How did your approach to improving your personal finance change when you joined the military?
additionally, what condition was your credit in before you join?
to my understanding, certain jobs and certain parameters require a credit check or at the very least, a general lack of delinquency.
(i also have outstanding Student loan debt ;< thank u in advance)

@@nicko9365 They pull your credit report at MEPS if you're going for a job that requires a secret clearance or higher. You can't have more than $5,000 in NEGATIVE debt (student loans, cars, houses don't count towards that number). Bad debt like credit cards, collections, etc will potentially prevent you from joining if you have a lot of it.

This is tough. Go on Facebook and look for a “temporary home” for each one. Only because one person isn’t willing to foster all 3 dogs unless they do then great. But have some type of agreement, you are enlisting and will be in training for a few months. Maybe you could even pay the person monthly for doing such a favor then have them ship them to you. Reminder, if you are not married you will HAVE to stay in the barracks so no pets and all of that would have been for nothing, unless you go the officer route.

I'm a 14 year Army Veteran Iraq / Kuwait vet.
After the first Gulf War Bush Clinton downsized the Army by 500,000 .
I started researching Federal Jobs while I was at Ft Campbell KY. I got out in 92 and was hired for a Federal Law Enforcement agency. Worked for 20 years and retired.
Presently 45 PERCENT of Military Families depend on FOOD BANKS TO FEED THEIR Families. That is a disgrace. Do your time research on getting a Federal Job and get 20 years in . Once you retire your health insurance is permanent.

I heard an E-7 on the phone applying for Food Stamps (though they now use another name). That E-7 was taking home over $7K a month. Because a lot of his take home was not "earnings" (but tax-free allowances for food and housing), it gave the appearance of "earnings" being a lot less than they really were, hence the food stamps.
