’d rather have no OCD representation than the weird stereotypical shit you see regularly. I find it funny because while people assume others with OCD are all neat and tidy, me and some other people I know are the exact opposite. just because I like my things a certain way, doesn’t mean that certain way is neat and tidy. it’s different for a lot of people too.
@@staeriix exactly! I got diagnosed when I was fairly young since my symptoms were pretty apparent in severity/were visible. My room is the absolute opposite of neat and tidy; it’s a disaster, bc I need it and the things within it in a certain specific way or I’ll freak out. Sure, some people with OCD are overly organized, but even then, it’s wildly different in nature from what we get as representation. I’d also rather they don’t bring us into it if all it’s going to be is super stereotypical misrepresentation about an issue that genuinely affects and strains real life people. Clear disregard snd lack of research half the time IMO
I love the slippers thing actually, and its a rare example of good fanon, even though it was probably a misunderstanding of his battle sprite its so perfectly in character for him.

I’m glad the gravity falls fandom is moving away from BillxDipper and more towards BillxFord (from what I’ve seen mostly watching from the outside) I think one of the main reasons it was happening was because the people shipping Dipper with Bill were also twelve years old at the time and now they’re adults and realize that relationships between adults are more relatable to them
I mean I strongly believe in letting people ship whatever but I am QUITE weirded out by the people who say "it's bad and wrong to ship a several billion year old interdimensional demon with the 12 year old he manipulated, but it's perfectly fine to ship the several billion year old interdimensional demon with the 40-something he manipulated" like...that is still deeply problematic my dudes. And I'd be fine if you recognized that, but people really seem to think that they've fixed the problem.
@@dementiaravenway eh it being toxic is the point. It just adds a layer of complexity and hurt to Ford’s dynamic with Bill if they were lovers once. I don't know if its a popular fanon, but sero (from mha) is sometimes headcannoned to smoke 🍃, and it was branched out from the headcanon that sero is Hispanic or has hispanic heritage, which is a harmful stereotype. Sorry, wanted to point it out 😅
Hazbin Hotel: Niffy being a literal child and “insert character here” being a parental figure to her. She’s canonically 22 years old, has a job, and is extremely interested in dating and relationships, and most of the characters people headcanon as a parent to her, are guys she’s attempted to flirt with at one point or another (looking at you Sir Pentious). Don’t get me wrong, she is definitely a childish character, and I can sorta Alastor being a twisted mentor figure to her, but she is an adult, and I don’t think people should be as weird about her getting shipped and stuff as they usually are.
I always saw Nifty and Alastor as like fun siblings, kind of a big brother/ little sister dynamic. But yeah, Nifty is actively fantasizing about relationships, drinks alcohol, and has a job, girly is not a child.
@@thegayghost872 As someone who's short I fucking hate that. They do the same with Natsuki from Doki Doki Literature Club and fucking argue her age despite her being canonically 18. Like short people exist, some of us got the short genetics and didn't get past 5 foot okay 😭
@@Omnicrush333 I’m tall, like when I was 11 I was 5’7… don’t ask me.. People are always shipping characters as tall as towers with characters shorter than a mushroom and I never get why short people are infantilised.. 😂😂
Niffty is a very weird case. Because sure she drinks and flirts but the fucking "you're not a bad boy" and kicking Pentious after the "it starts with sorry" song. That moment is fucking childish. It doesn't matter if she is an adult if the show itself treats her like a child. It's one thing for a character to just be childish and silly but the show goes into territory where you can't blame the fandom for infantilizing her because the SHOW infantilizes her. The "actual age" just feels like a copout from the writers to not worry about it.
I have a hc from that second side, the "chill and ok" side- but *doesn't* really match the character all that well..? But it's probably because he's my comfort character. (Voldemort..)
It's wholesome, but sometimes it's for characters where it doesn't really fit. Like, some characters are giving vodka aunt vibes, not responsible parent vibes, and that can still be a nice relationship and it doesn't need to be broken down to a nuclear family type thing
Even it is mostly used as a joke I really dislike the: "Mario and Luigi dislike/abuse each other" when in the games they will literally die for the sake of the other.
The “Ash is in a coma” headcanon, or anything claiming that the protagonist is just imagining all the fantasy/fantastical things happening. Just let them live in a fictional world completely unlike ours.
do people actually think that? i always thought it was just one of those "ooo everyone in this kids show is actually _dead_ ooo isn't that spooky" type creepypastas that someone just wrote up but no one actually thought was true. that's wild lmao
Someone said that the girl in Pan’s Labyrinth was imagining the whole thing when we watched it for Spanish class and I got irrationally angry. Yes the fantasy world parallels the real world and everything is symbolic of fascism. But what’s the point of a fictional movie having a fictional fantasy world if you’re going to be like it was all the kid’s imagination
We personally hate fannon Chat Noir. They always make him an overly flirty guy whos very flirty towards Ladybug but in reality hes just a dork, hes witty and silly. A lot of the fandom tends to forget that the characters are around 14-15. Let them be goofy and silly! Let them do normal teenage things! The fandom so often forgets that these guys at the end of the day are teenagers who just are forced into becoming superheroes.
Kinda true to me, aside from this it makes me sad that the fandom expects them to act maturely when they're given super powers and the responsibility of it AND the citizens, so when they make bad actions (which is most o the time bc they're teens) the hate train starts, lik you're missing one of the greatest accepts o their characters 😔
REAL!!! There is nothing that makes me click off of any miraculous fic quicker than “Chat Noir has been harassing and stalking Marinette” it was a fun twist the first two times but Jesus Christ she can dislike the guy without him being The Worst Man Alive, can we find new ways to start Maribat and Salt fics??
DUDE I remember being in the Overwatch fandom and people would pull out their shipping charts and they had to ship LITERALLY EVERY CHARACTER except sometimes they would exclude Winston, Bastion and Hammond. It was wild to me though the stretches people would make with these characters just because they decided literally everyone needed to be in a pairing. And every time a new character was announced people would be like "ok who do we ship them with" like WHY DO THEY ALL NEED TO BE IN A SHIP
When they ship the Main Six 💀 the whole point of their relationship is that they're BEST FRIENDS and people insist on shipping them. I legit asked on the MLP subreddit if AppleDash was canon after my friend and google couldn't tell me, and the answer I got was basically "Well yes, but actually no" because it was "implied". Sometimes characters are just friends, even best friends, and nothing more. Side tangent: Outside of the fact that shipping those two kind of ruins the dynamic and whole idea of the Mane 6, saying something is canon because it's implied is a bit of a dick move because it makes it harder for people to be able to distinguish between canon and fanon.
YEEEES. I hate it when there are such amazing platonic friendships that literally feel like families: siblings, cousins even parent/child energy and there will always be someone shipping them I HATE IT WITH ALL MY HEART, GIMME THAT BROTHERHOOD
Same, but backwards for me. Some people do not want relationships in the actual canon at _all_ and get angry about any slight sort of hint/progress/full canon relationship confirmation. I assume these people just Windows XP Shut Down when the characters get married and have children. And it's not a matter of ships, they are the only characters in the story. It's a Slice of Life _romance_. Like... what did you expect? The Spanish Inquisition? Nobody expects The Spanish Inquisition!
The idea that if an adult in a period piece is single, they MUST be gay or ace. Especially women. It's so pervasive, and frankly, it erases those of us who have never found love but want to. Even the straightest Victorian woman could end up being single her whole life. That was simply the reality for some people. Denying it won't make it go away. It will just invalidate those same struggles that continue into the modern day for a lot of people.
Or just that any woman that didn’t want to submit to a marriage in a patriarchal society where that would subsume her identity into her husband’s and make her legally subject to whatever he wanted to do to her must be a lesbian.
As a single 22yo who is not in a relationship despite having interest in the matter, preach. Like, life is just like that sometimes, there is no magic that automatically pairs you with someone at 18. It really is a stage in life that should be normalized, because I for one am happy despite that.
I don’t know if it’s just me not having a broad enough view on things, but I find fandoms will often make all characters romantically inclined as much as possible, regardless of what they actually are. Maybe you could point out some examples of characters people make ace?
@honque2490 Bruno Madrigal is the best example. While there's nothing wrong with him being ace, the fact that the fandom assumes he must be that or gay is unrealistic and unfair. Maybe the poor man just plain cannot find love.
Headcanons regarding sexuality are the bane of my existence. It's honestly so annoying when people say a character should be [insert sexual orientation] just because of the way they act. A guy doesn't act traditionally masculine? He must be gay! A girl doesn't act traditionally feminine? She must be a lesbian! This character acts cold and rude to other people? They must be aroace! A character acts cheerful? They must be pan! And so on and so on. What bothers me the most is when people say that these headcanons are good LGBT representation, when in reality they are more damaging than anything else due to how often they stereotype characters.
Me when the "He's so flamboyant, fancy and refined, he's so awkward and silly, a lovely goofball, he's definitely [insert a sexuality]" when he literally has said he likes girls.
The only and I mean only time I do this is either a) wishful thinking or b) if I can outline a lot of reasons why it connects to my experience. Even then though I think the difference lies in how people act with the hc. Like if they’re enforcing it on others bleh gross but I think it’s just as bad to shame someone for having an interp in the first place. Like it’s silly to seriously go ‘no you’re wrong and suck’ when something is open-ended. Especially when for some marginalized identities it’s really hard to find any representation in the first place. There’s power in taking that into your own hands. Just another angle to consider in these kinds of situations.
Sexuality headcannon rooted in like. Wierd personality stuff is strange to me as well. Honestly I feel like you don't need to shoehorn in a reason to headcannon a character as a certain sexuality. Just do it. To me at least media and entertainment exist to bring joy. Literally nothing else. So experiencing it in a way that sparks joy to you shouldn't have to be explained away. Sometimes things are just fun to think about. As long as you're not trying to enforce your personal idea of a character onto someone else I see no issue
god i agree about heather chandler. she doesnt need a tragic backstory sometimes people just suck. it also reminds me of how fuckign often growing up id try to talk about how shitty being bullied was, and someone (often my mum) was inevitably like "well they're probably just doing it cause they're hurting
Exactly! People who try to excuse someone’s bad behavior with “they’re lashing out because they’re traumatized uwu” should think through their own logic for a minute. If someone being hurt makes it okay for them to hurt others, that gives the people they hurt the right to hurt others too, and then all the people THEY hurt have the right to hurt even more people, and then those people all get the right to hurt yet more people, and so on until everyone’s just running around hurting everyone else and nobody’s happy. Trauma sucks, but it doesn’t absolve people of responsibility for their actions.
Fr! It’s literally one of the main messages of Heathers! Some people are just as bad as they seem, like JD, Kurt and Ram, and of course, Heather Chandler
I'm fairly certain my mom would thought my bullies were my friends, until I told her why they were always following me. Psychological bullying is not fun to go through. They stopped the physical kind when I "unleashed" my arms with my dad's permission; needless to say, watching Ultraman Leo being rerun on TV at the time was fun and _very_ useful. Except for the kicks, didn't have the leg strength for those yet. -Yes, I tried to Leo Kick one of them. It's still a cringy yet funny memory to this day.-
I hate how Doomguy is seen as a violent, murdering megalomaniac that murders EVERYTHING in his way. No, no, no.. this was never what he was supposed to be?? He's someone who cares deeply about humanity, and wants to save it. the whole reason he was put on Mars was because he refused to fire at innocent civilians. Hell, in the elevator sequence of DOOM 2016, he doesn't do anything until he sees the dead human body on the ground, and THEN smashes the console. A trope that REALLY pisses me off. This goes for Batman too.
Same goes for the punisher. Yeah he is edgy and his objective in life is to punish criminals, but all that happened because his family was killed, before that he was a soldier, husband and farther (and even the writers can't see to understand that, looking at you, Jason)
When jerk characters are turn into secretly good guys and/or given tragic backstory (Jax, Izaya, Alastor, Bill Cipher). I love these characters because they are a$$holes that enjoy causing others misery not because they do it hide secret sad feelings.
First off, previous reply, that is peak comedy. Anyway I fully agree . It can be fun to give these characters tragedy to their stories, in certain cases it can kinda explain why they're like it, because most humans. Don't actually do absolutely terrible things unless they're not very well adjusted. but so often people use it to justify shit?? Like my man is NOT a decent person because he went through shit he wants to genocide the entire world
Out of all the characters you listed, Alastor is most definitely going to have a tragic backstory cause Vivzie is a drama whore and she’ll make us all cry 😂😂😂 I mean look at how much Helluva Boss has been changed from a comedy to a soap opera. I’m not complaining though, I love the drama lol
Bill is the only one I've seen the source material and it pisses me off SO MUCH because they'll say, "Oh, he was locked in an alternate dimension all alone for so long, he's just lonely!" Why do you think he was locked away in the first place?? He's a hedonistic psychopath who breaths death and destruction upon entire dimensions because he thinks it's fun! Not because he's sad and lonely!
i HATE the way rottmnt donatello is often characterized. he’s autistic, yes! but that doesn’t mean he’s cold or callous. he’s often seen joking and laughing with his family! he wouldn’t be mean to them (on purpose)!
@@pisces2569 tbh, i can’t defend that (and he also put trackers on them). but they just always make him so stoic and grumpy when in the show he’s just as excited as the rest of the team. It rubs me the wrong way.
The cold and callous autistic character is a completely different one. He's my profile picture lol. The worst part is, he's actually a silly little guy who just isn't as expressive as other characters in the game. So basically a similar situation to Donatello.
@@blindmouse1613 I mean at least the trackers have utility and are pretty clearly meant for his brothers' safety (have you *seen* how much trouble these idiots get into?), and planting the trackers without their knowledge or consent wasn't exactly the best way to go about it, but I think the interaction between him and Leo when the trackers are revealed heavily implies that his brothers wouldn't have accepted if he offered, regardless if he's trying to look out for them.
Digital Circus creator warned from right after the first episode that people where gonna be mad the character currently exclusively written as a meanie is in fact mean. It’s not witty good humoured banter.
I thought Jax was a bit of an ass from the start and was not surprised he got worse. I'm actually happy to have confirmation that he will not get better anytime soon. I hate the dude now, but I want that. He was clearly meant to be hated, so that's a job well done!
He’s very poorly written, having a character that’s just an asshole is fine but they have to have other character traits, Jax doesn’t. He is just a misogynistic little creep and that’s all they gave him
@@zo6679 There's literally only 2 episodes. Why would you judge a character on JUST two episodes? Maybe he needs some more time... Also, he's gonna get worse.
@@mikethegoo Because for some reason people think they automatically know a character and all their nuances from the first episode alone and think they can somehow write better than the character's very creator. You're right that some characters are meant to be assholes, and its a shame that other people can't seem to understand that.
This applies for most fandoms, but whenever they headcanon "quirky, unconventional" characters as mentally ill. EG: loud/confident= adhd. Quiet/shy= depression etc.
8:34 My personal headcanon is that Alastor CAN speak French, but chooses to distance himself from his human life while he's in Hell and therefore sticks to English. I just find it unlikely that, being of Creole descent and living in New Orleans, he wouldn't have learned at least a bit of French at some point during his life.
Nitpick but Alastor is creole, not cajun. Cajun are catholics descended from Canada, creole may be vodouisants descended from Haïti. From the 1920s to about the 1960s, Louisiana banned learning french because it was considered a language for poor people but Vivzie has mentioned he can speak a little bit but not fluently.
Since learning French was banned starting in the 20s and Alastor died circa 1933-34, I still think it's possible he could have spoken it a bit in childhood.
To be honest in my opinion he would drop well known words (like, Bonjour, au revoir, mademoiselle, etc) from time to time to be snazzy but that’s pretty much it
i hate it when female characters who are a male characters love interest in canon get villian-fied to make a mlm ship happen... this happens esp in AUs, like lisa from supernatural being written as a "sl*t" (which is so sexist omg) just so dean can get together with castiel. or when a fandom lacks female characters so they start shipping a female characters male love interest with another guy, not even writing her in the fics as a mc?? or they make her a lesbian to get her out of the relationship but dont give her a girlfriend🙄 lily evans is very much a victim, but chris from dead poets society and the kantorka from krabat also come to mind
NANCY WHEELER. I swear, those Steddie shippers had me on my nerves. As if they didn’t hear the fact that Steve openly said to Nancy he wants “six little nuggets” to her. I don’t like stancy for obvious reasons, but I don’t understand the hype around steddie either. Steve only knew Eddie for a few days, and there was no chemistry between them, and im a gay man.
I don't really mind the second one depending on the franchise, like how many otomes are fine with them as often they don't have endings where the mc ends up with multiple people and they also often have blatant shipping by the creators (Great examples being Diabolik Lovers and Kamigami No Asobi. My friend likes the latter, and first saw the anime without knowing it was an otome and genuinely thought that Balder and Loki would get together due to Loki canonically liking Balder, and he was shocked when he found out that it was an otome and that Loki was apparently supposed to also like Yui. I meanwhile am a fan of the prior, and multiple times in side content Shuu has said that he was in love with Yuma and Kino is canonically aware of this and even made use of it in their Lost Eden routes, and some characters are shipped due to just working well together like Subaru and Kou (one of the ships I personally ship, they are literally a cat and dog dynamic despite both adoring cats which isn't related but I think it's funny, but no yeah Kou is very affectionate towards Subaru once they become friends and actively goes out of his way to hang out with him and not his other friends which seems like a peak thing for a ship because that's really cute) and Azusa and Shin (One that I don't ship but do agree is cute and funny, often in non-game materials Azusa tries to make everyone happy like he does in the games and let's himself be a punching bag so people will be happy but meanwhile he will actively try to get Shin to injure him because Shin is very aggressive and violent which is the one thing that quickly subdues Shin and makes him stop which people all agreed was funny so some people made that be a crackship, then later in Chaos Lineage they had a serious interaction in a game that wasn't Dark Fate and it was really cute and wholesome and more people ended up shipping them)
I hate the "Doofenshmirtz is Phineas' dad" headcanon that a lot of Phineas and Ferb fans have. Dan Povenmire himself said that Doofenshmirtz is not his dad. It doesn't even make sense canonically because he only went on one date with Phineas' mom, and it never went anywhere. Besides, Doof is a great dad to his own daughter. There's no way he would never abandon his child, and saying that he left Phineas and his mom would be an insult to his entire character. I hope fewer people will follow this headcanon now that the Book of Bill released, which jokes at Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls being Phineas' father. Also, why does it matter who his biological dad is? He views his stepfather as his dad, and that's all that matters.
Back during my HP fandom days, it pissed me off how people made Malfoy out to be this poor wittle abused baby who secretly had a heart of gold, frankly the obsession people in the HP fandom had with Draco Malfoy was beyond my comprehension period, but the way people would write off the times Malfoy was mocking Harry for being an orphan, calling Hermione a mudblood (not to mention the several canon times Malfoy wished Hermione dead), and mocked Ron and the Weasleys for not being well-off as banter or teasing was insane to me, like, did you people actually read to books or see the movies???
Fanon! Sans and Papyrus make me want to /killcommand. Like, Papyrus is intelligent???? Sans isn't overprotective and obnoxious toward his brother???? Papyrus isn't being naïve in that scene, he's being kind. He also makes more puns than sans. By a significant margin. He's got like 12, and sans has like, 5. Sans can do other jokes. It doesn't _have_ to be the same 8 skeleton puns! He does other stuff, too! *Looks at every sans fangirl ever*
Theres this like anual trend in tumblur where they "let papyrus say fuck" and i feel like its designed to target those fanons that kinda dumb he down and like, kinda treat him like a kid a bit.
Papyrus never stops looking for the good in people, not because he’s naive, but because he’s full of hope. It shouldn’t be considered childish to be hopeful. You know another character that refuses to kill because he hopes people can change for the better? Batman. I don’t see many people calling Batman childish for that
@@normalhuman9878understanding that bad people do good things is a sign of maturity. Children have a black and white view of people so saying that there’s good in everyone is the opposite of childish
I really dislike the "siblings coded" thing. There are characters that do genuinely feel like siblings but most of the time i seen that as a disguised attempt to ban romantical ships. "You cannot ship them cause they are sibling-coded, thats incest" no honey, is not! You just dont have actual canon reasons for why these characters cannot be together so you made up the idea that they see each other as siblings (or other relative) so the people that do ship them feel bad about it. Edit: Since the topic of this comment thread has shifted to actual incest definitions let me clarify that i am refering to characters with no family relations ties at all but that can still be seen as siblings, like the Strawhats from One piece for example. The whole step-sibling/adopted sibling is another can of worms
@@NekoChanSenpaiIt’d still be considered incest even if they were step-siblings or something along those lines. But as long as they aren’t step-whatever or blood-related in canon story, they should be fine 👍
I feel like this happens a lot in the Ace Attorney community with Maya and Phoenix. I personally have other choices of shipping those two, but despite their closeness they aren't actual siblings, neither do they explicitly act like so, they’re just close. For me, as long as people dont do harmful sh!t or force others onto their own headcannons, do whatever you want to do. Not my problem.
I seriously hate how badly so much of the fandom infantilizes him. The way he's portrayed as a sensitive, innocent crybaby incapable of cursing or just doing normal dumb teenager shit is just so far off base, and it's even worse when you combine that with the shipping drama. 😭😭 This boy has seen the worst of humanity, he's not naive and he's not innocent 💀
I'm not saying your wrong But I will say that (maybe it's just me but) I feel like in this day and age saying Damn and Hell is Baby Sh*t in terms of cursing What this boy Needs is to yell a good loud and hard F*ck Just one..... And he can use it at a moment where it would be the most badass like what a good PG13 film should do.
5:11 the jason Todd one drives me NUTS. Hes not baby boi and hes not simply a violent killing machine. He actually has such an interesting character thats so pften so poorly done, even in some canon
6:20 As a lesbian, I'm actually so sick of mean female characters ALWAYS being headcanoned as lesbians! It's like fandoms selectively choose the meanest girl to designate as the token lesbian every single time without fail
2:00 luigi also wore a dress in paper mario ttyd. and in the comic the person's talking about, luigi says he really likes wearing the dress, iirc he wanted to keep it, so it's not exactly ooc or a huge leap. he canonically has enjoyed crossdressing.
Yeah it's not a big leap, but I do have to say that Luigi feminization is still a weird problem in Bowuigi works. I'm down with crossdressing Luigi, that's totally fine, but every time Luigi is referred to as "mom" of Bowser Jr or Koopalings and he's *not* being headcanoned as transfem, it makes me cringe so hard. I know that Bowser probably has issues with heteronormativity, but we don't need to make it stay that way yk?
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodbi6207I actually really like dad Luigi, and I feel like he would be more "motherly", if that makes sense? I think a lot of people refer to him as like a mom because it isn't normalized for dads to act the same way mothers do.
I've had the opposite problem. I have a headcanon and then get harassed because literally no one else has that headcanon and I get called cringe. It hurts my feelings. I'm not even trying to force my headcanons on others, I just wanted to get the idea out there in case anyone else likes it.
This sounds hard! Getting your feelings hurt in a fandom suckksss. I'm sorry this has happened. I hope you find nicer fandoms, or atleast stop letting the mouth-breathers hurt your stride.
Basically any character that's a teenager (or young adult) in canon, and is made to be a cry baby or is basically age regressed in fics. Like yeah, I'm reading a found family or a gen fic and the main character suddenly feels like they are acting at least 10 years younger than they actually are. Feelings are fine, crying is healthy, but bursting in tears about literally everything is tiring.
@@hyzmarie I liked the show until the current airing season, I'm already caught up on the manga. The fics in that fandom (some, not most) made Midoriya even more childish and naive than I understood him to be in the canon. Had to stop reading some of them, when he started acting like a child under the age of 10, more than a teen. I also noticed this age regression in a few other fandoms, but this is the most recent example.
@@hyzmariepart of the reason I stopped watching the show after finishing season 1, was because of this. He cried so much- and as someone who is a very sensitive crybaby, and thinks more male characters should be allowed to cry, it was just nonstop lol. & the season 1 pacing is atrocious
I noticed this during my time in the R6 fandom! Y’know, the game where they’re all middle aged, special force anti-terrorists There’s something about a 45yo German military engineer sobbing in the bathroom at a bar because he’s too overstimulated that kinda cracks the immersion lol
I mean honestly idrc about people’s head canons unless: 1. They DRASTICALLY make the character ooc (like more mean or more soft when they are the clear opposite of that) 2. When they think their hc is canon and then get mad at people who don’t use their hc But other than that I feel like people should hc whatever they want as long as it’s not harming or stereotyping someone. I’ve seen on Pinterest people bashing for not being “canon” or sm and I just roll my eyes at that. Let people do whatever the hell they want, it’s not going to kill you or anything.
Frrr, this is why i never share my headcannons with anybody but my close friends. People just get mad iver the slightest things. For me, as long as it’s neither harmful or you’re getting mad at others for not using it, do whatever you want to.
Same, though it also bugs me when people write non-binary characters as strictly male or female. Especially if the majority of the Fandom does it in the same direction. It feels like erasure. Especially altering the pronouns to either he/him or she/her instead of at least retaining canon they/them pronouns (while they/them would imply a gender nonconforming character unless otherwise stated, some cis people do use those, so it's kind of excusable I suppose, though by that logic you could headcanon a lot of characters as being the opposite of their Canon gender just with Canon pronouns.) If you can't tell, I'm an Undertale/Deltarune fan. And to a lesser extent I like Hollow Knight
3:03 as a selectively mute person who mainly stops talking when I’m upset or overwhelmed it makes a lot more sense for him to be selectively mute and only talk when necessary
Reading some of these has made me wonder if these kinds of people actually like the characters, or if they only like the versions of the characters they invented in their heads
I've been guilty of interpreting and creating versions of characters that don't align with canon, but I at least have the decency to understand that my interpretations and versions are not reflective of the canon characters
No, they don't pay attention at all. They just see a showcase of already designed characters to use. They don't even like the characters nor the art work they are from. If they did, they would talk about the actual media or characters, but they don't
2:35 Ngl I love how Jax made everyone mad, he seems to enjoy bothering people in series and he made a very meta move and enraged people outside too by showcasing his true nature! He's too powerful!
I think people are getting Peter Parker confused because he's "book smart," not "street smart." That is, he can tell you the square root of 40,000 and calculate how much force he needs to be a human substitute for a full-size passenger jet's landing gear (that second one he has done before) off the top of his head. He even invented his own web shooters and web compound in most canon timelines, for Pete's sake! (hehe, puns) And he was only 15 at the time. FIFTEEN! The guy is a creative and scientific genius who's quick on his feet and with his words. But... He's still a teen for much of his career as Spider-Man. He doesn't know the way of the world entirely, but he course corrects as time goes on. He learns as he goes and strives to learn more when encountering something he hasn't experienced before. To quote the man himself: "Just because I had "spider" sense didn't mean I had *common* sense." He's not naive or clueless. He probably knows more about science and engineering than most of the people he regularly interacts with. Even the scientists (barring Reed Richards, of course)! As his story progresses, we see a high school kid figuring out his place in the world outside of his textbooks. He continues to learn about the society around him through his struggles and *wants* to know. It's why Pete gets so frustrated at first when Triple J changes the narrative of Spider-Man's battles. Peter doesn't understand why Spider-Man is seen as a "menace" when he helps the police. But he learns to ignore it and focuses on building rapport with citizens instead. Eventually, no one believes Triple J. There are two reasons Spider-Man is one of the most popular superheroes ever and has remained so for decades: Anyone could be under the mask, and he learns from his mistakes. He grows and changes, but he's still Spider-Man. He betters himself as he goes along, and Peter Parker is a fantastic role model for this exact reason.
Exactly. People say him immediately going to Doctor Strange in NWH instead of pleading his case with the college is out of character because he's supposed to be smart, but there are different kinds of smarts. Peter has always been very smart with science but very dumb when it comes to socializing. I'm not stupid, but I also would not have thought of just talking to the college. I wouldn't have known that's a thing. Also, even in a lot of versions where Peter grows up, he's not much better about his street smarts. In the first Insomniac game he nearly crashes a helicopter into a busy street because he had no plan for how to bring it down. This is after he accidentally gave that same helicopter an improvised wrecking ball. He has no idea why MJ broke up with him earlier that year. Common sense is not his strong suit.
3:42 This is ableism. Percy has low self esteem because people underestimate him due to his dyslexia and ADHD. And these same people who call him a himbo erase Annabeth’s disabilities too.
Whenever they make the overweight character aroace. I love aro/ace headcanons for characters from any fandom because I love that representation but if it's always the overweight or not stereotypically attractive characters it just feels really weird.
as an overweight aroace person yeah 😭 it get tiring when people just stick the same hcs onto similar looking characters (which also goes for other sexualities and such)
that is just weirdly specific, like: You're not conventionally atractive? Clearly you must not be interested in relationships, otherwise you would do something about it. That just sounds rude

One headcanon I despise is when the character who is being nice to kids is a p3d0 out no where like I'm sorry is being nice with children considered p3d0. This headcanon is disgusting as heck not only is harmful but also mischaracterize the character they headcanon for that character.
@WhatEvenThat there's this one anime called babysitter high school in wich this character, stereotypical popular boy- gets nosebleeds everytime he's around children. Or fantasized about giving a toddler chocolate during valentine because he thought of how cute his chubby cheeks would have looked while eating. There are tons of moments like that and his classmates continuously say "hey you sound creepy" it is intended to be a comedic gag, but I never found it funny. Either way, he never once harmed children in any way and is always sweet to them, he just thinks they're really cute or whatever. I still think the pedo jokes are odd.
Literally Big the cat from Sonic. Like… he’s friends with Amy and Cream (who are younger than him), but he’s not a creep, he was just looking out for them in Heroes while also looking for Froggy.
I know this isn’t a thing tied to any particular fandom, but I absolutely hate it when a male character, who in canon is a very capable, powerful, and intelligent person, is headcanoned as a submissive, wimpy brat who’s only there to fawn over his love interest. Especially if the guy is short, has “girly hobbies”, and has cried at least once. And you know damn well that they’re making him exclusively the bottom in any intimate scenes. That isn’t the same male character anymore, you just turned him into a poorly written female character. Am I talking about Jun from Persona 2? *Perhaps.*
Before clicking Read More I was wondering why that sounded familiar, then I clicked Read More... *sigh* Sometimes, I really wish the Persona Fandom would actually *play* the older games sometimes
Someone being submissive doesn't make them a girl, that's kinda sexist. I do agree with most of your point, but it doesn't turn him into a female character it just turns him into a different person, which is a problem in a lot of fandoms

It's stated how "small-minded" (to say the least) everyone im Sherwood (the city where it takes place) is, and is very coherent considering it's a small town in late 80s and it's basically a teen dystopia, even if it's not openly talked about it's clear that Heathers share the same trashy ideals as the people in their city have. And about the crush thing... *Every* Heather, both in movie and musical, did shit to Veronica, in the musical it can even stick up to the fact that everyone was willing to change and forgiving themselves, but anyways. Not in the Sonic fandom, but "black Knuckles" reminded me of something. Whenever I envision human versions of animal characters, I usually go off what people are native to that animal's range, so Knuckles would be aboriginal Australian or New Guinean. This makes characters whose species is either wide-ranging (like red foxes for Tails) or has no clear singular species identification (Sonic) more interpretable, for better or worse. I supposed you could try to figure out what species/population they most resemble, but I'm not _that_ determined.
that's a cool way of doing it ngl. i think with knuckles people headcanon him because apparently he has the colours of the jamaican flag and his hair being dreadlocks. i think it makes more sense to go off the animal's range though
That. actually sounds like a cool concept. I've never seen anyone design the human version of animal characters based of what people are native to that animal's range, just the animal's design itself. I'm not in the Sonic fandom either, but I kinda want to see an aboriginal Australian Knuckles now :) sounds like a cool concept too.
4:04 this but with Papyrus from undertale. It fucking irks me because its literally the furthest thing from canon. Papyrus is literally explicitly said to be extremely tough, and is the only monster who refuses to kill the player under any circumstances, having enough self-control to make his attacks do as little as one damage. Papyrus is also a massive people-pleasure - in front of the player, he's downright apathetic at times, while he actively plays up being childish in front of Sans and Undyne. Papyrus is also one of the only characters to mention time and space - saying that he hates when Sans pranks people through time and space. The only way Papyrus would know that is if he'd either seen or multiple times and/or has been a victim of it himself. Also, when Flowey is holding everyone hostage - he holds everyone with 2 vines, even Sans and Undyne (and Flowey hates Sans due to Sans causing him multiple resets), but for Papyrus? He uses 4!
Dunno where Flowey hating sans comes from, but yup, Papyrus is one strong mf who isn’t nearly as naive as he often makes himself seem. He’s lied to Undyne for us, what’s to say he hasn’t lied to us for others, or just for himself?
@@MrHAH-cd9ku 100%. Also, the flowey hating Sans thing comes from the fact that Flowey warns the player about Sans because he's "caused me my fair share of resets"
Preach lol, this man strong as hell, I fr struggled getting past his fight. 😂 if he didn't hold back he'd be terrifying, he isn't some naïve cinnamon roll nor is horribly oblivious, in fact from what I recall in my runs he is rather self aware (forgive me if i got the quote wrong): "Who knew the way to make friends was to give them awful puzzles and then fight them?" Key word there being _awful._ Papyrus may put up an egotistical and ignorant persona but that just stems from him seeking validation, and i would even say he knows a little more then he lets on, kinda like his brother

There are quite a few characters in the Percy Jackson books, that get reduced to very inaccurate headcanons by the fans. Percy is probably one of the two biggest examples, Nico being the other one. Nico is always described by the fans as the dark, grumpy, always angry yet cute emo, who's adorable and that you just want to cuddle, when he actually is one of the most, if not the most tragic character in the entire series. A huge part of his life essentially just consists of pain. He gets traumatised to hell and back. Literally, since he actually ends up in hell at one point in the series. Canon Nico and fanon Nico are two extremely different things and it's quite jarring to look at. Most fans would apparently want to hug him since he's "adorable". And Nico should be hugged. However, not because he's adorable, but because he fucking needs it.
And the whole “I am Percy Jackson, how can I not be your type??!?!?” makes me SUFFER. Percy isn’t a himbo that thinks that he is the HOTTEST guy to ever exist, he isn’t offended that he isn’t “Nico type”. Guy’s self esteem is lower than the deep sea, he probably didn’t even believe that Nico had a crush on him
Maybe a controversial opinion on this! But I think it's the fetishization of m/m community, specially women tend to make these remarcable differences between "tops and bottom" in the exact moment they have a gay man. So instead of being a depressed young emo he's a cute depressed little guy
@@arthurdias6860 Yeah, it's a bit weird how the fandom made a huge thing out of that one line. Considering how surprised he was when Nico confessed to him at the end of Blood of Olympus, I'm convinced Percy didn't have a single clue about Nico's crush.
2:02 okay so i am super okay with the person not liking it, but as a big luigi fan i just gotta point out that he is stated to like wearing dresses *several* times. he doesn't just wear a dress to trick someone once. its not even really a headcanon to say luigi likes wearing dresses, it is pretty canon. does this mean someone has to like it? no, and thats perfectly okay, i get not liking canon sometimes, but i just had to correct this misinformation. you can find more info easily by simply googling "luigi wearing a dress" or something along those lines
@@medicmist the whole "outlandish bizarre personality" thing with silent protagonist head canons could be seen as deconstructing the silent protagonist archetype as a whole.
That's how it is in Half Life and Portal. Gordon and Chell _can_ speak, they're just stubborn and refuse to. And I like that better than the whole "silent protagonist that is canonically speaking but it's only implied" that you see in a lot of RPGs.
The thing about Link being mute is that there are multiple versions of Link across the games that are canonically not the same Link, so while several versions do canonically talk, I can see why people headcanon some of the different versions as mute But ofc if people dont want that headcanon thats okay too
Although that does fall apart when you realize that the manga is canon, and Link canonically speaks in all versions of the manga. All versions of Link throughout the canon timeline can and do speak, at least a little bit, whether it be in-game or in the manga adaptations of the games. The only reason that Link is a silent protagonist is because it makes it easier for the player to insert themselves into the story using Link as a vessel, similarly to how the Pokemon protagonists are also silent in-game, which is a common trope for Nintendo games tbh. There's nothing wrong with headcanoning Link as mute or selectively mute, but it does quite literally clash with and contradict canon.
Link is meant to be an empty vessel for the player, Nintendo have never been interested in any serious, deep characterisation of him in the games, so I think all the 'you are not characterising him properly!' stuff is a exercise in epic pointless and missing the point.
@@negligible_reality The manga is, at best, a separate branch of canon, it often conflicts outright with game canon. So no, it doesn't contradict canon unless the particular incarnation of the character has been heard speaking verbally in-game.
@@negligible_reality with how much the manga itself contradicts the games, you can hardly consider it this impeccable canon that defines every version of Link and needs to be a basis for things, otherwise they're "clashing" and "contradicting"
Everybody did Jax dirty😭 I genuinely like him because he’s funny, not because of the weird fanon version they’ve created for him. And I hate the RTC theory that Noel was catfishing Mischa as Talia. You can be a Nischa shipper and think that him and Talia had something beautiful
RTC MENTIONED i hate that as well, personally i dont even ship them (mischa literally has a girlfriend after all) but even if i did think under the context they got together i just...dont think he would do that. its extremely out of character for him
5:57 I have a similar thing like this in my fandom. One of the characters is a downright terrible person, but from content made by their creators, it can be implied that they were manipulated into being that way by the higher-ups of their home country. I find this every interesting because it fleshes their character out A LOT. But it’s so hard to find fics of their childhood without it being people trying to justify their actions. Like, at the end of the day, they’re still a terrible person. I want their actions explained, not justified.
One of FieryJoker/Firebrand's friends is evel calleed the "queen of Headcannon",I feel like she'd be very interesting. There's also the WMG & Epileptic Trees pages on the MLP:FiM Tvtropes page.
the ethnicities of the characters is an interesting one, kinda like with knuckles, because they've already been drawn as human in canon just with their skin being unnatural colours. also i think i saw a debate about overweight pinkie pie once
giving heather c a sad backstory destroys the purpose of her character. shes supposed to be the selfish, rich white girl that is just pure evil with no true purpose. thats also why her main colour is red (as it is used to represent evil) like i love her too but don't try to justify her actions??
Also the whole point of the literal beginning of the conflict is a fake su*cide note that Veronica makes up to give her this comedic tragic inner life she never actually had.
Also I really really love Heather m but she’s not some softie, she has good in her but she contributed to the bullying. Yes she was suicidal but that doesn’t make her a confused soft little baby
@Vv4mpz this! i really love heather m too, but the entire fandom babies her too much. it also feels disrespectful to suicide survivors to just baby her because she attempted

c!Ranboo being an uwusoft memoryboy that can’t fight and is all shy and timid and “has the backbone of a chocolate eclair” (that’s a favorite phrase people throw around). He’s literally not that. He’s strong, he shouts, he’s a rulebreaker, he cares fiercely for his loved ones over anything else. But the fact that c!Dream constantly mind-controls him and c!Ranboo is weak to the influence - the fact that c!Ranboo is a VICTIM - compels people to make him all docile and timid. Yes, he’s anxious, but not because he’s “shy”. It’s because he’s literally getting tormented and has to sleep with one eye open. It just rubs me the complete wrong way.
I know! I’ve always considered c!ranboo a really strong character because he can carry on the way he does . What he’s going through is horrific and he still chooses to face his tormentor to help his friends, that is NOT “backbone of a chocolate eclair” behaviour!
@@glitchedoutdusk3231 thank you! You get it! It feels like character assassination almost to reduce his response to a real threat (being a victim of said threat) as a flaw of his character. It was always about the people for Ranboo, and he backed up whatever he preached with his own actions. No matter who disagreed with him, he stuck to his own code. No matter how much Dream ruined him by severing his ties with people, he stuck to it, and that takes a level of mental/physical strength and firm moral values that most of the other people just didn’t have.
I don't like it when a fanbase leans toward the feminization of a male character just so they make them the bottom in a gay relationship. Not only is it out of character, but it reeks of sexist stereotyping. Sometimes they even go so far as to misrepresent the character as being shorter when in canon they are the same height or taller. The entire brony fandom is based on headcanons, which is hilarious because anytime Hasbro tried to affirm or deny the fanon it would somehow blow up spectacularly in everyone's faces. "Sweet snow" If you were around in the 90s and watched anime, then you know. I specifically hate the fan hc that Bakugo Mitsuki is abuse to her son. I'm also not a fan of Bakugo being deaf or hard of hearing. He yells a lot because he's an asshole. Full stop. But I don't hate that as much as I do the first one. A fan hc that I actually like/find funny is Vox having an Alastor body pillow. I doubt it, but the idea amuses me.
I've never watched mha so sorry if I get anything wrong, but I think Bakugo is the bomb explosives guy right? I think him having hearing problems isn't a surprise. Though they are born with these powers so there could be a chance he just developed some kind of immunity towards sound damage
@@jaslikeart Like I said, it doesn't bother me as much as the people making his mom abusive.. It's more so that it's become a fanon thing that people insist on just so they can use it to alter the character. But basically if you are born with your quirk(the powers) then your body is adapted to them, so he should actually be immune. The only people who are personally physically affected negatively by their own quirks are the ones who, we later find out, received them through artificial means from someone else or if you severely overwork it all at once. Think of it this way, his sweat is the explosive and it going off has never damaged his skin or blown his arms off. If it can't hurt the parts of him that are directly and immediately affected by it, why would it damage his hearing?
@@aprilvaiarella435wasn't Bakugo's mom abusive to him though? Isn't she the one who messed up his face? I've only watched season two though so I'm only going off of that
@@jovianmelendez No, I have no idea what you mean by messed up his face. She never did anything like that. The worst she's done is smack the back of his head when he was being incredibly rude to the teachers after the Kamino incident. It's a comedic scene so the smacks aren't meant to be taken as actually painful. Mostly she just yells at him when he misbehaves (he's completely comfortable yelling back)and it's because she understands that his behavior could be damaging to his chosen career and she wants him to be successful. Basically, she is stern but supportive and knows that her son has personality difficulties that he needs to correct. Her being abusive is entirely fanon.
I come to (gently) defend the Frisk is mute headcanon. By which I mean, I’m here to give my thoughts on it. I don’t view Frisk (or Kris for that matter) as mute. If someone is mute, they cannot speak at all. I view both of these protagonists as selectively mute. They can speak and do from time to time, but prefer not to. Frisk can sing or hum and they do often, but when it comes to things like telling jokes or flirting, it’s never stated that they’re using their voice, and I personally headcanon that both they and Kris use sign language instead. Yes, this suggests that all the other characters know whatever particular signing system they’re using, which isn’t very realistic, but even so, it’s nice to have characters with uncommon traits like that. It’s also why I, a blind person, follow the Frisk is blind headcanon. Even if it’s not explicitly canon, it’s nice to be able to project my disability onto them since I rarely come across well written BVI characters, especially in video games Edit: Apologies to anyone who I misrepresented in the original wording of my comment. When I use the term nonverbal, I admit to using it in a very casual and possibly callow way. I’ve edited my wording to keep from causing any further issues. If there’s anything else I need to change to fix my mistake, please don’t hesitate to let me know
fascinating! i'd love to hear more about the 'frisk is blind' headcanon, if you're willing to share? i've never heard of that one before but it sounds super interesting!
@@arsonistnpc Sure thing! So, a lot of people who headcanon Frisk being blind started it because it looks like their eyes are closed, something that many fictional character who are blind are depicted having. I know that some people don’t like that specific portrayal, but I don’t mind it. My own eyes are abnormally small-the primary cause of my blindness-and unless I widen them, they often look like they’re closed to the people around me. Frisk starts off in the Underground with a stick for a weapon because they’re using it as a cane and, even when they un equip it as their weapon, it continues to be used as such. In some of my different takes on it, they get a proper cane from another character, sometimes Toriel, sometimes one or both of the skeleton brothers. The Ruins and Snowdin are both difficult to travel through on account of having not very cane friendly flooring (i.e. the leaves all over the Ruins and all the, well, snow in Snowdin). Waterfall isn’t the best, but it has a better echo than other areas, though the presence of too many echo flowers can make it confusing to navigate, which is why having MK to travel with is so helpful for them. There is no run feature in game because it’s difficult to run and tap or sweep your cane at the same time without risking falling or running into something. Now you may be wondering, “How can they read if they’re blind?” I have two possible answers for you :D Option 1: NarraChara suggests that the words on signs, notes and plaques are all being read to Frisk by Chara, as none of them have Braille Option 2: The signs and plaques do have Braille, like many do in real life (at least in public spaces in the US). Or, if that doesn’t work with your interpretation of the Underground, the words could very well be carved/etched into the signs and other places, and while that wouldn’t be as easy or quick to read as Braille, it is still very possible. Also, at least in terms of the walls of Waterfall where you learn more about monster history, it feels very fitting for the words to be etched into the stone. This could also explain why the Asriel carving is so difficult to make out, because all Frisk is able to feel is the basic shapes and outlines of the image There’s also the possible route of them only being partially blind and not completely so. Maybe they have light perception, maybe color perception. Maybe they even have enough vision to be able to walk without use of a cane. Regardless of how it’s portrayed specifically, I will always view Frisk as visually impaired in some way (also they just look cute as hell with glasses on, as do Chara and Kris)
@@BlindStarLily ooh thats so cool!! ill probably adopt this headcanon into my own character perception, i hadnt even thought about the stick being used as a cane but that makes a lot of sense. so cool, thank you for sharing! :-]
correction, thats not what selective mutism is. i get the confusion because it is pretty poorly named, but selective mutism is an anxiety disorder where someone has the capability of speaking most of the time, but in certain social situations get so anxious they lose the ability. choosing not to speak is a whole different thing entirely.
By how you phrased this it kind of seems like you're confusing nonverbal autism and selective mutism? You can clarify if you want, I didn't just want to assume.
Look, I love and adore the idea of Steve Harrington as a babysitter, but he could NOT handle being a mother figure unless the kids are running straight into danger. The times he does are when there's some sort of pressure or time crunch. He's more of a big brother to them that keeps them out of trouble and tries to set them straight when they see each other. I mean, I won't complain when he's a mom, but a tough-loving brother is more fitting imo
See, I agree, but he acts more like the _situational dad_ of the group. Like, if the kids were all about 5 years younger, I see at least one of them calling him dad by accident at some point, sort of like when you confuse your teacher for your parental figure.
I think the scene of him with the towel thrown over his shoulder & then pointing it at them in season 2 really cemented the mom thing. & then immediately after season 3 he’s somewhat “mother henning” then by letting them into the movies through the ice cream shop & then working with Dustin and Erica- I get where it comes from & I actually like it. But sometimes it does go a bit overboard though
He’s the cool uncle who when the kids are younger think he’s the best babysitter ever but when they look back on it as adults they realize he was awful at his job but still fun.
@@sketchycat6223 Yeah that’s my thought as well. I’ve seen fics where Steve “rescues” the kids from their actual parents and it’s like ok guys.. time to take a step back.
a headcannon that often annoys me is if theirs a gay ship, one of the guys HAS to be super feminine/wear dresses & skirts. of course there’s nothing wrong with that but people are allowed to be masculine and gay!! one of the characters doesn’t automatically need to dress super feminine to be in a gay relationship, they can both be masculine!
The biggest pet peeve of mine is when people make the silly character dumb. I swear so many fandoms will take a character who’s unserious and make them so dumb and childish when it’s not even close to canon **coughs** RWBY fandom **coughs**
that or when they make the upbeat silly character secretly depressed, it's like they can't fathom someone being genuinely cheerful. like sure some people use comedy to cope with sadness or trauma, but sometimes people are just goofy because they like to be, not every character needs a sad backstory
Fr like many silly characters get called dumb even though they can be the smartest character. People will only accept them as smart if they show their smartness often.
Okay I have a bone to pick with 11:46 Laios isn't headcanoned autisic, he's heavil implied to be it in the source material itself. The only reason he never looks straight at the camera and says "I'm autistic" is because the setting probably hasn't created the term yet. Laios being autistic is heavily supported by canon itself and not something people pulled out of thin air. Edit because lord the replies: Multiple times throughtout both the anime and Manga of Dungeon Meshi Laios is shown to not be able to connect with other people very well, have the innability to understand social norms, and even be intensely interested in a topic (aka having a special interest). All of those being things that indicate him being on the spectrum plus more traits of his that I can't remember off the top of my head. And these aren't just accidental traits of his, but things that are intentionally written into his character. Dungeon Meshi is incredibly well written with an attention to detail that is impressive on multiple accounts, now I'm not the writer but it doesn't take a genius to say the writer of Dungeon Meshi did in fact intend for Laios to be autistic coded just by paying attention to the source material.
Him being autistic is why Kabru can't understand him, because Kabru is used to people hiding what they want and following the social rules, while Laios is just out here eating monsters. (Kabru is autistic and his special interest is people)
YES exactly this. Had to pause the video at that part to take a deep breath lol. Just because the character doesn’t announce to the audience that they’re autistic/neurodivergent don’t mean that they are not. I get a feeling the whoever made that comment is the kind of person who would believe that Yuri and Victor from Yuri On Ice are just really really good friends.
ugh, my people, finally!!! yeah that one was just a weird take lmao. sometimes headcanons come from evidence and just bc you can't see it for whatever reason/it's not EXPLICITLY STATED doesn't mean it's not there. this just sounds like a person who refuses to read between the lines, especially when it suits them.
I really don’t like the Noel is catfishing Mischa theory/headcanon from the ride the cyclone. The only version I like is Mischa knows Noel is Talia and they’re secretly dating, using “Talia” as a way to hide. I like to imagine Talia is real to give Mischa something good.
i HATE the noel catfishing theory, how do people not read back that theory and not realise making out the ONE canon gay character to be a manipulator pretending to be something he’s not towards a straight* man.. is a homophobic AND transphobic stereotype
I don’t even know where this came from. Obviously Noel, a character who used his fantasies to cope with a dissatisfying life, isn’t gonna want to turn around and ruin someone else’s fantasy.
I really prefer the theory that Noel had been catfished by someone in the past and was afraid Mischa could experience the same thing with Talia, that's why he warned him and convinced him it was better if he just lived in blissful ignorance. But I do like to think Talia is real, so I'm always switching headcanons lol
I can kinda understand why some people will hc teachers or mentors as being parent figures it's a cute found family dynamic and I can understand people getting tired of it and for me it depends on the fandom and teachers/mentors
@yay29823 yeah I think part of it for me personally is while I have a good relationship with my mom at times (especially as an adult now) it feels like we're more friends than a parent child relationship. When I was younger it definitely felt more like a parent child relationship but when I grew up more and more it felt like she treated more as a friend than a child while with teachers in their profession they're more required to keep that level of professionalism that makes them treat the students as kids. I hope that makes sense from my personal experience for why I tend to like it more
Yeah I think it depends if they're just like a regular teacher to a bunch of kids or if it's more of a one-on-one close bond, and whether the kid has parental figures already. Like I love the hc where All might is basically Deku's dad, or Iron man with Peter Parker, but I don't really get it for Aizawa.
11:30 I mostly agreed til they brought up laios and it being okay to say a canon lesbian isnt a lesbian. itd just be erasure to say a character thats canonically this kind of queer is another kind of queer or just entirely straight and theres so much in dungeon meshi to give support to the idea of laios being autistic, the hyperfixation on monsters and his constant infodumps on them, not getting social cues or not factoring in the feelings of others, that time he stimmed in the doppelganger episode (admittedly in the manga Ive gotta assume it was meant to be more like that thing wrestlers do to warm up and it got lost in translation) and heaps more evidence
yeah me too, i agreed generally UNTIL they mentioned Laios as an example. as someone with autism, i do headcanon him to be autistic. and while i have no problem with others disagreeing, it's a bit offputting to see someone be annoyed with people headcanoning him as autistic. like... i know what they said BUT IT IS PRACTICALLY CANON? he could plausibly get diagnosed irl with that behavior of his, and he seems to be quite good representation. there's seriously no harm in disagreeing! but EVERYONE should be respectful. on both sides, and to both sides. also, when they mentioned 'practically canon' being annoying, i was super confused. like, if it isn't used to justify disrespect or harassment, why would it be annoying in cases where it's accurate??? its just a way of describing the headcanon in terms of similarity to canon??
checking the dsm-5 to diagnose laios rn edit: using cdc (.gov) article 'Clinical Testing and Diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder', *yes* he is (most likely) autistic
I fully agree with you, especially in the context of Japanese culture. Hell, we're not sure of the reason but they refused to accept the question "is Laios autistic" at a Q&A pannel with Ryoko Kui. We can't be sure, but it could easily have been because of the stigmatization sorrounding autism. Not only is Laios not stereotyped and gives plenty of textbook exemples of autism, but Dungeon Meshi itself is a story that invites the reader to engage by not handing them all the information explicitrly all the time. I've been in the mp100 fandom so I know what accidental coding can look like (ONE struggles writing female characters and thus male bonds are stronger, that's how you end up with pretty gay Reigen & Serizawa subtext), but Dunmeshi and Laios feel different than that.
Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. This whole idea of “if it’s ok for ThE GaYs to headcanon characters without a canon sexuality as GaY then I should be allowed to erase a canonically queer character’s identity”. That’s… very blatant homophobia. Like, for one, there’s a difference between “headcanon that is neither confirmed nor denied in canon” and “‘headcanon’ that’s just ignoring canon completely” and also, YOU ARE NOT STARVED FOR STRAIGHT CHARACTERS! The genuine majority of fictional characters are cishet, to a completely unrealistic degree, you don’t have to go erasing one of the few canon queer characters. God, homophobia is so dumb.
I don't think laios was written specifically as autism rep but he does a damn good job of it and could probably get diagnosed if he was a real person, so bringing him up as an example of 'people crowing about something being practically canon' did kind of rub me the wrong way
My biggest pet peeve is when I have a headcannon based on movie cannon, and then someone tells me it’s not accurate to the book. It’s not supposed to be! It’s based on the movie and it’s a *headcannon*
Personally I adore the "Link is mute/selectively mute" headcanons. It's obviously not actually canon for the reasons the person in the video expressed, but fan content is about having fun and playing with the possibilities of an established universe, and having a protagonist be mute and have canon things related to the character that compliment it very well is so fun and refreshing to me!
i mean, it technically WAS canon, as in link was mute before the events of botw, once he got knighted. it is selective, however, and doesn’t apply during botw likely bcs of his resurrection and loss of memory
I’m gonna get murdered for this but when someone says you can’t ship two characters because theyre “sibling coded” I just get angry. Are they actually siblings? No. Back in the old days of tumblr, characters were being shipped with themselves. So pipe down.
This!!! And the whole “you can’t ship (same character) as different AUs together because it’s the same character that’s problematic!!” when it’s not as long as they’re both adults in both AUs.
For me it depends on what there is in canon, like how I really hate how Kalim and Jamil is one of the most popular ships in the Twisted Wonderland fandom even though the literal start of the game explains that Kalim considers Jamil to be his brother despite their not being related. Also, don't even get me started on the Obey Me fandom and Dialovers fandom's treatment of actual siblings who aren't related, like how all the brothers in Obey Me are referred to as the brothers and they consider eachother to be brothers and family and introduce eachother as being brothers yet the fandom acts like it's fine to ship them because they're not blood related as if chosen family isn't a valid family, or how I've seen some people ship Kino and Yuuri despite Kino literally being Yuuri's adoptive brother who his dad adopted when they were both kids
@@purpledshadowas a fellow undertale au fan i get this, im not a huge shipper and very new to the fandom but like...atp these are 2 very different people, amd so long as theyre both consenting adults i see no issue with it.
In the FNaF fandom, people act like William is a poor misunderstood soul because his kids dies and that the crying child has to forgive Michael for the bite, no. William is a child killer and I feel like he's at least partly responsible for the crying child's death for not stopping the bullying and he canonically made the killing machine that killed his daughter and killed his business partner's daughter. And the crying child was bullied by his older brother every day to the point of nightmares and died due to a dumb prank gone wrong that would've traumatized him if he lived. He has every right to hate Michael for this, sorry will not give him his life back.
I imagine Crying Child hate speech to Michael like this: "How could you do that, to your own brother?! I hate you. I've ALWAYS hated you. I'm going to kill you, and I'm going to make it HURT. Oh, how I miss the way you used to cry when father screamed at you. It's going to get SO MUCH worse. I'm going to get out and I'm going to find you, and I'll give you a REAL reason to cry..." Yes this is William Afton speech from FNAF VHS
I say it’s less about the CC needing to forgive Michael - because nobody is obligated to be forgiven, especially for being such shitty people before - and more about it making the CC more at peace with what happened, enough to ignore it and pass on like most other characters do. Because frankly, it seems like if a ghost doesn’t feel ready to pass on in FNaF, they fucking won’t, no matter what anyone does about it. UCN made that very clear about the vengeful spirit, Afton’s existence is dedicated to that and the blob is still around. It’s not something the CC has to do, but it’s something that’ll help him step away from everything if he does, or even just forgets if he can’t forgive. The whole duo soul thing is probably a reason why the CC’s been made to be so forgiving in the fandom - it’s to contrast the vengeful spirit, who is not forgiving at all and so ends up stuck away from their family to keep hurting the same man for their whole life.

Ugh, I hate the heteronormativity-sation of gay relationships, especially m/m ones.
this is somewhat unrelated but the huge amount of trans smut in f/f fanfiction is a topic that needs to be studied cause there’s like nothing without penis. i thought trans/futa was some niche kink but it’s like… more than 2/3 of f/f smutfics. im confused
one of my favorite guys, Kaveh, is lovingly dubbed "Princess Kaveh" but sometimes it comes from the people who do this to him and I'm not a fan of that at all. I think they mean a headcanon in a fandom can become the worst to them because they feel they are forced to "accept" it.
Like okay? Hypocritical much?😭
@@cameronjohnson-tw7vvYou're right, it's The Agenda

I'm super happy when I see in the tags that the stereotypically "feminine" character will be the top ! But sometimes (too often) I begin reading the fic and I realized they turned him into some sort of macho man who doesn't look anything like him. It's so disappointing....
ALWAYS the shorter one. Like just go and read a straight romance instead of ruining our ship
I don't exactly dislike the headcanon, it's just bizarre reasoning to me, in a way it's more understandable when someone says "I hc them as trans bc I kin them and I'm trans" or "idk, just because ig"
Especially when there's already a character design reason.
I see this a lot and it really bothers me, yeah.
Saw this and IMMEDIATELY thought of Butters from South Park. (Especially how he got HC as trans coz he used a disguise to look as a girl and seemed feminine sometimes - like when he danced with a pink tutu)

You know what? This is a version of that headcanon that I can't argue against.
Bespoke: Link communicates entirely in random yells and grunts, and everyone else just assumes what they want him to say.
Heres my personal head cannon for silent protags: selective muteness
Makes more sense tbh because most of the time these characters will be seen verbally speaking with characters they are more comfortable with in canon
Not really the term of woke, but Link speaking telepathy doesn't really make sense.
@@Duothimir so he's mute, then
This might be a controversial take but I feel like most trans headcanons are kinda reductive and based purely in gender stereotypes, like a girl that likes "masculine" things? Nope trans boy! A boy who likes "feminine" things? Nope trans girl! Like I thought gender stereotypes were a bad thing?
FR tho. fandoms always seem to hate the usual gender stereotypes, but then moving on to another stereotype.
REAL. Especially because it only serves to promote rigid gender roles. These also drive me up the wall by how much I've seen them bleed into real life and into the things people say to me 😭
Same.
[slight wall of text warning, for people who have a life lol]
They want control over what other people think and say, in a "IT'S EITHER ALL THE WAY AGREEING WITH ME OR DOESN'T COUNT/IT'S TRANSPHOBIC BECAUSE I SAY SO AND I WANT TO INVALIDATE YOUR OPINION" way due to self entitlement.
Woman with short hair? Nah must be nonbinary.
I THOUGHT THE NONBINARY = AFAB WITH SHORT HAIR STEREOTYPE WAS A BAD THING 💀
Don't forget the 'masculine girl' is a trans girl and the 'feminine boy' is a trans boy. Tho I've mostly seen the first, like Linn from the loud house or Luisa from Encanto are headcannoned trans girls.

People can platonically love each other without being siblings.
Nothing to do with Canon.
also its deadass forcing a headcanon onto you like cool you see them as siblings but i dont
Don't get me started on "canonically close friends called each other 'brother', sometimes while literally being brothers-in-arms, therefore shipping them is incest and if you do, you are immoral"

i really don’t like how SO many fandom lgbt+ headcanons are just boiled down to mean girl = lesbian, goofy girl = bisexual, shy character = asexual, outgoing/confident character = pansexual, non-human or evil character = agender and/or aroace, etc. like dude i love if you see yourself in a character and are headcanoning them with your labels because of that, but most of the time it’s people doing it based off of stereotypes 😭
I also just need more queer redheads in my life and she reminds me of my mom, a queer redhead
this is precisely why one of my favorite characters to headcanon as aroace is hau from pokémon sun & moon

It's so annoying to see people write them that way. As if a character can be either silly/funny OR serious/smart but not both.

Heck, even female characters that are either straight or don’t have a defined sexual orientation are automatically considered lesbians in fannon
Yes, there are masculine lesbians in real life, but there’s also several feminine lesbians! And not every tomboy is automatically a lesbian either (she might be straight, bi, pan, ace, etc.). And not every bisexual woman is hyper feminine either, there are plenty of bi women that are more “masculine” as well
Can we PLEASE have more diversity with female lgbtq+ characters?!
As a fem bi woman, I want fem/fem relationships shown without this precise issue
(My gf is a masc lesbian and I'm a bi fem, I am the issue)
let me be a strawberry-shortcake-t-shirt-and-cute-purple-skirt-wearing lesbian!!! but yeah i absolutely adore feminine characters and identify with them and am a lesbian
if it makes u feel better a lot of people headcanon glinda the more feminine character in wicked as a lesbian and elphaba the sorta more masc character as bi !!! (at least i do lol)
I have a few:
-When the fandom straight up forgets that the characters are teens/children.
(Also, need I even mention comphet/twinkification?)
-Saying a character is lazy/stupid because they're autistic or vice versa. Oh man I cannot bgin to express my disdain for this.

As someone has once said "I'm sorry your childhood was fucked up, but mine wasn't."
Like just because you're constantly struggling with a mental health as an adult or know people who are struggling with mental health as an adult, doesn't mean that happy and joyful adult characters are children. Kids aren't the only people who find joy and excitement in everyday life and like toys and bubbles and sugar, lots of adults are the same and you shouldn't categorize them as little kids because they aren't.
And no matter the personality of the adult, it's okay to ship them with another adult.

I always saw Nifty and Alastor as like fun siblings, kind of a big brother/ little sister dynamic. But yeah, Nifty is actively fantasizing about relationships, drinks alcohol, and has a job, girly is not a child.

A lot of the fandom tends to forget that the characters are around 14-15. Let them be goofy and silly! Let them do normal teenage things! The fandom so often forgets that these guys at the end of the day are teenagers who just are forced into becoming superheroes.

Making every single friendship a relationship. I love friends to lovers as much as anyone else, but sometimes it just gets excessive.
Leshawna x Gwen and Charlie x Alastor are the worst offenders of this imo
YEEEES.
I hate it when there are such amazing platonic friendships that literally feel like families: siblings, cousins even parent/child energy and there will always be someone shipping them
I HATE IT WITH ALL MY HEART, GIMME THAT BROTHERHOOD

What bothers me the most is when people say that these headcanons are good LGBT representation, when in reality they are more damaging than anything else due to how often they stereotype characters.
yeah, those headcanon deserve to exist only for the purpose of shipping, and nothing else! nothing else i say!
As a gay man who does sexuality hcs, fair enough- I don’t care UNLESS it’s based in stereotyping and harmful ideas of how LGBTQ+ people act, yk?

I mean honestly idrc about people’s head canons unless:
1. They DRASTICALLY make the character ooc (like more mean or more soft when they are the clear opposite of that)
2. When they think their hc is canon and then get mad at people who don’t use their hc
But other than that I feel like people should hc whatever they want as long as it’s not harming or stereotyping someone.

HELL YEAH THIS!!!
Same, though it also bugs me when people write non-binary characters as strictly male or female. Especially if the majority of the Fandom does it in the same direction. It feels like erasure. Especially altering the pronouns to either he/him or she/her instead of at least retaining canon they/them pronouns (while they/them would imply a gender nonconforming character unless otherwise stated, some cis people do use those, so it's kind of excusable I suppose, though by that logic you could headcanon a lot of characters as being the opposite of their Canon gender just with Canon pronouns.)

To quote the man himself: "Just because I had "spider" sense didn't mean I had *common* sense."
He's not naive or clueless.
Ok but the og Peter Parker was never a clueless idiot.

Highlight on "Nico should be hugged because he fucking needs it"
@@arthurdias6860 Yeah, it's a bit weird how the fandom made a huge thing out of that one line.

For Link and Frisk (and silent protagonists in general) I just imagine they can talk but do so very little just bc they feel like it lol
I mean, at least in BotW/TotK, that is pretty much the case for Link. That's essentially what it says in Zelda's journal.
Confirmed for game Red (Pokemon). Mimic girl copies what he's saying and adult Blue confirms his tendency towards silence at the Battle Tree.
BTW, ^this^ applies to Red from Pokemon. I assume this excludes the canonically silent ones.
The thing about Link being mute is that there are multiple versions of Link across the games that are canonically not the same Link, so while several versions do canonically talk, I can see why people headcanon some of the different versions as mute
But ofc if people dont want that headcanon thats okay too
Although that does fall apart when you realize that the manga is canon, and Link canonically speaks in all versions of the manga.
@@negligible_reality The manga isn't canon, and it often directly conflicts with the game lore

Even if it’s not explicitly canon, it’s nice to be able to project my disability onto them since I rarely come across well written BVI characters, especially in video games
Edit: Apologies to anyone who I misrepresented in the original wording of my comment.
Now you may be wondering, “How can they read if they’re blind?” I have two possible answers for you :D
Option 1: NarraChara suggests that the words on signs, notes and plaques are all being read to Frisk by Chara, as none of them have Braille
Option 2: The signs and plaques do have Braille, like many do in real life (at least in public spaces in the US). This could also explain why the Asriel carving is so difficult to make out, because all Frisk is able to feel is the basic shapes and outlines of the image
There’s also the possible route of them only being partially blind and not completely so.

To be fair, canon also does that too. Look at Mikey from TMNT
that or when they make the upbeat silly character secretly depressed, it's like they can't fathom someone being genuinely cheerful. like sure some people use comedy to cope with sadness or trauma, but sometimes people are just goofy because they like to be, not every character needs a sad backstory
Fr like many silly characters get called dumb even though they can be the smartest character. People will only accept them as smart if they show their smartness often.
@@pisces2569
Wasn't there an episode about how mikey felt like he was being treated dumb by his brothers in the 2012 tmnt?
Or similarly, when they headcanon the dumb character as autistic… just offensive, and there usually isn’t much canon evidence.
Also what do they mean by they don't have to write canon lesbians as lesbians 😭😭 that's just erasure
@@Sscorpika OP is a bit odd.
ugh, my people, finally!!! yeah that one was just a weird take lmao. sometimes headcanons come from evidence and just bc you can't see it for whatever reason/it's not EXPLICITLY STATED doesn't mean it's not there. this just sounds like a person who refuses to read between the lines, especially when it suits them.
Yeah!! The actual actor of Noel doesn't like this hc!
Omg yes I HATE that headcanon 😭 like sure I like Mischa x Noel but in no way do I believe Noel would be catfishing him???
I don’t even know where this came from. Obviously Noel, a character who used his fantasies to cope with a dissatisfying life, isn’t gonna want to turn around and ruin someone else’s fantasy.
I really prefer the theory that Noel had been catfished by someone in the past and was afraid Mischa could experience the same thing with Talia, that's why he warned him and convinced him it was better if he just lived in blissful ignorance.
But I do like to think Talia is real, so I'm always switching headcanons lol
3:30 THIS!!! OMG BRO PERCY IS GENUINELY SMART IN BATTLE AND CAPABLE AND IM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE MISCHARACTERIZING HIM AS DUMB
EXACTLY! he’s canonically smart! Annabeth even says that he’s smart! Him being oblivious for like 5 books DOESNT MAKE HIM DUMB!
When I started watching Tonka Joey's channel, It always gave me the vibe of "Matt Rose but for fandoms" for some reason.
MATT ROSE MENTIONED!!

SKULL EMOJIIIIIIIIII💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I can kinda understand why some people will hc teachers or mentors as being parent figures it's a cute found family dynamic and I can understand people getting tired of it and for me it depends on the fandom and teachers/mentors
I never understood why I loved mentors as a parent figure, it just felt very sweet
Like I love the hc where All might is basically Deku's dad, or Iron man with Peter Parker, but I don't really get it for Aizawa.
imo it works with kakashi purely because while, yes, he is definitely a mentor,
he also just kinda acts like a single mom at times and it's funny
Honestly I love that trope
11:30 I mostly agreed til they brought up laios and it being okay to say a canon lesbian isnt a lesbian. itd just be erasure to say a character thats canonically this kind of queer is another kind of queer or just entirely straight and theres so much in dungeon meshi to give support to the idea of laios being autistic, the hyperfixation on monsters and his constant infodumps on them, not getting social cues or not factoring in the feelings of others, that time he stimmed in the doppelganger episode (admittedly in the manga Ive gotta assume it was meant to be more like that thing wrestlers do to warm up and it got lost in translation) and heaps more evidence
yeah me too, i agreed generally UNTIL they mentioned Laios as an example. as someone with autism, i do headcanon him to be autistic. and while i have no problem with others disagreeing, it's a bit offputting to see someone be annoyed with people headcanoning him as autistic. like... i know what they said BUT IT IS PRACTICALLY CANON? he could plausibly get diagnosed irl with that behavior of his, and he seems to be quite good representation. there's seriously no harm in disagreeing! but EVERYONE should be respectful. on both sides, and to both sides.
also, when they mentioned 'practically canon' being annoying, i was super confused. like, if it isn't used to justify disrespect or harassment, why would it be annoying in cases where it's accurate??? its just a way of describing the headcanon in terms of similarity to canon??
checking the dsm-5 to diagnose laios rn
edit: using cdc (.gov) article 'Clinical Testing and Diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder', *yes* he is (most likely) autistic
Yea like ones where they have people just acting like he’s saying stuff to him when he hasn’t said anything ever are so funny to me-
I’m gonna get murdered for this but when someone says you can’t ship two characters because theyre “sibling coded” I just get angry.
True, but I’ve seen some people ship adopted siblings which is a little weird to me.
You just brought up so many horrible Onceler memories with that "shipped with themselves" line LMFAOOO
He has every right to hate Michael for this, sorry will not give him his life back.
this, let characters be bad dawg
@@staeriix Facts
I imagine Crying Child hate speech to Michael like this:
"How could you do that, to your own brother?! I hate you. I've ALWAYS hated you. I'm going to kill you, and I'm going to make it HURT. Oh, how I miss the way you used to cry when father screamed at you. It's going to get SO MUCH worse. I'm going to get out and I'm going to find you, and I'll give you a REAL reason to cry..."
Yes this is William Afton speech from FNAF VHS
Yeah, I don't see many people doing that.
I'm sorry but 11:48 feels homophobic if someone is a canon sexuality not writing them as said sexuality is weird
Fr tho, I paused when they said that
so writing gay fic of straight characters isn't okay?
