Wow this brought back so many childhood memories for me... I got teary eyed watching this because I was thinking if my Dad could see this how he would feel.. He started mining in Pioneer and then we moved to Bradian, and eventually Bralorne.. Those were some of the best years of my life and I would not trade them for anything.. This was the place to grow up.. Thank-you for the memories:)

I worked at the mine in the early '60s as a skip-tender on queen shaft. Foreman was Earl Menhenick. My brother-in-law also worked there, Terry Milliken. It was the time of Limey John, Don Tremblay, Vic Herrick, Red Menhenick, Dave Epp, Crazy Charlie and many more. Thanks for the memories,
    Peter "Whiskers" Luttmer

Old Fart grew up there.....my first summer job was clean up in the old Pioneer mill.....would have been 1964-ish...... some of the names you mention are familiar. I went to school with Barry Menhenick....I think he is still up there

Thanks for sharing (although I'm late getting here :) I am getting closer to my retirement and have been dreaming of moving to some little old town (the smaller the better:) and rescuing an old building or two. I think I have found what might be on the top of my list with the location I consider to be absolutely prime for feeling completely isolated but less than 2 hours from civilization :) LOve it ! Going to make my first trip out there next month. - Thank you ! :)

Kootenays ?? ,,, I always thought that the Gold Bridge / Bralorne area was in the Southern Chilcotin ,, nonetheless it's a fabulous area my wife and I worked at Tyax Resort for a number of years. If you like the great outdoors it's a great place to be. You should keep in mind that services are limited ( police, fire, ambulance ) if you need to fuel up avoid fueling up in Gold Bridge, do yourself a favour and go up to Bralorne.
Food supplies at the general store in Gold Bridge are quite expensive as you can imagine due to the cost of the freight. All in all this area has great hunting, fishing, snowmobiling etc. you can feel quite isolated in the wintertime.

Last year I visited the pub in Bralorne and I asked to look at the menu. The lady said, " It's pizza night. We're just serving pizza tonight."

so, you're wondering if there is any gold left in Bralorne....my old friend Al Tracy was a drillers helper working for
Mascot in the mid 80's ...they were drilling up at the top of the hill...Al said there were two hits...one @ 24 ozt au and one at 32 ozt au...even after 4 million ounces had been taken... old Austin Taylor would be grinning....and rightfully so ...

cool video, FYI not (MPB) mountain pine beetle at beginning of your video, not even pine trees. MPB attacks lodge-pole pine, (PLI) not every tree is a pine lol

1:09 is horseshoe canyon way to gold bridge and this is not kootenys. thats south chilcotin.

  • @Moosiepoohkitty1

Bralorne is actually in the southern Chilcotin.

You are actually incorrect. All the mountains surrounding Bralorne (bendor range, cadwallder range, mt noel etc) are in the coast mountain range. Once you cross the bridge river and head north towards gun lake/Tyaughton lake then you are in the south Chilcotins.
