Arkanoid (1987) strongly resembles the arcade game Breakout (1976). In Arkanoid, the paddle is actually a spaceship, and the bricks are space walls. The goal of the game is to break through the space walls and defeat the villainous Doh in order to escape from the space labyrinth.
Chef Stef ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/C... ) improves the previous TAS ( tasvideos.org/961M ) by 1 minute and 15.62 seconds, thanks to much better optimisation in many stages. Please read the author's comments ( tasvideos.org/6347S ) for more details.

It is very impressive that the author managed to brute force all the stages
He always wanted to brute force one, and Arkanoid was his game of choice since with a few heuristic assumptions the game becomes solvable in a human lifetime.
I've watched a lot of these tas videos but I feel like this is the most impressive one I've ever seen. most games are, "get to the end/kill the boss" but this game seems like it has countless outcomes which must have taken tons of analyzing. well done.
Read the technical details, it's mindblowing. They took the game apart, made their own perfect emulator of game physics, added heuristics to cut down the cosmic number of game states to be manageable, and then had a computer calculate all possible inputs and pick the optimal one.
I had the TAS channel streaming on twitch when I saw this one. “How did they do that?” I asked myself. Being curious is a great way to discover mind-blowing work. Thanks to musashi gundoh for directing me towards knowledge. This TAS is brilliant.
TAS+Arkanoid, the true definition of "When human skills are just not enough" XD

Super wideo and game. I very like Arkanoid style games. Thanks for the great work and sharing. Warm greetings, Arturo
I never knew there was a final boss stage in this, this game was super fun but was surprisingly hard AF
this is the future of TAS
Having a ball with this TAS!
Imagine waiting for A YEAR of computation to make a video of 11 minute and 11 sec. What a madness.
"What if we used 100% of our brain?"
This.
This run literally is using 100% of a brain in the dumbest way possible and it worked.
I remember this game having its own dedicated Arcade paddle included with the game, I suppose to make it easier to play. That's not to say it was an easy game to play right off the bat, but my goodness did this game get a decent thrashing. It's more fun to watch every level get trounced instead of just manipulating warp pellets all day.
This level of perfection is something my mother always beat my ass to be
Great job
Man that ending theme after defeating DOH! still give me chills, back when the maoi heads were villains in video games and man I still love those things in real life and in the games, they're so cool along with the pyramids and Stonehenge
Босс в арканойде) Вот это нежданчик) Впервые такое вижу)
This used to be my mom's favorite game! She played it for hours!
Dude Arkanoid has more lore than my whole life
С нетерпением жду прохождение Zuma and Zuma revenge - это будет великолепно!
People talk about how TAS is cheating. Man, this still looks hard as heck to pull off
They only call it "Cheating" because it's breaking every convention as to how a game should be played. The work that is done is clearly researched heavily and planned out accordingly either by a single user or the efforts of two or more users, and they really go out of their way to pull off amazing feats. I've been watching videos like this for years, especially when I discovered the original site and before RUclips was a viable means to upload such content. Let those people call it whatever they want, I see this as entertaining and impressive work.
I just think that some people want to discredit TAS as something of a fraudulent method of gaming, not saying that is what you're doing though. I glanced over the author's notes for this video, and there is a lot of technical data regarding the game and that's what I find rather impressive.
tassers(?) are amazing and have unrivaled knowledge of the game they are playing so they can push it to the limit and it looks beautiful
This particular TAS can't be considered "cheating" as it's *entirely* machine-generated - at no point does a human control the paddle.
TAS is made for entertainment purposes nothing else
TAS literally cannot cheat, no matter what. RTA can cheat, but TAS must be a FILE of INPUTS and NOTHING ELSE. It must playback on another device. It literally cannot cheat.
Ah man I hate it when time starts flowing reversly
Man this line alleyway on steroids good run wow great playing this game is not easy
This is unreal!!!
Just imagine the frustration of having to reload save states every level trying to get the multi ball item asap.
MEGA satisfying
the final boss 🗿
I wish I could juggle like that
so satisfying
Looks like the power up is linked to the frame number? Getting the x3 split every time. :)
2 frames remaining till 11:11.11!
Finally! After over 10 years of obsoleting the old run by over 1 minute!
amazin work...
didn't even know there was a final fight to this game
What was the final boss last words ?!!

Can l find the switch button for arcanoid?what is the name of this arkanoid you play with 36 rounds?
Holy.
Have you notice the backgrounds are 3D if you do the stare eye trick
Why i only see the triple ball bar? Where are the others?
How do you know if this TAS is perfect?
My eyes enjoyed it more than my ears
10:58 doh round at round 36
Doh getting hit reminds me of the music from the Metroid 2 title screen.
Arkanoid Return look interesting for do with tas.
Vaus is paddle spaceship which you control it.
Arkanoid DS, paddle spaceship still name Vaus. Story is different from Arkanoid, Revenge of Doh and Arkanoid Return. Arkanoid DS story has main characters as alien save their friends from kidnapped by Doh (I guess.) which shape like them, I guess. If I remember. Story mode has save all friends, and story mode after save all friends too. Arkanoid DS, block shape turn to square instead rectangle and some classic sound effect still on this game too.
TAS is not cheating. Everything is performed under the rules of the game. It's only heavily optimized gameplay
Whah the game over is creepy
"Lasers are the best power-up in Arkanoid."
Triple: "Hold my beer--actually, never mind. I can do this AND hold my beer."
Also, let's make the end guy die after only a handful of hits :P
How did the game only drop the three ball tokens?
I understand that this is tool assisted, but why does it only drop the triple ball pill? What about all the other ones that I remember? And why do no other pills fall afterwards?
Which pills fall is based on a random number generator, but the random number generator isn't really *random*, it's just *hard to predict*. It's still based completely on your actions in the game via a mathematical formula. The triple ball pill is the best for going really fast (because you can break more blocks faster), so the player makes sure to only take sequences of actions that lead to the multiball.
in 6:48 the lower block was not destroyed, why ?
i don’t get what you mean, please translate
Hitbox, I believe...
Ah, so the goal is to destroy all the regular blocks, not necessarily all the blocks including the metal ones..? Or is it different for each stage? Never played Arkanoid.
Only variation of Arkanoid I've played was Blasterball 2 when Wild Tangent games was a thing.
You need to destroy all except the gold blocks or go through an exit after grabbing the Break capsule to beat each stage. Silver blocks take more than one hit to destroy and never drop capsules. All other blocks take one hit and sometimes drop capsules that when grabbed enhance the Vaus. I was surprised only the Divide capsule kept being dropped, but I’m sure that’s sometime to do with either never losing a ball or RNG manipulation:
My childhood
why is there only one power up i see (only the 3balls). i played this game and there are many power ups like magnets, slow, long etc..
Because the multiball is the best powerup if you're playing for speed.
read the author comments in the description,
This is project management.
Should it be clarified that this is the Arcade version?
How do you even *route* this?
By making a few heuristic assumptions, simulating instead of emulating the game state, and let a bot brute force the rest.
Terrifyingly therapeutic somehow
I always wished for an Arkanoid/Alleyway hybrid
Multi-ball was the answer all along =)
10:03 i see your a man of culture 😂
wdym? thats just the rgb formation?
A lot of effort must’ve been put into this one holy heck
Yes, it is. The author of this TAS spent around a year for this project, which is really incredible.
This games difficulty is up there with battletoads and gng. I never made it past lvl 3 or 4.
Did your eyes still OKAY after you ended this game???
why the game only drops blue food !!
My headphones corrupts a lot while watching this :/
10:04 get out of my head AAAAAAA
always 3 ball?
I ever beaten Arkanoid on both Arcade and NES and recorded a score of 1984550pts.
Underated hardest games of all time...no 1 one knows about this game... how hard is to beat the 1st 3 lvls...
I had no idea this game has any plot in it.
99x harder than alleyway. Only took me 3 stages there lol
11:11.18
Pish, I could finish Round 1 below that.
Just Round 1 though.
Buying this game for your kids in the 80s was a cruel and unusual punishment

10:05 NO FUCKING WAY
Not a human playing
Always the light blue power up, suspicious
I noticed that the only capsule he got was the triple ball capsule I wonder why that was
@Zach what does RNG stand for?
@@michaelsegal3558 late, but If i remember correctly it's Random Number Generator
@@shigushigu741 yeah but I’m wondering if he rigged the game somehow so he would only get the triple ball capsule
@@michaelsegal3558 It's RNG manipulation, not rigging. You could probably find a better explanation but essentially:
The bot is doing the same things on the same frames in the same order to guarantee the same result, which is what it does on each level to get the triple ball (from my understanding)
