Estate Sales Worth the Wait! Hunting Antique & Vintage Deals

- These estate sales are packed, and we're going to have to wait to get inside! We visit two good true estate sales today in Miamisburg, Ohio looking for bargain antique and vintage oddities and old standards our collectors are bound to love.
We watch a lot of cool stuff come out of a very 1970s home while we wait our turn, including a split rail bench, a really cool banana seat bike (ridden away for $300), modernist chairs and owl stained glass panels. Will there be anything left for us?
The answer is yes! We find everything from Matchbox cars and cameras in the fantastic barrel-furnished rathskeller in the home's basement, weigh the possibilities of big silver NASA commemorative rounds, score a good camera and a really clean Grasshopper plaid suitcase, and have a great time with our cohorts in line! (Can't say the same about one cranky neighbor though...)
Then we forge ahead to another good sale, this one in a split-level where we find a cool 1950s map puzzle, a really fun and colorful 1950s acrylic sconce lamp, a shell owl and a surprisingly good deal on a 1960s Fenton apartment sized epergne, along with several other fun things we'll take to our upcoming shows in Michigan and Ohio!
We wrap up with some hot chili on a chilly day, served in the unique manners only Cincinnati knows how to do! It's so fun to go into different homes in different areas and enjoy the things their vintage era occupants leave behind.

There was a lot of stuff there that I either “had”, or still have, including that black and white wallpaper. It was on one short wall in the basement when we bought this house. We were so sick of wallpaper after stripping all of it upstairs, so when we made a kitchenette from the kitchen we removed, we left the wallpaper as the background for the new basement kitchen. I was a teacher in the 70s, and Christmas always got me LOTS of Avon from my students, some of which you saw in that house!
The exercise rope device that looked like it would be exercise putting it together made me laugh out loud.
The crabby neighbor across the street sounds like he’s never happy. Bet he sits by the window so he can yell at kids who step on his lawn! There’s always one like him in every neighborhood. 😊
Great video George! You know I loved that 70’s basement! ❤thanks for sharing!
Wasn't that great? I'd move that to California and put it in a 1970s house there where it would be most appreciated
I haven’t heard the term “rumpus room” in decades!
I would have loved to have that Wedgwood Teapot Set of Ornaments. While they are modern, they are not common and sell for good money.
When I was growing up, our neighbors had the barrel set in their living room . My sister and I lived it, my mom thought it was hideous!
Oh. My. God. George that basement and everything in it was what I grew up with. The Chrissy doll in the box made me cry out in excitement as I did in 1969 when I got it for Christmas. I love when you go to estate sales
OMG, yes a romp through the 70's (my teen years). I went to ceramic class and made a few of those cats (1970's), I still have one!
I started selling vintage and antique items on Etsy last year. Both my stepmom and I have quite a collection of dinnerware and we both enjoy going to estate sales on weekends. I love watching your videos and you are very knowledgeable. I've learned so much from you. Thank you and keep making those amazing fun videos, George.
My early years baths were taken with little sweet Avon soaps changed by season and holidays. Interesting choices today... but that 70s rec room was more than Groovy Baby! I adore red chairs! Love it George! ❤❤❤😊
It sure was! I liked the whole place
My mother had Tuesday off from work at Langendorf bakery, and when I got home from school, the Avon lady and mom were at the kitchen table. ❤
Oh Langendorf, that was a brand we saw a lot as a kid
Krissy was my last doll… and I named my only daughter Kristin and called her Krissy when she little… that barrel set was amazing!!
How cute! That's sweet. Barrels were so good
Actually George I was an Avon Girl in my College days, ironically I spoken little English! 😅
in the early seventies , definitely wish I kept many of those collectible items including my
“Sales person case “😊
Thank You great video!
Arrivederci!
Oh my goodness…my husband had some of those barrel chairs when I first met him! He left them behind when he moved from Indiana to Tennessee…at the time I was glad, now I’d probably love them!
Hi George. Fun trip to my childhood. I had Chrissy's older sister Velvet, and Spudsie was for playing Hot Potato...great for the simpler Birthday parties of yore.
George, how do you even see out of your packed car? Goodness...be careful out there.
As someone born around 1970, I just loved these two sales. So fun!
Thanks! It was a throwback. My packed car is strategic so I can see out the side windows always
Loved the 70s house at the first estate sale, it was a step back in history. Looks like you found some nice items too. Hope you picked up the epergen 😊
13:39 that tiger oak seat is incredible! What a time capsule of a house. Hugs, George!
Isn't it great? I loved the house
Oh, my goodness! It was like re-visiting my grandmother and aunt's basements as a kid! I could just SMELL the 70's pine, polyester, linoleum, and faint cigarette/damp basement smell coming through the screen. LOL. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Miamisburg is kinda chi-chi. Good call to check out the sales.
George you missed the pose doll by the dream pet. I have really good results reselling them. Absolutely loved the first sale. An that lucite lamp OHH My❤️
That's good to know, I overlooked it! That lucite lamp is so good
Thank you for the small taste of home. I'm a Boomer who grew up there. Dayton was the first Silicon Valley from 1950 to the earlier 1980s. Sadly it met the fate of so many rest belt cities. Great area to have grown up in.
No one says f ..you to our favorite Nomad ! How dare they!! You got some great stuff!!
Lol! It's humbling to be somewhere that people don't know you and get that response
My mind was tripping over itself as I watched you go down the stairs @ 2:07 - The line going across the carpet behind the barrel chairs had me thinking it was the base of a mirrored wall... but the 'reflection' of the lady putting down the Coke cups didn't make any sense. I had to watch it back a couple times to confirm I was just seeing back-to-back barrel chairs and the 'line' was just some cable or something. 😆
Lol yes that was a funny optical illusion!
Those bar chairs 😍
The first house was my favourite. I loved the Avon soaps. As a child, I used to collect them. The peach one even had a stone in the middle. Take care darling and love to you and Xeno. Charlotte xx
Great estate sale George lots of cool things 😀
love hearing your stream of consciousness when youre making buying decisions. Is like a unique mental checklist of specifics for each item to consider. Pro.
Thanks! I like sharing what I'm thinking so people get my reasoning
These were both great. I try to go a bit later on the opening day that way I don't get run over by the hoards. lol Thanks for taking me along with you. Have a great day and safe travels
Love your videos, ty so much fun🎉,so sorry you had a karen 😮, with the parking
All good
Saw two things I had as a child in the first 5 mins: the Chrissy doll and an alligator on the chair where you picked up Donald Duck! 😊
I sure enjoyed shopping along with you. That first house was a veritable time capsule!
Chili 🌶️ is great when it’s Chilly 🥶 Always learn a lot from your videos thank you!
So fun! I had every single game they had in that rec room!! Played them to death. Wish I had them all again. I'd stack them up, look at them and re-live all the fun times.
Whoa! Loving the basement in that first house. It's so fun seeing items that you grew up with.
Great haul! Loved that old tool chest!
You are sharp as a tack!! (As my grandmother liked to say). Thank you George. Your videos are my must see videos every week. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for the very valuable knowledge you so kindly give to all of us.
Tina
Well placed commercial....right before you said what the neighbor said. ha ha ha safe travels!
This is 5 minutes away from me. I’d have bought you lunch if i knew you were that close. Love your videos!
shoot, that would've been fun! It was a random stop
Oh my Stars, as my mom used to say, I got there at the end. Looking forward to seeing your whole recording ! Thank you George !
Hi George! So excited to read that you are going to be at the Rose City Vintage Market in July! Yay!
Wild George, that was a marvelous sale. The estate sales had so many great things. I'm glad that you got some Great item be safe, have fun. And think you're so much for this adventure waiting for the next.❤😊❤😊❤😊
More to come, I promise!
It was fun hearing you decide to buy so many things! Great prices.
Oh my goodness. Kindness is free perhaps he didn't know!
True! Poor fellow.
My sister just bought me a Chrissy doll in original box. She's in great condition. Sister is trying to buy back our childhood as mom threw out everything over the years. LOL
Cool! My mom did too
Wow! That basement took me back to my early preteen years 😊
No kidding! it was really true to period
You are so polite and mild mannered…and for that nasty guy to say FU to you of all people was a symptom of a very sad and sick individual. And I bet he didn’t speak in capital letters.
George I love shopping with you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
The first estate sale was amazing!
What two great estate sales. So interesting to see what is the same or different things. Please Stay Safe Happy and Healthy Have A Wonderful Day
😂 🤣That Chrissy doll “she got a bad haircut” I would love to know where my old Chrissy doll is right now. Hopefully somewhere where she is being appreciated and not a landfill. My sister had Velvet. I still remember that Christmas morning when they were under our tree.
What an awesome and fun basement set up. Love it ❤️ 😍 Xx
That barrel bar set was great.
I could've owned that!
I would’ve rented a U-Haul and bought it all! Loved it.
@@TheAntiqueNomad I feel your pain George
That was very fun & informative as usual!! Thank you!!!
Wow! The diamond pattern on that barrel furniture set is amazing. Thank you for taking us along and as always for the information.
So fun! Thank you
My eyes went all crazy when I saw the wall paper on your downstairs.
My grandmother taught school and received so much Avon as gifts at Christmas that we literally took bathes in it!
Mine was a nurse, similar issue
Roll out the Barrels! The more I looked at that 70s rec room carpet, the more I liked it! Huge fan of plug in sconces (aka pin-up lights) and that Red -Clear-Blue Acrylic one is a winner! Hmmmm about the Angry-triggered Neighbor, he was off his meds sounds like...or could sure USE some meds...try not to take that personally, that guy was having an "I'm not in control" baby-man melt-down, sounds like. Territorial Issues! Bad Neighbors can steal Joy for sure. Thank You for the great shopping trip ❤
Me too! i don't know that I would've liked the carpet without the furnishings, but it all worked very well. I was not impressed with the friendliness of the neighbor, but everyone at the sale was nice!
I collected Avon kitties and my brother collected Matchbox cars in the ‘70’s…
I love that lucite lamp, too. 23:41 Great response to that nasty guy. ❣️✨️
I have that Sonny and Cher album!!
I had it too
Avon perfume actually smell nice. I love the Amari and Sweet Honesty.
George will you be coming to the Trenton yard sales in Ohio next weekend? It’s very close to Miamisburg! Love your videos! ❤
loved that couch at the first estate sale!
HEY THERE GEORGE, DO THOSE OLD POLYESTER MEN'S TIES RESELL? THE COOL ONES YOU ALWAYS MAGICALLY FIND, LOL!
A little bit, usually around $6-8
Spudsie was a "hot potato" game. That was a timer on the back.
Did all the pieces fly out when the timer went off?
That sounds right! I'd have hated that
It gave an obnoxious buzz when the timer went off.
The purse from the second sale seemed to match the barrel furniture from the first sale! Your comment about the exercise set was classic!
It did match, I noticed! The exercise set just hit me that way
Thanks
Cool! The Lotus Matchbox. Can’t believe how nice ALLLLLL those original packaging remained in good shape. I live in HI, hella tropical/humid weather which destroys everything 😩
And an air control environment just isn’t realistic here since our electric bill is like 3x the national average or something insane.
Yes, it's true, you get things of other materials in Hawaii, or live on the dry side
Your next vehicle needs to be a 🚛 semi!😊
I liked the 1970s basement and barrel bar set. Incidentally, the weapon with the spiked ball on a chain is called a flail, not a mace. A mace is a spiked ball on a shaft.
Super informative, as per usual.
Love the barrel furniture.
Me too my college roommate had it
@@TheAntiqueNomad I remember when I was a little kid my dance teacher had a table set. That was early 70’s. What you showed was an extensive collection. Didn’t know they made lamps.
@ it was! I hadn’t seen all those pieces either
Great estate sales! Loved the wallpaper going down to the basement. In St Louis we eat the spaghetti with chili. There used to be a restaurant called OT Hodges that served it at breakfast w eggs on top, called the “slinger”.
Love the show!❤️
Thank you!
I have a funny feeling that you had a great childhood, really enjoyed this throwback via estates!
Me too, Silver
This was a fun video. I really liked the Matchbox race car and yellow kitchen table. However I also felt the table was way overpriced.
Sorry you had to encounter such a hostile guy. He lost out on what could have been a fun, interesting chat.
I liked those both too!
I would like that purse❤
I still have it!
Amazing estate sales, thanks for sharing this with us 🥰
My neck of the woods!
Steak & Shake also serves chili & spaghetti. They call it "Chili 5 Way". Comes with chili sauce, cheese, and onions.
Good evening, George. If a Matchbox or Hot Wheels is one I like, a few dings doesn't bother me a jot. I kind of like knowing they were enjoyed. I used to have one of those sitting cats. It was made by a cousin of mine, who had a ceramics shop, in the 1970s. She painted the one I had like a grey Persian. I liked that oak throne chair. That Dutch pattern juvenile ware wash basin and pitcher attracted me. I liked the design and the size of it. That Fenton milk glass epergne was a good deal, at $30.00. I used to have one, but I sold it when I moved here. That was funny when you called the guy about ringing the police. You knew you got him by his response 🤣 That was fun shopping! Thanks for the take-along!
I'm not a purist about toys either, if I'm motivated. The 1970s cat is the one to have, the later ones from the Philippines not so much. That throne chair was really good, and I am a fan of juvenile ware in general! I was glad to get the epergne for a good price, the other pieces were higher. You read me well, I did call the guy on it on purpose so maybe the response I got was the result, lol!
@@TheAntiqueNomad Somewhere here...I have my old Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. I'm sure they are far from pristine. I really played with them 😅 I don't remember what happened to the sitting cat my cousin made for me. I also had a pair of the 16" Holland Mold, Art Deco-style cats. They were done in gold, with the eyes painted out. No idea what happened to those, either. I think the only juvenile ware items I have are a Buster Brown tea set and a 1920s...1930s(?) tin lithograph Little Red Riding Hood tea/coffee set. If I had have had room for the Fenton milk glass epergne I had, I would've kept it. Right now, I think there are five or six epergnes here, and there's just not space for another. That guy just wanted to be a "D"...uh-huh...and when you called him on it, it destroyed his little ego trip...time to go home and get the pacifier 🤣
That first house wasn't exactly giving it away. Too much, I would rather get rid of it all at a cheaper price than have a lot left to deal with. Loved that barrel chair set.
My husband fought a line to get my cabbage patch.
Does the Polaroid have the little stick you wipe over the picture when it develops?
I think this one was later but I'm not sure
Thanks for the take along!
Hey George! I had set the reminder for this and i was in the middle of the grocery store when it went off & i never heard it. Watching afterwards is still good tho. Love seeing everything & im thinking theyll be sitting on that yellow table set for a bit. Wow! Great buys today! Too bad the neighbor was a total ... trying to think of a word that wont get me kicked off here but it's just not working. He was just a total. 😮😅😊
Be safe.
Ps - sent you an email.
I'll try to take a look at your email after I get settled in again! Neighbor just was having a bad day I guess lol
Sad I missed the premier. My family has been consumed by the craziness of completing the Grant makeover we won for Link's Martial Arts! I Wanted to come say hello anyway! Looks like an awesome time!
so fantastic you got the grant! I look forward to seeing the progress very exciting
I love cincinatti chili!
21:05 I have three of those drafting kits. On was my dad's, one was great-grandpa's (case beat up from living in a saddlebag!) and one I bought in a thrift for $10. Used it for drawing. I've heard of Cincinatti 3-way chili, but never gotten to eat any. I did however find some hot honey and eat it on pizza; it's a Jersey thing. Texas product though.
I like the drafting kits, they should sell for more in my estimation. Cincinnati 3-way is the thing, but I think I'd like honey on pizza in Jersey even more!
I’m
Watching from Erie. 😮😂❤
Thanks for sharing ❤
George , do not tell an Italian about the spaghetti with chili !😅
Arrivederci!
George, at the second sale right at the beginning of film, you picked up one of the Stamen or whatever they’re called out of that hobnail white Fenton I believe it is. Do you remember what the price was? We’re trying to figure out how to price ours and they are wild range.
7 minutes in I believe that red potato is a Hot Potato toy. You set the timer and whoever is holding it when it goes off is out of the game.
Exactly. I had one!.
I sold Avon when I was 17
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and finds!!
You are packed in there!!!😅
oh yeah
Loved you were near Cincinnati, Skyline is the best.
Where is the best place to sell in the Cincinnati , northern KY area a whole set of Blue Danube china , soup tureen, my mom had everything Thanks. Love your channel.
That Disney Jiminy Cricket was a Mold-a-Rama melted plastic made in those cool 50’s machines. They have a big following probably worth more than the Marx figure. The barrel furniture was awesome to see. Not my taste though.
