I would never ever unsee Derek everytime I hear this. I woul never unfeel Mariah's escaping moment from Tommy for a very quick while, just to sneak out with a guy whom she knows has the perfect family situation as hers, except Derek's family not being dysfunctional like hers. I feel like Derek is her (in other terms)TOTGA, and it makes me feel sad that the situations made them not end up with each other.

you can clearly see she sang the first line over the voice of the rapper. It's evident that she sang it with the track playing. She even changed the last line from 'kissing in the dark' into 'kissing good-bye'. She's not lipsyncing y'all!

This was no mistake - the label didn't release it commercially on purpose. It never charted as a result. At the time of its release Mariah had beef with Sony Music and her ex, Tommy Mottola. So to spite her, they shelved any promotion behind it. Sad. Such a dope track.

She sang it nicely a capella when rehearsing with her team in a recorded video shown in her IG, so I thought she was going to do it live. Disappointing.

lytee Can we also consider the factors why she lipsynced? because a.) she has 'nodules' to which the other singers you're referring to doesn't b.) she's been singing not just a week but for 28 straight years c.) her songs are freaking hard and that's a huge factor d.) she admitted way back 2001 that she didn't take care of herself mostly her voice and just sang and sang everytime e.) she's 48, has weight issues on, low self esteem and that brings her down sadly... but for this case on 'The Roof' which is an easy song, idk why she lipsynced but for Emotions & etc, its obvious she's lipsyncing to it to still save what she can blow.... chill Beyonce, Celine Dion and a lot vocalist does lipsync to preserve their voice

lytee Yes age isn't really a factor but does Stevie Wonder ever whistle at his age? or does he belt or do some G5/Bb5 whatever those notes are? Also Celine Dion has lipsynced in the past explains why her voice is still in good condition because she also takes care of herself... Not all lipsyncers can't sing, they sometimes lipsync to avoid overstraining the voice.. And no she didn't stop singing in 2000's, she still sings but 'some' are lipped already due to extreme work & straining in 90's
