Reminds me of a "Thunder Over Michigan" show I was at around 2007. A P-47 was making a mock strafing run on some reenactor German troops. The announcer kept yelling "jabos, jabos!" over the extra loud loudspeaker. I just wanted to hear the damned plane make its run, not a DJ beating his gums.
750 gallons!!? 😂. …about 197 gallons. “Super-Mooney Spitfires”?? 😂 “The F4G Corsair,” it sounded like the announcer said. I think he meant FG-1 Corsair.
The Vought PR department called the Corsair "Whistling Death". The Japanese called it the "Sikorsky" from the company's name "Vought-Sikorsky" which was in use 1939-1942.
Didn't the Japanese call the RAF Beaufighter " Whispering death" as the Bristol sleeve valve engines were so quiet and the plane packed a heavy cannon punch.
The two issues causing the US navy to initially reject the Corsair were poor landing characteristics (it tended to bounce) and poor stall characteristics (it would drop a wing). With the Hellcat already in service with neither vice, they passed on it and gave the Corsair to the Marines who would be operating from land. Vought is the one that fixed both, not the Brits. They had to clip the wings to fit in British carriers which helped but did not eliminate the stall problem. If you watch video of the plane on British carriers you see them having issues with the plane bouncing over the wires from time to time. Vought placed airflow spoilers to fix the stall and re-engineered the landing gear to significantly reduce bounce.
@@JimNaylor the royal navy DID NOT SORT OUT THE ISSUES with the Corsair, I know the Brits like to take the lime light on everything and toot their own horns, the only thing the Brits did was find a better way to land it on an aircraft carrier, we Americans were already using in the Pacific from land bases, so stop trying to take credit for everything.
it whistles in a high-speed dive, which is a pretty dangerous thing to do close to the ground over a high concentration of people. Not safe to do in an airshow.
Wow, there's some inaccurate information at the beginning. The Malcolm Hood canopy was introduced BEFORE the British received their first shipment of Corsairs.
well he was nice enough a couple of passes to shut up so you can hear the plane. But honestly, most people dont know a thing about the planes so, i can understand the need

Real funky coincidence, currently assembling the Revell 1/72 Corsair kit as a warm-up to the 1/48 Academy A-10 Warthog one and look at the thumbnail.
Cool! I built an F4U Corsair model when I was younger. A really cool airplane.
LOVE the Corsair.
My favorite fighter aircraft of WWII.
I was a kid when the tv series Baa Baa Black sheep was on. Loved the show and fell in love with the Corsair.
Gorgeous old fighter
Okay Video. Take Out The Jibber Jabber & It Would've Been A Great Video. Thank You. (Like #341 - Comment #39)

Thanks for that!!
It's not powered by a motor.
It is powered by an ENGINE.
A motor consumes power, an ENGINE produces that power.
Magnificent aircraft
Hit show in 70s ba ba blacksheep
Wow!
Was this air show in Grand Junction? The mountain behind looks like Mt Garfield.
Yes

It was the Royal Navy that sorted out the Corsair issues, not the RAF.
Yeah he said that in the video, he clearly said that!!!

Stuart style wings
the goodyear air craft company made it!
Chance vaught made them first Goodyear came in way later
Goodyear made most of the -1s (3 blade props) and Vought made all of the others (4 blade props) as well as 2800 of the -1s. Vought was the designer.
My dad trained in them at Corpus Christi
Couldn't hear the supercharger at all

@@ThomasHendrickson Does it compare to the sound of a P-51's gun barrels ???
@@LICobra no idea
It's hidden by the announcer's idiotic comments.
Does anybody know where this air show is?
Grand junction colorado
@DESTINYFPV thanks buddy
@@bryantreser8686 you are welcome
I thought the show was called "Baa Baa Black Sheep" when did they change the name????
second season they changed it to Black Sheep Squadron
They did change it. My father flew the dc-3 on the show. The airport in this video is my old hometown.
Yes. That was my question as well.
@@EzraStyles-b6nThink they kept the intro song, though, yes? "We are poor little lambs, who have lost our way... bahh bahh bahh."

It wasn't even a "Malcolm hood" on the Corsair. The Malcom hood was on P-51B's and P-47's Originally it was made for the Spitfire.
How annoying, the announcer babbling on while the plane is flying by…people want to hear the airplane, not you!
Dead right! Where do they dig these commentators up?
They must be hiring football commentators these days.
