    The biggest problem I've had with SA TRP's is that the Dan Wesson Valor/Specialist is a better gun and a better value for right around the same money.

      Ditto. Specialist is available under 2k and new TRPs are MSRP at 1999. Polymer trigger shoe? Like really? That said I’d buy a TRP for 1200 but no more than that.

      Dan Wesson wasn’t in the evaluation for the fbi contract.
      The Sig was chosen for the military, does that mean it’s better than Glock, Smith, CZ, Beretta…etc? Get a clue rube.

      I love my 2 TRPs but they’re from 2011 or so. Not sure I’m in love with some of the new changes though. I have 2 1911s that are railed, but really haven’t embraced a rail on the design. Don’t know if it’s a must have, as my 1911s aren’t duty guns.

    Awesome review, thanks for taking the time to put it together. It's really cool to see Springfield bring back the TRP in a modernized form and even cooler to see that the guns function properly. Sadly, I can't see myself spending what they're asking for a gun with that much MIM in it. And just to be clear to everyone who might read this, MIM in a gun is fine, MIM in a gun that costs what they're asking for these new TRPs is not.

    • @ericmoss8344

      Inflation is a thing. If they hadn't used MIM parts they could not have brought it to market at this price. Simple economics. It's relatively inexpensive for a non-garbage tier 1911.

    got into 1911s by buying sr1911 ruger commanders. most recent was a officer size ruger. had become familier enough to recognize its failure to feed was caused by a to tight extractor. after a little tweaking ( thanks to internet) its been 100 percent. now im watching people in the know to see if mim parts vs forged machine parts is worth worring about for concealed carriers who dont shoot that much.

    While I would've liked something like a Les Baer, the $3000+ price point wasn't feasible for me, so this was the best option. Being in CA I had to go with that model but at least I got it before that infringement of an 11% sin tax (bad enough with sales tax).

    It is nice to see the return of the bushing. Agreed on the two piece guide rod and grip screws. I wish they would have incorporated the u notch rear big dot front sights already incorporated in other pistols. I'm sorry but front strap checkering is not worth an extra $1000 and still get MIM parts.
    I have a railed earlier version that i made tool less takedown, single side safety and waited to long to buy the 10-8 replacement rear sight.
    PS another point of contention, my Citadel with a new bushing is more accurate than my TRP.

    If you go even further back,
    Springfield offered an original TRP 5” without front cocking serrations and also a 4” TRP Champion
    Single sided safeties and super sexy for what they were
    They also offered the “TRP Package” on customer supplied guns.
    I ended up with a Springfield Hi-Cap that had the TRP package done to it (including the TRP branding on the slide)
    The OG guns are super rare today.

    Great review. I like the looks of the "classic" commander and might have to save up my pennies for one down the road. I have had great luck with Springfield 1911s. Recently found a used (2003 production) Loaded Target that shoots really well - very accurate. It is built on the squared-dust-cover-frame, but that has not been an issue with holsters. My favorite remains the Garrison with its clean slide, good trigger and good accuracy for a decent price. Thanks again.

  • @Nick87899
    @Nick87899 7 месяцев назад

    My favorite 10-8 part is the recoil spring guide rod, I prefer the original solid one with the head truly optimized for proper slide travel, I know there was some feedback that it had slight fitment issues on some guns BUT if the gun was manufactured properly it was a nice snug fit. I have used the new style and it works fine but for me the old one worked great on everything from Springfield, Norinco, Colt etc. the old style’s outer edges lined up perfectly with the frame rails and therefore assisted in keeping the slides recoil spring tunnel hitting consistently on the recoil spring guide head, you won’t notice the benefit on this until it’s too late and you possibly end up with cracks in your dust cover, I’m aware that the issue is primarily a result of the dust cover rubbing on the underside of the slide in recoil but a off centered hit/fit on a recoil spring plug doesn’t help this either it does cause pressure and binding on the dust cover

    First, damn good video. Real testing, love it.
    Nice to know that I paid over $1800 for a brand new thirty year old design TPR full rail a month ago. Well due to the CA roster we won't get the new TRPs anyway I'm pretty sure. I can say this thought. It seems the legacy TRPs that being produced today for CA are getting some if not most of the updated production processes. My brand new black TRP bought a month ago is tighter and more evenly finished than my 6 year old full rail and maybe even my 3 year old stainless TRP. I think the only weak link in the TRP design is the coatings used on the carbon steel guns. Armour coat sucked and I don't think Cerakote is any better. I would really love to see one in an old school blueing but I don't think that works on the MIM parts.

    Great review, but someone at Springfield needs to put the crack pipe down. $2k for a gun loaded with MIM parts? Why not just buy a Garrison for $750.00 (and replace the same MIM parts as in the TRP) for a few hundred bucks? For the approximate cost of a TRP, you can have a Dan Wesson Valor with a better finish… and NO MIM internals.

      I think the Loaded is understated. I mean realistically the only material difference between it and a TRP is front strap checkering, and maybe some of the hand fitment and finish that's put into higher tier models. But when it comes down to the raw function the Loaded has literally everything you need to place a bullet where it's wanted with no frills or extras.

    I wouldn’t spend 2K on a 1911 pistol w mostly MIM internals

    Would like to see a comparison between the Operator that came out a few years ago compared to the TRP operator.

    What thin tan gloves were you using

    How does the 2011 style compare to these 1911s. Are the staccatos worth the extra money. I have a couple loaded operators, but the 2011s have been peaking my interest. I’ve always wanted a TRP though 🤔

    I absolutely hated the 6 o clock hold iron sights on my TRP. Also the safety fell apart after about 10 minutes of using it.

    I already own an Operator from last years production. Is this worth getting? It’s an extra 1000 for what upgrades?

    I fail to understand why people are opposed to mim parts. The majority of modern automotive engines now use mim rods and last for hundreds of thousands of miles.

    Hilton, @10-8 Performance great content.
    Full lower rail ($1999) would be my choice after watching the link in the beginning. Also, in the TRP Operator video you mentioned S/N starting in NM meant more hand fitting. Is that correct?

      Pretty sure it will have the same amount of hand fitting as this TRP, but still more than a normal production model.

    Any idea who makes the mag well for Springfield?

      I see "SA" in the MIM cast but didn't know if they actually make the part or if they out source.

    It seems like the ceracoat is not as durable as the previous counting. I have an older trp and the finish is holding up better than the pistol in this video

    Who at Springfield decided that 1911s should have full-length guide rods?

      The same people that use mim parts. $

      @@HWG-wm8ld I can almost guarantee you an MIM GI guide rod and plug would be cheaper than that 2 piece junk they put in their guns. So you can't even say it's a $ proposition. It's a 'someone in a place to make kinda of important decisions doesn't know wtf they're doing' proposition.

    • @danielhenderson8316
      @danielhenderson8316 7 месяцев назад

      @@HWG-wm8ld I would think the 2 piece guide rod would cost more money than a GI setup. The non railed guns get a Gi guide rod and $100 off. It's just a tacticool upgrade.

    Not a 1911 expert here. Would replacing the guide rod system require fitting of the new parts or would that be a drop in modification?

    • @kuuryotwo5153
      @kuuryotwo5153 7 месяцев назад +1

      No. It's just f***ing annoying that Springfield Armory still installs that hack system in their pistols. The guide rod and recoil spring are among the few components that are easily swapped out with no real fitting.
