We have used Gopro cameras for many years so were pretty gutted when we bought a Hero 7 Black and found the sound quality was terrible. Using the camera out of the box the wind noise was that bad it made the footage unusable so we thought we share the best solution we have found so far with you.
I would have preferred the no music mode

Hey thanks for the detailed research into this. Im gonna try protune with wind noise only and a cover. As for the MX track, you nearly tempted me to go get a MXer and hit your track after so many years away from the scene. Looks as safe as safe is with the straw bales. Cheers
For mountain biking the sound is even worse! Since we don't have a cool loud engine to record, any wind noise masks everything else. Even with the wind shield its not even close to my old Hero 4 Black. (which I covered each mic with a fuzzy wind blocker)

i found the wind jammer worked great for noise, but it gets really hot where i live in canada in the summer like mid 30s and the camera will overheat and shut down with it on it

Drill out the GoPro case to expose the 3 internal audio mics -- use the foam windscreen -- go to the chest mount -- the sound you want is the engine --- the GoPro on the top of the helmet is the wrong location -- for good sound -- good luck

@@999lazer just so you know it wont be as stable as the head acts a bit like a gimble/stabilizer but yes you should get less wind noise,and it might even look a little faster
shouldn't have to change the mounting position to get better audio. chest mount sucks for MX because you need to set the camera at an angle, set it level and all you see is tank when standing. set it angled up slightly for standing, then all you see is sky when sitting.
best place is on the chin or on top of the helmet
The chin is ok -- new mount for the front of a motorcross helmet -- is OK -- however for ME -- I would mount 2 Bose Resolve Plus Speakers on the Bike -- and have the GoPro mounted behind them -- in the front of the bike -- can I do it? Yes
The chin mount is OK -- if you want to hear the rider talking -- but I rather have the music --

Spot on with GoPro.. They need to address to audio.. I use the sponge wind slayer although I left on auto.. Really need to set to wind only. It has made a big difference. Can’t stand that wind noise. 👍👍👍
I cut back my foam windscreen -- to expose the 3 microphones -- I found it works -- better -- don't remove the foam -- just cut it back to expose the 3 internal mics -- and use the chest mount -- or attach the camera on the front of the bike -- I attach a plastic pipe -- and use a thumb screw -- I am using a 4 hour battery -- good luck

It answered a lot of my questions about wind noise, in a normal, undramatic British accent........God, I'm sick of all the over-exaggerated, over dramatic American accents on RUclips !! ☹️. As the speeds are quite low on your vid, what are your thoughts about wind noise on a side helmet mounted road bike travelling at speeds up to 80mph, do you think the results would be the same ?? @@moto_tech_braap_itout9852 I have been using these for sometime now, I just looked on eBay for a wind slayer. I normally have my gopro set on auto but changed to stereo and found a lot of wind noise which I didn't have before.
Have you gotten your hands on the GoPro 8? You should make another video like this for the 8
what about trying the rode mic with the wind protection? like what people use for vlogging, might look big, but, for the sake of MAKING videos, might be your solution

@@andrewwilliams9419 You can get an adapter, the issue is you have to open the side up, it uses the charging USB C port. The issue here is it will no longer be water proof it he cover is open.

I am using a 5,000 mil amp battery -- that gives me 4 hours -- I mount it on the front of my bike even with the handle bars -- it works great -- I use the foam windscreen --the larger sound of the 4 stroke engine will cancel out any and all wind noise -- good luck
do you have suitcase on while riding?
I'm getting one because of your review here. I'll use it on my Hero 7 Black for touring on my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. I have heard reviews about the 7 overheating and shutting down. Have you experienced any of that with the foam cover on? Have you removed any more of the foam to try and keep it cooler?
Hi there! Thanks for watching. I can't say we've ever experienced or heard of any of those issues. But we are only typically running for a maximum of 40 mins at a time during a race. I guess it might be different if you are recording for hours on a tour...

I have the same terribly choppy wind noise issue. I have simply duct taped the 3 mic holes on the camera. Tape can be removed whenever required. I am going to give it another go and update you. Thanks man

the noise is only a small problem tho , i been riding my ass off but on the new camera it looks all slow , compared to my older gopro 4 silver the hero 7 makes it look awefull

Looked for standard with the cover but didn't see it tested, just protune stereo and wind only modes. Did you test the standard/auto mode with the cover?
I don't exactly like the video either for a few reasons on my 7 White. Center is ugly or mosaic, and need something really up to date/powerful to get the most out of it. But even more so, the trees, flowers etc detail and colors are in fact great, but riding a motorcycle, the actual ground/terrain looks HORRIBLE it does not EVEN do it justice. And don't get me started on the Audio.

How do you control pro tune ? I’m on the go pro app with my hero 7 and it is not showing up in settings for pro tune .... is this a uk only option or what I’m in the states and my go pro app doesn’t give me a pro tune option .
gopro has got to be one of the worst companies of all time. i have the brand new hero9 and the wind noise absolutley ruins videos. i even had dead cats glued to the microphones. Pathetic company has no solution after 9 iterations.

Gaday I am Zac and I am from AUSTRALIA, I recently experienced the same problem withe GoPro Hero 8 Black, peace of junk cost me $500 AUD and it has same wind noise problem, even with the AMAZON wind killer like in your video, it is better but not great, Thanks GoPro for selling great cameras with good picture quality but shit sound, Id expect more for $500 you lousy clowns charging this much and people don't get what they deserve for that price.
They shouldn’t cost $500 retail is like 399?? And calm yourself it’s a great product for cheap! Find another compatible camera plz. Be happy with the option to even own something like thay
