Him quoting a covid conspiracy from a satire website unprompted to backup his argument that his conspiracies arent harmful is actually breath-takingly stupid and there literally isnt a way i could say that nicer
And the cherry on top is that, if he does know his source is bogus, he's seriously insulting the intelligence of his own viewers. His whole strategy depends on it. He's clearly confident that they're going to blindly take him at his word. But that's all assuming he's a grifter and smart enough to know his research is bad. He could very well be just an idiot.
@@AD-dg3zz yeah, considering his response i genuinely think he might just be an idiot who believes this stuff. "never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity" and all that.
Yeah, I also find it funny that he pointed this out as opposed to any of the numbers of actual evidence that some of the Covid vaccines are more dangerous than other vaccines due to its lack of testing.
It's just more proof that he didn't even check Milo's channel, much less actually watch either video. Hell, somebody else probably made the edited screenshots for him.
@@rault114 It's kinda funny too because if he had actually sat down and watched either video he'd have far better reference points to make his qualifying defenses of his work and character. I can only surmise that he's making assumptions from vibes, and _possibly_ watching a few shorts, the trailers, and skimming the timelines of the actual vids, of what Milo said and giving surface level arguments in response to equally surface level viewing and assumptions. It's honestly a bit maddening seeing him treat this entire affair as a tit-for-tat drama between two Tik Tokers and not good faith, constructive criticism and honest advice about his output.

I think everyone instinctively trust a creator to be legit after seeing a bunch of legit content and won't suspect them to share outright misinformation unless it is extremely blatant. What kills me about his argument is that, my guy, conspiracy theories don't allow for the development of new theories or discoveries, it stifles them. Look at how much people who believe in flat earth etc are so anti-science they think anything invented after the fucking 1600s is evil.
to be fair, he does attempt to make a distinction between "hardcore" conspiracy theorists and "open-minded" people like himself. problem is his idea of "open-mindedness" involves placing those centuries-old, endlessly debunked theories on the same level as up-to-date theories with actual facts backing them up
Its exactly what I was thinking, like I dont think I'd have the patience trying to explain to someone so far gone that they see the ridiculous fake stuff as leads on hidden secrets of reality and the hard work scientist do as lies that keep people in dark. Like it's a bit inspiring how hard Milo is trying to reach him when Filip firmly believes his fringe conspiracies are so thought provoking they are going to help progress.

It reminds me of that episode of south park where Cartman reads the news at school and starts raising a lot of conspiracy questions like "Does the student president spend money on drugs? I don't know, but if she does it's fair that my money go to the drug market?" justifying himself with "I'm just asking myself questions"
I’m honestly feeling a little bad for Filip, it’s hard to play the "I’m being slandered and silenced" card when your opponent is just the chillest guy ever
I'm inclined to think he knows it's bullshit. He knows milo is right. But he has a financial incentive to never ever admit it. Let's be real. Would anyone give a shit about what he has to say if he wasn't peddling conspiracies. You are star dust isn't even that big of a thing as milo thinks. That's a tumblr post. He said himself real science videos get basically no attention. By doing what milo says. He'll end his own career. So why would he do that. He's just some nobody Canadian frat bro without conspiracy theories. Would even milo give him a second glance if he stopped after the first video. Would any of us if he does after this one?
@@legojay14 that's not necessarily true. You can still get a lot of attention while still only talking about science, and as Milo said he can still float these ideas around but just needs to be more upfront with the fact they are not proven. You are correct however that Filip has built his whole channel around this portrayal of some kind of undercover truth seeker who is being hunted for his ideas, so in a very sad way. This might actually be how Filip views the world, he has bought into this persona so thoroughly that he now believes that anyone critiquing him, is part of the larger scheme to silence the truth. This response is expected of someone who has decided they are the only beacon of truth, and sadly a good portion of his audience will eat this stuff up. It is quite sad but yeah Filip could rebrand himself and still have a good size audience but he won't.
@@johnfairweather7012 That's more what I mean. He himself can't get more attention by doing real science. He might be to lazy to get fun "Oh wow isn't this a freaky belief. He simply doesn't want to do the work to make it better. He wouldn't peddle conspiracies if he actually liked putting in effort
I hate how long it took me to find your content. I essentially speed-ran the Graham Hancock videos in my downtime at work, and then just kept following for the newer content. I plan to go back to watch the older series after this. I had no idea who Filip was just that he sounded exactly like one of Joe Rogan's best friends, Brenden Schaub, he just happens to use bigger words. But thank you for making the content, highlighting the sources, and being fair when talking about areas outside of your expertise. The past decade+ has really had me bummed out with how much dis/misinformation has run wild. It's nice to see someone speaking with some sanity on the internet. Thank you
He loves to use the term "controversial" instead of "disproven" a lot. Like there are actually controversial things in science that have yet to be disproven, but are contentious among scientists. None of his videos are covering those things, though.
Yup, you can say theories explored by HISTORY FOR GRANITE are controversial, as in, many people who proposed them were if not blacklisted from events, at least severely downplayed by mainstream Egyptology, that's who conspiracy theorists PRETEND to be, the Galileos of our time, but they're closer to Nero saying "Christians burned Rome" level of controversy, I mean, after the "eating the cats" lie, there were actual pogroms.
"controversial" makes someone seem like a cool renegade, a counter cultural iconoclast rebel "disproven" makes someone seem like an ignorant jerk who is at best misguided and at worst actively harming others
Because it is not really a debate. If you're like Filip, acting indignant when you get called out, crying about being "silenced" even as your critics literally give a platform to your views, is part of the grift. The truth does not actually matter. These theories are wacky and indefensible on purpose. If everyone is calling your followers silly, and you are the only one giving them the impression that they are the smart ones, they end up being even more loyal to you. Then when someone comes to actually argue against your views, you can just be like " oh no, more people coming to be mean, take shelter my dear ones". Standard cult dynamics.
"my famous stardust video... took me less than five minutes to research" - no, Filip, it took you less than five minutes to find a nice, ready-to-use bit of trivia that's been researched intensively by thousands of astronomers for a century. And WE'RE STILL DOING IT, and make educational content out of it, so that you can do your "own research" from them.
I just can't get over how he then said that a conspiracy theory video took him *whole TWO HOURS* to research (*and* script!) two hours is like barely enough to start digging up sources you're going to check out later

Also "two hours of research" are nowhere near research anyone would do for ANY scientific theory, period... it's not even a lot for full length RUclips video, this is about the time it takes to make a single short give or take. People's videos on videogames take TONS more hours of researching. Science takes months and years of research!
It's pretty hilarious that most of his "research" is all from youtube of all fucking places. I remember being told not to use youtube as research for my info at uni, soon as he started linking those I almost spat out my tea, glad I didn't because it was a fucking nice stew
@KasumiRINA it's like when you make a movie or any type of film (that isn't for youtube or whatever) Each minute of video requires round about 30 minutes of actual shooting, 30 minutes of actual video getting that minute done perfect.
Also him having no problem with quickly googling (dingdingding) an actual scientific fact and just repeating it without doing any more in depth research feels very ironic. He literally knows it's most likely true because wikipedia told him. And he's probably right.
Having researched conspiracy theories in order to run a D20 modern campaign, This is exactly the case. Finding all the disproven theories details takes much time, especially as many of the debunking articles you find don't cite the actual article or book they are debunking, and quote only parts of it. Then you have to track down obscure, poorly selling books, often self-published so you can read them.

Bro: Do not blindly trust sources Also bro: cherry picks a random site whose one and only piece of credibility they clearly state on the article is a joke site
Important note. Cherrypicking isn't actually a true fallacy. Not in rhe manner in which milo described it. Unrelated to Filip, but about the cat piss: if a cat starts peeing on furniture or laundry, take them to the vet for a checkup. Cats are very particular about cleanliness but will start looking for more comfortable places to relieve themselves if either their litter box is too unkempt, they're very stressed/not as welcome by another cat, or they're having health problems. Male cats especially are prone to UTIs or urethral blockages, and especially if you use clay litter. Monitor the health of your cat, and seek advice if you're not familiar with a cat's comfort or stress behaviors. Happy, healthy cats with access to well-maintained litter boxes almost never have accidents.
Keep the litterbox clean and uncovered. Cats instinctively want to be able to see their surroundings while they are vulnerable going to the bathroom. Covered boxes can stress them out to the point of not using the box anymore.
this! it helps to have more than one litter box, and if you have more than one cat, try to have one or two more litter boxes than you have cats. i have seven cats, and one of them started peeing on the counter and other places outside the litter boxes. we separated the boxes and added an extra one, problem solved.

Man as someone who lost loved ones to covid thanks to vaccine conspiracy theories, Filip quoting a vaccine conspiracy theory from a satire website to millions of people absolutely made my blood boil.
This is also precisely why I hate conspiracy theories like this. I'm lucky to have an entire family of doctors and educated people that know better, and when I hear stories from people like you that have lost loved ones because of conspiracy theories, I'm only remindned of the true harm that conspiracy theories can give. Hope you're doing ok man
Yep, my mom's cousin didn't believe in covid or the vaccine, she went to the hospital because she couldn't breath, the doctors told her she had covid and if she didn't go on a ventilator she would likely die, she called the doctor a "liberal deepstate agent" and told him "trump said covid isn't real so I know I don't have something that isnt real, it must just be my allergies acting up" then stormed out and went home to post on Facebook about how she "owned the deep state liberal doctor" and told him off, then died that night in her sleep. Then her mom made a "no mask" rule for the funeral, which was full of people that had seen her less than 2 days before she died...
Sorry, but those weren't all theories and covids vaccine barely worked as described. They came out and said this, the medical community came out and told us the truth just a year or so ago. Idk what theories your talking about, but the vaccine was not very protective as advertised. They also lied about covid death counts, adding people who died from other things but happened to have covid in their system. The vaccine was a money making scheme more than anything else.
@aj4waffles Cool story bro. But that's exactly what it is, unless of course you were in the room listening to every word? I don't think people speak like that, and if they do they probably deserve to win the Darwin award.
Hi mini Minuteman, I love your videos, and I’d like my kids to watch them because they’re always on Shorts and TikTok. I constantly have to tell them that the videos they’re watching aren’t true, they’re just made to get views, and they shouldn’t believe everything they see on the internet. The thing is, I’m from the suburbs of Montreal, Quebec, and my kids still don’t speak english. I don’t know how translations work or what the costs are, but it would be really cool if your videos had multiple translations, kind of like Mark Rober and Mr. Big. Ok, they’re at the top of youtube , but I believe your content is really essential in 2024. Thanks for considering it if it’s possible.

The fact that Filip has the gall to ask why people care so much about pointing out archeological conspiracy theories when he literally peddles antisemitic and antivax conspiracies within just a few minutes is so frustrating. That's the whole reason. People who fall for one conspiracy theory are much more likely to fall for more in the future.
Filips response is literally, to the letter, exactly why none of that crowd has any credibility. The fact you've given him any respect at all is amazing to me, because the "do your own research" people are the ones setting us back decades in science. I wouldn't even spit on them. It's disrespectful to my DNA

I think Milo sees himself in Phillip if he went down a different path. He talked a bit about it in his lecture about the pseudo-science pipeline, and he mentions relating to the feeling of popularity and his main video on zeiba, and he really relates to him on the first bits about creation process on his first reaction to Philip’s response.
A great man (Terry Pratchett) once wrote a book (The Truth) based around the saying 'A lie can run round the world before the truth has got its boots on.' The book is about integrety in journalism, fact checking and sticking it to your awful father. At the end, Pratchett amends the saying with an epitaph that has stuck with me my whole life. 'A lie can run round the world before the truth has got its boots on. The truth has got its boots on- and its going to start kicking.' The second quote is paraphrased as I couldnt quite find it exactly online. Regardless, its a mark of high praise that your videos bring that phrase to mind every time I see them. Keep going, it's clear you are driving him googldybunkers. ❤
Another point about Galileo, the reason the Church was prosecuting him was because he literally called the Pope an idiot in his book. Had he been more diplomatic in how he presented his arguments he probably would have been left alone.
not really. in the first trial (before the book) they demanded him to abandon heliocentrism, not to teach, think, or speak of it and stated it was heretical to do so. he was set up by a few geocentrism hocking scientists who delivered "evidence" of heresy by galileo. only in the second trial did the book come up. also, galileo did not literally call the pope an idiot, and likely did not mean to insult the pope like that. obviously he was taking the piss, but he did what he was asked. galileo's enemies convinced the pope that simplicio was originally a caricature of the pope himself, which was not galileo's intention. honestly nothing galileo did was worthy of one trial, much less 2 and a severe punishment. he was an honest scientist and was punished for it, forever doomed to treat his life's work as a trifle.
yeah Galileo was treated with kiddy gloves because he was a close friend with the Pope. He was asked to provide proof for his theories not because the church hated him but because he was teaching it dogmatically (as part of the faith).
Also also; it’s wild that Filip’s response to ‘hey, you could be a genuine influence on people and educate them and be a better goddamned fucking person’ and his reaction was ‘nah’
genuinely so many people like that. I've educated folks on topics with the most gentle of touches and their takeaway was almost always "i dont care lol'
It just shows he is only in it for a quick bag, doesn't care about the harm it could cause, He is not in it for a long standing career path where he could actually be respected and get supported by people. He is only shooting his own foot with here.
You’re a saint? And there’s at least one saint that’s apparently “better” than you, which could imply there are at least two “levels” of sainthood… Damn I’m high and over thought this!!!

41:36 Did he really showed a video where he is talking about flat earth conspiracy right after comparing himself to Galileo and saying that he was cancelled for saying the Earth is round? Is he for real
The arrogance and sarcasm in his voice as he's talking about the vaccine conspiracy while unknowingly superimposing a satire website as his proof is just.... *mwah* chef's kiss. One of the finer moments of my week.
To anyone who didn't want Filip's response video or Milo's original reaction to it, I think it is important to mention that Milo was extremely respectful and with his edit o it made Filip's response sound a lot more coherent than it actually is. In reality Filip repeats mostly 4 to 5 points again and again for 20 minutes.
I'm not scared to admit that I fell into the Graham Hancock trap. It's very easy for people to use psychology and misinformation to essentially manipulate people into believing these crazy ideas. But to be that delusional is mind boggling! Also Milo is a man of his word, that sofa got what's coming to it
Spreading misinformation is always bad, even if they claim it as just an opinion. My dad and other people have been affected by videos made by Filip and others, even if they are clearly wrong. By taking the stance of being a rebel against "big science,"people will believe anything, including my close friends and family. Explaining this to them is a pain. I love and respect the work you and Professor Dave do, fighting against Anti-intellectualism.
People have gotten to comfortable voicing their “opinions”. Most people don’t really care and when you go out of your way to preach “opinions” that are misinformed at best… yeah it’s no wonder channels like shadiversity are failing. All he had to do was shut up like normal people and focus on the actual facts (the content) and not his ego (“opinions”).
Yeahh, I've been personally effected by someone spreading misinformation, twice. Once was when my (already abusive) father got into conspiracies and started harassing me over the medication I need to improve my quality of life being "poison" and trying to get me to stop taking them, as well as him trying to imply that I wasn't really queer and that I was just "influenced" to be queer by other countries so that America would have less kids and be easier to invade or some absurd bullshit. And then another time when I was in a small video game community some "drama commentary youtuber" decided he'd make some videos about me and my friends, spreading rumors and misinformation, and cover his hide by saying "oh take it with a grain of salt." He made up horrible things and people believed him, we ended up being harassed and it destroyed our reputations. It was such a traumatic experience that I ended up leaving the community not long later, despite spending years there.
Conspiracy bro: "Why won't mainstream science engage with these thought provoking ideas?" An actual archaeologist: "Ok I'll bite. I'll treat you like a fellow scientist and subject your theories to the same degree of scrutiny as I would any other scientific theory. Ball's in your court now. Wanna refine your theories, research more evidence, and continue the conversation?" Conspiracy bro: "I'm being SILENCED! 39:59 I know it was not the point, but Galileo didn’t discover heliocentrism he confirmed it. Nicolaus Copernicus was the one who discovered it. Edit: Did some more digging. Turns out I was slightly wrong by saying the Copernicus discovered it heliocentrism. I was going by the common notion of "(Copernicus) Halted sun, moved the earth". Turns out the Archimedes in his book "the sand reckoner" gave a shout out to Aristarchus (whose book was sadly lost to times) who writes about heliocentrism in III century B.C
And he was placed under house arrest not so much for his heliocentrism, but because he was an argumentative chap who rubbed the wrong people up the wrong way.
@@merseyvikingit’s a bit like saying WWII was caused by WWI or that WWI was caused by the high jinks that was that assassination it removes all the context that actually lead to that and the response afterwards.
@@draketurtle4169 Yeah, but the Church was saying if heliocentrism is true, then we should observe stellar parallax. Galileo countered by saying the stars are too far away for us to observe stellar parallax. The Church then re-countered by saying the telescopes Galileo himself developed show that the stars should be close enough for us to observe stellar parallax. Galileo was in the unfortunate predicament that he had the right idea, but lacked the technology in order to empirically prove his assertions. He was allowed to publish his findings granted that he made a disclaimer that the math checks out, we just don't have concrete proof yet. He not only outright refuse to do that, he outright called the person who told him to do that (who also happened to be the pope) a literal idiot while doing it. I'm not saying what happened to Galileo was justified. I'm saying he was a dick and if he did what he did today he won't be taken seriously by any authority, secular or otherwise, either.
@@draketurtle4169 Nah, it was more that Galileo wrote a book calling the pope, who was also a powerful lord, mentally disabled. House arrest in one of the most luxurious estates in Italy was the result of that, not of his Heliocentrism argument, hence how he came to be put under house arrest only 17 years after he was initially forbidden from defending Heliocentrism. It's also a little unfair to the Catholic Church at the time to claim they were working backwards from their conclusion, since their arguments against Galileo included that, if Earth orbits the Sun, we should be able to see the stars wobble a bit (stellar parallax), since they would remain relatively static. Alternatively, the average star would have to be utterly enormous and far further away than anyone was generally theorising (sometimes foreshadowing is relatively obvious...). At the time, it was not possible to see this, due to the relatively primitive telescopes available, hence the scientific orthodoxy of the time had a fairly potent argument against Galileo's theory. He was reasoning based on some good evidence, but going beyond what it absolutely proved. Later evidence of course did confirm Galileo, but at the time Tycho Brahe's model also adequately explained the evidence on offer, without requiring as radical a change in the scientific understanding.
This felt like watching am HBomberguy video except you post more than once a year and I get to learn a lot of stuff on archeology now which is awesome.
What I dislike about the 'im entitled to my opinion' argument is that people like zeiba dont believe it is an opinion. They want you to treat their horseradish bullshit as a fact as something concrete and undisputably true and any time they get the smallest bit of pushback they hide behind the 'oh this is so orwellian' defence. No, Mr Zeiba, it is not censorship to question your logic and to prove how badly you messed up your 'research' into these topics. It is the direct opposite of it since both parties can and have voiced their grievances. The only difference is that one party actually has solid proof and concrete evidences and you do not.
The other thing about the "opinion entitlement" crowd is that people like that seem to only see the "opinion entitlement" to basically only exist for them. The second anybody has anything to say against them all of a sudden it's silencing, shaming, and Orwellian instead of giving them opinions on their fucking work. But I guess crying about silencing is easier than actually trying to defend your opinion
"It's censorship when I disagree with it. It's the peoples' free voices when I agree with" - said every pseudo-intellectual and proto-fascist out there
They have to call it an "opinion", because of they call it a "fact" it will be fact checked and they will get owned. So they call it an opinion, and hold onto it. But their opinion is still wrong. And opinions SHOULD be held to scrutiny.

I know you cut out the part where he references Obi-wan’s “Only a Sith deals in absolutes” quote but the funny part is that the quote itself is an absolute. The point of the quote isn’t to show that Obi-wan was wise but so stuck in the mindset that any view he or his order disagreed with is incorrect that he was unable to accept or even recognise any other views as possibly true. Ironic honestly that Philip missed that 😂
Actually the key part of the quote is "DEALS is absolutes", as in, seeing everything in black and white and refusing to allow shades of grey into your worldview Hmmm, that sounds familiar
That thing you said about someone saying something douchey and then depending on the reaction saying it's a joke can be called schrodinger's irony or schrodinger's douchebag. It's a term on the internet, but I feel like schrodinger's irony can be a genuine psychological reaction. The natural urge to blend in makes us do erratic things, so when something we say isn't perceived the way it was intended, we flip its meaning so we can remain in sameness. It's pretty cool even though it's not a genuinely studied phenomenon.^^

A) yes im in high school not college lmao :) B) it took me like 40 hours of research, and it's a pretty established area of research. Something more niche could take like 200. 2 hours is like asking chatgpt for ideas for an hour and thirty minutes and then realizing you dont have enough time to write it and then ask chatgpt to finish writing it for you. The video kind of proves that lmao. C) it's about Why Medieval and Gothic Architecture should be considered an Art Form. Really enjoyed it, would highly suggest taking a look at the topic.
I spent so many evenings over so many months researching for my gymnasiearbete, in addition to the field work, as did the rest of the people I worked with. Later in university I wrote a paper and presentation on hydroponics, and spent more than two hours researching a single sentence. And that was me calling it early because there’s only so much you can read on famine induced social upheaval before it destroys your hope for the future.
Two hours is like the amount of research I do into random topics that interest me, when I have the time. And I don't even actually do any serious academic work. I assume he was talking about his shorts though.

@@legojay14 i mean yeah it would be insane if he believed ALL of the bullshit he spreads in his videos, for sure.
@@legojay14I mean, people are HUGE fans of explaining myths and where they came from, as Milo showed with his series. Philip could do that.

Controversial: M Theory, Einstein-Rosen (or was it Rothschild?) bridges, hologram theory
False: ancient aliens, Baghdad batteries, giants
"controversial" makes someone seem like a cool renegade, a counter cultural iconoclast rebel
"disproven" makes someone seem like an ignorant jerk who is at best misguided and at worst actively harming others
Yep, because admitting they’re disproven and he’s spewing bs is just too hard 😂
It’s also funny because he seems upset that the apparently controversial thing brought controversy lol
Debating Filip is like playing chess with a pigeon.
You could be a grandmaster, they're still going to shit on the board and strut away like they won.
I'm yoinking this phrase for my day-to-day life. Thank you, good human.
Yeah this is prime analogy. Well done.

And WE'RE STILL DOING IT, and make educational content out of it, so that you can do your "own research" from them.

@KasumiRINA it's like when you make a movie or any type of film (that isn't for youtube or whatever)
Each minute of video requires round about 30 minutes of actual shooting, 30 minutes of actual video getting that minute done perfect.

If it´s one thing I learned since studying is how little I acutally know. "Hours of research" do not make you smarter, they just show you a very basic overview of the stuff you have absolutely no or only basic knowledge of.

Do the people harmed by the vaccine not exist?

Another point about Galileo, the reason the Church was prosecuting him was because he literally called the Pope an idiot in his book. Had he been more diplomatic in how he presented his arguments he probably would have been left alone.
The Pope was actually interested in the theory until Galileo made a whole book calling him an idiot.
this is unserious apologetic big guy
not really. in the first trial (before the book) they demanded him to abandon heliocentrism, not to teach, think, or speak of it and stated it was heretical to do so. he was set up by a few geocentrism hocking scientists who delivered "evidence" of heresy by galileo. only in the second trial did the book come up. also, galileo did not literally call the pope an idiot, and likely did not mean to insult the pope like that. obviously he was taking the piss, but he did what he was asked. galileo's enemies convinced the pope that simplicio was originally a caricature of the pope himself, which was not galileo's intention. honestly nothing galileo did was worthy of one trial, much less 2 and a severe punishment. he was an honest scientist and was punished for it, forever doomed to treat his life's work as a trifle.
yeah Galileo was treated with kiddy gloves because he was a close friend with the Pope. He was asked to provide proof for his theories not because the church hated him but because he was teaching it dogmatically (as part of the faith).

I know it was not the point, but Galileo didn’t discover heliocentrism he confirmed it. Nicolaus Copernicus was the one who discovered it.
Edit:
Did some more digging.
