My bedtime routine is watching RUclips videos and falling asleep to them... Damn.

I probably shouldn't endorse that, but I've done it myself so am not in a position to criticise ;-)

@@Presenting_Psychology I would like to not use my phone in my bed but I use it both as an alarm and more importantly as my sleep tool. So unfortunately this promotes bad habits.

@@planetary-rendez-vous As obvious at it sounds: try substituting using the phone with reading or something enjoyable that doesn't involve screen time. Use a watch or clock to deliver your wake up call rather than your phone, this gives you the ability to distance yourself a bit from it at night time and first thing in the morning so it's not the last and first thing you have to hand. Also turn off any audible notifcations for apps as these always entice you to pick it back up.

Is this video about me personally? I can relate so much. Thank you for the advice, I can’t seem to break out of this viscous cycle. Bad sleep leading to lack of willpower to put the phone down when I go to bed, leading to bad sleep etc… also thank you for citing references. You gained a subscriber!

I'm sometimes guilty of putting off bedtime myself. It's very common especially when our lives are a bit too busy for comfort. It's just something we have to be mindful and avoid doing things that are consistently antagonistic to sleep.
Many thanks for the subscription. Lots more (hopefully useful) evidence based content from Psychology to come. :-)
