    thank you Greg for all your good work I was there with you in the beginning helping our fellow North Carolinians. I think it's been a 130 days more or less that I've been living in my car. no help from FEMA they call from time to time but always tell me they need more information. I'm out of information I've given all I can. we are fighting through all this and one day it will be over.

    Thanks so much, Greg! I’m Comm, ME land certificates, but haven’t flown in a long time so I’ve been careful not to state an opinion. Also at play is the CRJ also made the hard left to switch from 1 to 33. When I was flying with a maintain visual separation clearance, if ATC came back to ask again if I had traffic in sight, that was an alert that I was doing something that made it seem I didn’t. I obviously have an opinion, but I think more will come out with NTSB (already is). Altimeter settings, avionics, etc. I think it’s good that those in aviation speak out and those that state, as you did, that they can’t say for sure right now are the ones to listen to. News media have never been very good at reporting on aviation issues because, thankfully, these types of things don’t happen that often. Prayers to the families and to the ATC folk - it’s devastating to them. We may find out differently, but accidents do happen 😢

    Thanks for speaking to this and not declaring fault. As pilots we are all affected by this accident. It’s good to hear today that the hello route crossing the approach path has been closed permanently. There are so many factors any of which contributed to this. I hope there is transparency once the investigation is complete.

    Important to note is landing and departing traffic was using runway 01. I'm sure PAT25 was aware of this since both A/C were listening to Reagan tower, albeit on different frequencies. Perceiving tight spacing ATC asked Bluestreak if they could accept runway 33 instead of 01. Bluestreak advised they could accept 33 and ATC cleared them to land on 33. In order to land on runway 33 Bluestreak had to make a small turn to the right followed by a small turn to the left to get lined up on runway 33. This put them directly over the route PAT25 was using. Since they were cleared to land, they were focused on landing on a shorter runway and correctly assumed the airspace they were flying in was safe. They actually were within about 15 seconds from touching down. Pat 25 would have been able to hear ATC asking Bluestreak if they could accept runway 33 but would not have heard their response since they were on a different frequency. At this point PAT25 had the opportunity to anticipate Bluestreak's flightpath and take appropriate measures. Pilots don't typically pay attention to their radios until they hear their callsign. At this point it appears PAT25 assumed all traffic ahead was in front of them and to their right and mistakenly advised ATC they had Bluestreak insight when in fact it was another CRJ. They had no idea Bluestreak was descending and approaching from their left to land on runway 33. In a perfect world ATC should have advised a left turn vector to PAT25 to ensure separation. But it appears he was busy handling 2 positions at the time of the midair. Another issue is PAT25 appears higher than the 200-foot restriction for their position in their route. That is a pretty narrow gap to fly in especially if it is windy which I understand it was that night. Honestly, I put the overall blame on the FAA for this. Their role is to provide leadership in planning and developing a safe and efficient national airport system to satisfy the needs of aviation interests of the United States. Like most government organizations they lack the ability to manage and efficiently maintain ATC system. They are like a large corporation where no one is responsible or accountable. Shame on them!

    He was above the range . The ATC moved him the American Airlines flight to runway 33 last min on short final. Absolutely no reason for it! Every plane that came in hit Runway 1 ! They pretty much hit head on ! The helo blades scalped into the fuselage of the AA flight . They didn’t know what hit them . Only 200 yards from foot of the runway! ATC made a huge mistake
    Dude to fatigue of heavy Air Traffic for several hours prior to this Tragedy!

    Its pretty apparent whst happened.. a few guys on RUclips who were former NTSB investigators.. both believed the 2nd seat person in the helicopter mistook planes, in the audio that we heard the helicopter the plane was on final approach with other planes lined up behind it, tower informed helicopter about the plane incoming, helicopter said we see it and have visual contact, twice the tower asked do u see it? Both times he confirmed visual.....he was looking at the wri g plane. Who ever was physically flying the helicopter wasnt who was on thr radio.... thats why its a 3 person job flying those

    Lockheed just gave a presentation a couple weeks ago showing the capabilities of their new remote control system for the Sikorsky Blackhawk copters. I'm not saying it had anything to do with this tragic event but they are definitely playing with that stuff. Now we just had a new one in Philadelphia with a Learjet that looked like it was at full throttle into the pavement.

    Hey Greg, some points iwould like to bring forward hopefully we will hear answers to. #1 according to my searching and hearing from military pilots calling in to RAV, the uh-60 requires a 4 personnel crew. 1 crew chief that would have occupied the left cockpit seat was not on board. #2 for me it is hard to believe from the videos that they did not see the airplane which begs the question was this really an accident? #3 was the uh-60 cyberhacked? It was said that there were two previous near miss in the two previous days. So is there a terrorist involved? #4 if the uh-60 was operating in dark/stealth with nvg's, why were there lights clearly visible on it in the videos? Just questions that come to mind.

    Prayers to all the families. Nobody would expect this to happen. It seems like not just anyone can get behind the helm of a blackhawk. With all the checks, and safety know how required. Hopefully we can figure out what happened so it doesnt happen again, let alone in live action

  • @georgedreisch2662
    @georgedreisch2662 8 дней назад

    I did the crew chief / backseat thing on UH-1 and UH-60’s. For this being a “check ride” there was probably a Instructor Pilot,(IP), and Pilot in Charge,(PIC), and the Crew Chief,(CE), in the backseat. Think most of this is going to be attributed to failure of crew coordination. Going back, I made the argument that IP’s should be a additional seat, to allow the two pilots to do Pilot things in a coordinated manner as prescribed, and the IP be solely in the role of observer / examiner. Then there’s the part, where operating in this airspace, and the tasks to be done, should have been caught in the planning stages, as part of the risk assessment. I’m speculating, that both Pilots, were “inside” meaning, no one was looking outside, for the concurrent roles, and disruption to crew coordination and lack of proper transfer of responsibilities.
    All this ain’t meant to say that ATC may not have dropped the ball, as well, but there’s always layers to these onions going bad.

    Most TCAS RA’s (resolution advisory) are inhibited below 1100’ to prevent an unsafe descent command at low altitude. Tragic accident that’s a culmination of the airspace, atc, and failure of the Blackhawk to actually have and maintain visual separation.

    I still have trouble with Arnold Punero saying these were the best pilots in our military when their hours do not reflect that. My other problem as you just said is the fact that both aircraft have redundant systems to warn about a collision course.. You could hear the tower system alert in the one communication from the tower.. The system is very redundant. Plus as Mr. Punero pointed out, the H60 was flying one of the most sacred and top secret continuity of government training flight. Wouldn't the towers in proximity would be informed of this flight?? The government again DEIviated from its course of SOPs.

    TCAS does not provide separation warnings below 1000ft.

  • @billyrayband
    @billyrayband 8 дней назад

    It is pretty clear from ADS-B data the RJ was doing a proper modified approach and was descending below 400ft on final. TCAS would not provide any escape commands to them below 1000ft per its design. Night flight at low altitude in a busy metro area going across a final approach just seems like a very bad idea. The BH TCAS/ADS-B capability is not yet known. The controller (who had both aircraft on his scope) and the BH pilot made errors in this case. But with FAA approval of this procedure via DOD pressure, this was just an accident waiting to happen. Today the FAA has indefinitely terminated these helicopter river routes near DCA. So that is the correct immediate action.

  • @mickeym2380

    Greg, TCAS does not work below 1000 feet because you cannot decrease altitude without hitting terrain.

    I was watching Fox News, and they had a Blackhawk pilot on there. And he explained they definitely do not have the collision systems on those helicopters because they fly low, slow, and they fly in formation, feet apart. So, yeah, that would just be going off all the time. They don't have it. And a lot of those Blackhawks are analog gages. It's just very old school

    All those souls for a training session that shouldn't happen where civilians are at high risk for air flight congestion, lighting disorienting, whatever the blame, that's why these types of practice rounds shouldn't risk civilian souls. Along with a tower that lacked ability to confirm and warn in an effective way.

    Possibly the ATC did that because this H60 flight was supposedly a training flight for one of the most sacred and top secret continuity of government flights with the most skilled and experienced pilots in our military with 1,000 and 500 hours..
    It's more botched low level government decisions.. I dont blame the tower or the pilots. I blame those in the military in command that are in important positions not based on merit..
