Same here, except when I’m watching a lady like this that’s got mounds of hair…wow! Just seeing how her hair grows down on her forehead, around the sides and even how far down and thick above the back of her neck means I’ll never achieve anything close to what her end results are😢. Maybe that’s where hair extensions would come in, and once again it’s not a simple messy bun, is it?

So the top bit of the pin that sticks out and the rough edge is against your scalp, compared to the straight smooth edge, how does that make sense.
It’s how it holds lol, it’s literally designed that way. Think about it- do smooth to textured things hold better?

nope my hair was just dirty but if you have fine hair it can definitely help
I always put the bobby pins in with the ridged side down. Always liked it that way then years later found out that’s how it’s supposed to go🤣

No. The way to a messy bun is to, not brush with the type of brush you used as it makes hair frizzy, use large wooden comb … that detangles without frizzing the hair. Then you don’t look at the mirror , you just do what feels right in your hands and it will turn out great. This looks like a wannabe prom look.
