  • Longer video of this bike ride coming soon: but for now, enjoy my descent and near-crash on my bike down this challenging descent!
A glorious if chilly 55km cycling loop with 1364m elevation setting off from Ambleside in Cumbria down Coniston Water to Broughton-In-Furness and back to Ambleside.
This route took in the famous Wrynose Pass, which I did not know when I set off! I'm slighty shamed to admit that I'd never even heard of Wrynose Pass, and when I met a gent on an e-bike around Broughton, who said he was heading there, I thought he'd said 'Rhino's Pass'...
Cycling in Cumbria and specifically the Lake District is challenging for sure, with a lot of short and steep up and downs on most roads.
Then you get to climbs like Wrynose and it's even more famous neighbour, Hardknott Pass, claimed by some to be the hardest climb in the UK.
Wrynose was difficult to be sure, with pitches over 20% (I headed up the south side), but the descent was even steeper, and beautiful - until, that is, I misjudged a corner and almost came a cropper!
Hope you enjoy the video, and make sure cycling in The Lakes is on your bucket list ;-)

Just a touch sketchy....don't think my 35yr old single pivot brakes would have missed that wall....😉😆

I was wishing I was going on disc brakes but also happy I was on aluminum rims rather than carbon!
