Fasting is vital. Even the healthiest person should fast sometimes. Starve cancer cells, eat clean, stay away from junk food and processed foods. Keep a positive mindset.
Wonderful rundown!! I fasted last year before my breast cancer TC chemo treatments (every 3 weeks). I did 48hours pre chemo plus 24 hours after chemo drip was done. I never had nausea, and felt generally very good! FASTING plus 9 CUPS of veg a day and plenty of mineral broth on non fasting days I believe really TRULY made an incredible difference in my health I highly recommend.
Glad to hear it worked so well for you! Good job getting to 72 hours fasting. I was never 100% clear on how long the chemo was actually "active" and killing cells in the body. Eating healthy on non-fasting days is certainly very important, too.
@@vikavikochka5150Hi! I’m sorry..I’m not her (or him), but I’m fairly certain this person fasted on the day of, too, due to not wanting to awaken the normal cells just when the chemo would be first introduced. Fasting as I’ve always read and heard is done pre, during, and post for a day - or less, as this gentleman did. Good luck!
I too have been fasting b4 chemo infusions. 36 hours before the 1st, and now 48 hours before 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Side effects have been minimal. I was even able to negotiate the removal of all steroids. Amazing results!
It is great you are so involved in your treatment- even negotiating cutting out the steroids! 👍👍 Of course the steroids were the only part of the treatment I enjoyed. 😁 Glad to hear that you had the same good results with pre-infusion fasting. Good luck with the rest of your treatment.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. Hopefully the Mayo clinic study will result in the education of doctors about the benefits of fasting because at this time, most are totally clueless.

This makes sense. There are studies and trials being on keto during chemo infusion period gives really good results. Well keto is kind of fasting mimicking diet. After that procedure it's important to give the body enough protein to rebuild.
I forgot to add that Dr. Longao says that in their research they found that 3 days of fasting before chemo and one day after were the most effective at maximizing the treatment and reducing symptoms. Most people don’t think they can fast 3 days, so I really like your approach and think it will be helpful to people undergoing chemo. You should also check out Dr. Goldhamer, who does long term fasting for all kinds of health benefits.
I imagine fasting for longer would give even better results- I wonder how much improvement for each additional day? And I will check out those doctors. Thanks!
Came here for practical suggestion & Team Spiritual support now before Day #2 of Chemo. If it is true that in order to keep it, one must give it away~. Strong Hunch: you are one Rich Man Parris!
Read a comment by a Folfox chemo recipient who said that fasting 8 hours before his chemo, continuing the fast for 3 days then ending 8 hours later saved him from nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea without the use of drugs. Avoiding these side effects mirror what you are saying . . . hard to have stomach problems if your stomach is empty and there is no way to vomit or have diarrhea from anything.
Thank you so much for sharing this info. Sorry for the stupid question, but would it be possible to tell me if this 40 hours fasting includes only water and teas or also some light food eg rusks? Also, how about coffee?
Cancer cells divide 200 times faster than normal body cells and they are hungry. Glucose is what they require. Cut out all sugars and carbs instead of fasting. Keto diet. I did nothing for my first two infusions of Docetaxel and had some bad days after the first infusion. The second was not as bad. Then I cut sugars to expose the cancer cells and shut down my body cells for the third chemo. However, I take Dexamethodone for three days, twice a day, starting the morning of the day before chemo. This has to be taken with food so I do have to eat. I still get side effects though but for the first time I have had tumour reduction and the metastatic are stable. This is my fourth different chemo that had no effect on my cancer and I also had a month of radiation five days a week. Due for another CT next week and hoping there has been further progress.
I totally agree. I fasted 24 hours before being given the "Red Devil". I fasted the day of and day after my first infusion. I had minor side effects and don't feel as bad as I thought I would. I also loosely have been using SCOT inhibitors.
I had to look up what "Red Devil" chemo was- sounds like it usually has pretty strong side effects. Glad to hear you were able to keep those to a minimum. 👍👍
Did the cancer go away? How many more treatments did you have to get? I have to use the red devil too and I am nervous. I will definitely fast before and after.
On FULFIRI I would start to fast about 18 hours before and instead of 3 to 5 day to recover it would be 3 to 5 hours. But I would continue to fast as long as I could which was usually around 72 hours since I had the baxter bottle, plus the majority of the treatment from the hospital has left your system after 48 to 72 hours. But now I am on FOLFOX and it is infused with large amounts of glucose so fasting is pointless before, but I will fast for the next 48 hours afterwards.
@@parristx and @aaronr9977 Praying for your quick and healthy recovery. My mother is also on FOLFOX chemotherapy. Done with 6 cycles. She had a Pancreatic Whipple surgery. So can you please advise on how she can fast from your experience. Because she has to stay at hospital for 3 whole days for the chemo infusion. So, before infusion can she fast and does she has to fast during chemo infusion also and after infusion how many days does she have to fast.? Recently her hemoglobin levels dropped so is it ok for her to fast.? Please advise on what measures can she take during her chemo sessions for fasting in order to maintain healthy lifestyle. Thank you very much in advance. God bless you both with good health.
Eating potatoes during the months on chemo sadly put me off them. I have read that can happen- some books recommend not eating your favorite foods while having chemo because you might end up disliking them. 😢 But now that chemo and radiation treatments are done I am back to eating one or two sweet potato a day (I used to eat 4 or 5!)
Unfortunately I learned about fasting and chemo after I was done. Days 3 to 5 was my bad days and I would lose focus physically and mentally. No fun but I tuft through it. That was 2017 and I don’t know if my brain will ever recover.
Hey Elisabeth! If they decide you should have chemo they will only proceed if they think your body can handle it- so don't be too panicked. And they are used to helping chemo patients deal with the side effects so they will be on your side and will work hard to reduce any unpleasantness. Your doctor should go over with you all the possible side effects from chemo. Also- different types of chemo drugs can have different side effects. My biggest worry was that I would be nauseous all the time- but I actually experienced very little of that. My most worrisome side effect was that my white blood cell count went to zero. But they gave me Neulasta and it boosted right back up. My most bothersome side effects were the muscle and joint pain and being exhausted all the time. Chemo really does wear a person down. But then it is done and it becomes a distant memory. So stay strong and know that you are doing the best thing for your long-term health. 💪💪
For those of us doing IPT or low dose chemo. Fasting beforehand seems like good advice. But we are instructed to eat at the moment of infusion, to help feed the chemo drugs to the cancer cells.
I think there are probably several factors to consider including where on the body you are having the radiation, time of day of the radiation treatments and what kind of foods you usually eat. If you tell your radiation oncologist you would like to try to reduce the treatment side effects by fasting they might be able to guide you in that. Hope they can help you with some good suggestions.
That's good to hear! It would have been hard to do 72 hours of fasting but if that cut out the side effects I think I would have stuck it out for the longer period of time.
You will have to talk to your doctor to get an answer to that question. But I don't think that being diabetic automatically excludes everyone from fasting.
Good question! As alcohol has calories drinking it does seem to break a fast. They explain it briefly in this article- www.healthline.com/nutrition/intermittent-fasting-and-alcohol#recommendation Unless you mean water/unsweetened tea/coffee/etc... you can have any of those without breaking a fast.
I didn't have any pills to take. They put some things in my IV before they started the chemo flowing each time but because there was no "prep" I was able to do the fasting.
Good question. I just have experience with what worked for me and my three-week infusion cycle. There are likely a number of chemo regimes that aren't compatible. Always best to ask the doctor.
The most serious side effect I experienced was my white blood cell count going to zero. I was given Neulasta after each infusion to counteract that. I also developed moderate anemia (low red blood cell count). There were lots of joint and muscle aches. My sense of taste changed and I couldn't bear to eat certain foods anymore. And I lost most of the hair on my head. If you really want to know about the whole experience as I was going through it I recommend my compilation video "My 18 Weeks Of Chemo"- ruclips.net/video/_0HG-Us0Wrg/видео.html
My god!! What people have to suffer....endlessly....i. our, sort life. 80. 90? Unbelievable...and then their are some. With every day Christmas....not fair
I don’t know about this idea. For someone who’s appetite has decreased and may not be getting enough nutrition to begin with, the thought of fasting for a day or longer could weaken someone even further.
I am sure it is not for everyone. But for those who wouldn't be harmed by fasting quite a few people have reported that it helped with their chemo side-effects.
Fasting never helped. Where I had chemo, we always had soup and all kinds of sandwiches and snacks. I had infusion with taxotere myself, with two others drugs. Hope you do well.
Thanks Patricia! Not everybody's body works the same. I saw people at my chemo center getting deliveries of Jimmy John's during their infusions. That seemed pretty wild to me but I won't say I wasn't salivating when the smell of the sandwich wafted my way. 😁 Hope your health is doing well.
I imagine fasting complicates blood sugar control. I am not at all knowledgeable about that but I don't know that having diabetes precludes fasting. Great thing to talk to a doctor about.
@@parristx if your type 1 I’d say differently no. Type 2 you can . But definitely look into this for yourself. Keeping a eye on your blood sugar is key!

You are an amazing Teacher!!You deliver the massage perfectly. Thank you.!!
Thank you George!
This makes sense. There are studies and trials being on keto during chemo infusion period gives really good results. Well keto is kind of fasting mimicking diet. After that procedure it's important to give the body enough protein to rebuild.
Thank you for keeping us updated ♥
Strong Hunch:
you are one Rich Man Parris!
Thanks! And hang in there! 💪💪
Thank you for this video I’ll work at this as I have my Chemo #3 in three days
I love how your shirt looks like cells 🤭
Thanks! I bought it online thinking it looked like soap bubbles but a number of people see cells when they look at it.
Thanks for shearing, hope you’re doing better.
Great video. Thank you. I’ve shared you with someone on FB who is about to undergo chemo.
Thanks Anne! I hope your friend is getting through it okay.
I just did the same thing for my Friend Kurt.
Thank you❤! I’m trying now!
Which SCOT inhibitors?? Is it green tea? And did you not eat anything on the day of your treatment? Thanks in advance 🙏
What is Scott inhibitors 😊
Fasting reduces blood sugar and glutamine levels - the key compounds for cancer growth.
Wow I appreciate this. It makes so much sense
Thanks Sarah!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope to see more update. 🙏
Sounds like you had great results!
Thank you for this information
I am starting Chemo on Monday, 9/25/23. I plan on fasting!! Did you do any bone broth during your fast or just water?
Good luck with the chemo. 💪💪. And I just had tea and water.
Thank you for that 🙏🏼
Curious if you have changed your diet in general? Are you sticking to high amounts of potatoes, or have you changed things up?
Eating potatoes during the months on chemo sadly put me off them. I have read that can happen- some books recommend not eating your favorite foods while having chemo because you might end up disliking them. 😢 But now that chemo and radiation treatments are done I am back to eating one or two sweet potato a day (I used to eat 4 or 5!)
Thank you for the information 🙏
Did you fast on the day of your infusion??
Unfortunately I learned about fasting and chemo after I was done. Days 3 to 5 was my bad days and I would lose focus physically and mentally. No fun but I tuft through it. That was 2017 and I don’t know if my brain will ever recover.
Cool video tech talk lol yes ok yep oh parris
Thanks Scotty.
@@parristx your welcome
Can i do fasting before taking cupsule for chemo?
I ate like a caterpillar because i felt hungry all the time.I felt a HEAT in my stomach and my head.
I’m facing chemo. What is a really bad effect? How does it affect one? Very scared!
@@parristx thank you!
Great video
Thanks Manraj!
Makes sense!
Thank you!❤❤❤
For those of us doing IPT or low dose chemo. Fasting beforehand seems like good advice. But we are instructed to eat at the moment of infusion, to help feed the chemo drugs to the cancer cells.
That is a different way of doing things so I am not sure how fasting would fit into that treatment. Always best to ask your doctor.
I just eat my regular meal so in my first chemo i don’t feel anything…upand my nurse told me,yeah,so you have energy after the chemo.
It is good to keep your energy up. Wishing you good luck in your treatments!
what kind of fasting regimen would you recommend for a daily radiation treatment, lasting for 6 weeks? thank you :)
Some who do longer fasts have no side effects
That's good to hear! It would have been hard to do 72 hours of fasting but if that cut out the side effects I think I would have stuck it out for the longer period of time.
Wish I could do that. But I’m a diabetic. Can I still do that?I too will be in Taxzotire.
You will have to talk to your doctor to get an answer to that question. But I don't think that being diabetic automatically excludes everyone from fasting.
Thank you for the info
Can i still drink while fasting
Good question! As alcohol has calories drinking it does seem to break a fast. They explain it briefly in this article- www.healthline.com/nutrition/intermittent-fasting-and-alcohol#recommendation
Unless you mean water/unsweetened tea/coffee/etc... you can have any of those without breaking a fast.
Only water, nothing with calories.
don't you have to take pills with meals before the infusions, ... how do you deal with it, do you just take them with water
I didn't have any pills to take. They put some things in my IV before they started the chemo flowing each time but because there was no "prep" I was able to do the fasting.
thanks for reply @@parristx
But what do you do if you have to do chemo every day?
Good question. I just have experience with what worked for me and my three-week infusion cycle. There are likely a number of chemo regimes that aren't compatible. Always best to ask the doctor.
Sir what's you're side effects for docetaxel?
The most serious side effect I experienced was my white blood cell count going to zero. I was given Neulasta after each infusion to counteract that. I also developed moderate anemia (low red blood cell count). There were lots of joint and muscle aches. My sense of taste changed and I couldn't bear to eat certain foods anymore. And I lost most of the hair on my head. If you really want to know about the whole experience as I was going through it I recommend my compilation video "My 18 Weeks Of Chemo"- ruclips.net/video/_0HG-Us0Wrg/видео.html
Ok sir thanks you how many rounds of chemo did u experience those side effects?
Most fast another day after
Yup and it makes a big difference.
I agree with this
I don’t know if you are coffee drinker? But do you not drink caffeinated drinks?
Never learned to like the taste of coffee but I enjoy all kinds of tea.
My god!! What people have to suffer....endlessly....i. our, sort life. 80. 90? Unbelievable...and then their are some. With every day Christmas....not fair
Can you drink electrolytes
YES and you should!
Then you should absolutely not do it.
But for someone else, it may be just the ticket.
Do more reading in this 👍
Fasting never helped.
You need to look if your chemo is in a saline solution or glucose solution. If it is in glucose than fasting before hand is pointless.
There’s enough proof it works
♥️🙏
WHAT IF YOU HAVE 4 DAYS CHEMO?
Fasting may not be feasible with all chemo infusion schedules. Always best to see what your doctor thinks.
What if you're Diabetic? Can't fast that long!
Aren't you supposed to take the steroid with food?
My steroids were given in the IV so I don't think it mattered if I had eaten. If you are taking them in pill form then it might be different.
@@parristx Apparently it's to avoid upset stomach. I took the chance, and took it with extra water. I only managed to fast about 24 hours beforehand and six hours after, but my side effects do seem a bit milder. Thanks for the tips!
@@lasurfette7830 Glad to hear that you found a way that works for you. 👍👍
Nice if you can do it 40 hours no food. I think I'll be more weak and sick no food for 40 hours. Im already so sick and no food in 40 hours?..hmmmm
I’ve done a couple fasts…you’ll get tons of energy, promise.
Fasting doesn’t help your blood levels
