I just landed a knockoff Darth Maul! Everything you mentioned! And the lightsabers have bubbles in the too....lolololol $20.00...not a great loss!! Poor packing too!!! great post, thaks again..
Thanks Scot. I think it’s good to share or remind people when going to buy that it’s the real deal or you at least know and are Okay with a knock off. Thank you for watching.
I have the ko maul. I like it. It looks good on the shelf. Ive also got a few ko clones and a sand trooper in the background. I see it as a cheap way to army build
If it doesn’t have the name of the company that made it it’s a knock off. If the promo pics on the back look faded it’s a knock off. If it’s on eBay and says made in China it’s a knock off. Keep in mind they done always list that it’s made in China. Be careful. There are some good knock offs and I buy some to customize.
I accidentally bought a bootleg stormtrooper, so I decided to put him far back behind my legit troopers to make it look like a squad. Looks decent like that
Those KO Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers are great for army building for backgrounds in photography or as donor figures for customs. BUT.... yeah, too easy to be fooled when you ARE looking for a legit figure.
A few years back to when I started collecting Black series I wanted Darth Maul. I bought what i thought was the right one and when it came in the post the plastic was cheap and the Label on the bottom said Sandtrooper 😂
I was scared to watch this video at first but I had to confirm it. I bought a knock off Darth Maul. 🤦♂️ I will admit though, for $20, it’s not bad for a knock off in terms of quality. 🤷 I probably wouldn’t buy something like this again...unless it’s something I really wanted but couldn’t afford the real thing. 😏 Thanks for this video. It was very helpful. I’m learning a lot from you as my collecting obsession continues to grow! 😄
Hey Brian-I’m glad this video was beneficial for you. I’m like sharing my passion for collecting and any tips or tricks I’ve learned over the past couple decades. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. Thanks again for watching the channel.
i'm in a similar predicament. i bought a darth maul off someone but paid for the real one. i don't mind having a knock off, but i do mind paying 60 bucks for a fake. i should have done my research
You could also do what the Transformers community did years ago and embrace the bootlegs. We call them "Third Party" and the quality is surprisingly good on some of them.
Third Party are not Bootlegs, KOs are. Original designs do not count as bootlegs, otherwise they would have been shut down. The companies that have had legal action taken are companies that actually take existing figures and either copy them completely, fix their issues, or make them larger. Companies such as Fans Toys and X-Transbots make only original molds, unlike Takasa Tony, which are direct KOs. Intellectual property is not the same as a physical figure.
I know. I have the KO of Unique Toys Megatron. The reason I picked up the KO on that particular figure was the Unique Toys release was too big for my collection and the fourth party KO was down sized. Not many KOs from third party designs though.
The only thing different with my KO of Boba Fett are that the buttons on his wrist weapons are not painted. Toy Galaxy had done a How to spot a Bootleg Fett video a few years ago that clued me in to mine. Thanks for the video. I've got much better at avoiding Bootlegs in recent years.
I'm from the Philippines, I saw a cheap Bespin Escape Leia Black Series, still in box, from a Chinese seller. I wonder if that figure also has knock offs nowadays. The seller also has a cheap 6" ESB Vader in vintage Kenner card, I'm wondering if they can now do knock-offs in that packaging. What's odd is the card has the classic ESB logo on it but on Vader's picture, his tunic is on top of his shoulder armor which means it's an ANH photo. The figure also has the tunic over the shoulder armor but the green button on his chest panel is painted blue (which is correct if it's an ESB figure). Anyway, I'm tempted to buy the Leia and Vader since those figures are rare now in my country.
I’ve got a Blue Series Knockoff Sandtrooper. Dot in the upper right corner of the “T”. Don’t see many other examples. Luckily was able to secure a Legit version for my collection.
Fake Boba (loose figure): 1. Back of ankle hinge not painted 2.cape not 2 tone (not incl. stripe) 3.part of belt underneath cape not painted 4.silver weathering placement on jetpack is wrong
Roflmao fricken Star Waps made me spit up my coffee. Thanks for the tips. You should do a show on most underrated Marvel Legend BaF's or DC CNC. I could totally see Lobo and Man-Thing on top of that list.
Thanks Joshua for watching the video. I got a kick out of that one too. Happy to share any tips I’ve learned along the way. I’ll certainly add your requests to my hit list.
I remember a couple years ago buying knock off boba and maul because I refuse to buy resale prices eventually I bought the archive version of both figures
Ahhhhh this made me check the Darth Maul I just ordered on ebay from a seller that was local to me, but wouldn't allow for pickup. Now i know why. Still waiting for it to arrive in the mail but right off the bat, the binoculars are upside down. So long $75 CAD, it was nice knowing you......
@@Nerdzoic I somehow managed to find a local toy shop nearby that had 3 brand new Archive Mauls in stock, so I picked one up to keep in box. Will open the fake orange line maul when it comes. I hear they still look darn cool!
I got a fake maul. Proof of purchase says sandtooper. A fake sandtrooper. Box says star wals. And a fake boba fett. No recycle triangles. They will suffice lol
I’m glad the video was beneficial for you! I think it’s definitely important to know whether it’s something you’re fine with owning or only want the official licensed figures.
Why don’t you actually start comparing official black series figures compared to the knockoffs 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ as I would really like to see the comparison of boba fet
Thanks for making the Video Nerdy, after watching I went and had a look at my black series, and low and behold my blue line Darth is a knock off and I hadn't even realised. I'm now in the process of getting a authentic one.
A year ago I bought a Darth Maul for $40...it was authentic...a week after I ordered it the price was back at around $75...it was from the UK...a lot of times if some shop or whatever gets a handful of real ones, the first couple sell for a good price, then once they go, the price goes back up...I ended up getting 2 archive wave Darth Mauls as well...have one if anyone needs one...$25
lol. Price, low feedback, China. Some KOs are excellent...like in Transformers. Many are Exact replicas box-wise now a days and/or the figures are great and a cheap alternative for display or play. Price.....sure dictates what many collectors do. A Direct comparison of the better/higher end KOs with the so-called real thing....would be a good thing
does the recycle triangle can change its location in the box in two samples of the same figure? i found a general grievous D1 figure, and it has a diferent triangle location compared with 9 of 10 pictures of the figure that i found on internet (including reviews) maybe its a stupid question but i really dont want a bootleg on my collection :s
I have a question if anyone can help - recently bought a blue line Darth Vader off ebay for £25 - I like to keep it in the box so cant really check the feet. But the box itself looks ok however the underside by the Barcode has no name at all, just the barcode - is that still legit or do all the Vaders have "Darth Vader" by the bar code?
Question; Looking back at exclusives and deluxe sets; did Hasbro/Disney always have one set way to put the figure in the box? Prime example being Star Wars Black Series Luke Skywalker and Wampa. I see on original release that Luke has one arm dangling and the other is reaching for his lightsaber. I also see tons of the "same" figure with both of Luke's arms dangling above his head- and Wampas coloration is slightly different. Are both real and just a different release/orgin or is the latter a fake? Example two- Star Wars Black Series Han Solo and Tauntaun; ones font is slightly smaller/the other is larger, the Tauntaun looks different with different colored horns and facial features, Hans jacket is slightly different. Both versions seen on credible sites.... So im confused about this because are variations like this normal based on the wave they were released? Or is there a legit way to determine if deluxe figures are real or fake?
I bought an orange line Anakin and was concerned because where his name is supposed to be they put a sticker over it that says his name and a big sticker on the back which covers the art and says "this premiere action figure is made with exquisite detail. but i watch this video and those 2 things i mentioned were the only flags for me personally what do you think Nerdzoic?
I recently bought a 6” Lando off of Ebay and the lettering on the Star Wars logo is different than on my other black series figures, it’s a light grey instead of white. Does this mean it’s definitely a fake? I’m pretty new to this so any help would be appreciated!
Like @shortforatrooper said, there are no known KO Lando’s. You’re safe. They just changed the logo up-I believe. Check against a picture of one on actionfigure411.com.

Can anyone tell me what the Luke skywalker from besping #11 bootleg vs the real thing? I got one from collectors store in a mall but after seeing other pictures some have the gun facing different ways or the hands turned differently? Is this normal? It has the recylce symbol and all stuff that pass for legitness but I see some with guns turned one way and the hand positioning
