"I'm a Townshend fan" says it all about Roger Daltrey's utter humility and submission to what essentially was the composer of one of the greatest pieces of rock music in history. I wish they still did these TNT specials in this manner (AMC used to do mini interviews with various performers and commentators as well) because it gives such a great back-story which adds to the magic of the film you're about to see. It's such a fast food society now that people just don't have the attention span to even appreciate or understand what Daltrey is getting at here, especially about the dedication of someone like Ann-Margret to his/her/their art. Thanks for this little gem. I too stopped watching TV a few years back, but had seen Tommy on the On Demand feature of our cable provider, but it was without this or any other setup or interview, and to that date I hadn't heard or really appreciated the album in its entirety until about two years ago.
Don't hate me but I went to see a showing of Tommy this weekend for the 40th anniversary of the film. There was a Q&A at the end - with Roger - and I met him afterwards! I got a hug.... He is do unbelievably lovely. Words aren't enough.
Hi Matthew, weeeel, you know, jealousy and all that! I've since met him again at the Champagne tasting he had in London to launch his own champers to raise funds for Teen Cancer America. He was lovely then, too, said hello like he knew me and we just got chatting! He's so down to earth. So easy to chat to.
Just finished watching the movie and loved it also can’t believe this clip was made in 94 Rodger looks identical to how he was in the movie same long curly hair and going face
Hello The Krynoid Man, sorry, for some reason I couldn't reply. Yeah it was. It was an amazing night for me. If it hadn't been for the kind soul who pointed me out to Roger I would never have met him. The hug was so beautiful.
@@gavincook4684 lol.. funny!.. But they could have found at least one blue eyed blonde haired kid to play the roll. the kid was awsome in the roll though
The album was absolutely transcendent, I've listened to it hundreds of times. When the movie came out I was sorely disappointed. Anne Margaret swimming in pork and beans....really, come now.
The bassist was making sounds that the audience thought were coming from Pete's guitar; many Who fans enjoyed John's playing, but yah Pete and Keith visually exciting to watch.

rafro007 I know TCM still does
Roger, you were no sleazebag yourself. Perhaps one of the most ATHLETIC persons to ever be a major lead signer.
An amazing musical ! so beautiful ! Roger Daltrey is performing so well and he is so beautiful !

That would be incredible if Roger would do this in Los Angeles.
+still mrsw Who?
+Hollywoodsteve oh yeah, he's definitely worth meeting, let me tell you! But then, I'm a young(ish) woman! 😜

0:30 basically sums up the movie
Tommy is one of the greatest films ever made in the history of cinematic history.
Ever catch Russell's other Daltrey collaboration, Lisztomania?
Quadrophenia is excellent also.
@@daviddemaria3982 Agree.
The music is still incredible one of my favorite movies.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I don't watch TV, and never knew about this until I saw it on RUclips.
I remember watching this when it aired!! I'd LOVE to see the full program.

I am loving this interview! I wonder if he could still grow his hair out this way again. Would he want to?
Favorite movie since I was like 3

Just love it !
I know many of the filming locations, being a Portsmouth resident. Quick fact - Ann Margret is only 3 years older than Roger Daltrey.
Awesome clip, thank you.
Love this movie.. But why did they have a brown eyed kid to play the part? Did his eyes turn blue when he got older? Sorry I pick things out like that
Maybe he was the only child who didn't break down with a drunken and angry Oliver Reed shouting in his ear.😏

This is my best friend's grandad.
aaah its the 70s!
Currently reading Pete's audio biography. His version is a little bit different.
Roger looks cool here with his hair longer :~)
Still awesome 😎
It's called a catatonic state.
RIP Ken Russell
🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷♥️♥️♥️♥️
Kinda false advertisement, how they play the (superior) album version of "Pinball Wizard" on the ad, when it's not the version in the movie.
Whats the song that starts at 0:16
pinball wizard :-)
Pete Townshend will always be a musical Guinness. This was all his creation.
What's the name of the scene at 2:18
Oh thank you
Traduzcanlo al español, por favor
Elton's mum was a liar.
He never did grow into those boots.
hahaha!

Crazy, but it was supposed to be like some mental breakdown, anything could have happened. Plus she was drunk.
the Who were and are an interesting band in so far as the lead singer isn't the star - the lead guitarist and the drummer were
Interesting--the true definition of a band, where all the contributors play and important part?
The bassist was making sounds that the audience thought were coming from Pete's guitar; many Who fans enjoyed John's playing, but yah Pete and Keith visually exciting to watch.
I'd like to get rogered by ROGER. =D
he had a 'deal' with his wife - whatever went on on tour wasn't to be mentioned afterwards
