The first person to recommend this band to me was American. Which is funny because I'm Finnish and this band is Finnish. And I'd been listening to metal for years when I heard of them. 😃 Glad you liked them. Their music makes me happy. ❤
Korpiklaani are ones of modern folk metal pillars. Good to see you listening to them. They also have song in english language, react to Beer Beer, and Tequila. Sorry Tim, I just remember now their alcoholic songs 😆😅
Another epic folk Finnish band is Finntroll. There's also Moonsorrow and Wintersun. Turisas is another Finnish gem, I advice Turisas cover of Rasputin by Boney M. Amazing. Early Amorphis is also something to check out.

Leväluhta/Levänluhta is actually an exceptional Iron Age 300AD - 800AD cemetary. Because the way to bury people in Iron Age Finland was cremations in stone structures. These people have not been burned though and no stone structures, so they apparently did not share the spiritual tradition of other people in the land. One theory was that they could have been sacrificed people or criminals sunk in the swamp. But then it was found out the swamp wasn't there yet when they were buried (there was a lake nearby), there's no sign of violence and the buried had jewelry on them. The people buried were women and children. They took DNA samples from 7 people and found 6 of them ancient Sami people genetically, one person was found "a foreigner" genetically close to Lithuanians, Norwegians and Icelanders. But the band in this song took the more mythical approach and this story is about a woman who was "taken" into her watery grave. Then she returns to call living people join her.-
They are just as awesome live! My favorite album of theirs is Tales along this Road from 2006. Another folk metal to check out is Eluveitie (songs Inis Mona and Thousand fold to start with.) I really enjoy your reactions! Keep up the good work!!
Very difficult to explain.. They're in a kind of a swamp, leväluhta, and singing about it..theres some old finnish folk story with a woman in a swamp/finnish forest fairy/maiden slightly mixed in if I remember that right
Swamps are amazing places, they are like freezers of the nature, if something dies inside a swamp or something is thrown in it it will remain intact for hundreds of years. A lot of Finnish mythology and folklore talks about swamps as these mystical places and the Finnish culture has a lot to do with swamps.
Great reaction! My favorite songs from them are Metsämies, Happy Little Boozer, A Man With a Plan and Juodaan Viinaa. They also have a fantastic atmospheric ballad called Kädet Siipinä. All worth checking out!
ouh my i see and hear also first time. what up lifting song. like you say there is reggae and also gypsy vibe. damn thanx and have great weekend there.
Korpiklaani is very lively band whose music makes you wanna jump and dance. They have a few music videos, "Rauta," "Henkselipoika," "A Man with a Plan" and "Ämmänhauta" to name a few, all good stuff. If you wanna see a prequel to Leväluhta video, that I guess is "Tuuleton."
First, Sorry you're having a bad day my friend. Sending Positive Vibes to you. Hope it gets better. It's is a very uplifting song to hear sonically. Check out the lyric translation just provided in the comments by Pentele.
Nice reaction....... I recommend Korpiklaani songs like Pilli pajusta tehty, Lempo, Louhen yhdeksäs poika, Happy little Boozer, A man with a plan...... Also Jonne personal songs and Shaman duo (pre Korpiklaani). Friend Samuli is great drummer
In my wheelhouse! The video...OK, let me help. Have you heard of "Bog people"? Way back, thousands of years ago, places like this were where the two worlds had access to each other. Places where Earth and water met and murged, places where you could send sacrifices to the gods. Sometimes that sacrifice was a nicely made pot, a perfect spear head, a knife or sword. Sometimes the sacrifice was a person. They could be strangled, struck on the head or have their throat cut. Then the bodies were laid to rest in one of these pools. Soon, the acids from the peat growing over them would mummify the bodies. People cutting peat nowadays keep finding the sacrifices in the peat. Eerie. The bodies are so well preserved, the finders think that they have found a recent murder victim, and call the police and coroner. Imagine everyone's embarrassment when the truth is revealed!
Yeah this is about Leväluhta swamp which is one of the oldest known burial sites in Finland. There are no signs of violence in the bones, so it was probably just a place to dumb the bodies. There are still multiple theories about who the people where and why they were placed there, tho.
It's not one of the oldest burial sites at all, there are burials several thousands of years older. But there's usually no human remains found in Finnish soil, because the soil is such it consumes organic materials too fast. This being a swamp (nowadays) however preserved the bodies, so they are the oldest found human remains. Check out my other comment for more details of this burial site.
Hey, Tim👋 Welcome to the world of Folk Metal! We have Metal instruments and classical folk instruments and songs in both English and foreign languages. Please enjoy your stay! 😄 Speaking of Folk Metal, i ’ll have to introduce you to another band called Månegarm. They have a lot of good songs (almost all in Swedish, of course) but i have one special song in mind. The song is called Hemfärd (wich means ’homecoming’ or ’homeward journey’). Here it is: ruclips.net/video/RBZIR6umrN8/видео.html Also: the violin (fiddle) is played by Janne Liljeqvist and the female singer in the beginning and towards the end of the song is Ymer Mossige-Norheim, neither of whom are apart of the band anymore.
