- Perhaps the most explosive insider historical account of significance ever written, Procopius' "The Secret History" claims to voice the untold story of the latter stages of Eastern Rome and it's swift degeneration, specifically under Justinian and Theodora.
This respected scholar and historian was no enemy of the Emperor and Empress - at least at the outset - and in fact was chosen by them to be the leading Byzantine court historian. He subsequently became the man responsible for documenting the Gothic wars, spearheaded by Eastern Rome's most famous and capable general of the day, Belisarius.
So explosive was the work, and so extreme were certain claims, that the entire work has been largely ignored - a serious mistake and injustice, in my view.
This video is a tribute to Procopius, his work, and all similar important histories quietly shuffled away or proactively hidden. One can't help but notice countless parallels with the collapse of Rome and our own degenerate, prideful, ignorant and forgetful age, and important related lessons.. let's not turn our heads.

At the conclusion of the series on the Goths, I'd mentioned 'The Secret History' - it's importance, and my desire to somehow cover it exclusively in the future. I finally felt compelled enough to gather my notes together to proceed and do just that.
I decided to not make this an official 'subverted history' installment after all, considering it doesn't quite cover a broad expanse of time and topics, but has a much more narrow and specific focus. In a sense, it's almost a powerful supplemental, in my mind, to the three-part Gothic series.. even if it does have significant standalone value as an account of the latter stages of Eastern Rome.
Regardless, it's an astonishing account, and profoundly important... and, as yet, still virtually unknown. It shouldn't be.
There is *much* more to say on the issue of ancient Persia, the Medes, 'usurper' rulers and genuine strangeness regarding this time period - strangeness that continues to this day, with regard to Wikipedia, and the modern histories written - and certainly much more to say on the Khazars.

There have been many great Catholics and respectable Popes. The current pope certainly isn't among this number, but I'd not want this to be seen as an exclusive attack on Catholicism, and certainly not on Orthodox Christianity. I have genuine respect for men like Richard Williamson, for example, still valiantly fighting on fronts so many others have wholly abandoned.
Every wing and denomination of the church has suffered similar infiltration and subversion. This piece just happens to focus, in large part, on one element of this subversion.. but doesn't intend to insinuate modern Protestantism has somehow taken a healthy path, in contrast.

In his book, The Great Reset, Klaus Schwab specifically mentions the Plague of Justinian on p. 13. I seem to remember bumping into a similar reference in an another similar source - perhaps an MIT Technology Review article, but I'm not certain. Schwab's reference is enough to give one pause.

The bit about Justinian's face disappearing into an indistinct mass of flesh on his head is very disturbing, something about the subtleness and banality of evil - able to imitate human form very often but sometimes letting the facade slip to reveal its monstrous anti-humanity.

All the “history” docs and videos I’ve seen regarding Justinian made him out to be “The Last Roman” who was honorable, just and pious. They dismissed the Secret History as Catholic propaganda to demean the Orthodox East. But after watching this video and conducting my own research, Precopius WAS the true author of the Secret History, and is our best source for the time. I’m very interested to see how such a book managed to escape Byzantium and found itself within the vaults of the Vatican.

What Procopius says about Theodora is really nasty. Imagine the worst and most narcissistic 21st century OF ethot but give her absolute power over the law and the land.

What if Procopius wrote this work as a “buffer” for his life in case Justinian was overpowered and a coup took over (which did nearly happen)? He writes so much about the emperors accomplishments and then there’s one book that says the complete opposite. I would argue he had the “secret history” in his back pocket in case Justinian was overthrown and his historian was about to have his head on the chopping block.
Doubtful, its pretty much identical to the current state of Europe and the united states, same group of khazar bankers in power now too.

I think back to the morning I watched "Our Subverted History part 1" and I subscribed to this channel long before it was over. The narration, the reasoning, the imagery all described with such eloquence in a tone so soothing, it quieted the barking dog next door. These video-essays have since only increased in quality. I'm so glad I subscribed that morning. The world as it's described in these films is so nuanced. Nobility somehow towers over the corruptive forces that have played and since been ever playing themselves out without the narration or accompanying soundtrack ever needing to change its tone or raise its volume. The words fall upon my mind like soft spring rainfall while the scores underpinning them almost seem to make me feel as if I'm myself taking a gentle stroll over a sort of landscape comprised of history as it happened and though many of the events told of are deeply troubling and evocative of a terrible sense of something special, even priceless that's been almost completely lost to us through the meddling of many of those same corruptive forces and the forced voices of less noble victors, me experience of the essays is still a peaceful and meditative one.
All of this just to say thank you. Thank you for your efforts in creating these beautiful pieces of informative art that's by now brought me and no doubt many others hours of enjoyment and food for thought.
I had no idea that Justinian and his wife were that bad. Even in some pretty right-wing circles, all you hear about Justinian was that he was so badass for taking back some portion of the former Empire.
Well I imagine most have simply never heard of these degenerate accounts of Justinian and his wife. I've only ever heard of Justinian's accomplishments with Belisarius, never about all this evil.
I think he is seen as ancient pagans were seen: Admirable in some aspects, but not enough to emulate them in most of their life.

Yeah, from what I've read they were instrumental on the early transatlantic trade.
And they were instrumental in the Mediterranean trade post-Roman Empire (they may well have been prominent during the empire also, but simply just don't know enough to speak on that), in the Gothic Kingdoms and other Catholic areas, keeping & selling Christian European slaves, and in later centuries also with the southern European coastal slave-raiding trade AND the (South)Eastern European slave raids and trade networks with the Khazars and Turks.
Their merchant networks were not entirely dissimilar to the commercial empires we see today, and this is seldom noted by modern "scholars" who instead cast everything as basically 39-45 lite, but you can surprisingly get a much more honest story if you go straight to the horses mouth.

Thank you for making this. It is eye opening to see a different perspective on history. It is also very inspiring that even if the truth is buried and records are rewritten and destroyed that even a fragment still exists. It is enough to make you question and dig deeper into a subject by sparking your curiosity. Somewhere and somehow, evidence exists of the true nature of events. Reminds me of the Florentine Codex and the spanish colonization of america. Seems like manuscripts do not burn.
Also it is really interesting / disturbing what Procopius wrote about Justinian given how much his generation went through. Not only the wars, famines, and plague but also the volcanic winter of 536 which caused over a year of darkness and crop failures. To live through these disasters you would know how bad things can get. Makes you wonder how evil the rule of Justinian and Theodora was when Procopius decided it was worth potentially risking his life to warn us about it. The man lived through an apocalypse.
We will never get the full story, but thankfully a piece of it exists.
At this point, warning is useless. It's already too late. What we have left of this iteration of society isn't worth salvaging. We need to let it crash, now, because the only way to get back on track to rebuild. The difficulty will be making sure that a certain foreign interest isn't the one rebuilding. It will be a struggle.
