Well done. I learned to do breaks in high school auto shop in the 60's, a lost art, replaced by a useless curiculum (crap), a kid will never benefit from in years to come. I am the oldest brother in my family and had the privilege of teaching my brothers. Today, I replace the breaks for my friends and family for the price of a fine cigar. It saves them a ton of money and gets me a cigar once in a while. I have never done a dully and this was a good learning curve for me. Thank you.
Absolutely loved all of your videos! I also have a 1978 Dodge Tioga Camper, with a 360 very similar to your Midas, I have already done much of the same work on mine but the cabin defo needs resealing and work. I agree that you must do your own work and be realistic and squirels just love to camp out under the "dog house" and chew on plug wires!

It's never to late to start learning & doing. I'll be 47 and you've been a big influence for me to start doing repairs on our autos myself this year, between the two older vehicles, utility trailer and motorcycle (all of them are paid off) I've easily saved $500-600 between doing it myself and going through ebay/U pick it junk yard. Not only did gain more satisfaction, but the unexpected part was that the money stayed in my pocket as well, I did not have to keep WORKING harder..faster and longer hours to make MORE money. I call it the "prepper lifestyle", but I give full credit to God for getting me off the tread mill and into a fuller life.
I just got a 77 Compact Mini RV, came with manual. Had to replace right side manifold as well. the illustrations in my manual don't look like my motor, but Yours is exactly like mine! U r my hero!
+Danny Schwarz I never stopped "restoring" the RV, it's just that I don't work on it all the time, I bought it to use. I have a list of things in the spring to do and work on and then I enjoy it with my family in the Summer and use it for hunting in the Fall. Some things I just don't film because it's such a pain in the butt to make vids explaining mechanical work and it takes longer to accomplish the task and then more time goes into editing. Sometimes I just don't feel like doing that, but in this case and other tasks like it....I figure there might be people out there that will find it handy. I could not find any other vid covering Dodge duallys with the Dana 70 on youtube.

I just bought a 97' suburban 4x4 2500 6.5L turbo diesel.... lol. Picking it up next week. Needless to say I am excited to get to working on it. The first task is diagnosing and repairing the issue where the car wont go into 4 wheel drive. All else at this point is apparently working on the vehicle.
+thewakersci I can't say enough how much real world use I have got out of my diesel suburban. It's just a GREAT utility/do all vehicle. Check the front 4x4 actuator for that problem. It's a good place to start and cheap/easy to replace.

I just recently got a GMC class c with rear dualies yup I know it's not a dodge but there are a ton of similarities between the 2, tomorrow morning I have to go see if the rear and front tires are not frozen so yes this video does help me get where I need to go with the gm yes I get parts may not be same but parts are almost identical which helps me understand the job so thanks for the video will chat later and let you know how successful I was

I see we both have the BFH specialty tool, lol. Good to see this was a tactical brake and bearing change with those knee pads. Just refinished the foggy old head lights today on my new old truck, little sandpaper and a can of clear coat spray paint and they're almost good as new. $50 tool box off Craigslist for my zombie apocalypse gear, wait camping and fishing gear and I'm good to go. Nice job brother.
Hey Yankee I know there are a bunch of Internet mechs out there but I had a guy show me one time to take a 1/2 in brass punch and put it on the stud and tap it to release the copper crush washer works like a charm and you don't have to hit the axle housing, not like you can hurt a Dana 70 lol. +wpherigo1 The angle grinder is the BEST tool a man can own next to a big hammer, your will never regret it. So many things you can do with it. HONESTLY....drum brakes are very easy to change out, a couple hours on a sunny afternoon and you save yourself a ton of money.

+Jerry Densmore It was honestly a pretty smooth piece of work and the beer tasted good at the end of it all. The only thing I was worried about was the brake fittings....but this rig has never been driven on salty roads or in the winter and stored dry. That probably really helped, as I was surprised the fittings turned so easy. (I always get new springs, it's so cheap 7 or 10 bucks for both sides) My older brother taught me how to do my first set of drum brakes in his driveway when I was 16 years. I showed up with my brakes scraping the drum....and he took the time to show me how to do it the right way.......it's lasted a LIFE TIME with me.

Nice rig. Hey, I have a 1972 Dodge Champion with 318 and M30 or M300 chassis. Driving it down the road I can hear a "rear-end" noise. Let off the gas or get the gas in just the right position/speed and the noise goes away. After a 30-60 run I can get out and 3 of the 4 rims, brakes, hubs are cool to the touch or not warm at all. The rear right rim and wheel area is hot to where you don't want to leave your hand on it for more than 10sec or so. Sooooo, I'm thinking rear right axle bearing? I'm thinking like a car where the clip has to be taken out of the ring gear in the diff, and then pull axle out etc.... but is it more like what you are doing here? Tks

+pr4runner The Drum Brake was invented by a German named Maybach and has been used in vehicles since the beginning of the 1900's....other than that....your toy doesn't have much in common or anything "identical". Your shoes are probably 10x2's and your rear end is probably good for 2 or 3 thousand pounds. This is the famous DANA 70 rearend MADE IN THE USA and has a 10000 pound rating, Dually, 12x3 1/2 inch brake shoes. There is probably the equivalent in steel in the Dodge Dana 70 alone to make an entire 1985 4 runner.

I just bought the same rv for $100 only mine has 318 in it and no where near the same condition as yours my camper part of it is shot so I am making a ramp truck flat bed car hauler out of it.
Last Sunday I replaced the seal, hardware, drums, and shoes on my 97 F-250. It had a squeaking noise before but it somehow got worse after I did the work. Any idea what it might be? Thanks Yankee.

I have a 1975 Dodge Chinook- getting it totally road worthy finally since I did the timing chain in 2006( got it in 2004).- Life got in the way of things but I stubbornly kept it anyway. I'm 67 now and back on it. Take good care.

Not running garbage tires and carrying a NEW spare negates those problems. Firestone still makes all 16.5 sizes in the Transforce HT radial. No need to drop the coin on new rims.

The 16.5 is "hard to get" if you try and purchase them from Walmart, Costco, or Fleet and Farm, they don't carry them anymore. BUT...I called Tires Plus and Samaritan Tire locally and could get them the same day, Prices where good (Tires Plus had 16 in stock at the local warehouse). Firestone as you mentioned makes a nice 16.5 tire, that is what I put on my rig and some company called SAMPSON makes a 16.5 as well.Ebay has a TON of 16.5 tires that can be delivered to your door. I bought new tires for the rig and have a good spare.
love the vids brother I'm seriously considering a Winnie rebuild tiny house kinda sorta got a 71 with 48k on it lucked out the guy I got it from rebuilt the tranny the brakes and brought the tires up to modernity no split rim waggon wheels here cleaned up the carb and did a rebuild on it the guy I got it from keep trying to get me to buy it I keep my horses at their farm when the shifter when bad on my Honda Forman i was asking him about it and he said he would give me the bago for the Forman I said done that how the lasercarveabago was born well it sat in his barn since 2006 before that barn in Kentucky anyway it wouldn't stay running the weirdest thing I ever seen three diesel mechs clueless to the mopar 413 beasty well I'm from the dirty Detroit how many baby mechanics have been stumped by the ballast resistor the world may never know drove to his place on a Honda drove home in a 71 413 bago 48k miles 173 hrs on the onan oh they run great on propane quiet too
