    If you drive a Kia Niro, let me know what MPG you are getting!

      I drive a 2024 Niro Ex touring and I got 60.6 mpg

      I drive 110 miles per day for my commute.
      I have a 23 Kia Niro Ex [not touring]
      I try to drive between 65-70 mph.
      From November to around January, I averaged 48.5.
      I reset my trip setting, and it averaged to 47.2 from January until April.
      I live in Western NY [Buffalo and commute fo Rochester], so that was some colder days added in there.
      Once it started to stay warmer than 60°, I have been averaging around 54. Some drives, I have seen 60+.
      That 47.2 has now averaged out to 51.4. I am curious to see if the trip says ~53-54 by late August.
      Since my last refuel, it has been 54 ish. [Eco mode]

      2017 EX with Tech package/sunroof I am in MN so in the summer I run about 58-60. Winter 48 maybe?

      Owned one (HEV) for about 8 months now and average between 56 and 61mpg. Frequent trips at 75+mpg

    Bought a 2024 EX model last night. Had about a 50 mile drive home and the gas gauge hasn't moved yet. The screen showed an average of 51.9mpg when I got home.

    Every time I used to drive past San Onofre, I remembered the scene in Naked Gun where Leslie Nielsen said “Everywhere I go, something reminds me of her….” And then they show the domes.

      A friend and I used to meet each other down near the Mexican border on a semi-regular basis. We’d call each other on the cell phones and ask “are you past the two tits yet??”

    The real trick is to run it in sport mode all the way to the gas station and make sure the battery is fully charged before you start your trip. That extra battery power in ECO mode helps get you up to speed in EV mode, and once its on the highway, you can see crazy high gas milage numbers.

    Mileage variance could have also resulted from making more lane changes or preferring the outside lanes on the curves of your route.

    It would get 54 MPG at 62-65 mph

    Maybe it is just me but it seems on this video and past videos your first half on that route is always your worst MPG's and the drive back to that gas station your MPG's improve ? Maybe you can look at your data of past drives and see if that is true. Its possible the drive back overall is not as uphill as it seems to you or the pavement on the road back is smoother and less tire friction?

      @CarDietrich  11 месяцев назад +2

      Very keen eye. So most of the return trip seems to be uphill, but the very last part (typically between my last "update" and returning to the gas station to fill up) seems to be pretty downhill because the estimated MPG does tend to improve quite a bit during that stretch. It's an area I know well since its very close to my home, and it doesn't seem like you're driving downhill when you're going through it, but it seems like it probably is.

    Hey thanks for doing this! Your title states "real world fuel economy test" but you talk about EPA numbers and in the end you surmise it missed it's mark. Had you attempted to replicate the EPA numbers it's likely going to hit the mark. Anyway, thanks again for doing this and those are some crazy good numbers for a crossover. In case you missed it and for anybody else who hasn't seen it Daily Motor did a range test in the SX touring trim at 70 mph and it hit its mark of 45MPG highway. Thumbs up!

    Do you know the EPA test method?
    You didn't knew the basic method of EPA.

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  7 месяцев назад +2

      I'm not testing using the same methods at the EPA, this is a "Real World" test that I have designed to see how close the car gets to its EPA rating.

    I' usually get 45MPG on highway in Poland (86MPH top speed, but I rarely get close to that, trip average is often around 70MPH) in my 2020 model HEV (the previous one).
    I only drive to max speed achievable by ICE alone, when it starts to add the electric motor I let go of the accelerator a bit, so it usually gets to 70MPH. I only go faster when I need to overtake or if its downhill, or I've built up enough battery charge (75% and more - if You build up too much the ICE shuts down, which I view as a waste when the max speed is above 70MPH). That is still insane efficiency by my standards - show me any other crossover/hatch of this size with this fuel economy - diesel cars win the highway efficiency by a bit, but lose the city efficiency by much more.

    Don't epa estimates assume 60 mph for highways?

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  11 месяцев назад +1

      They vary the highway speed. But I do mine in the real world
