    Olga is a beautiful girl.
I remember reading a study that said naming things encourages the owner to take care of the thing. Nothing sacrilegious about it. When it is back in stock, the 125lb Holland Euro style anvil I am buying will be named Peaches.

Olga.. she's definitely a prize to be had!
Here's my 2 cents on anvil ring...
An anvil will always ring louder on a wood block. The wood doesn't absorb or transfer sound very well so there is nowhere for the sound to go so it reverberates/rings.
A steel base, sand filled or not will allow the reverberations/ring to continue through the stand and into the floor. Therefore Less ring.
    Thanks for the video...

Hey Roy thanks for the video! I know you're a busy man but can you go over your post vise mount in a quick video? Still trying to figure out how I want to mount mine I want it to be portable and it looks like yours is. Thanks in advance!

Any suggestions on books, web pages, or any other info or media sources for beginners? I have a small anvil and a small gas forge I purchased from a horseshoe and farrier supply shop. I bend horse shoes into cancer ribbons. Then powder coat them and donate them to cancer benefits or give them to fellow cancer warriors I meet at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas where I go for my treatment and all for my cancer. I am interested in learning more about the art of blacksmithing. Thank you for any help and God bless you and your wife!

I'm sure you don't have to do this often (if at all), but what do you do when you have to move your anvil? And how did you get Olga on the stand in the first place? I am guessing you would either have to build/buy/rent a hoist or crane. That, or have at least have a couple of friends come over to lend a strong back.

This just gave me a question for you, do you wear hearing protection while forging? Sometimes I like to take my ear muffs off, so I wondered if you like to wear anything to block the sound out. Thanks Roy. You're a great inspiration to me.

For me 150lbs is the biggest I’d use a wood stand on and that’s pushing it. I’d prefer a steel stand for any anvil. I also prefer a sharp edge

Thanks for sharing about your Olga. One thing you didn’t mention was her weight. I know in normal society it is impolite to ask after a ladies weight, but in this case I may well be forgiven. She is a real beauty though.

Yep, these anvils are extremely high quality. A german "Peddinghaus" anvil from the 1800's often has egdes like a new one, even when uses everyday. These tools are worth every penny! :)
