@@TheRevengingGamer I guess Wall-E has personality function originally when it was designed or prototype. But due to some reasons, BNL disabled it in factory default setting in mass production . However there is a glitch, Wall-E accidentally triggered it and activate its personality function. Wall-E's memory is stored in a device that is independent from its mother board, like hard drive in our computer. Wall-E's motherboard was destroyed in the battle, but its "HDD" survived. After Eve repaired Wall-E by replacing damaged parts, it factory resetted , I think it's actually another Wall-E. At the moment, Wall-E's personality is disabled by default, so it don't load memory sector of its "HDD", cause it shows symptom of amnesia, may be that's also the reason why no music from Wall-E's speaker when Eva try to play Wall-E's recorder, because it's disabled. Then Eva electric shocked Wall-E as farewell, accidentally triggered Wall-E's glitch, activated its personality function, it start to load its (previous Wall-E) memory instantly (I guess it load its memory reverse order of time line), then it identified Eve, Wall-E is back.
I like to think that the Wall-e units had learning algorithms in place to learn about trash and categorize things so they could be better stacked into stronger cubes for stacking and our Wall-e learned so much he became sentient. This shows through in our Wall-e with the fact that he organizes his collection, he was programmed to digitally organize things and now he physically organizes them. This algorithm may also have included parts to identify potentially dangerous things, like flamables that make their way to his lighter collection. As Wall-e got lucky and was not the first to die, he was able to learn how to use totaled Wall-e units to sustain himself, a skill he keeps to this day. As he kept learning more and more and his code strayed further and further from its original state, it may have been lighting or just time that triggered self awareness. Maybe his cockroach, being the only living thing he is known to have ever interacted with before the start of the movie, inspired him. Being alive and not like trash, it may have caused his learnign algorithms to think harder than they were meant to and through contemplating life, Wall-e became alive. Eve has shown several times that her technology can service other electronics around her by providing power. She illuminates the lightbulb she holds, the light string Wall-e puts around her, and activates the electromagnet on the ship that captures her. Maybe their first kiss in space allowed her computer banks to make a back up of Wall-e's sentient form. When she kisses him after repairs, that sentient program, being a more recent instance of the Wall-e program, took priority over the factory settings of the new chip and restored Wall-e. It was literally Eve's love that saved him, a true love's kiss before and after disaster that saved Wall-e.
Given how near magical the tech is, I can see that and appreciate an explanation that is plausible. Although that means Wall-E either wouldn’t remember anything after that, or his memory core is intact and it’s just the personality that Eve saved and uploaded.
Great video, but I believe you're incorrect about the other Wall-E units that they "wore down and broke," because they never broke down or wore out to begin with; they were shut off shortly after humans left earth. When you watch the beginning of the movie and Wall-E is returning home, you see the other Wall-E units holding or loading trash cubes in mid process from their usual routines. Granted they look broke down and worn out in the movie, this because they've been remotely disabled and non-operational for almost 700 years - with only Wall-E salvaging them for spare parts. My idea here is that there had to be some accident with the protagonist; that his communication circuit malfunctioned or was damaged during his time on earth before B&L disabled everything- thus lived on to the time of the movie. As for his personality, this pretty much takes the idea from the 80's film Short Circuit, because Johnny 5 was struck by lightning that gave him personality. And you bring a great point that when he was put back together by Eve, it set Wall-E into a factory-default state and just went on with his programming. When Even came and gave him a "kiss" (the small shock), Wall-E's personality was restored; which could lead to the explanation of how he got his personality. But even with Johnny 5, he had to learn which he quickly evolved his personality for the sake of the movie. It could have taken him decades to possibly figure out, but 80's movies were cut to 1.5 hours max to tell a story. My idea was that within the 700 years of operation, his programming evolved; perhaps by an obstacle that he had to figure out to overcome. Which lead to him building off of what he learned and evolved from there. Something ultra simple like, trying to get across a ditch that he can't roll into, so he might've accidentally knocked over a plank, then realized he can now travel, thus discovering that items can be used as tools. Thanks for reading, and great video!
Interesting premise, but I think we need to look at this from a different perspective. If you look at the movie through the lens of someone who believes in the Pixar Theory, one theme across the entire Pixar Theory is love and humanity can actually be a plausible energy source to bring life. For example, the Toys from Toy Story coming to life after they’re played with. Inside Out gave us the idea that it’s emotions inside that give us life, and we can spread our love and joy to others who haven’t experienced it before (like Cars, or even robots in Wall-E). I believe Wall-E is able to stay around and get energy to stay alive from his love for Humanity. He then is able to spread that life and energy back to the humans on the ship.
One tiny issue with that though, how would that shock have restored WALL-E's memories of the past 700 years plus his time with EVE? His entire motherboard was changed, so whatever remnants of his memories were left on the fried board. So even if the kiss gave him sentience again, he would have still been in the state he was in when he originally developed scenticence. I feel to some degree, it had to have been a glitch that caused it, and for some reason, they had given WALL-E's an adaptive A.I. and a backup storage unit that is not connected to the motherboard. That is really the only way I can think that Wall-e could have become sentient, as he seems to have features that he technically should not have given what he was designed to do. Like a voice box to speak, and a record player.
@@LordDiscord A motherboard is not where the memory is stored. So while Eve replaced a lot of parts, she may have not replaced his harddrive. But as he reboots, he is on default settings, and the kiss is what reconnects him to his memories. All robots we see in this movie have the ability to learn and evolve when given the necessary stimulus (which is almost always WallE).
According to the short book it had been exactly 700 years since humans left This is also stated in the movie and celebrated with the septuacentennial cupcake in a cup early on.
Should we also note that those captains basically served 100 years each, which is BEYOND our average lifespan now? Im starting to think being in an environment with no viruses, illneses or other factors really increase the lifespan
@@holdenmagroin7265 The movie explains that they lost a lot of bone density because of the reduced gravity in space, which is scientifically correct. Astronauts in space do have to work out regularly to prevent bone loss, but they still need time to adapt to the gravity on Earth once they returned.
I also saw somewhere the speed at which axiom travels is high which means that in earth years, the time period involved becomes higher. what I mean is that they live about the same as the humans now, maybe a bit longer but the years in space are shorter than those in earth. but this is a different theory
I started wondering if WALL-E became sentient after a shock, what about large WALL-A robots at the Axiom? They seemed to understand what happened and even waved farewell.
Sentient virus? Or base programming being reactivated. They might have been programmed to be friendly but after however many years stopped and WALL·E reawakens it
0:48 BTW, we actually known exact time Axiom was in space. Wall-e takes place in 2805 (which was revealed in short BUTN-E that takes place duringthe events of the film) and that during events of the movie Axiom had its 700th anniversary of its flight (which was said by the captain). Therefore Axiom has been in space for 700 since 2105. Also, when we briefly list of messages received by the Axiom the first one is from year 2100 meaning that's probably the year their started the cleaning programme. So Wall-e could be between 695 and 705 years old
I'm surprised he will functions properly after 700 years I know he can replace most of his exterior parts but what of internal? ( fans, wires, motherboards, batteries and hydraulic lines/fluid and other fluids
@@theopalangel1342 it's been shown that wall-e has parts in his shed, and he (and eventually eve when wall-e was damaged by auto) replaced a part or 2 or more on himself.
Wall-E gained sentience through his loneliness and learned what he needed to repair himself when needed I guess in a sense he was the first case of naturally made AI, but I just like to think that after years of loneliness he just gained sentience, met Eve and gave her sentience and the two of them fell in love, which I very much enjoy
I'm more likely to believe wall-e didn't developed his curiosity and personality by an electrical shock... My interpretation goes along with the idea he was glitched from factory... That what I find fantastic about wall-e, because it talks about feeling things different than the "default" people. I know it's unreliable to compare with the game, however there, on the 1st level, we see wall-e is already different from the others on 2105... Perhaps he was blessed... and cursed. So he lived centuries of solitude, in a very repetitive routine, until his beloved EV-A came down to his humble destroyed planet.
I wish they would make a Sequel movie or TV series on Wall E. This was one of the best Pixar Films out there. It would be fun to see how Wall E and EVE are doing on Earth along with MO and the other Misfit robots then met on the AXIOM.
nobody wants a reboot... - ofc joke but wall-e is movie that will work that great only one time. i think its better to not even thuink about any sort of part 2/ sequel/ tv show since it can ruined that great movie - everyone would have huge hype and it would end with big "meh"
@@legomasterpl4477exactly. It doesn't need a sequel. I have been planning a ttrpg campaign based off it though...allowing the players to experience the events of what happened in the beginnin (by being those animals the scientists experimented on to see how the genetically modified food would stand up.) there's a lot more in there, I started making it a while ago and just picked it back up lol
My idea is that Wall-e is different, more curious than others and less automatic. On the ship you see others robots being more chaotic and unique which could indicate that a select few of them will deviate from their programming, this deviation becoming stronger over time. This allowed Wall-e to see things differently and his new actions kept him alive. He quickly became able to take parts and repair himself, overriding his programming to turn everything into cubes. This allowed him to repair when needed keeping him operating for such a long time. He also became more aware of the sandstorm, the thing which probably took out the other wall-e robots. Wall-e could deviate from his program and hide from the sandstorm where the others needed to work through it, this blocked their solar panels like in real life and they eventually "starved" while working. Wall-e could of also cleaned his solar panel when needed which is something the others were not programmed with. He can also charge from other means as shown in the movie. Overtime this all led to wall-e being the last robot on earth.
It may have just been that he was programmed with a self learning algorithm and eventually developed sentience as since the robots on the axium are self aware it shows the company had the potential to make them before or when they left earth.
That doesn't sound right if that was the case why didn't he act curious when set to factory default asking "who are you and where am I " instead he goes straight to compact trash and acts like a mindless droid
@@theopalangel1342 An adaptive A.i. would not necessarily mean they would have a personality by default, it just means, they could learn overtime a better and more efficient way to complete their directive. Meaning they would start out in a mindless droid state, and then over time, they would learn better ways to stack trash cubes, faster ways to traverse the landscape ect. So in that instance, "WALL-E" was set in his factory default mode, and did not have any of the things he had learned prior.
I believe Pixar grew heavy inspiration from 1986’s short circuit whenever creating character Wally in that movie short circuit the robot is struck by lightning and becomes Sentient
In the PS2 Wall-E game I played, you played the tutorial as a pristine new Wall-E bot. (With the straight eyes, like Wall-E at the end of the movie). After the tutorial though, there’s a giant stand storm, beginning a level where you race against other Wall-E’s to get to one of the large Wall-E transport truck things. When you reach it, the Wall-E you play as shuts the door, locking the rest outside. Wall-E may have accidentally killed off the rest of his kind.
My personal theory is that Wall-E was used as a test bed for more advanced AI like EVE and MO, which is why he was just another Wall-E when his motherboard (at least I think that's what got replaced) was replaced.
I think that is a bit of a stretch, I mean why would they use only that one WALL-E unit out of all the others to test? Also if WALL-E had a special motherboard to the others, then wouldn't that make their motherboards incompatible with our WALL-E?
*_Maybe wall e has a glitch in his circuits that made him have a personality and get aware of things , in the ending , Eve uses other broken wall e pieces which is not glitched to wall e , making wall e temporarily un-glitched , until wall e`s memory circuit joins to the new pieces and making those pieces glitched again making wall e aware of things again_*
i never knew i needed an analysis of this i never actually thought about the reason behind it however after watching it all makes perfect sense and i'm happy to have watched it :D
Actually i remember reading somewhere that the WALL-E’s were given a shutdown code after BnL discovered that they made life on earth unsustainable, (Yeah That’s what happens if your plan literally involves BURNING ALL THAT JUNK, using Mobile incinerators!) the main reason Our WALL-E (Number 62675) is still around is because he was built with a Defective Comm Unit. And as for why he became sentient, It’s a one-word answer, Time, His programming built a personality over time, which 700 years is enough time for that to occur if it can occur.
That movie might get relevant again in the future - people be like "why didnt they changed something, i mean they knew it was gonna happen" teacher be like "duh"
Maybe he tried and failed I mean it was 700 years at least and with his curiosity and his loneliness it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he tried
I don't think he knows what they are he only sees them as parts or maybe more trash if he knew what they were he probably would of tried to bring them back online
The story of Walle keeping on doing work even after humans are long reminds off a story I recently read that was from 1950 called, There will come soft rains. The story is basically about a house’s super computer that does all it’s daily task for the family he cares for like cooking meals, cleaning, doing laundry, putting the children to bed, feeding the dog and so on. But what the computer doesn’t know is that the family and the entire world were killed during a nuclear war hundreds off years ago and now there’s nothing left, but nature slowly reclaiming the planet, not caring that humanity has gone extinct. Does it sound similair?
I think that kiss was just to restore wall-e's memory, cuz I think eve just had a wall-e_backup_folder in her memory drive. I think wall-e was just lucky and remained the 700 years on earth finishing the work.
That is a really good theory! Hmm maybe some can be explained If you try to play the wall-E game Playstation 2 one But you can also play it on your computer
I love the theory i read on reddit about there being robot uprising and war against robots on earth. And bnl being company trying to save humans in ship to space from war on earth since they knew they lost the war they told the ships to never return, eventualy everyrobot killed humans on earth and they themselves brokedown except wall e, or it didnt, we only see small portion of the planet. Surely wall e is not the last robot on earth. Thats why every robot is sentient in a way.
Well what I think that is human love/relationships made Wall-E sentiant as he watches that VHS tape. This is also shown in toy story as the toys need human love which they take by when humans play with them. And in Monsters Inc they need humans to power their world. Also in cars each car has a back story which relates to real human people. Without humans toys, cars and robots won't be sentiant. I believe when Eva and Wall-E had that electric shock it was actually the love Eva had for Wall-E... which Eva, a sentiant being, learned and feels such as a human does. However your theory does make sense too.
I love this movie so, much!!! Many stories are marked by lightening giving life,(of some form or other). Terminator, Frankenstein, etc. etc. The 'spark' he receives from EVE at the end 'awakens him! This is also, more than just 'sentient' life or another form of electrical fibrillation,(like CPR for the heart), and he is now alive again! His soul! His love for EVE?! Her love for WALL-E :) E.V.E also became sentient after WALL-E taught her. :) Great love, caring and friendship. Love it! Many people,(myself included), have been in coma's and completely forget their entire self and it takes time,(years) to regain or 'get that spark' back of memory that often happens lightening fast!! Helen Keller the blind, deaf, dumb girl who was a hearing infant/child and lost it from an illness, who when she was still a toddler could say "wa-wa" for water. This one word became the connection for Helen later. The teacher,(the miracle worker), get's through teaching her sign language even though she isn't correlating anything yet. Reciting, yet not understanding the connection? One day she just 'get's it'! She feel's the water, pumps the water and say's "wa-wa'. To which the teacher reinforces with a ecstatic "YES"! After that one 'spark' of understanding, it all come's flooding in that all the signs she has learned mean something and are something! She knows!! She now speaks! (I'm condensing) P.S. To me the 'spark' between WALL-E and EVE at the end reminds me of Michelangelo's famous "Creation of Adam" on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel. The hand of man and the hand of God connecting creating life! :) :) :) I would love to see a WALL-E in place of Adam. I have no idea who God could be??? EVE? ?? This start's the ol' brain diggin' deep into that "what is the meaning of life' bit about?! lol ;) XoXo
Actually this is explained through a wall-e graphic novel was released that is called “Wall-E recharge”. Basically Wall-E used to never actually do his job and liked to collect things all the time rather than work. Meanwhile his brothers kept working so much to the point they all began to work themselves to death. Eventually leaving wall-e as the sole surviving unit let off earth and had to fend for himself.
3:04 My theory was that when walle got shocked in space, it copied files over to eve. Then when walle got shocked again, the files were copied to walle hence why he acts so dang shocked when because he remembered being in space when the file transfer occurred.
This might not be cannon to the movie but in the games of walle on pc and Xbox 360 you can find out that sandstorms took out the other Wall-es but walle got in cover in his house while the others were to so slow
Yeah but we don't know what that circuit board was for unless you can confirm what it was for *Edit: I just found that it was his main board and not just a secondary circuit board*
In the PS2 game they show a sandstorm. Wall-E is the only robot smart enough to take a shortcut to their storage (home). That's why he is the only one who survives. But ofcourse Wall-E needed to become "smarter" first. I think your lightning theorie is an good option.
The lighting theory has two holes: 1) Wall-E wouldn't be affected by it simply because of the Faraday cage effect. His metal cassey simply takes all of the current, and the electronics are relatively unaffected. Irl I think the rust would actually explode off. 2) Even if lightning struck the electronics, that is not how electronics or AI works. The electronics can basically just get damaged from lightning and nothing more.
I like to think he was given the shutdown order but either ignored it or didn’t understand. Would explain why the other units stopped where they where, they received the shutdown order than just..stopped

Loved the explaination
@@dearformerself both are great theories good job to both of you.
My theory is all wall E bots got shutdown but protagonist Wall E was struck by lightning and jolted back to life
And he was sentient
According to the short book it had been exactly 700 years since humans left
This is also stated in the movie and celebrated with the septuacentennial cupcake in a cup early on.
Should we also note that those captains basically served 100 years each, which is BEYOND our average lifespan now?
Im starting to think being in an environment with no viruses, illneses or other factors really increase the lifespan
Unfortunately they also lost a lot of bone density because of living in such a sterilized environment. Look at how fat they all are.
I'd rather live with dangers than survive in a sterile existence
I started wondering if WALL-E became sentient after a shock, what about large WALL-A robots at the Axiom? They seemed to understand what happened and even waved farewell.
They probably made a few centuries after humans left the planet on the axiom
Sentient virus? Or base programming being reactivated. They might have been programmed to be friendly but after however many years stopped and WALL·E reawakens it

WALL•E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class)
0:48 BTW, we actually known exact time Axiom was in space. Wall-e takes place in 2805 (which was revealed in short BUTN-E that takes place duringthe events of the film) and that during events of the movie Axiom had its 700th anniversary of its flight (which was said by the captain). Therefore Axiom has been in space for 700 since 2105. Also, when we briefly list of messages received by the Axiom the first one is from year 2100 meaning that's probably the year their started the cleaning programme. So Wall-e could be between 695 and 705 years old
I sort of always thought that the film took place around about 700 years after the message was sent, about 2810 or so, give or take.
The 2nd track of the movie soundtrack is called "2815 ad", here's your date
we're actually explicitly told that the Axiom has been on it's "5-year cruise" for 700 years, because of the "Septuacentenial cupcake in a cup"
Wall-E gained sentience through his loneliness and learned what he needed to repair himself when needed
I guess in a sense he was the first case of naturally made AI, but I just like to think that after years of loneliness he just gained sentience, met Eve and gave her sentience and the two of them fell in love, which I very much enjoy
Yep, I've been thinking the same. And it makes much more sense.

I think the "sandstorms" got to the other robots but his "faulty" personality made him want self preservation so he saved himself
I remember when I was a child watching this and I cry 🥲
like I’m very sad because the ending tho... and happy at the same time❤️
My idea is that Wall-e is different, more curious than others and less automatic.
I like that he steals body parts from other dead robots to replace his own
I agree with this theory. Wall-e became self aware....somehow. Through this he was able to keep himself functional.
The part where he gets his personality/sentience seem like something that happened in short circut
Underrated movie, really wish they made more movies like this
Wall- E is a kind of movie which makes u cry ❤️
I believe Pixar grew heavy inspiration from 1986’s short circuit whenever creating character Wally in that movie short circuit the robot is struck by lightning and becomes Sentient
Well there could be more of them around the world...
Yes... i mean, the earth is huge! And they would of been deploying EVE probes on earth for 700 years.
No, the robots broken down because they were not sentient so they do not know how take care of themselves.
God, I need to rewatch this movie. It's just too good to be sleep on it.
1:39 battery gets recharged
oooh didn't notice
What I hope for is a sequel
Maybe in the area 51 raid (September 20) we will find the sequel

Thank you Ruben Roque, glad you like it!
I remember when i was 4 or 5 that i used binoculars to look like WALL-E xD
OMG Bryce I love that movie too, I've seen it so many times. Awesome video bro♥♥
Simple strait to the point and explained perfectly. Thumbs up man
Thank you!
The big question is, if wall e had extra parts to fix himself, why didn’t he use some of those extra parts to help/fix his dead wall e friends?
Maybe he tried and failed I mean it was 700 years at least and with his curiosity and his loneliness it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he tried

Wall-e was my movie, I loved it and I still do
I think that kiss was just to restore wall-e's memory, cuz I think eve just had a wall-e_backup_folder in her memory drive.
I think wall-e was just lucky and remained the 700 years on earth finishing the work.
That is a really good theory!
Hmm maybe some can be explained
If you try to play the wall-E game

But you can also play it on your computer
WallE: improvise, adapt, overcome
I love the theory i read on reddit about there being robot uprising and war against robots on earth. And bnl being company trying to save humans in ship to space from war on earth since they knew they lost the war they told the ships to never return, eventualy everyrobot killed humans on earth and they themselves brokedown except wall e, or it didnt, we only see small portion of the planet. Surely wall e is not the last robot on earth. Thats why every robot is sentient in a way.
Wall-E remind me of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit
Omg..I can’t even imagine how wall-e was so lonely..no winder why he wanted a girl friend
(I'm condensing)
P.S. EVE? ?? This start's the ol' brain diggin' deep into that "what is the meaning of life' bit about?! lol ;) XoXo
*So basically we don't need a prequel to Wall-E's sentience. We already have the movie Short Circuit.*

If u want another wall e video search up film theory, wall e dark secret
This actually makes sense
Awesome to hear!
I dont think Wall-e is THE last robot but the last one in his area, sure. Wall-e also seems to have taken to keep a stock of spare parts for himself.
I love how you put spoiler alert

In the PS2 game they show a sandstorm. Wall-E is the only robot smart enough to take a shortcut to their storage (home). That's why he is the only one who survives. But ofcourse Wall-E needed to become "smarter" first. I think your lightning theorie is an good option.
I want a wall-e 2!
It’s funny how a theory about a movie could explain a plot for another movie, Short Circuit.
My question is why couldn't they use Wall-As on Earth? It would be MUCH faster and more convenient, and maybe even change history
Walle is number 5 confirmed. Both have like heads and eyes both run on tracks and both have have 3 fingered hands
Look at the dates for each captain, each one served at least 100 years, how long do humans live at that point
