Hakeem Olajuwon. One of the best centers in NBA history!
THE best, he led the league in so many categories, and embarrassed the MVP David Robinson
He'd my C in my all time starting 5
When the NBA games were GAMES. The good old days.
I know
Not like today's game which is stupid.
Amen brother!!😊
This is the only team at 6th seed to beat the Top 4 teams and completely dominate them. They are one of the most underrated Champions of all time
Olajuwon was unstoppable in the 95 playoffs.
Olajuwon dominated Stockton & Malone, KJ & Barkley, Admiral & Rodman, and Shaq & Penny... all on the road. Never a better run@@hectorlopez1069
They traded for a a HOF player in Drexler mid season
Never underestimate the heart of a champion-RTJ
@mythtek1 gave up O.T. then Maxwell quit.. played most of their games on the road..
The Dream avenged his loss to Ewing in college in the first Finals, and then he and Drex helped each other win the 2nd one.. Drex's 1st.. respect!
Facts
Didn't realise how good of a coach Rudy Tomjanovich was respect
The right coach to make a team, champions of the NBA.
Facts. I said the same thing. The players respected him. And Loved him. And vice versa.
He didn't do shit for Lakers😢😅
@@ltatjsallday8709he was coach for a while and then he had to leave because of illness I think.
The Dream was special. As a man and as a player.
the 90s western conference was LOADED with great teams
So was the East. East was tough back then.
Hakeem Olajuwan is the big man version of Jordan. An unbelievable offensive weapon while being a nonpareil defensive player. And Clyde Drexler is the most underrated Superstar in NBA history IMO.
Offensive & Defensively homie
Both are some of the greatest two-way players regardless of position. Hakeem has the edge defensively, cuz it was also his duty to rebound while patrolling the painted area, and so rare that he could come out and defend one-on-one or help on the perimeter
And Hakeem was a far better player than LeBron and Shaq.. just watch the team he won with ..
just think, the rockets passed on Jordan the draft and went with Olajuwon!
Clyde was the real deal !!!! He just didn't chase I bright lights
Most skilled center of all time. Imo the greatest center of all time. Could make his free throws, had mid range, great defender, great rebounder and the best footwork of any big man.
McHale had the best post moves.
@krisharkleroad8 agree to disagree. Gues we just see it differently
Ha, ha. You're funny.
@Dr.ScatKohlenblo-nj2cv your right . He only swept a young healthy shack, beat a mvp david Robinson, dominated Ewing in the finals. Not to mention dominated in big man era
@@krisharkleroad8but McHale wasn't a real Big Man
Nick Anderson was never the same after those 4 missed free throws
He had to move out the city !! 😂
@@DeuceDebonaire dam fr that’s going to far but he did miss 4 straight free throws and he probably lost a lot of bookies money Orlando were heavy favorites over the Rockets in 94-95!
@@ghetto-ceethageneralg.f.m.6804 That was one game out of 4. They got swept. 4-0 with Shaq and Penny.
@@hrpaperstacks3661 he wasn't the same for the rest of his career! I know Orlando got swept I seen it!! 1st year without Clyde Dexler second year with!! Back to back! Then Shaq got swept the next year by the GOAT!
It ended his legacy in basketball
I'm a jordan fan, but hakeem was the best to watch only if you understand the game of basketball👌👌👌
Both Jordan and Olajuwon were hall of fame bound players
I don't remember the first championship Houston won but i remember this one vividly seeing my father ecstatic my mom and uncle's screaming neighbor's outside screaming as well it was a great night to be from Houston i will hold that memory for life
I also remember clearly. Shaq was my dude . I was 16 and was confident that Orlando would win .
Was obsessed to the point my nickname became " SHAQ 😂 .
You guys gave us a whooping and will " also" never forget 😂😆🤨😪.
Memories hey 😂
I remember because I was watching game 7 from my bed while dealing with a sever case of food poisoning. I could only make it so far, I passed out when Kenny banked in his 3, I knew we were going to win after that.
I remember that the GOAT wasn't in the league at the time.
I was lucky enough to discover my hometown Rockets the year before they won back to back ships. Directly inspired a lifelong love of basketball that continues unabated all these years later. Clutch City 4 Life✌️
I recently noticed that Pete Chilcutt started 17 games for the Rockets this season. That's crazy to think that a team that was starting Pete Chilcutt won the NBA title
Better than Nick Anderson.
The 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 Houston Rockets are on the most inspirational teams in sports history. You've got probably one of the best Center ever with Hakeem and bunch of great role players who have stepped up in bigger occasions constantly. Also, Rudy Tomjanovich is one of the greatest figures and coaching characters in NBA history, so underrated 💯
Clyde Drexler is no "role player". Dude is top 50 player & top 5 SG.
@@benyah3390 He was like Karl Malone on 2004 Lakers. Hall of fame career but different role in that team
@@Ozzy1322 naah. Not even close. Drexler was still an allstar player and top 2 SG when he was with Houston. Karl Malone was done by the time he got to LA. Speak on what you know.
@@benyah3390 Agreed my bad
@@benyah3390Neither one of you know what you're talkin' about. Mailman was definitely not "done" in LA. He came right in and proceeded to somehow get 13 ppg, 9 rpg, and 4 dimes while playing with two cats that absolutely _demanded_ the ball night in and night out.
Drex & DR34M.. what a team, great champions !
Two friends do it for the rockets on the second championship.
These were straightforward humble players! Something missing, today, in the NBA
That was a great team, although they beat my New York Knicks team in 1994 ... I still got love for the Rockets ...
They defeated the Knicks, they could of defeated the bulls with Jordan too.
@@hectorlopez1069 the magic knocked jordan and the bulls out of the playoffs this year
@@jpeoplesman1 Jordan only played a few games.
@@kalepwa should have been well rested for the playoffs playing only 17 games in season
this entire decade and era was both amazing and painful and frustrating for fans of other strong teams that were contenders and mainstays in the playoffs like the knicks, the pacers and the utah jazz with stockton and malone. all of these teams pretty much could have been dominant and won repeating back to back championships or 2 in 4 or 3 in 5 or anything like that if jordan and the bulls werent like a supernatural entity during that time that just would not let go and lose. i was a kid and i wasnt even super in love with Mike but it was like watching a fuckin alien play ball. he did NOT miss clutch shots and did things that i still just cannot comprehend like having the flu in a particular shitty year to have the flu and dropping triple doubles and 40 or 50 points and shit. karl malone would be dominant in any era and i feel like both them and the knicks would have multiple trophies if the bulls werent a thing. its fun to theorize but ultimately this era was so fun to watch.
Ppl don't give Coach Rudy enough credit. But he was a great Coach. That his players respected.
Especially compared to the Magic coach during those time outs. Guy said absolutely nothing of substance. Rudy giving Braveheart speeches and shit.
Born & raised in Houston, and no disrespect to Rudy, he was a great motivating coach and he knew how to rile the team up. But as a coaching mind and creating offensive opportunities?? compared to other coaches (phil jackson), he was LIGHT YEARS behind. The Rockets only strategy even after Drexler arrived was to throw it down to Hakeem and let him work or kick it out for a 3 when double teamed. This strategy definitely WORE OUT Hakeem during the championship runs, all while Jordan got 2 years of rest. You can tell by the significant decline in Hakeem’s production from the 95 season to 96 season.
@@StayAKTV Results speaks for themselves his players obviously respected him if they didn't they wouldn't have come back from a 3-1 defecit. He was no Phil Jackson but a good players coach. Especially considering he got the most out of a pretty weak roster outside of Hakeem and Drexler.
The Greatest playoff run maybe in sports history. To upset the 4 beat teams in the NBA that year and beat them all was historic
with 0 homecourt advantage.
Facts
Hakeem's two championship runs were more difficult and impressive than all of Mike's six
The Mavericks 2011 Championship season could arguably be the greatest playoff run of all time! Look it up!
@@TylerHingletonExcept for the part where Dream wouldn't have _had_ any championships if Mike had still been in the league.
You gotta love Hakeem....
My favorite team ever!!! They were amazing and they were the definition of TEAM!!!!
the kiss of death.......greatest elimination shot EVER!!!!
Elie gave a kiss to the suns. The shot to send them straight home.
Agreed. So many elimination shots throughout history, but this one always stands out to me, and doing on the road against an opposing crowd makes it sting even more LMAO
46:38 is a moment in time that I will always remember. Thanks Rudy T.
RIP Rudy T.
TEAM like no other ...Their chemistry was true the roof
Nice victories to beat the jazz, suns, spurs and the magic to bring another title to Houston.
I remembered this team. I currently reside in Houston. at the time of their run, I lived in New Jersey. The people of Houston have a genuinely friendly spirit. This team had the spirit of unity. It was that spirit of unity, combined with their genuine friendship and friendliness that created their championships...
Even with Jordan playing, they still beat Jordan in the Finals, as well.
No one beat jordan in finals
ok bub hug some more trees y dont u? hug a couple for me too.
@@hectorlopez1069 houston never beat chicago youre trippin. houston repeated with back to back championships in 2 years where MJ was retired and correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure he took that time to play baseball for the white sox before coming back to 3 peat once again with the bulls winning the third and final ship in the second 3 peat in 1999.
Watching this brings back so many memories, this was my childhood. I grew up with the Rockets, Hakeem Olajuwon is my favorite player of all time. That summer I attended and met Kenny Smith's basketball camp. I was upset when the Rockets had traded Horry, Smith, Elie and Cassel for Charles Barkely. The team wasn't the same after that. Of course when the Rockets had picked up free agent Scottie Pippen during the 98 season, the shorten season, what looked like a winning team. Barkely and Pippen never saw eye to eye and it was the last season that Hakeem played for Rockets.
As a life long Blazer fan I was a Rocket biased NBA fan those Playoffs. Love seeing Clyde get His. Even if it wasnt in PDX.
I’m a old school Bulls fan but I’ve gotta say this is a team that was humble and deserved the titles they won. Respect ✊
The FACT that the 6th seeded Rockets beat the Top 3 teams in the league during that Playoff run, then swept the top seeded Magic in the Finals that's AMAZING
Tip off my hats to them
I was at both parades after both championships and to describe in a fans view the 2nd season including the playoffs ( friggin roller-coaster ride!)
Wooow I still get chills watching this again and relieving the HEART OF A CHAMPION
90s greatest era of nba/sports. Great vid
My god, what great couple of years of NBA basketball for Houston, my youngest daughter still remembers those days, and she remembers the celebrations afterwards great days for Houston and the Rockets.
This rocket team did very well against the Bulls in the regular season consistently. Hakeem was a unique challenge for them and they never really had good big men, and the big men that the Bulls did have were exceptionally slow, Hakeem was obliterating them
That title win shook the entire league to it's core and altered the history of the NBA. So many what it's in that series....
Respect for David Robinsons game was never the same after that. He will always be remembered for that dismantling by Olajuwon
That's when the rockets was a great team because they had great players congrats to the Rockets for winning they're second chip that year 🎉 💪😁💯
my favorite team in sports history, thanks for the memories! and Hakeem, love you
Double clutch Baby! Clyde the Glide with Hakeem Olajuwon! The team believed in themselves. Rudy and CD led them from the bench.
Go Houston Rockets 🚀! How sweet it is!
I was in the 3rd grade at elementary school. The memories of the past.
Robert Horry earned a lots of rings he is very lucky
He was a great role player tho there is a reason why winning teams always wanted to have him on there team he was clutch and added a winning mentality in the dressing room.
People forget that Jordan got 2 years of REST during those ultra competitive 90s. While Hakeem battled every night as the #1 option on offense AND defense. He did EVERYTHING on the court and deferred to no one. Imagine being the #1 option and getting 30 touches MINIMUM in the post every game and still be the anchor on defense and challenging everything that comes into the paint.
Lol, please. You Rockets fans are reachin'.
Mj is still better as a defender as an offensive player.
Thank you for posting this!
to win league mvp and defensive player of the year AND finals mvp in one year , DAMN !
Only Giannis and Jordan has done. Hakeem also won FMVP and a Chip that season and made ALL NBA 1st team and All Defense 1 st team he literally had the perfect season.
Love my magic but respect to Drex!

I was 13 when they won this title and I know as a Houston sports fan I'll never witness a run like this for the rest of my time on this Earth.
Jordan is the GOAT no doubt about that. But man, watching those Rockets 1995 mentally tough team it would have been a difficult match up for the Bulls. How could they have been able to confront that version of Hakeem. Even if they double team Hakeem somebody else would have been free to make the damage
Agreed. Even Jordan himself stated in an interview that his Bulls had no answer for the big man. With Grant gone to Orlando and no solid replacement to create an effective double team on Olajuwon, the Rockets would be a hard team to stop.
As a Texan and a UH grad this was awesome, but they wouldn’t have beaten the Bulls had Jordan not stepped away from the game when he did. Hakeem would have had great games against the Bulls, but not enough to overcome Jordan.
Fr the Bulls had no good big men in 1995 even if they had made the finals Rockets would have won because Hakeem would have dominated down low. He dominated against Horace Grant and Shaq so he would have been even more lethal vs Luc Longley and Bill Wennington lol.
@@SignalCorps1 I mean Bulls had an awful big men cast in 1995 after Horace grant left so yeah it was possible they basically had no response to him. Rockets would have been a nightmare matchup against the Bulls.

Coach Rudy T.
We all know that Jordan’s first retirement is what kept them from 8 in a row. Glad you got your rings Houston
No one knows that and it’s ridiculous to think otherwise. Maybe the Rockets still win those championships, maybe they win only one, or maybe none. What we do know is that Jordan is on record as saying that his Bulls had matchup nightmares against them and the Rockets were the only team to have a winning record in the regular season against the Bulls in the 90’s.
@@ericmoralez390 in the two years Jordan was gone 93-94 & basically 94-95 they were 2-2 v Houston. Houston was not beating the Bulls in 94 with Jordan and they still had Horace Grant. 95 would have been tough with no Grant but maybe Grant stays if Jordan is still around and doesn’t leave for Orlando.
Grant or no Grant, Hakeem would have had all the bulls bigs on the bench in foul trouble with no one to stop him. Even with Jordan, the rockets had a guy by the name of Vernon Maxwell “mad max” who could consistently slow down MJ and make him work for his points. Either way it’s fun to talk about all these hypotheticals, but unfortunately we’ll never know. It’ll always be one of the NBA’s biggest what ifs 🤷🏻♂️

That comment that Houston couldn’t beat the Bulls YES they did even with Michael Jordan. Michael even admitted that Hakeem is a monster
People tend to forget how special Hakeem Olajuwan was o❤n❤ the court. This Guy grew up playing Soccer. This is where the Foot Work, Speed, and his Moves Originated From. When you combine this with a 7’ Foot Frame and a Will To Win, he’s almost Unbeatable every time he steps on the court.
Hakeem was a goalie so he didn't even learn most of these trades since they are needed for attacking outfield players not keepers he literally got into basketball at 15 and learned all of this from scratch.
All the kids are like “Is this the same Kenny Smith and Shaq from TNT?” 😂

Hakeem owned Barkley.
Ain’t no way this team who struggled with Utah and Phoenix is beating the Bulls!!!!

Whats crazy is people that were alive in 95 say they won because Michael Jordan was out. But if you remember you know he played in the 95 season and into the playoffs. They had no Rodman at the time so they couldn't stop Shaq. Obviously the Rockets went on to sweep the Magic. But i remember Toward then end of the Season they were debating if Michael could be the MVP after missing part of the season and that he and rhe Bulls were the favorite to win the chip. Then 10 years later the revisionist history forgot.
