Dr. Suess was a true genius. He was able to distill the complex social issue of class warfare and discrimination into a form that kids could understand. It's 40 years later, and adults are still viewing and discussing it.
This story only gets better as you get older. When I was a kid I thought it was a simple racism is bad story that didn't have much to offer. But now that I'm older I notice new things. Like McBean being an example of corporations profiting off of bigotry by telling each side exactly what they want to hear just to con them out of their money with something that doesn't really do anything for them at all. Companies in real life do it all the time, probably more today than ever before.

@@grahamboxer5703I'm better than all you because it was only shown on my 3 channel rabbit ears TV when I was little. I must be a true star belly as you bought your viewing latter on from a huckster.
Something I noticed is how the "lesser class" non-star bellies were given a much cheaper price for the machine and their dialogue in general is written to be edgier/simpler (2:37, 5:24) - more colloquial (6:12-6:16) - alluding to the fact that they are, perhaps, not getting the same opportunities in comparison to the pompous star bellies who have a typical upper-class attitude and use larger pretentious words (8:37). BMUSTDIE The real problem is that this cartoon short doesn't do a very good job of going into the details that make racist/classist discrimination so entrenched in human culture. The bonfire parties that the star-bellied Sneetches held were apparently built from scratch by the star-bellied Sneetches; they got the stones and the wood for the fire-pits, and bought their own frankfurters. It was very unlikely that the plain-bellied Sneetches actually helped make any of it, and there's nothing which suggests that they couldn't have started their own parties. Now, regarding racial discrimination on Birmingham public transportation. The people that rode the buses (white and black) didn't have a hand in making them; they were provided by a government-funded department of transportation. And furthermore, that department was funded by the tax money of both whites and blacks. So not only were white people provided a service that they only indirectly supported, but black people provided that same indirect support and were still treated worse.

Same with The Zax.
This was a major part of my childhood!😄🤩😎👌
That McBean fella is a fantastic businessman! Selling idiots shit they don't need. Feeding on the ego of the consumer. Leaving when all the money is gone. A fantastic businessman indeed! Keep this tale in mind the next time you're standing in line for the new iPhone.
uuuhhh no this is about racsim
+KenjiANDUNDERTALE SANS
Even though it does have racism tones in it, in the end, it teaches those to be kind to others no matter what they look like.
KenjiANDUNDERTALE SANS - Clearly the points about consumer manipulation & herd behavior went right over your head. If the only lesson you learned from this was "racism is bad," then you should probably watch it again.
Listen, we all know that racism is bad.
Also, if you said that "racism is bad" went right over my head, then why would I put "it does have racism tones in it" in my comment?

- my response wasn't directed at you, Rey.
Bro I love this so much. Wonderful songs, and story writing
Watching this in 2023 and being like: Wow… So much of this story connects with so much of the real world and it’s many issues…
Man I remember this movie. I would watch it non stop because I loved it so much. This man was my childhood
"That applies, likewise, to your daddy and your mommy!" - damn, ice cold.
First time I seen this for over 20 years, how wonderful
I quoted McBean out of context last week calling myself the Fix-It-Up Chappie. My boss laughed at the reference but spent ten minutes explaining how I’m not like him. I was just being a wiseass haha
Anyone else come back to this during COVID?
This is like the expanded version of the book.
I don’t why I’m here but I’m so glad I’m watching this again.
The legendary song parodist Allan Sherman, who is perhaps most famous for his song "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh," was the voice of The Cat in the Hat in this video. This was his last project before his death. So sad.
They kept duplicating McBean's "thank you" audio track.
At least McBean is an incredibly polite con-artist
i want it as a ringtone
@Ghost Coffee true
Thank you for exposing America.
1 Samuel 16:7
“ But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”
Romans 12:10
“ Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”
There’s a moral to this movie ya know
haven't seen this in a long time, feels good seeing this again :')

This had the greatest message out of all Seuss's creations.
on a more positive note, I find the cat in the hats song at the beggining to be the perfect beach song
I watched this like once in 5th grade becase my class and other class did Seussical the Musical and I suddenly rememebred it and decided to check it out again.
4:21 Elon approaching Twitter in the red car, to charge for verification checkmarks.
"My prices are low, and the changes are stark!
Just a measly 8 bucks for a lovely blue mark!"
The owner of twitter had said with a smile,
"Just be sure to renew, it runs out in a while!"
I remember our class saw this and we died laughing, cause at some point in this when they said beaches it sounded like they said bitches
This is so nostalgia
i used to have a dvd with this along with a few other animated stories of his and it was the best

My 3rd grade teacher showed us this, I think, Maybe 7 years ago now! Still a nice memory.
The sneetches only came together after the stars lost all of their meaning, not because the non star bellies stole the stars from the star bellies and were like "we fought for these stars you can't have them."
My favorite Dr Seuss!
