I heard a Dutch journalist on the radio one hour ago. She said about this song: "my children are singing this all day, it makes me crazy!!" (then she laughed).
The song is typical of the Netherlands. It is in Dutch, a music genre, the music video features mills and stunning Dutch landscapes. Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he did. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. I'm so proud of him.
Basically, he is telling the story how he traveled around but could never escape the pain of losing his parents so early. Now he is expressing how he wants to burn his grief and choose life. I love how it's such an upbeat fun song, because that is exactly what he wants to tell.
Joost is a genius...collaberating with DJ Paul...it is a very nice gesture towards his parents of honoring them, and everytime I listen to the song, that last sentence everytime gets me (My father passed away due a medical fuckup by hospital when he was 57...I was 30)
Yeah I know I'm Dutch but I like this even more than Cha cha cha, bringing back an almost dead music style (happy hardcore/gabber) this is such a fucking iconic song and so dutch/european.
It’s fun and up beat, but in it’s core it’s a sad song about him missing his parents. Who died when he was very young. His dad thought him there are no borders. And while watching eurosong with them he told them he would preform there one time. They died when he was 12 and that’s why he dedicated this song to them.
In its core it's a sad song, but this is also a happy song at the same time. It's not just about hearing the message from him to his parents, but also about feeling the message from his parents to him. They always supported him in his dreams and gave him the courage and energy to go on. They sort of said: "Dear son, you're gonna make it, because we will always be there with you to give you everything you need to become everything you want." If I was standing in his shoes, this music would feel like partying and celebrating the success of achieving his ultimate dream. This music is like the emotion is bursting out, and that is exactly what it is meant for, what he wanted and what his parents wanted for him. At least that's what I think. It is a message to his parents, but also a present from his parents, so it fits perfectly with his story.
This is a masterpiece!!! This is the winner of Eurovision Songcontest 2024. No doubt. Europapa = Eurodad. 12 points for The Netherlands. An ode to his father who passed away when he was 12 years and his mother who passed away when he was 13 years. He promised his father that one day he will be singing at the Eurovision. They used to watch it together when he was a child. Now he made it, because he will be on stage this year. The fire simbolise letting go of the pain no having his parents and the start of a new chapter in his life.
I am definitely a proud Dutch woman! 🇱🇺❤️ Lets give the Netherlands 12 points!❤ And spread all this joy and love throughout all of Europe, we all know...everyone needs a little love and a little joy 🙏❤️🇱🇺
So cool to see this song surprised you and you liked it. The hell broke loose when the hardstyle part began. 👍🏻😎 O and don't apologize to have a french accent. No need. Best wishes from (also) the Netherlands
Your reaction is FABTASTIC. You looked very skeptical in the beginning ,but a smile appeared on your face very fast, and I knew you would go nuts on the hardstyle gabber part. I hope the Gabber dancers will be on stage as well. Back in the 90s I had nothing with that music, but it grew on me. I LOVE this song, and at the end I even get a little emotional. I'm proud to say he is representing our country. ❤
Love your enthusiasm! Think your reaction is EXACTLY what Joost was aiming for... Let's hope the same thing will happen to crouds everywhere when this airs live in Malmö!
This might be the winner who takes all! Great performance! In combination with the sign language woman even better! It makes you happy and gives you positive vibes! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is gold. Both the song and the reaction. I know people have strong opinions on the EU, but I think it's objectively a good thing that a sort of "European pop culture" is emerging. It must not cancel national culture, but coexist with them.
Emotioneel he...die laatste zin...ik ben zelf mijn vader verloren in 2008 door een fout van het ziekenhuis.Hij was 57...ik 30...vandaag de dag ben ik 46,maar nog steeds zeer moeilijk verlies
Ladies and gentleman as a Dutch person there is obviously a lot of nostalgia and lovely references, and when you first watch it you are like.... what the... then you laugh after some time and enjoy, and then the emotional puch at the end with the reference to his dad... Issnt it everything we want, europe, feeling good and a gut punching emotional end! I love it! And can you imagine, during the live performances these guys dancing the old school 'gabber' dancing, that would be a party to never forget right?
TBH i quit listening the first time after a few seconds (Never been a gabber fan) but i like this. And i also had the "what the..." Now i have to watch the contest, thank you Joost you gave me a reason to watch.
I'm so proud of song as Dutch person. I've never heard a more typical Dutch song. He performed this song so well on stage. Respect to the song writer. He was disqualified for no reason, he shut have won... Thanks for reacting to it. Stay awesome ^^
One of the most famous hard core dj's from the Netherlands contributed to this song, DJ Paul Elstak. He is in the movie, sitting in the car during the hard core piece. The song is brilliant.
We first saw this song on Dutch television, than within a day a reaction by an American RUclipsr (Highly Combustible) and then the RUclips algorithm kicked in and showed me hundreds of reactions on RUclips. I'm 66 years young and I love this video! Douze points pour les Pays-Bas 🇳🇱😂👍
EuroPAPA, Papa is dad in Dutch, it's an ode to his dad who died when he was 12 years old. His mum passed a year later because of a heart attack. He always said to his father that he wanted to go to eurovision. The end is going full circle.
This is from a Dutch music scene very popular in the 90's. It's all those other songs copying that era. It also has a twist from a movie series New Kids about that era with a lot of humor. Two movies to must watch to understand a part of this song as well. The second one is about a zombie invasion in Friesland the Province Joost is from. A part of the song is from a 90's producer called Paul Elstak
Growing up in The Netherlands in the '90, HAPPY HARDCORE 4 LIFE!! Best time of my life!! Wish we could go back to those HAPPY sounding vibes!! So cool to see typical happy hardcore sounds and type of filming!!
I sent a video of you (the enthousiastic part) on Insta, but because we do not have a conneection there, the video could not be uploaded. So I wrote you a message in stead there. But man.... you made my evening. I am from the Netherlands and I love Stromae also a lot and when I saw your reply, I really laughed loud. Thank you for making my evening and in fact... I love the video and song as well. It is very 'dutch' techno. Kind of happy hardcore as well. If gives energy and with your video it was even more fun to see.... Thank you very much and have a great weekend....
Your reaction was the same as everyone watching the semi finals in their front rooms.. . Tragic he never got to perform on the night... but he will be the winner for most people regardless.
No when I hear this song I have a very different reaction . One from anger and hatred , those friessians were very wrong in the war . Did some horrible things to other people in the Netherlands . That’s why joost has no parents anymore, they ran back to Deutschland. -9000 points for Friesland .
As Dutch guy I saw it today for the first time and I absolutely love the song. And I did not know the artist before. The song has humour, love and a good beat. Let's go Europe!!
Wooowww loved your reaction!! 12 points to the netherlands!!❤❤

I heard a Dutch journalist on the radio one hour ago. She said about this song: "my children are singing this all day, it makes me crazy!!" (then she laughed).
The moment you stood up, took your shirt off and danced, fantastic 😂👌🏻 Nice to hear you like the song. Warm regards from the Netherlands
😅 Thank you

Whatever you think about this song, no one can ever deny it's unique and a piece of musical art.
It is very smartly done and put in extremely well!!!Especially that last part...DAMN...(Lost my dad due medical fuckup when he was 57...I was 30)
Yeah I know I'm Dutch but I like this even more than Cha cha cha, bringing back an almost dead music style (happy hardcore/gabber) this is such a fucking iconic song and so dutch/european.

We are right in the madness and humor of teh netherlands. Thank you to our neighbors for sending us a dynamic and fun song. Cheers from Belgium
