You know all in all Poseidon is being pretty lenient, Odysseus cripples his son instead of giving him an honourable death, so Poseidon tells Odysseus that if he gives up his life and apologies all his accomplices (his soldiers) get a safe ride home, Odysseus then spits in his face with the bag trick and despite that insolence that would make most gods go completely ballistic Poseidon still gives him the chance to sacrifice himself for his people
well Poseidon's mood is like the sea itself, very changeable and unpredictable, so maybe it was just a point where his mood swung to the calmer side of the sea for a bit, cause if it was his raging seas side they wouldnt have even gotten the offer
Tbf Poseidon had already killed most of his fleet and confirmed he would kill Odysseus too whether he apologized or not right before the latter opened the bag

@@dako2127 no Ody. survives this but it comes at the cost of Poseidon sending a multitude of storms that delay his return home by ten years. All of his crew die by the end of it- though they are killed by others like circe, zeus, or various sea monsters/witches not necessarily Poseidon directly. He doesn't kill Penelope or Telemachus (odysseus wife and son) as the fates/Athena are protecting them.

Fun fact for those who didn't read the Odyssey but Poseidon actually does this in the book just not to Ithaca. Odysseus lands on another island after Calypso lets him go and they help him get home. In response, Poseidon sinks the island.

It's kind of amazing how this makes Poseidon monstrous but in a different way from Ruthlessness. In Ruthlessness he was full of the thundering rage that you expect from a Greek god, as he seeks to punish Odysseus for daring to maim one of his children. But in a way you could almost understand and respect Poseidon for that because it's understandable for a father to want to punish the person who harmed their child.
But here? Here you get the impression that Poseidon almost doesn't care anymore. That at this point he couldn't care less about Polyphemus and is only doing this because he has a reputation to uphold, but otherwise is kind of bored of the whole thing. Which makes his willingness to flood an entire city just for the sake of punishing a single mortal he decided needs to be made an example of all the more chilling. He's not even angry anymore, he's just...impatient.
Ruthlessness was about the wrathful characteristic of an Olympian. This song, I think, is about the callousness and precociousness of an Olympian. The two sides of the Olympians that made them feared as much as they were loved

Though there is a tiny bit of anger left in him about his son, in my opinion. Specifically when he threatened to "take his son and gouge his eyes" like what he did to his son. A literal eye for an eye. (Or rather eyes for an eye)

It's call Epic: The Musical and is the Oddessy told exclusively through song. The creator is Jorge Rivera-Herrans and it started as tiktok posts. The total thing will eventually be 40 songs but it's not fully released. Not sure what the endgame is for release.

My only complaint is that it doesn’t sound like Poseidon is angry I feel like his voice should have more anger in it but other then that I love the song
In Epic, he’s not angry as so much indignant. He’s angry at Odysseus for not giving his son, Polyphemus, an honorable death, instead blinding him and allowing him to live and curse the King.
Also, he has a reputation to uphold.
Remembering the tv movie, Posideons line was "I do not want to kill you. ... I want you to suffer... much more."
Earlier on after daring to challenge Posiedon after his victory, Posiedon says he will never again reach Ithaca, and he will suffer.
To me, the calmness is scarier than anger could ever be: he is being as unforgiving and unempathetic as Odysseus was when he blinded Polyphemus, reflecting the lack of morality back at him. He knows that he's in charge here, and he's taking his sweet, sweet time.
I think they are still holding auditions for Poseidon so this will not be the official voice in the musical

Yeah, and that's very cowardly on Odysseus's part, but unless I misunderstood, that doesn't have anything to really do with my feelings about Poseidon, which was what my comment was about. I understand that his son was hurt, and that he wanted Odysseus de*d, but for me, I cannot empathize, or even really sympathize, with him because in my mind, he's just a *apist...nothing more. He's a *apist who got away with taking advantage of a vulnerable woman because he knew he had power over her and he destroyed her life without any remorse.
As someone who's been SA'd and has family and friends who have been SA'd, seeing what we have gone through, and imagining what it must have been like for Medusa to lose *everything* dear to her because of what he did to her, Poseidon loses all sympathy and respect to me.
It's not the ACTUAL myth, though. In the original myth, Medusa was a gorgon from birth- not a woman cursed. When it was adapted by Ovid in Not As Ancient Greece, he changed her around because he was an Athenite, a city that apparently disliked Poseidon already.. and Ovid hated him.
It wasn’t just Medusa. It was other women as well, he turned himself into a horse after a chick he was after turned into a horse
