My brother just can't understand my fascination with ocean liners. My best way of saying is that they have such a marvelous personality and character. Each is unique. I wish some had more pictures and more detailed history that I could find. I wish I could see these ships. I would fan boy so hard.
I just think Oceanic is one of the most beautiful ships even built by Harland and Wolff, her superb interiors and her lovely, sleek appearence made her unique. Great job, I love your videos, great taste with the music, hope you never stop!
Was working on a family genealogy for a friend and discovered his ancestor came to New York on the RMS Oceanic in 1909. Was thrilled to find this video and share it with him:)
My great grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from England in 1911 on this ship! Isn't it so cool to get to know the exact ship people crossed on? And then to get a video like this! So cool!
Wow, that's cool, have you ever had a chance to meet her, or she passed away before you were born, or before you grew up old enough? Just asking, don't get me wrong please.🙂
Finally got around to watching more of your older videos. I absolutely adore Oceanic. She was a beautiful ship inside and out, and an absolute wonder to travel on. It's no wonder she was called the Ship of the Century, and I see her as being like the mother figure towards the Olympic-class, the only ships in White Star's fleet that I say lived up to her. It's a shame she met such a foolish and unnecessary end.
What a lovely ship, perfect proportions and considering she was built within the Victorian era, her interiors were not over furnished with clutter, in fact some areas were beautifully Spartan , very impressed with the video
Thank you! I am very happy for this comments! You can look forward to new videos. For example...I would like to make new video about RMS Majestic ex SS Bismarck, History of WSL and Big Four (Cedric, Adriatic, Baltic and Celtic)
What a beautiful ship believe it or not my second great great uncle actually traveled to America on the Oceanic II which makes it even more special to me
If I was rich and powerful enough to own the White Star Line and bring these lovely ladies back to life as a floating operational museum ships to sail the seas once again! To be loved, respected and enjoyed! ❤️😇😎🙏🤗😍✊👍
I was thinking the exact same thing like you. I'm still at school on the day this comment is posted and I plan to become an architect and my dream is to not only build awesome houses and superstructures, but to invest in business and marketing so I can buy the white star brand from both cunard and carnival's hands so i can build a new class of ships. I planned to rebuild the incomplete RMMV Oceanic (III), MV Georgic (III) and the MV Britannic (IV). Their designs will be monumental with a length of 1200ft so they can be bigger than the Queen Mary 2 and most cruise ships and to accommodate 16 decks but I will not turn these ships into blocks, I will turn them into the classic design of the 1930s because to me, 30s ships were better than today's ships so I will implement it into the new Oceanic class with a few tweaks so they can become iconic than the rest of today's ships which look like blocks. These ships will be glorious and breathtaking and I want to put the white star line company back on the map with awesome ships. This is my dream that I want to fulfill and if my dreams come true and if these ships came to fruition, then remember me.
Interesting that one thinks of the Titanic and even Olympics interior designs as completely unique and original to their class, yet some designs are present on this ship and other older ships of the line. The paneling in the first class lounge and double door designs are the same as on Olympic class, smoking room designs and other features as well. So they seem to be designs featured throughout white star ships, however I feel the balance and refinery of the designs reached their peak on the Olympic class ships
It seemed common practice for White Star to specify that some public rooms on their newest ships would carry over themes from previous vessels, while totally new and different styles were chosen for other areas. The Louis Quinze style library on the "Oceanic" with its distinctive curved bookcase is indeed quite similar in decor to the lounges on the "Big Four" and "Olympic Class" liners. The 1st Class Smoking Room and Reading and Writing Room on "Olympic" and "Titanic" were similar in style to the corresponding spaces on the "Adriatic". However, many of the more innovative 1st Class public spaces (such as the reception room or the deluxe cabins) on the "Olympic Class" vessels were quite original when compared to their forerunners at White Star or competing ships of other lines.
DSGNflorian Titanic and Olympic seemed to be a perfect culmination of all those past designs. As if White Star perfected them for the Olympic class. They were gorgeous ships. Yet Titanic seemed the most perfect looking inside and out. A beautiful superstructure and interior design with the additional improvements made that Olympic didn't have.
Great upload, very exciting to see shots of the superb interiors of the Oceanic, some of which I had never seen before. It seems difficult to find books or other sources that provide a more comprehensive look at the interiors of this fascinating vessel. A "typical" WSL liner in some respects, yet thoroughly unique and almost whimsical in the layout and decor of the 1st Class public rooms. The design of the skylight over the library is particularly intriguing. The glass "tabletop" directly underneath forms the top of the dome in the 1st Class dining saloon below. I wonder if any "Linolite" and "Luxfer" glass technology was applied as in the windows of the 1st Class dining saloon and reception room of the Olympic and Titanic. A very, very beautiful ship, inside and out.
Here’s what I think might’ve happened had the HMS Oceanic survived the cyclone: During wartime, it would be too costly to refloat the Oceanic. She’s used as an arms storage bunker for the remainder of WWI. After the war: It’s determined that the ship is salvageable, and operations are underway by 1919. She’s towed to Harland and Wolff for analysis. The hull is gashed from the grounding, there’s water damage from the flooding and exposure and the bow frame needs replacing. Repairs take 1 year. On August 19, 1920 RMS Oceanic returns to commercial service. The Great Depression: In 1929, the stock market crash happens. The White Star Line loses a lot of money as many of their ships are unprofitable. However, Oceanic is spared as she’s one of the more popular liners. World War II: In 1939, World War II starts. Oceanic is requisitioned into a troop ship, and designated HMT Oceanic. On June 18, 1940 she and the SS Nomadic take part in the evacuation of Cherbourg. After World War II: Oceanic is handed back to Cunard-White Star Line and returns to service again. Oceanic’s last voyage: On September 27, 1967 Oceanic departs for her final voyage from Liverpool to New York. Then, she would undergo a 15 year restoration process, opening as a hotel ship in 1982. A fate worthy of 83 years of existence, 56 years of commercial service and 10 years of war service. In the present day, Oceanic is permanently moored in San Francisco, California.
Gorgeous interiors. Unbelievable. But I was disappointed that many of the photos in the first half of the video were obscured by the writing, especially the ones with the other ships involved in the near collision. Would have been better if the photos could have remained up a bit longer than the descriptions.
Yes, it is, Oceanic in particular was still loved when bigger, more modern ships came along and that's why they tried to hide her loss, with bad results. And I do have my own, odd theory about her bad luck...
Man oh man, what's with the Harland & Wolfe ships? Oceanic - sunk. Titanic - sunk. Brittanic - sunk. Olympic - had accidents. Seems like every ship that was built in that shipyard has some kind of tragic history.
Far more ships built by Harland and Wolfe had successful careers than those who did not. Oceanic and Titanic suffered horrific crashes that would leave almost all modern ships (barring QM2) severely crippled or sunk; Britannic struck a mine designed to sink even the largest of ships, she never had a chance, and the venerable Olympic, dubbed "The Old Reliable" had a fantastic career, serving for 24 years and sinking two enemy submarines during WW1. Liners often had accidents during those days, look at the Cunard Trio or the Imperator Class.
Don't underestimate the human factor. No matter how good is the ship, if she's not managed properly... We all know that happened to the Titanic. The Oceanic sunk during WW1 totally because of human mistakes. David Blair (who was supposed to be the 4th Officer on the Titanic, but latter was dropped off) made a navigational mistake and the ship ran aground on the Shaalds. You know on that time on the ship there were 2 captains, on from the company and a military one, they constantly were giving opposite orders, and for the crew (part of it was Charles Lightoller, the actual 4th Officer on the Titanic, the most senior Officer who survived the Titanic's sinking) it was very hard and confusing to work. And then one day Blair made the navigational mistake, and he took all the blame. Yes, the Britannic struck a mine that was designed to sink ships, but again the human factor contributed a lot. Traveling in a war zone, the ship was supposed to float with closed bulkheads doors, but the doors were opened, the explosion jammed some of them and the doors could not be closed. And when the ship started to list, the many opened portholes (who also were supposed to be closed) decided the fate of the ship. She, designed to be very very hard to sink, sank in less than a hour. The Olympic, yes, she had many accidents. But you have to keep in mind that she was the first of its kind. She was 42% larger than the second biggest ship in the world when she was launched, so nobody had experience to navigate the ship. Even an experienced captain like Edward J. Smith.

My Great Grandmother Julia Rafferty sailed at 16 years old from Queenstown to America on the Oceanic October 8th 1908.

This was the most beautiful liner ever built! AS ELEGANT as ELEGANCE can be!
@Ai Kinward Considering the elegance it was

RMS Occeanic was truly a beautiful ship. It's very easu to see why she was so beloved. Lovely, lovely video. Keep up the good work!

To those who don't believe me here's a video of one (my dad has the other one)

Beautiful ladies of the seas, ruling with class, opulence and elegance! ❤️❤️ Such a sad fate for such luxurious ocean liners! 😭😭✌️✌😢😢

thankfully we still have Oceanics surviving life boats
Thanks for this video it tells me a lot more about the ship and helps me build her in roblox.

That collision really hurt.
I wish the oceanic had more service as a white star ship
Yup and I wish not only for the RMS Britannic (II) to make it into service, but the RMMV Oceanic (III) as well
It's sad that these ships had so much bad luck. It's almost as though there was some kind of curse

Yeah, almost all the WSL ships had been involved in a collision throughout their service.
Geez I had no idea that Oceanic neary collided with the RMS Titanic 😳
Love it. Love it LOVE IT!!!
If the SS. New York would have made physicall contact with the Titanic, it would have delayed the Titanic thus saving the ship from the iceburg.
Oceanic hits a steamer and the steamer almost hits the titanic
Your channel is deeply missed.
It looks nice but even the 1st class passengers must have been really bored as there was only three public rooms
Très intéressant
Only 15 years 😢
who is here after netflix 1899 trailer release
