You're correct on it being "Feminine" La Signora is one of the 11 Fatui harbingers who are all named after the Archetypes from Commedia Dell'arte and share some traits with said Archetypes. Signora is a tragic figure, having lost her lover and awakening a power that burnt at her life and living off of borrowed power to enact her revenge upon the gods who she deems at fault for the death of her lover 500 years ago.

Less revenge and more bitter and angry. As well as completely dedicated to One God's dream of a "New World". As she revealed her true from and melted away the ice, the memories of an innocenct existence she once had but she burned with her own hands resurfaced. Her anger has always been directed at the monsters of the abyss and The God of freedom, and perhaps even the world in itself which is why she wants to burn it all.

There's a group of "villains" in Genshin called the Fatui, and all boss themes of it's members share a Fatui leitmotif. Signora, Scaramouche and Tartaglia all have boss themes with that leitmotif. Since you're probably gonna listen to them days or weeks apart you most likely won't notice it, but i just wanted to point it out

This progression at 5:50 is so genius from the composer, it explains the emotions of signora in her lore, she goes from sad due to her lover's absence because of war, then it turns to happiness because she heard he was coming home, only to go back to sadness because she learnt that he was killed, then she goes mad (the disturbing chords) and finally becomes evil (the tense chords).

  • @DR_REDACTED
    @DR_REDACTED Год назад +44

The theme is from the bosse's point of view and her backstory is heart breaking😢
Before becoming La Signora "The Fair Lady", she was Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter, a young woman from Mondstadt (The starting area of the game.) Around 500 years ago she fell in love with a knight. After some time she left to study. While she was studying in the Sumeru Akademiya Rostam (the knight) died in a war agains monsters. As Rosalyne comes home to Mondstadt, she finds out about the fate of Rostam, leading to her insanity. After mourning, she decided to use “her life’s flame” to cleanse “the world’s crookedness,” becoming the Crimson Witch of Flame. She let liquid fire consume her, abandoning her mortal body. She only ever used her liquid fire to burn monsters and demons, but it gave her infamy amongst people and they started to fear her as the Crimson Witch of Flames.
Before she could be fully devoured by her own flames, Pierro "The Jester" Leader of The Fatui (organization ingame) found her and decided to make her an ally. She was given a Cryo Delusion a human made copy of crustals that give people powers) to suppress her flames and became known as La Signora, the Eighth of the Eleven Fatui Harbringers. (Group of eleven strongest Fatui)😊

I love Genshin Impact music! A cool thing about boss theme in Genshin is that the music is made to describe the boss as a character in this case all the drama secrions and vulnerability section you mentioned are refering to Signora's backstory
But the boss themes are not the only good pieces of music in Genshin Impact, I advise you to listen also Hustle and Bustle of Ormos, Gilded Runner, Swirl of the Stream, Forlorn Child of Archaic Winds and Die Mitsommernacht Fantasie that are my personal favorite non-boss OST from Genshin Impact

  • @WhaleMilk
    @WhaleMilk Год назад +4

I love that you're getting into Genshin's OST! This OST is legendary for the innovative and incredibly creative things that Yu-Peng Chen and the Hoyo-Mix team do with mixing modern instrumentation with classical composition. Motif and references to opera and classical music are everywhere, and it is one of the most immersive soundtracks out there right now.
My favorite thing about Signora's fight is that it really nails a major leitmotif that the game uses a lot throughout the course of the soundtrack: those first six notes that the horns play at the beginning of phase one is the Fatui Motif (it's the same six notes that Columbina sings at the beginning of A Winter Night's Lazzo, which is where that connection comes from for those that are curious). More broadly, the dissonance of a minor second interval is used in pretty much every harbinger theme that we've heard, and is kind of the calling card for them as an organization. They're in Childe's phase 3, they're littered in Scaramouche's fight, and you can even hear it when Arlecchino was introduced in The Final Feast. But that six note melody is analogous to the Bean Theme in Into The Woods: a basic motif that has many variations across the soundtrack that all use the minor second as a linchpin. It's really cool once you start noticing that Fatui theme.
Have fun diving into Genshins soundtrack! There is so much there, and it gets unbelievably deep

That part when you say that the solo singer feels personal. Because it is. The solo is supposed to represent La Signora herself. The lyrics she sang was her story. Of her love, to her lover, to her country and her God. Of which she was "betrayed". Her lover died, her country deemed her as evil witch.
In the end the high notes was some kind of vow to revenge everything to the Gods that had forsaken her.

The Latin songs in Genshin are those of a group known as the Fatui, which Signora is a part of. They do not tell the Protagonist's story, but the backstory of the enemy, which is mostly only revealed in the description of off-story items, and the latin lyrics.
PS: The part that you remembered from the "Execution" part of Raiden's theme is the Fatui Leitmotiv, which you will come across in two other themes, those of Tartaglia and Scaramouche.

Regarding the motif you recognized from the Raiden Shogun video, it's actually more associated with La Signora than Raiden Shogun. It's presence in the Raiden Shogun theme is because that part played largely during a confrontation between Raiden and La Signora, and the music alternates between their respective motifs. More broadly, the motif is not specific to La Signora, but rather her faction, and it can be heard throughout the themes of other members of said faction.

I LOVE YOUR INPUT AND THE KNOWLEDGE YOU SHARED IN THIS TRACK! You hit the nail on the head with your analysis of the music. The music tells the tragic, emotional story of La Signora. She is the boss, the villian AND the victim in the story (of this music).
Yu Peng Chen makes all the boss themes a backstory for the boss. As though they are the protagonist of their own story, and we learn so much about their character from their music.
Now that you have completed La Signora, I feel it is appropriate you listen to Tartaglia and Scaramouche's boss themes next. You will notice a reoccurring pattern in their themes (if their names alone have not given you a clue yet). Keep close attention to these three tracks in your future videos. We have a fourth boss in relation to these 3 boss themes in the possible near future, so thats something to look forward to.
The music of Genshin Impact are so drastically different from each other depending on the nations they represent within the game. (It is shocking to believe they are all from the same game) Apep's Boss Theme is one of the most unique tracks within Genshin Impact today and Azhdaha's Boss Theme + The Divine Damsel of Devastation brings home the Chinese origins of this game.

Despite being from Shnezhnaya, a russian-inspired region (which is not in the game yet), the harbingers have codenames taken after an italian theater opera called "Commedia dell'Arte": they are La Signora, Tartaglia, Scaramuccia, Dottore, Arlecchino (which will be seen in Fontaine, the region that came out a few days ago), Pantalone, Sandrone, Colombina, Pulcinella, Capitano, Pierrot.
The Signora theme was present in the Raiden one because of the "execution" cutscene, which is, in fact, the Raiden Shogun executing Signora.
You're the first react I see that didn't go crazy at the insane strings/guitar arpeggio in phase 2, I admire your composer there, I'm not capable of not going crazy at that part.
Anyway, this boss theme, as ALL Genshin boss themes, tells the tale of the boss. This song actually descripts both the boss battle and La Signora's story and background. And the choir's voice there is insane.

la signora has a pretty tragic backstory basically her lover/boyfriend was killed in an catastrophic event 500 years ago while she was studying in another land after she heard of it she was angry that the gods did not step in and in her rage she used an forbidden art and transformed her body in living flames after that she was taken in by an "evil" group (its not clear how evil they are bc they do some good stuff to) but they gave her something that lets her control ice but takes slowly her life away. that life taking has no effect on her bc due to her transformation she cant die of high age and the ice lets her cool her flames so she can restore her body but she still holds grudges against the god of her nation the Boss fight is way after that and has basically nothing to do with her backstory you just want to stop her from taking the gods gnosis (basically what gives the god their divine power)😅
in the fight her first form is her human form where she uses her ice but in the second her fire breaks through bc she couldnt contain it anymore
the fight also has terrain effects in her first phase its extremely cold and u take damage and in the second its hot but in the second phase she can move and where ever she steps it gets hotter

When I do this boss fight in game, I just quick fight then leave... but when I first actually heard this in full outside of the game (remove the bias of the ongoing fight on the screen), I honestly teared up-- it felt really, really sad esp the choir parts in the first phase. It gave me the impression that the villain didn't wanna be one, but was forced to be one due to circumstance (or some other factor)

One thing i can say about La Signora is that, she's a very romantic and emotional character. She's connected to an organization called "Fatui" which originated in a Russian Inspired Country and is inspired by "Commedia Dell'arte" along with characters like Tartaglia and Scaramouch (scaramouch is also connected heavily to raiden) whom i also recommend to listen to their boss themes too as these characters share a Fatui leitmotif but they came in different regions of the game and of different upbringings that lead them to the group, which makes their music unique to themselves.

since everyone will likely be suggesting a lot of boss music (for good reason, they're all bangers), I'd like to throw some non-boss themes in here for variety.
one of my favourite themes in the game has to be "rapid as wildfires", it's absolutely amazing. "combat beneath the waves" would also be a great one to see you break down.
for something more calm, I think the recent "fontaine" would be a good one (though it may be easier to find by searching for "fontaine main theme").

That leftmotif you love is the leftmotif used for the Fatui agents in almost all their themes. I would also recommend giving the Shouki no Kami and Tartaglia Childe themes a listen. The former's themes being called "Rhapsodia Rhopsica" and "Polumnia Omnia", and the latter's being called "Never-Ending Performance" and "Wrath of Monoceros Caeli". Both of those two also have transformation themes as well.

La Signiora used to be a Mondstaft Maiden know as Rosalyne, who was deeply in love with a Knight called Rostam. She was very intelligent and adapt in magic, therefore she left her home nation to study elements in Sumeru Akademiya, bringing with her a timepiece from her beloved that counted down to the moment of her return.
During her abscence, a cataclysm occured, enveloping the entire continent of Teyvat in chaos. Mondstadt's archon, Barbatos had to fight at the source of the disaster, the Kingdom of Khaenri'ah. Mondstadt was left to fend for itself, and Rostam was slain by a Dragon known as Durin.
Having Returned to Mondstadt, Rosalyne was devastated to learn about her lover's death. Believing that Barbatos's ignorance and incompetence was at fault, she used her elemental knowledge and consumed liquid fire, which tranfromed her into the a being of pure flame. She swore to not only take revenge on ignorant gods, but also to eradicate every single monster of the abyss.
Although she protected Mondstadt's people, they were terrified of her, calling her a witch - that's when her title "Crimson Witch of Flames/Embers" emerged. She was forced into an immortal life of solitude, which increased her resentment, Madness and grief.
Until one day, she was approached by a masked man, who told her about Cryo Archon's will. Rosalyne found Tsaritsa's goals most noble, which led her to eventually become one of the Fatui Harbingers, accepting the alias "La Signora". A cryo delusion - magical gift granting her control over the ice element prevents her own fire from consuming her completely. Because now, even the timepiece from her fallen lover, once filled with water, is buring with liquid flame.

I stopped playing genshin a while ago, so all I have to say on this one is: I only wish they'd have given signora half as much development that her battle theme hints at, it's so frustrating to me that she only serves as a weekly boss that you have to farm when she could have been so much more. She could have been a mirror character to your protagonist, she saw the wilder side of the gods and rejected them outright, accepting cursed power even if she knew she would ultimately suffer all the more because of her choice, but her thirst for revenge wastoo strong, whild your character holds the possibility to embody all the gods at once because of the element change mechanics. I feel like with the right amount of preparation, build-up and careful wrighting, she could have been a major character, a tragic villain whose story is a broken reflection of the protagonist's.

She was once kind and talented woman but she lost her beloved in the war
Then she used her magical power to turn herself into Crimson Witch of Flame
She threw all her pain and wrath and hatred towards the monsters which caused said war
But humans got scared of her (I mean huge raging witch with burned skin crushing everything in sight of course they were scared)
But then she encountered the first fatui harbinger and he somehow managed to gain her trust and she joined the fatui (no romantic tho)
Fatui's queen - the cryo (ice) god - Tsaritsa gave her ice powers to seal away her flame and Signora followed her
In first phase she fights with cryo powers and music kinda tells a story (there are latin lyrics somewhere) but then when she realised she's losing (we are fighting her in deathly duel in front of another godness but thats besides the point) she transforms at 12:33 and now she's flaming again with guitars
We still dont know what Tsaritsa wants but it's probably something really big and plot twisting

I will recommend "Scaramouche Boss theme" it should come up with a simple search, it's...highly similar to this one, but also extremely unique, due to these characters being...partially acquainted, it's complicated but thats all that needs to be said!
