If he had a major label backing and even 25% of backing that Metallica had he would still be doing it. I believe the album only sold like less than 100k copies. I don't blame him.

I'm 40 now, but I can still remember listening to the garage days $5.98 EP and saying to myself "I'm gonna learn everything he just played" and I'm still smashing the 5 strings to this day.

He gave it all he had, and that alone is what makes Jason a total class act. The Echobrain project became too expensive to maintain as a solid band, even Jason admitted it during an interview. But despite the financial burden, he flew wide open with his creative style. This dude is no mere bassist for hire, he was part of Metallica and remains so still.
He will first and foremost always be the Bassist and songwriter of Flotsam & Jetsam for me. The songs he wrote in that band are better than anything he worked on with Metallica imo. Much better bassriffs, Metallica never allowed him to truly shine like he did back then.

I really hope Jason sets up a Newstead RUclips channel and gets this and future albums onto streaming sites. I get that touring is expensive, but it should be easier for people to find the music so that the fanbase can grow over time. Metallica are so bad now that many people are crying out for an alternative which this music nicely fills and I expect it will also get better over time as the band matures and evolves.

Metallica are so bad now that many people are crying out for an alternative which this music nicely fills and I expect it will also get better over time as the band matures and evolves.
