Go ahead and use a tarp under your tent. You will only make a swimming pool to hold all the water in after a hard rain. Learn how to use a tent the right way and put the tarp on the inside. The floor will last 1000 times longer, you and your stuff will stay dry and you will truly fall in love with camping. NEVER EVER EVER EVER use a tarp UNDER the outside of your tents. Use it inside.
Call a tent manufacturer and learn how tents are made. You do NOT put a tarp under the OUTSIDE of a tent. You can put it on the floor on the INSIDE to keep dry and to protect the floor better.

I borrowed a Friend’s tent ⛺️ last year for my first camping excursion. He told me the poles were old ahead of time but I still felt bad when one of them snapped. So I had a bit of trauma and disbelief when You said “ the pole won’t break…” Thankfully with new poles that are not dry rotted You are right lol Thank You for the video.

Me too, I went camping in the Sahara twice and the tent was permanently set up, but not common in the us. Glamping in the US is too expensive 🤧, for over $100/night, I rather check into a hotel

Camping in the Sahara is a totally different way to see the beauty of the desert, it's easy to joint a group tour from Marakkesh, where international traveler get to know each other during this 2 or 3 days journey. Berber tents are permanently set up with carpets, camel rides, dinner & breakfast are part of the tour package. Bonfire, traditional Berber live music/dancing, stars gazing. Riding a camel to pass an oasis growing veggie tables etc. What's not to like? No, you cannot set up a random tent in the middle of the Sahara, you cannot stake the tent, the sands are shifting. Back to reality, I need to prepare for my beach camping stuffs for tomorrow, the kind of camping where I need to set up my own tent.
Got my old Sea to Summit First Arrow 2 man tent and tried to set it up for the second time in ten years. An ungoldly crow's nest of loops, poles, cords, zippers. The fly has a very sticky like syrup film to it. Degradation of the film? Who designed this? They must have been on acid! The useless, needless complexity is mindboggling! I spent 2 hours trying to figure it out to be sure I could set it up on a trip. Thank God I checked it out first! I wound up taking the 8 dracula tent stakes and cutting the thing up into shreds in disgust. No wonder REI has removed any reference or instructions to this tent! It was an unbelievable. Will see if they respond. Good thing I didn't try to take it out to Mt Mitchell NC camp site and use it.

First of all, I am not bashing you, I am simply telling you how things are supposed to be done the right way. When you check with the tent manufacturers you will learn that the floor of a tent is designed not to need a tarp (under) the tent. If the floor of the tent requires a tarp under it because it doesn't have the normal/proper bottom, run to any other store, even Wall-Mart, and buy a real tent. The floor of tents are designed to protect THE TENT from damage from the ground. If your worried about water getting in, IT WILL. Weather you put a tarp under it or not, ALL tents WILL get water on the floor. By using a tarp under your tent you just make a nice swimming pool to hold the water in so all your stuff inside gets wet no matter what you do. The reason for using tents is to keep you safe and dry from the weather, mostly rain. All tents leak a little and that water WILL be on the floor. Your in a tent to keep you and your stuff dry, so, use a tarp the right way to keep your stuff dry and put it on the (INSIDE) of the tent. 90% of damage to the bottom of tents does not come from the ground outside, the damage comes from you moving stuff around, walking and any other contact on the surface of the floor inside. By putting the tarp on the inside of your tent it will protect the floor from wearing out too soon. Also, by using a tarp on the inside, making sure the tarp is at least 2 feet longer and wider then the tent so the tarp goes up the wall by 1 foot all the way around the inside walls and "without letting anything you own touch the walls, will make a protective bowl (inside) to keep you and your stuff dry. By the way, never touch the inside walls of your tent when camping and it's cold or raining outside, unless you need a shower and want water in your tent. I'm going to keep watching the video now so I may find more areas of how to properly use a tent when camping and I can instruct you how to do it the right way. I'm not bashing you, you were simply taught the wrong way in the 1st place and ignorance can be remedied by learning the right way to do things, and not fallowing what you learned when you were a child.
