Three Greatest Fighters To Ever Live 1. "Sugar" Ray Robinson(The GOAT) 2. "Homicide Hank" Henry Armstrong(The Greatest Small Fighter To Ever Live) 3. "The Brown Bomber" Joe Louis( Longest Title Reign In Boxing History)
Joe's subtle crouching to his right, and stepping forward slightly to his left with his lead foot prior to throwing his punch, have added extra leverage and power to his right cross.
Thank you. I used to go to the public library to look at a book to see STILL photos of the great Louis in action. Being able to watch this now is priceless.
skill wise? joe louis was the most artistic fighter watching louis box was like watching Picasso paint the way he kept his head off center when he jabbed the his sense of distance and bout progression the timing of his punches and his accuracy it was all there he was the perfect text book fighter looking at him was looking at the perfect boxer power speed and defense ive watched some of sams fights he no joe
My favorite combo of all time is the Joe Louis right uppercut to left hook. The opponent’s head is just served up on a tee for that left. If I get in another fight before I get too old I’ll be looking to land that lol
@@heisensperg9264 In 1977, my son Frankie (Fernie) Baltazar, the late trainer, Johnny Flores, and I left Los Angeles to go to Miami Beach, Florida. Frankie was fighting Francisco Villegas on Don King’s and ABC's TV Network U.S. A. Tournament. Larry Holmes vs Stan Ward was to be the main event. That was the week when the scandal about fixing boxing records broke. It was a bittersweet experience for me because I saw Joe Louis working for Don King. Louis was assigned by King to be our chauffeur. But I did get to meet the greatest heavyweight champion of all time. Louis was supposed to drive us wherever we needed to go. But, I was not about to let the great Joe Louis, drive us around; Joe and Johnny Flores were old army buddies from their WWII days. So I took the wheel and had them sit in the back of the car and while they reminisce about their days in the army. I drove them around for four days. I found Louis to be a humble, and quiet man. Getting a word out of him was like pulling teeth. After the scandal broke the Larry Holmes/Stan Ward fight was cancel, but Frankie did fight Villegas and won by unanimous decision.
@@kikibalt 👍 that's a great story, you were very lucky to meet the brown bomber! Thanks for the reply. Does your son have any fights here on RUclips? I might check them out.
@@kikibalt If you're still on the account please reach back. I'm in Miami, Fl across the ridge from Miami Beach- as you know. I'm in Liberty City. I'm an army vet, in my mid 20s, combat MOS and a deployment when I served. Been home for a few years now and always wanted to get into boxing- not as a hobby, but professionally as a fighter. I'm out of shape now, I want a good trainer. If you still have your connections to the Boxing world, or any trainers, can you reach out to them for me?
then just watch him fight he barley got hit max was the only one to ever notice Louises left hand drops low when he throws a jab something Louis instantly fixed so that when they met again Louis knocked him out, in the first round Louis did something called box yet he was able to knock the fuck out of his opponents and that is why he is one of the greatest boxers if not the greatest boxer ever
Jeau Pound 4 Pound SRR is the greatest boxer of all times, but Joe Louis is without a doubt the greatest HW of all boxers, Sam Langford was pretty good but he didn't take the chances that Jack Johnson did he let those around him fill his head up with that "I don't wanna fight Sam" BS, not saying he wasn't great but he could have did more than what he done, taking all them less paydays not rising to the occasion like he should have Jack wasn't going for that shit, he chased down every white fighter that was ducking him and he became the 1st black heavyweight champion not to mention a very good payday like the Jefferies fight he was paid over a $100,000 in the bout. Sam Langford, Joe Gans, Jack Johnson were all great fighters but Joe Louis is the best.
It's his form. He's almost never out of position. Look at some other greats like Foreman. Foreman is great - hits like a mac truck; but in his young days he would swing and throw himself off balance. Ali was out of this world - his footwork and head movement could put him out of range of danger. But sometimes that same footwork would cut off his avenues of attack. Hard to throw a right uppercut when you're backing up and it's too far from the opponent. Joe Louis on the other hand, throws textbook perfect crosses - straight out the pictures of a magazine. He never throws himself too off balance yet generates enough 'oomph' to sink his opponent. He's a 'technically' perfect fighter. He's the orthodox of the orthodoxes. The posterboy of traditional boxing. All of the greats figured out how to solve their flaws somehow - Foreman learned how to block long and cut off the ring so that his swings would connect more often. Ali perfected his form of counterpunching and using straight rights on incoming enemies. Louis didn't need to invent those - his technically sound and perfect form allowed him full range of all his best weapons. His best one being that dangerous straight right. You don't hold onto the belt for 12 years without having strong fundamentals. Joe Louis WAS the fundamentals at their highest form.

You gotta put Sam Langford, Harry Greb, Ezzard Charles and Gene Tunney up there as well.

That's amazing. Heard he was a very calm, quiet person. What was the occasion?
I know this is an old comment but if you're still using this account could you say what it was like to be with the great brown bomber?

I really dont see what makes Joe such an artist in comparison with other great boxers. At least not in this vid.
