- Oh my gosh! You never know what you'll see when you get back into the Louisiana backroads.
If you’ve ever been to Louisiana, you probably went to New Orleans, got drunk, got back on your plane and left. If you did that, you missed out on a whole lotta stuff.
When I first got to Louisiana, of course I did that New Orleans thing. But only for a couple days. Then, I took off and headed up through cajun country, into the woods, over the river, past all the farmland and Shreveport and into Arkansas. The whole trip took 5 days.
And boy did I see a lot. And they sure were nice days for Louisiana backroadin. Partly cloudy and 75 degrees in the springtime.

The best video on this topic!
the guy eating the chicken is the best😁 that’s some good, wholesome Louisiana!
That was the best chicken I've ever had do you agree lolly?
@NickJohnson south Louisiana people are not rednecks they're coonasses
See my comment above about that Man. Much respect and appreciation for Him.
I love the LA people. They are honest, simple and genuine. The man in Homer really summed it up. We go to church and pledge allegiance to the flag. LA you rock.
Hope you're talking about Louisiana not Los Angeles
@@johnjaco5544 Louisiana not LA. Please.
@@johnjaco5544 Hmm, if only there was some context that would make it glaringly obvious...
The exact opposite of LA (Los Angeles ) people.
@@maanman3573 Yeah, like a 20 minute video about Louisiana,..or something!
I was born and raised in Louisiana and the folks are great.
Me too! Raised in Lafayette and went to high school in Lake Charles… college in Ruston. I married a military man, and live in Nebraska now, but miss Louisiana every day. Those damn hurricanes… The only reason we can’t go back. Nicest people in the world.
When the SHTF, these people are going to survive anything. I admire them.
Thank you, we’re planning on it and we’ll take care of others too❤
A 6 piece crawfish had me dying 🤣🤣. One thing I’ll add, you said, they put more emphasis on hunting and fishing than education… education is a broad term. You need to be taught the things it takes to thrive in your environment, we might not do so well in a big city, but on the water we survive on things that some pay $35 a plate to eat in a fancy restaurant.
Amen.
$35? Most of those fools pay a lot more than that 😂
@@franzgeil422 Nick needs to come back now, August season just started…(white shrimp)
It really bothers me that Nick said people in Louisiana pay more attention to hunting fishing and not on education. Shame on you Nick. Hunting and fishing is in our blood. Education is extremely important to us. As far low income families and drug abuse another shame on you. Tell me something where do you live. I guess no poor families (your words not mine) in your city, no drug abuse and heaven forbid no prisons.
It’s a sad day when a grown man makes money on U-Tube put down Louisiana
Yea he is tripping for real lmao,,, nah he has a point but what place isn’t like that , we are messed up half the population gives a dam the other half of the state don’t , and the criminals come from lack opportunity , right now teenagers see way more money looking in the streets than a job who only wants to work you 20 hours a week
I love ppl like the guy in his truck. So friendly and loves to talk. Never do I meet ppl like this in California. Nobody talks to anyone not even in my apartment complex. It’s sad.
As a city guy who has visited several small towns throughout the USA, I absolutely adore the simplicity and sincerity of the people
Absolutely LOVE Louisiana! The food, people, culture, history. Friendliest people in the US. Only one thing comes to mind that’s not good is the roads. Worse roads of any state I have been to.
Oklahoma bad bumpy roads too!
Detroit roads 🤦♀️
@@jgrysiak6566 We drove to Oklahoma City back in December from ne Texas and dont remember bad roads thru Oklahoma. We took the back roads.
@@shawnmeyer2788 , I 40 was bad, & bumpy, but this was in 2006!
Bad roads = democrat loyalty. Poverty loves the lie.
My son lives in New Orleans. First time I went down there from my home state of Washington, I was amazed at how friendly he people were, no matter if they were black or white, just nice people, so different from Washington State.
It’s the people that make Louisiana a special state.
We really all do love each other down here❤
Thats cool I am from Washington my EX was from LA we visited a few times awesome people bro inlaw also from there
These folks don't have an agenda, they just tell it like it is.
These people can’t afford and agenda. They make $25k a year, lol.
@@Freethecommonshonestly youd be surprised how much some of these guys pull in, and the huge houses they might have. People will be millionaires and dress in jeans and tee shirt and be up to their knees in mud hunting alligators or fishing
@@Freethecommons No, don’t be fooled.
@@innotechI lived in Lake Charles, LA for 3 years in the early 80’s. I worked for a popular guy, who had a couple of popular restaurants, I was shocked when visiting the homes of some of my coworkers, their families were rich!! People acted the same, money or not. But that was a long time ago. 🤔
Everyday people
Been lost here since 1982. Cajun women have been my downfall.
You’re speaking my language
1st wife was Cajun….stupidest thing I ever did but those were still my drinking days
Hahaha
I love their accent! Louisiana is such a cool state.
I have family in Louisiana, my cousins condo on Lake Pontchartrain is still not completely repaired from the last bad hurricane....
The small town folks are real kind, friendly people.
Idk about being in the cities... Lots of drama.
Nick, what I love the most about your videos are the honest interactions with the real Joe Blows of the neighborhoods you’re in. “Keeping it real up in the field, aight!”
This is fascinating! I like the profiles on smaller places. Cities are interesting, but the people in the backwoods have a lot to say! 😄Thank you Nick! Your videos are always on point! I’m a huge fan!✨💛
Ok Kate!

Correction, Louisiana is not where slavery was "born".
Slovenia is where the word slave comes from. Africa was and is the capital of slavery. I'm sure you heard the Egyptians had their slaves build the pyramids. To this day there is still mass slavery in Africa.
@@mapexzildjian6361 you're absolutely correct about your, post on slavery, it's still going on to this day, I can buy a wife for 2 Grand here in Cleveland Ohio ‼️👍
My wife and I enjoyed mint juleps and fried alligator at Bon Sejour Plantation. Lots of cool stuff in New Orleans also. If all you do is get drunk you missed it.
I am a trucker. I ve been everywhere. Louisiana, especially its back country, for some reason is one of my favourite places in the country. Something special about it. It took me some years to realise that. I live in South Florida myself.
Love your videos. I will tell you the best bosses I ever had were two from Louisiana! No micromanaging, very laid back but good business people. Wish all my bosses had been like that. They made you love working for them!
I haven’t thought about it but you are 100% right on this!
One thing I learned from working in south Louisiana. If you see people that wear little white boots evacuate for a hurricane. Run for your life and don't stop until you pass up Forest Gump because it's gonna be bad.
Shrimpers lol
Why? what's that mean?
Are you talking about insulated boots called " Mickey mouse " boots .. 🧐🤔
Cajun Reeboks
@@chk3700Nope, shrimp boots. If they are evacuating it’s serious.
I’m 72 , borne and raised in Shreveport. You did a very good job crisscrossing Sportsman Paradise and sharing a quick glimpse of our colorful state. Thank you!
A game warden caught a cajun hunter shooting falcons . He told the hunter that falcons were endangered and illegal to hunt . The cajun told him he didn't know . The game warden said , look I'll make a deal with you , if you tell me what falcons taste like i will only write you a warning . The cajun said , they taste kinda like a pink flamingo mixed with a bald eagle .
It's nice to hear from good people in a world that looks not so good sometimes. Also the lumber mills in Canada have been closing down sense the 90's(from the East coast to the West coast). It's been bad for small towns that depended on that one or two saw mills for work. Building is still happening so all the lumber is coming from somewhere.
Trump put a tax on Canadian lumber coming to the U.S. also
Probaly china.
"you ever eat frog"? "no, not really". Trust me Nick if you had gas station meat pie in Louisianna then you've eaten frog! 🤣
fried frog legs are quite tasty!
Redeep
They wouldn't put frog in a meat pie. You get a lot more meat off a cow then a frog 🙄
Frog legs are too damn expensive to put in a meat pie. Meat pies use beef. Frog legs are fried. Plus the meat is totally different. You'd very much be able to tell.
Thank you for highlighting my home state!
Any time!
Went to Lake Martin, LA. What a great experience! Great folks for sure!
Lafayette has nice people
Nick, I grew up in the North Louisiana region--Shreveport, Grand Bayou, and Nachitoches. I've lived in Louisville, Ky now for 25 years. It was great to see the familiar places and gas station food that I tell people about. Meat pies are the BEST!
Thank You!
Louisville is a great city, too bad politics and crime are taking over the city.
I worked in the area. Retired in central Illinois and it is really different. I loved crawfish in New Orleans.
Y’all South Arkansas not Louisiana 😂
@@Devinn504 Where are you from--Many?

@@Devinn504bruh lol😭 pipe down wit that country shxt Shreveport on a whole other level real ones in every city good peoples n haters everywhere..... Love is the way bruddah lol💯
I've been watching your videos for a few years. Used to watch mainly because you would cover subjects I was searching on. I wasn't always sure about you, but you have really developed your channel, and your style, and you do a good job of getting down to the truth of these areas. Very well done Nick. Keep up the good work.
On my first trip to Louisiana, my dad and I drove south from NW Arkansas to Shreveport, then kept going to the Gulf and stopped at a few wildlife sanctuaries, plantations, state parks for swamp kayaking, and random sea food joints along the road. Dad got nervous in places where there's a road but mostly water around you, but I love those areas. We camped on the most mosquito-infected coast we've stayed at (Grand Isle?). But it was fun. Thankful it was March. On the way back north we stayed on the east side and cut through Arkansas through Monticello and Pinebluff. Outside of Monticello had the BEST fried chicken at an unbranded gas station, lol.
I love NW Ark- Lived there for 10 years in the '90's. That trip is fun. I have taken those roads too. Monticello is still my half-way point between BTR and NW Ark (Used to be Pine Bluff but no more). I live in Baton Rouge.
I can listen to David all day long he was so pleasant I love the accent
I was born/raised in Lousiana. The people are geniune, hardworking and just flat out good people.
In my experiences in Louisiana here is how I rate it. Great people, great food and great fishing. For you hunters out there.....Great hunting as well.....from what the great people have told me.
Yes I moved here to LA from North Carolina and I lived in NC for over 50 years!..thought to myself; people use to say people in NC was filled with southern hospitality ...but that's not true southern hospitality is here in Louisiana! I love it here! ❤
There are places where people live so far up rivers on houses on stilts over a swamp. They have boats to get around because there are no roads and there is even a guy with a pontoon boat loaded with barrels who provides trash collection. It is a different life in Louisiana.
I did spend some time in New Orleans but we traveled to New Iberia because my husband and I loved James Lee Burke stories that are set there. We drove around some, and visited a walk through swamp.
Depending on where you go in Louisiana it can seem like a different state or even country. I've lived in the Shreveport-Bossier area for decades, recently moved to East Texas.
Shreveport has become very dangerous.
Ive lived in Longview for 45 years. Shreveport has always been dangerous.
@@shawnmeyer2788
Yeah, in the 80s Shreveport wasn't great but it's a different kind of dangerous for the last 20 or so years.
Last time I was in Shreveport was in the early eighties, I don’t remember being scared, but we were young and we all drank. We moved from Detroit to Lake Charles and people offered us alcohol everywhere we went!! 💕
My sister had and has a Mexican Imports pottery business down here in South Texas and a few years ago she asked me if I could deliver some merchandise for a few clients she had and has up in Louisiana to their businesses, I had only driven and or ride along while going thru rural Louisiana , that time I decided to goof around I'm some of my numerous trips I took to Louisiana and found out how awesome and beautiful, not only how beautiful the whole rural cities in the State are but it's awesome how friendly and beautiful it's people are , I spent about a couple of months driving thru out Louisiana, and in my lifetime,I'm 52 , actually turning 53 tomorrow, like I said , I was a roadie for a whole bunch of bands and artists thru out the 80 s, 90s and early 2000s and I'm my likings , Louisiana is simply beautiful and it's people are simply awesome !! ✌🏻👽🍄💚😚💨💨💨💨💚🍄👽✌🏻
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Nick, thank you for keeping it real and unbiased. I am a lifelong born and bred resident of Louisiana and we have our problems, but we take care of our own and anyone else who needs help; thank you for showcasing that. I so enjoy your content and presentation. You crack me up. Keep doing what you're doing.
Great people, indeed.
I love NOLA. I love Louisiana. Thanks for the video.
We were down and toured mostly rural areas, old plantation houses and battle of New Orleans site to figure out just how you guys managed to win one (😉). Met a couple of farmers and pretty well instantly knew we had so much in common. One family came up to visit us back. I would call them severely normal people. Like Alberta USED to be.
You were in the River Parishes.
I used to love watching Justin Wilson on his cooking show on TV !!
Your videos Nick are fascinating! I really enjoy it when you interview people.
Nice, Mappy has an LSU cap. Thanks for showing us the good side of this Deep South gem.

You were in my neck of the woods literally! You went to some great places. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I loved this video of Louisiana that you posted.. I love Louisiana. However only got to go there once during Mardi gras. But I had a chance to tour around a little bit. I love the plantations and the trees. Just a laid-back country feeling!

From Ville Platte!!! Now in Pittsburgh,PA. Awesome accurate video! Thanks Nick
Great video. My daughter, granddaughter and son in law live down there. I can't wait to go back and visit, probably around Thanksgiving when it cools down.
Fascinating video. Applaud your talent at getting people comfortable enough to open up to you. Love Louisiana. Such a unique location, culture with a rich history. Nothing else quite like it in America.
Louisiana resident here! You're on point with your info. ❤😂
Friendly people indeed, seems like you enjoyed your tour of this county
I just spent 2 weeks doing a southern states tour. The people there are so nice. They greet ya a lot. Not shy to talk to ya. Nothing like here in Washington state. I'm originally from Virginia and miss the southern hospitality.
I love hearing about how people live. What industry is prospering and the pollution issues. I have used these videos to ask hood questions in my plan to sell my FL home to buy in in NC .
You are a kind (and very entertaining) person. You have such “nice” things to say about “stuff”.
Woohooo crayfish pie and jambalaya ❤

I always come to your channel when I need some dry humor and a laugh. Really, really enjoy your videos. Great sense of humor. Thanks, Nick.
That looks like the most wonderful place.
Nice people you stumbled up on. I need to tour USA for a couple of months at some point for vacation. So many golden nuggets on the road. Thanks for another good video Nick.

Great Video As Always Nick!
It's amazing those trees on the plantation entrance are more than 200 years old.
That was a great video , I especially liked the gentleman who filled us in on the timber industry. So much of America has lost its markets. I think it would still be worth a trip to explore , every one has to live as they wish, the people seemed very friendly.
Thanks Nick and mapie I look forward to your videos every week.
Ok! And Mappy says HI!
Nick you are so fun! I laughed so much with your descriptions😂
That is the creepiest tree I’ve ever seen at 18:06! Great video! I think I would really enjoy talking to people from this area! They are really down to earth.
Thank you for getting the turtle across the road, you're awesome!! Louisiana just feels comfortable... other than the mosquitos.
Those meat pies are famous in Jamaica as well 😋
Beef and curry chicken are the two main ones you get in the islands. They call them patties as opposed to pies. Had plenty of those when I lived in the Bahamas. (Hot patties)
We actually have a lot of Caribbean culture down here…kind of a melting pot. Beans and rice is huge down here too
Nick I’ve been watching your videos for years. I’m from Shreveport and have lived in California since 2005 when I joined the Marines. Shreveport holds a place in my heart though it’s a tragedy to go home and see the city turn into what it has. You didn’t show much about Shreveports downtown with all the casinos and riverboats. Thank you for Sharing.
Been watching you for a few years can’t wait til u hit 1 million subs bro 🙏
Love your videos. I was born in Marrero, LA NOLA suburb before I moved to NC. Be safe when you get lost in Louisiana friend.

Hi Nick! I watched this video yesterday but was on the move so didn't have a chance to comment. This is a great video and really gives some background on the people you meet when you really go beyond the main streets.
