    As a short person (5' 1"), the magazine holders used in the blue pantry (with shoes) kinda makes sense. Things can get lost on the top shelf very easily, so having the magazine holder to slide out keeps easy access to all the cans. However... being that they're stacked the way they are, you could end up with a concussion if a can falls off while being pulled out. I personally keep cans around eye level, and I put the box-y types of things on the top shelf in bins (like crackers in one bin, noodles in another box). That way, if something topples over whilst I'm grabbing the box, it doesn't kill me.

    • @anniebanana3698
      @anniebanana3698 3 года назад +7

      Yes to eye level for the cans if you were to use that method. That's exactly what I was thinking. Although it could be partly because at my work, people always used to get in trouble for having heavy stuff on high shelves when the health and safety crew came by to inspect so maybe it's just ingrained into my subconscious to notice that right away.

    I do put milk in the fridge’s door... but that’s because, given the family’s composition, we go through a little more than one litre a day - and only opened cartons go in the fridge, the stock can be stored at ambiant temperature. It sometimes happens that milk stays 48h in the fridge, but by accident, and never more than two days - so in the door it stays for easy access.

    the stakking items, like cans - not using with an extra bin - you are so right with those. as my kithen is small and I don't have an extra pantry, for a while, I had themm all in a rather bigger pin, because they were stored at a higher rack and I couldn't get there easily. so I used the pin to take them all down at once. take out, what I need, and put it bag. without using a stoo. but that was havy, I must say. now that my kitchen has been renovated, I have found better solutions. and no bin needed - thank God (a rather narrow pharmacy cabinet was the best solution for me.)

I'm short and my kitchen cabinets are weirdly high up, so I just slide the box out of the cabinet and set it on the counter, and then put it back when I'm done! You refrigerate eggs from the grocery store because the normal protective layer that eggs have was washed away. If you have "fresh from the hen house" eggs, you can keep them on the counter for several days - if you don't wash them. The Dollar Tree magazine rack works if you lay the cans on their side (so they roll toward you).

    I have my cans in bins, but each bin is labeled: veg; meat, beans; pasta; sauces etc. The cans lay on their sides and not stacked due to the height of my selves. I did this during the pandemic when my adult kids were all back home so they could find things easily. As things got used, they added the item to my grocery list on the fridge. Not sure if I will continue when the last of them moves out next year, but it worked when there were a lot of "cooks" in the kitchen. I also use turn tables in the L corner of my cabinets and put extra jars on them as it is a hard to access otherwise.

    Met someone who got those hanging things at their closet for prepping her outfits for the week. It's a pretty good use for it though they don't get saggy.

    I feel like for the shoe organiser thing, it would be way better to get a shelf riser if you have the space to stack the pairs on top of each other like that.

    Another shout out for the public service announcement on OCD! If you are someone who needs this type of stringent order to feel calm and in control, you might look into OCPD, as it much more closely aligns as a symptom for this disorder. However, for the vast majority of people, liking things to be extremely organized is not a disorder and to refer to it as such really minimizes what people who actually have OCD or OCPD struggle with.

    I’m guessing the woman with the shoes in her pantry probably lived in a space without a real pantry and has repurposed the coat closet. That’s my guess.

    Glad you clarified OCD is a disorder and is not just being organized.
