I see such a deep and tender wisdom in this design. (And there is a charming mimicry in it of the little origami swan here on my table). It is a delicate palette, like a Moholy Nagy painting. A green yawn opens to the denizens.. Neutral, tight, native. Boldly cleaved by the striking geometric blacks of the recessed shadows, intelligently punctuated by ornate junctions - the way a jeweller might elegantly resolve a clasp. In one instant I see the shapes of John Hejduk's sketchy conceptual works, and in the next the uncanny resemblance of a Chinese landscape painting. How beautiful are the cascading window openings which tumble out of the overflows. The drawings must be exquisite. Makes me wanna cut and paste...
I honestly don't know why these guys aren't huge!! I have watched countless boring architecture videos that have millions of views, but this little gem of a channel is the best-kept secret! SOOOO much information and inspiration - a great tool for any inspiring architect - fun, sexy even (sexy nerd/artists as hosts! who knew!) Thanks and hope you start getting millions of views
@@Archimarathon your content is very thoughtful, topics are good, people just don't want to think about it, they want to look at pretty pictures. You are probably just a bit ahead of your time with the "thoughtful stuff" maybe better as a TV show!
It's that kid of cross pollination with an Italian settling in Australia that makes for great innovative design. Thanks for sharing some pics of the inside.
Brilliant! I´m glad you guys pointed me out to an architect that was completely unknown to me and is such a gem. All those details are superb. I love the detailing of the formwork printed on those walls. I'm looking at his website atm and he is admirable, not only for his work but for his thoughts
I'm from canberra, and its so funny to get stoned and just watch you guys talk about shit being the architecture of places and stuff lmao you guys aren't crazy serious but are, that's why I love it congrats on 10k!

Another great video guys! If I can make a video request, it'd be great to see some content on budget and costing for architecture and residential building - probably the most taboo subject in the industry, but such an important topic for those aspiring to design and build a special home.
One of my favourite Taglietti/Canberra buildings. If you are still about - at least drive by Giralang Primary School and Flynn Primary School (two of his finest schools). They are both close to Latham Primary (which you pictured). A couple of townhouses but him sold recently in Holt, too (more pedestrian, but still have his ‘stamp’) He also designed a wonderful ‘nightclub’ called the James Cook hotel which was demolished in 1980 which was nice - hard to find pictures of, though.
That would have been magic! A couple of years ago the Design Festival here had a focus on Taglietti’s buildings. I’ve loved his style as long as I can remember. Certainly stands out in Canberra
archimarathon briefly introduced this building & architect in the other Canberra video ... after that I listen to his interviews ... he says that *wonder* is what he was after in his buildings ... strong emotional response that he has definitely delivered on ... he left post war Italy bcos he felt that it was too restrictive due to historical "baggage" ... he loved Canberra bcos it was open to the "new" ...since it was just born "to discover new worlds, one must be willing to lose sight of the shore" ... can't remember which mariner said that ...
Have either of you had a client where they basically just tell how many bedrooms they need and then let you create whatever you want? If so, what was the result?
Amazing! It would have been such a great cultural events venue, can’t believe instead they’re chasing people away.. Please do the schools! I’m sure if you show them what you’re doing in advance they would happily let you in!
Mitchell building..she's brutal enough to suit the subject matter.. It's a shame they can't build them for posterity though, everything in this city tends to leak like a sieve.
@@Archimarathon That is a shame. The inside is full of interesting design, detail and colour. A few years ago there was a tour of the building and Enricho was explaining his motives for various decisions.
It’s a beautiful piece of architecture, especially for a brutalist building (and let’s all be honest, a lot of those are sterile concrete monoliths …that have a disturbing tendency to look like Soviet social housing). But best architect ever? Uh…Look, It’s really hard to tell if someone’s a good architect from the exterior of a…storage shed. For the government. … …that was built in the middle of nowhere and they won’t let anyone see inside. =_=…
Love these conversations where you break down a piece of architecture. It really helps students like me understand the design. Good stuff!
Glad it was helpful!
What an amazingly beautiful building. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Stewart
Oh dear. I just noticed the St Kilda Library image got bumped accidentally to the wrong spot. Oh well.
I noticed that description over a shot of you and was a little confused! But I can Google it :)
Yeah it jumped when I put in the cinematic at the start and I missed it.
Taglietti is much loved here in the Berra. I'd love to see you guys explore more of his work.
Yes. That is the intention. It should be a household name.

Thanks. I guess we don’t do the usual format or do topics people are asking for. The algorithm don’t like it and people are not clicking

The detailing - gates, entrance, chimney vents - nicely done !
Totally undervalued

Certainly stands out in Canberra
There is Gowrie Primary School also in Tuggeranong, but it doesn't seem to rate a mention
A cross between FLW and Scarpa….what a building loved the “left over “ dets
Yes it’s pretty special
Hope I would have a chance to visit these brilliant buildings in person
His place in Aranda is one of the finest.
So cool.
Definitely loved the part at 6:45 ish, figuring out stuff. Was great!
That’s Archimarathon. Asking the questions and then finding out is half the fun.
lurv your commentary on filming public buildings, thanks guys!
Is it next to the war memorial museum? I tried to find it on Google maps but couldn't identify it. Thanks for any information about the location.
No it’s the War Memorial Archives in Mitchell

Hard to believe those wooden panels hiding the services have been there for 44 years. Great detail worth emulating.
Hard to believe an industrial building so well considered
@@Archimarathon Italian immigrant architects like Taglietti and Rosselli are a real gift to this country.
Scaled up Dickson Library ;-)

WHAT A SHORT VIDEO?!!! ended so unexpectedly
We didn’t have much footage. We left because of all the harassment

Beautiful
