This reaction is fresh breathe of air after listening to some else rip into this album for sounding “pretentious” while sounding pretentious and saying it’s a horrible album cause the lyrics don’t make sense and the vocal effect is annoying, like I get others have different music tastes but if he was just gonna rip into even after hearing little snippets of other songs from the album he shouldn’t have been a hypocrite
alright I'm only 46 seconds in and can tell you're a great youtuber, and would like to sub. however you appear to be at 666 subs and I can't bring myself to desecrate that
Fun fact: The first part of The Mind Electric (the reversed part) isn't the exact same as the second part of the song. The most notable differences are that there are no "glitches" (basically the sections that don't go with the song; the repeating "so", the reversed choir, and the repeating words and reversed insane in the court room) and also the bridge is more acoustic and not chiptuned and electronic. And an interesting theory I've seen is that the reversed part is the court room (because you hear voices chattering in the background throughout the reversed part and it being way more tame; getting the name by the community "The tame version") and the second part is the actual electric shock therapy happening (because there's way more "glitches" and electronic sections, especially the bridge; having the community name of "The flashing version"). Also after the second chorus in Time Machine, you can hear something breaking, and some have theorized that this is our protagonist breaking out of the facility. EDIT: Just realized there was another comment talking about this
I know I commented on the Will Wood reactions but it was this video that brought me to your channel!! its just great to see someone else enjoying the album ive loved so much :) I never commented then, but it feels right now that ive rambled on the will wood reactions. anyway im gonna ramble again but yknow its just hawaii part ii is so good man Introduction to the Snow (and also part of DSISM) was recorded outside in the cold which gave joes voice a shakiness. It also (i think unintentionally) seems to sound a bit like "Sexy Sadie" by The Beatles off of The White Album. Isle Unto Thyself dates back to 2006, as a demo titled "Matters", but it was remastered into Isle Unto Thyself (Demo) on Hawaii: Part II: Part ii. Black Rainbows features Madi Diaz, who would later go on to feature on Rob's solo album Not a Trampoline. Something else that absolutely blew my mind was that she was directly featured on the Far Cry 5 soundtrack, on the song "Help Me Faith". White Ball has Zubin Sedghi on vocals, who as you probably know was the bassist & blue tie in tally hall!! all of the members are on hpii except for andrew, he was busy with his own solo album sketches (which got a remaster in 2019 when it was put on streaming, but there are a few bonus tracks not on there). Also, Stephanie Koenig is an actress now! Murders was (potentially) intended for inclusion on Good & Evil, but was cut. The song makes brief reference to the "Erlking", which most likely is a reference to "Erlkönig", a piece by Franz Schubert. Erlkönig is about a father riding home on a horse with his son, who tells his father he sees the erlking. The erlking attempts to lure the child, but ultimately takes him by force, and the child dies by the time the fater reaches home. Not sure what the connection is, but it feels deliberate. Also I literally just found this out, but the ending of the song interpolates "All or Nothing at All" by Frank Sinatra! SSL7 features Bora Karaca on lead vocals, who was a producer on the album, went on tour with Tally Hall on their G&E tour, and worked with them in the production studio! He also worked on basically all of the members' solo projects, and is featured on Joe Hawley Joe Hawley. He also has a band called Cojum Dip, which is "avant-garde jazz-metal", so thats fun. He also played the piano in Murders. The Mind Electric is a song I am *especially* obsessed with, so here goes: The song originated as Inside the Mind of Simon, which was supposed to be on MMMM but was cut because of "too many instruments, not enough time." The song has two parts, with the reversed section actually being different from the second half. The main differences are the exclusion of the sound collage segment, unreversed drums, and no synths in the bridge. Also, the song has a bunch of talking in it, that as far as I know, no one knows anything about? "I too", "besides you think I'm man enough to", "You ought to be ashamed of yourself", "Hopefully they need no power from my mind", and more stuff that's really obscured. Also yes that is ganon laughing from legend of zelda 2. joe likes the game so he sampled it i guess. Speaking of samples, it samples Sunkist Hawaii by the Sam Ku West Harmony Boys & Trinitatis by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Sound Collage segment. It also samples a part of Murders! Labyrinth came to be when making TME (I assume). Demo 4 of TME features an extended bridge with a direct reference to Labyrinth!! Shane Maux seems to have served as reference for the main character of the Labyrinth music video and game (Yes, there is a Labyrinth video game. It's nothing crazy, but its existence is interesting). Also, Shane Maux is in a band called Knock the Vandal, and they are produced by Bora & Ross! Time Machine dates back to 2006, where Tally Hall performed it live, but it was never included on an album until HPII. Rob Cantor sings lead vocals here! Stranded Lullaby was written by Joe for a college girlfriend who was moving away and was originally called "Our Lullabye". The song dates back to 2004, which is before MMMM released. The song's lyrics were changed because joe was "feeling insecure" about the lyrics. An alternate version of the song called Stranded Lullaby "Ghost" exists, and presumably has the original lyrics. Dream Sweet in Sea Major directly references: Introduction to the Snow, Black Rainbows, SSL7, Stranded Lullaby, and VoaC. The song transitions into Variations on a Cloud. VoaC is about 9/11, or at least Joe's feelings about it. The youtube channel tallyball has a pretty cool analysis of the song, but i think its up to interpretation. It had a music video which was taken down, as it featured imagery of the 9/11 attacks... and the people who lost their lives. It is maybe a tough watch, but i found it profound if not well-intentioned. There's also miracle musical's cover of Candle on the Water by Helen Reddy from the movie Pete's Dragon. This was a tribute of sorts to Diem Brown and Trevelyn Grace Campbell, who were Tally Hall fans who had passed away. I tried doing some research and I'm not really sure who they were but the song is definitely a touching tribute regardless. I will, as I think most people would, suggest the Tallies solo albums. Joe has JHJH, Andrew has Sketches 3d (It's released under Edu, which is how Andrew used to pronounce his own name as a kid), Rob has Not a Trampoline, and Bora (kind of) has Cojum Dip (Self-titled album). just remember that the tally hall rabbit hole goes DEEP. (The up to date "All Tally Hall Songs Known To Man" playlist has over *400* songs, but to be fair a good chunk of that is demos and covers) Forgive me for rambling, but I love this album so much lol.
I *LOVE* your reaction to the mind electric. Its been my favourite song for quite some time, and seeing someone else listen to it and just vibe with it is so good. The entire rest of the vid is awesome too! The personable vibe/aesthetic is really good for this kind of video.
Bit late to this but Bora Karaca is a long time friend and a kind of honorary 6th member of Tally Hall! He assisted them a ton on their tours and even was an on stage member during their final tour. He's the third producer of Hawaii: Part II alongside Ross and Joe, and he has his own band called Cojum Dip (I highly recommend it!) Dude is insane, can play every instrument under the sun and last I heard was working as a producer. EDIT: Also Bora plays the piano in Murders :D
I don’t know why, but when I found this video, I got really excited, first, because the review I watched not to long ago on this album just sucked, and this was a really good review. Second, because not a lot of people actually react to this
The reason The Mind Electric is the way it is is its meant to be about a man being tried for the murder of the woman he loves, then being ruled as criminally insane and sent to a mental ward where he’s given shock therapy (basically electrocuting your brain in hopes of getting rid of your delusions) however it doesn’t work and he has goes more and more insane. Further more, the explanation I subscribe to says that the protagonist of the album suffers from schizophrenia which is what leads him to kill the girl This is why the song begins as fully reversed, and even the unreversed track features distortions, reversed chatter in the background, and even reversed words mixed in with the regular words. It’s to highlight the character’s insanity
in fact, in the song Murders explains that a murder killed her and not her lover, at the end of the song says in the lyrics that there was no one else there, then in The Mind Electric he is judged as if he were a murderer
@@Migzenho It says "She found the Elrking (the lover)" The elrking is regarded to be death. so this means that the male lover (i.e. the singer) murdered (hehe, see what i did there) the female
