DESCRIPTION:
Kirtan Kriya also known as the Sa Ta Na Ma meditation, is one of the most important meditations in Kundalini Yoga.
Amongst the first techniques given by Yogi Bhajan when he arrived in the USA, it remains a foundation meditation for every Kundalini Yoga student.
This powerful meditation is a combination of vibrating a mantra, moving the hands through mudra’s and using a specific visualization.
Mantra means “an often repeated word or phrase” and mudra means “a motion of the hands” or “a dance of the hands.”
MANTRAS
Mantras have the capacity to clear and restructure the subconscious mind that makes most of our psyche.
Each specific mantra also has a specific resonance, frequency and effect on the 3 minds, subconscious, conscious and supra-conscious.
SA TA NA MA and SAT NAM MANTRAS
The Sa Ta Na Ma meditation is composed of 5 sounds made of S, T, N, M and A.
These 5 primal sounds are the parts composing the Mantra SAT NAM.
Sa is the beginning, infinity, the totality of everything that ever was, is or will be.
Ta is life, existence and the creativity that manifests from Sa (infinity, totality).
Na is death, decomposition, change, transformation.
Ma is rebirth, regeneration, resurrection to Sa (infinity, totality).
MUDRAS
Finger extremities possess many nervous endings connected to the different parts of the brain.
Each finger is nervously connected to a specific brain area and the stimulation of a specific finger will stimulate its correspondent part in the brain.
VISUALIZATION
When you meditate with eyes closed, focus your eyes on your third eye (6th chakra), right between your eyebrows.
Visualize a constant inflow of cosmic energy coming into your body through your crown chakra and moving down and out through the third eye. The energy will make an “L” shape and stimulate the pineal and pituitary glands in your brain.
This helps with the cleansing of thoughts and reduction of headaches.
It is important and must be done with each sound as it is an essential part of the cleansing process. The L visualization is said to connect and awaken the pineal and pituitary glands, our primary hormone producing centers in the body. When the pineal gland is dormant the mind goes out of balance and feelings of emotional imbalance occur .
TIMING
Begin the kriya by tuning in with the mantra Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo chanted 3 times.
During this 31 minute meditation demonstrated here, the first 5 minutes of the mantra is chanted aloud, followed by 5 minutes of whispering, followed by 10 minutes of chanting mentally / silently.
Then followed by 5 minutes of whisper again followed by the last 5 minutes of chanting aloud.
Finish with 1 minute of silent meditation at the end to make 31 minutes.
We end the practice with a chanted prayer, hands in Prayer Pose:
May the Long Time Sun Shine Upon You,
All Love Surround You and The Pure Light Within You,
Guide Your Way On, Guide your Way On, Guide your way On,
followed by chanting 3 times the mantra SAT NAM before bowing down and offering this energy back to the Source.
Yogi Bhajan has said that during this stressful time it should be done for at least 11 minutes every day.
EFFECTS
The left brain control the right hand and the right brain control the left hand. The action of the hands affect the brain side they are related to.
Sa Ta Na Ma meditation stimulates the nerve endings in the fingertips thus stimulating and balancing the right and left hemispheres of the brain.
Through the mudra's action reinforced by the mantra, that's all the parts of the psyche that are energized and balanced.
This positively changes your habits and works through insecurities.
BENEFITS
Helps to break negative habits and addictions.
Creates emotional balance.
Improves cognitive functions.
Eliminates the feeling of brain fog.
Stimulate and balance the pituitary and pineal glands in the brain.
Increases intuitive and psychic abilities.
Bestow peace and tranquillity.
Gives an awareness of one's Divine nature.
Especially helpful for balancing a woman's cycle.
Particularly helpful in releasing the pain stored in our aura, the place we hold love relationship wounds.
CONCLUSION
Yogi Bhajan says that if you can do only one meditation, this is it. It does everything for you in the order that you need. It is your teacher. And as you practice it, you will come to realize that it is your best friend. Whatever you need at the moment, it will readjust and align you to bring balance into your mind and thus your life.

The assaults are on humanity at large, not only on Kundalini Yoga and its community. That's the tests Yogi Ji (amongst many other Seers) prepared us for. What matter is the opportunity of soul's growth during this lifetime. Tests are good to reveal who we are and who we can become. The legacy of this technology belongs to those who practice it. That was Yogi Ji's life's purpose and he succeeded in his mission. 🙏

Listen to your heart and you will know the truth! When you do practices how does it make you feel? Does your life improve? Or better yet to get the true answer from the universe try doing either this practice Sa Ta Na Ma or sing the moola mantra by snatam kaur ( there’s an hour and ten min version on RUclips). Before practice ask the question you want to know the answer to in your mind set it as intention, then do the practice, turn off your mind, focus on your third eye and your heart, you can even put your hand on your heart as you practice. Do you get dizzy halfway through = during the silent repetition of the mantra? During the silent repetition, you just breathe naturally.
If you are not used to the visualisation, focus to the 3rd eye, you could get dizzy then.
Like with everything, we should start gently and progress gradually. 🙏

I feel really blessed and its not easy but when I feel sad or tired I listen to prayers and hope that one day I'll visit Gurudwara. Here in Iceland there is no Sikhi so im listening to Hukam. Thank you for this beautiful meditation. I am not much into meditation, but do indulge myself into such kriyas once or twice a week. Sometimes, I am not able to concentrate because my legs start feeling numb and my mind starts wandering. Is it fine to stop in between.

What you can try is to keep the meditation up to the end but change your posture when it becomes uncomfortable. Stretch one leg, then the other, or come to sit on your heel for a while, back to easy pose, and so on while keeping the mudra / concentration going. That is moving your posture with lots of awareness without loosing track of the various focuses (visualisation, mudra, mantra).
@@sirishabadsingh thank you for your guidance 🙏...I have one more question. I have migraine. Do this kriya helps in the natural treatment of migraine. Because I have tried many things, inspite of following a decent lifestyle, it sometimes gets triggered and nothing but only a medicine helps then. In fact, at times, even meditation makes it worse.
@@sukhneetnagi Yes it could help or make it worst if the base on which you build it up has recurring issue.
Are you KY student?
Migraine has to be dealt first and it goes beyond the scope of my expertise to really help you with that from RUclips. I would suggest to find a holistic health practitioner in your area and to address the roots of it as medicine (drugs?) will only be a patch to hide the issue.

Migraine could have various causes, physique, mental, emotional that's why I suggest to find an holistic health practitioner who can help you evaluate the root cause by looking at these different layers that compose our being. Depending on the country you live, you will have different choices. But the important word here is "Holistic".
Hey man, I really have been struggling with all the bad allegations against Bhajan, wondering if you have any thoughts on the matter. I agree with you on all your views of the evils of the modern world (conspiracies)... The more I look into the Bhajan case the more I consider stopping his form of Yoga. I haven't heard many arguments defending the man or discrediting his accusers I thought maybe you could shed some light. Thanks.

I can only speak from my own experience.
All I can say is he destroyed the miserable life I had when I was 28 and supported my rebirth with love and respect into a blessed one for which I’m everyday grateful.
Although I had been introduced to his private environment at times, I never witnessed any of what I read online. Does that mean I know every corners of his private life, certainly not.
We are human, that is a beast with the divine light of consciousness in it.
How much we master this beast and divine light is everyone’s challenge and karma.
It is now the norm to become a knower and a judge with solid convictions based on social medias contact.
We live an Epoch of free will and we bear the responsibility of our choices.
It’s all part of our soul progress.
Yogi Bhajan said one day: “If you see a good thing in someone, make it yours. If you see a bad thing, thanks the Creation you are not the same.”
We are asked to take part of a game where we should become either for or against.
Our free will allows us to enter it or not.
The light we are asking for will come from inside once the house cleaning work begins to show progress. It’s a path requiring patience and commitment. Not an easy one.
Kundalini Yoga is supported by a Golden Chain of dis-incarnated masters. They choose and test their disciples. This path is maybe for us now or for a future incarnation or not at all. Our heart and intuition will always guide us toward the most appropriate choice according to our destiny.

@@sirishabadsingh Thank you. It's very interesting predicament for a practitioner of KY to be confronted with. I'm new to the practice but not not new to spiritual sadhana. Everything is Guru in my opinion. When we are confronted with these difficulties we are being asked to find our way through them. I don't know what the future will hold for my sadhana whether KY will continue to be apart of it or I will resort back to a more traditional vedic sadhana. Like you say all l can do is to keep putting that quality energy out for finding the guidance I need. And also continue to smile with satisfaction into that infinite being within that is my true Self.

I’ve measure the correct timings and it’s an exact 10 minutes & 20 seconds for each stage of the singing, whispering, silently vibrating the mantra .. (only the silent shall need to be 20 minutes & 40 seconds) ..
the one I’ve been practicing so far has been with Dev Suroop Kaur .. her version (available on RUclips) doesn’t follow this Order ..
therefore I shall be grateful for a Sri Sabd Singh recorded version following this formulaic delivery 🤍🙏🏼🌀✨🌈🦋💗
