What is the strength of this position tho? Why go here over outside sankaku? Better ability to frame their secondary leg away and better ability to expose the heel compared to outside sankaku?
Yes exactly that, easier to expose to heel. I think exposing the heel is one of the hardest things in outside sankaku unless you started going up to your knees and belly down.

I got these second hand from a friend of mine that owns a judo school. Any puzzle mats between 3 and 4 cm thickness will do for a garage gym!
