My wife and I had a few theories about this one. We think his friend got him out there to kill him because he knew about his past but couldn't go through with it. 2. The movie was basically showing a fantastical magical scenario where he got exactly what he wanted. It was like a magical scenario but based in realism. Just some food for thought. Very subtle like a what if you got everything you wanted scenario but it had a price. Hence why he didn't get caught by either the authorities or the people working for the corp.
That's what I was thinking! He invited him out there as the "ingredient" but he couldn't go through with it. I thought he also thought about using the girl as an ingredient, but he took her back to the hotel. He couldn't do it anymore.
I watched this! I loved it!!! My opinion on why he was so calm is because he's already dealt with loan sharks and scary people that are willing to kill. He knew the danger, but also knew he had to hide his anxiety.
Ryan never struck me as anyone who could be a world-class chef. He didn’t seem confident, and if he were as good as those guests made him out to be, surely he’d have found better work than “line chef at a chain hotel in Texas,” especially with his gambling debts. Like the rest of this flick, Ryan needed more fleshing out; the writing just isn’t good enough.
One of the most underrated horror flicks of 2024 so far! I think the same rich psycho types who would be members of this elite international dining club...might also be the same kind of rich psychos to wreak havoc on the Infinity Pool island?
I enjoyed the film but I thought the British woman would have known for sure what jack looks like and would have been tipped off immediately when he didn't seem to know anything about what was asked of him. Also in that I think he should have just come out with the fact that Jack actually killed himself and he is also a chef and wants to offer his services.
@sinistercinemareviews5420 yeah same, it didn't make me dislike the film but just seemed like sloppy writing. I think like you guys were saying I can see a service like this existing. It's a crazy world out there especially at the extremes both top and bottom.
Yeah I thought that too, but also thought that there must be a balance between how secretive the "Corporation" must be and how much they can reveal about their employees to other employees. I guessed that the "Corporation" knew the real Jack was dead due to the GPS thing and possibly saw the whole thing via surveillance camera, but figured the risk was worth taking by betting on the fake Jack .
About him picking the girl instead of the older woman, Maurice does mention the old woman would taste bad and thus he says the girl then just like cooks may do in picking cows or lambs. Whatever would make a better meal. Not that this absolves him but at this point he already knoww he will die if he doesnt make a good meal This reminded me of Fresh. Different stories but feels like they could be in the same world. Like both working for the same organization
No doubt! Rich people are so bored! They've done everything there is to do, been everywhere there is to go, so they start looking for darker, crazier shit!
Thanks for doing spoiler discussion, more spoiler talk please. I'll never understand spoiler free talk, just recommend it or don't, but whatever works for ya.
I just finished watching this and found your review! The reason fake Jack said just take the girl was because Maurice said the old woman wouldn't taste good.
A character is mentioned in a faked email to have gone to Bogota, but it was never mentioned exactly where in Latin America they were. Presumably she put “Bogota” in the email because it’s a large, sprawling capital city AND it’s likely very far away from where Jose (and his Uncle) live.
I agree with most of what you guys said except I see Nick Stahl’s character eventually giving into his ego after doing this for a few years. From the time of putting his food against his friend in a taste test with Alice to being the new sought after chef in Imogene’s emails after only his first table, I could see him accepting this is his life now. Dare I say he’s even got a shot with Imogene.
Just watched this today. A few plot holes really bothered me. What are the odds that Imogene wouldn't have worked with the real Jack in the past? Also, why would the corporation risk harvesting people from small towns, rather than scooping up solo tourists like Alice who wouldn't be missed for ages? It's ridiculous that 2 people every nine months could disappear from a village that small, without a huge uproar. Setting those things aside, it was an interesting if predictable film.
I like how they establish early on that Nick Stahl's character is questionable with his morals and ethics. He's also not a great liar yet strangely always "gambling" on so much possibly going his way. In is strange way it does and it doesn't.
2:22 Deciding to choose the younger woman I saw as protecting his cover, like how he was pretending to be an architect, he was choosing what he thought "Maurice" wanted to hear, a younger woman would taste better.
i liked it a lot, one thing is looking like a sore, all that dinner experience feels a bit cheap, considering the price people pay for it - table setting, guests are too crowded next to each other, just service in general, seems like nothing special, good resort style also, the girl from team, imogene, clearly said - we are working together your next gig, so is there more teams like hers, who actually know, how the real jack look like? there was some color coded evolution in him - his first night in villa he is in bedroom with green walls sitting on a side of the bed like a visitor, at the end he is in other bedroom, centered position, with clay color walls, looking collected, rooted
8:10 You're still taking life when you eat plants too, just because you can't hear them scream, doesn't mean you're not killing them. Monocrop agriculture kills entire ecosystems... Life feeds on life, this is necessary.
Still not the same! Come on! Jose had a life, a wife, a newborn! It's a horrible, inhumane and disgusting thing to do. I guarantee u that if any of those rich losers were on the menu, they would not be as enthusiastic.

I actually also thought about the friend bringing him out there to kill him. I totally forgot to mention it. I’m glad you reminded me. I agree.
@@sinistercinemareviews5420 what are your thoughts on subtle magic angle?
That's what I was thinking! He invited him out there as the "ingredient" but he couldn't go through with it. I thought he also thought about using the girl as an ingredient, but he took her back to the hotel. He couldn't do it anymore.
@@Slashhappycinema what magic angle?
He did get caught by the corp. They put a GPS chip in his neck. He will never escape them.

Yup

Thanks for this rec, great hidden gem. I’m a big Nick Stahl fan since Bully, this was a nice surprise.
You’re welcome
One of the best thriller ive seen in a long time. Thanks for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!

And the hostel films
Saw it last night. Went in cold. Excellent
Definitely an overlooked one from this year

I just accepted that part

Fresh spin off
All these themes/stories always make me think of the story “The Most Dangerous Game”. How unchecked ambition can the end of you.
Yeah
I agree with Kali that there are definitely people that actually do this.
No doubt! Rich people are so bored! They've done everything there is to do, been everywhere there is to go, so they start looking for darker, crazier shit!
Amazing film!

I loved it! The South American country location is Colombia.
Glad you loved it too

I just saw the film and it is disturbing. 😵💫

They’d be perfect for each other

Ans: not sure, but the actress who played brain dr. on Dexter show & the deva devil in bedazzled is in it , & rather young.
😅 I just walked right into this one blind just now!

Makes sense
I just watched "Stevie" on Tubi; very suspenseful, but I won't give away anything.
From 2008?
Ok I just finished... I loved it.
Oh good
careful what you wish for

We talk about this here and there. She wants to be a vegan and I have no objections
