I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable."
I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break and build the things I need.
12 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool.
My goal is to learn and share traditional techniques and skills while showing my peers how to get from where they are to where they want to go, how to do the things they are passionate about, and what can be done TODAY to engage their own community and grow deep roots.
Whether it's carving spoons, making my own hand tools, restoring my antique truck or growing heirloom tomatoes, the farm and workshop definitely keep me busy and support - whether financially through Patreon, through shopping my affiliate links, through buying merchandise, plans or project videos, or even just liking, commenting, and sharing my content with others helps me GREATLY to keep producing quality content to share.

These are great tips…specifically for people with ADHD. It has nothing to do with being lazy, and everything to do with being neurodivergent. It’s surreal watching this, is as if I’m watching myself explain all the things I do/have done to try to manage myself in a world that isn’t set up for me, except through the lens of a full fledged farmer. Your first tip about dairy animals getting you up in the morning, I literally got chickens for the same reason, and did not install automated doors, so I had to get up, dressed, and go let them out. Thanks for normalizing the need to for good mental health.

I worked a 40-60 hour/week job, commuting 3 hours/day while developing my 10 acre farm, caring for two horses, 3 dogs, and 5 cats and overseeing my mother's care for her last ten years while dementia engulfed her. I learned to do only what needed to be done, when it needed to be done in the best way to do it. I learned to function on minimal sleep, cook bulk recipes when I had time to cook and I asked for help when I needed it. I'm glad to have that phase of life behind me.

That is wonderful. You are inspiring. I have been trying to prepare a part of my yard about 1250sf for a vegetable garden by fixing up the soil with organic matter and setting up a fence. I care for my home, husband and 4 kids while also working full time. Sometimes I get discouraged but I will persevere. With God's help, I will have my vegetable soon. I have been growing my plants in pots since February and some are starting to flower so I want to transplant maybe this weekend.

The best tip for me is the one about the “minimum viable product.” It can be so easy to get wrapped up in wanting to do something perfectly that it never gets done at all. I constantly need to remind myself that “done but not perfect” is better than not done at all.

I was surprised by what you said about costumes helping us work. It's very true! This is one of those things we always sort of knew that has recently been proven. It helps your mindset and it helps you access associated memories better! You can also use flavors or smells. Leave your chicken books by the chickens for a while, get the smell in the pages, and when you go to your chickens the smell will bring the information you've read closer to the surface.
I learned about that from my psyc 101 teacher, but this stuff comes up a lot in what I'd call 2nd tier magic stuff

I wanted a storage box like hers (looks like a photo storage box) but I'm super cheap and it was too much for me. I went to the thrift store and bought old index card boxes, bill/receipt organizers. I have one for flowers, one for cold season planting and one for summer veggies, each organized alphabetically. It doesn't look as nice though 🤣 Just some other ideas for you to think about!

So many good tips here Anne! There are many more I could add but I'll just focus on the most important ones for you personally. I've been watching every video (fully) that you've made over the past few years and from what I see I must say that you've become a more wholesome person, by doing all this that you mentioned.
I'll point out three things that I think everyone else could also benefit from:
    a) You understand the value of a healthy work-life balance
    b) You're so brave by being vulnerable and open to show your mistakes and "failures"
    c) You actually enjoy the process of "doing chores"
So, just keep going, you're doing GREAT and take it easy dear ♥

Body doubling definitely works but it’s hard to find anyone when I’m out doing farm work. The amount of time and energy I waste walking back and forth must be extraordinary! The times my bf mows lawn for me, I get so much more done just having a partner outside.

The other day I was exhausted in bed at 2pm on Sunday. The previous day I had done 4hrs of yard work in the sun. I told my best friend in another state that I really needed to work on my garden but that I would do 15min outside then come inside for 15 minutes and would go back and forth. I asked her if I could send her pictures of before and after pictures of my yard after each interval. It worked! I did about 3 intervals. One of my boys kind of helped me a little bit and then my husband came to help and we cut down a tree that we didn't need. I was tired but happy that we had advanced.

Living on a farm I’m mainly in charge of and attempting to grow in bad soil (just watched that vid- we’ve not lived here long enough for a big transformation yet) and having to go out to find a FT job wondering how to do it all… this morning I was feeling completely overwhelmed and physically ill. Watching you gives me hope that maybe I can too.

This was amazing and perfect! I exhibit ADHD traits and I’ve never been diagnosed. This video was very validating and a lot of new tools I have started using plus some new ones I have never thought of before. Thank you for this. This is perhaps the most important and valuable gardening video for me so far this year.

Valuable content while tending to your animals and garden was delightful, it kept my focus, and that is no easy feat! If you haven’t already, consider adding miracle worker to your list of trades! Having numerous skills coupled with poor time mgmt has been a life long struggle, and not mastering any of them due to poor time mgmt takes a mental toll, so thank you for sharing!

Thankyou for doing the temperature conversions in the bottom left hand corner, it saved a lot of mental calculation for this Aussie brain. When you talk about planting in late May can you also write late Spring, in the bottom left hand corner too please. That too would save brain strain for your viewers on the other side of the world.

Was just thinking I hadn't seen anything from you in a while. Always great to hear your tips, no matter what they are for. You may call them costumes, but I like to call them uniforms. I have the workshop uniform, the yardwork uniform, the day job IT guy uniform, the band gig uniform, etc. And it does help me get in the right mindset for the task. I listen to music all day long, but I learned several years ago that if I really want to be productive, I listen to jazz. Dunno what it is, but it helps me focus. Good to see you again, hope you are doing well. Thanks for sharing!

Anne, your timing is sooo perfect. I used to facilitate workshops on productivity & profit improvement, consulting & such, so these are all truely old truths I "know" ... but this stage in my life is different from those days. Our fallible humanity makes it so unbelievably easy to get way off track when our routines , environment, careers or households change. When we are misdirecting ourselves, even just one degree & a step off course every day and pretty soon we end up going the wrong direction on a one-way street, in a town two counties over! Anyway, your reminders, unique examples & kind heart was exactly what I needed to hear today. God bless you & all those you love! ❤ Wishing you success in your book & all your courses too.

Hiding the white boards is a great idea. I know that seeing the mass of what's ahead of me expressed like that is a huge stressor, for me. Having it available when I need to check, but not 'in my face' all of the time would probably be a big benefit.

I've been feeling discouraged the past couple days after some small theft on my property and its been hard to find the motivation to keep going.
