There's another solution to the riddle posed, that doesn't involve conservation of momentum, except in that force is applied. If clothed, one can use anything from an aglet to a belt buckle to carve a small hole in the ice which can be used to pull yourself in the direction of the shore. Also, per the parameters of the riddle, the ice is frictionless, but the medium you and the ice are in (the air) is not. Against wind resistance, one can assume that you'd be capable of providing less force than any wind. However with a tail wind or in a still atmosphere; the greater resistance of the air would allow for some velocity to be gained on frictionless ice, allowing for movement towards the shore.

In One Piece, Sanji learned the "Sky Walk" where he pushes the air below his feet to accelerate upward. Considering he can provide a lot of energy mid-air, what would be the speed of one of his foot to "fly" ?
Making major approximations ( foot area, 60kg, etc) Something around 100m/s ( 1/3 or the speed of sound). It's around 360km/h or 200mph. His knees would break after a jump. But worth?
Sky Walk works by kicking the air 10 times in a row in just a moment (a second I guess?), so what would the math be when taking into consideration the 10 kick combo? Would it lessen the required speed, or increase it?
Don't know the math to know the velocity or acceleration this would do, but by giving 10 kicks in one second, saying he needs to move his foot 70cm for one kick... The speed of his foot is something around 14m/s, although, one second is waaay too much time, probably 100 milliseconds is more realistic. His feet moves at 140m/s.
In gymnastics/tumbling we kinda do get a double jump. Not from throwing your feet down but by driving your knees up. When timed correctly this actually allows your hips and shoulders to get higher than a normal jump.

I mean if you have the technology to kill any given human, then adding the notebook functionality (which requires knowing their name and face, as well as writting on paper from the book) would just reduce your capabilities.
I mean I guess you could have a camera looking at the notebook and interpreting your writing, but a notebook is just fundamentally probably not the best input device for this tech. Also if you were clever enough to create the tech to kill anyone in the first place then you're not going to limit yourself to only being able to use a notebook to activate your kill switch. TLDR: if you have the tech/logistics to kill anyone you want then what the hell is the point of the notebook? It's just totally secondary.
Sure they would be one solution among many (genetically engineered diseases would similarly work) and you would then set up a server likely connected to a few satellites that sends a signal to turn on a particular person's kill switch. However once you've built something like that, uh what the hell is the point of the notebook as opposed to just sending the kill request to your server using your phone or something? and even worse why would you deliberately put limitations on it that require you know people's names and faces? Of course once you had this sort of system setup you could also do some pretty great things with it like use the data to suss out the genetic basis for nearly any trait. Then if you're using a retrovirus just have it give everyone the best overall genes, eliminating genetic diseases and ensuring any new people born are all world class geniuses and athletes who're predisposed to be highly altruistic.
i know he can, but why would he want to he can already run through air and the nothingness of space, so him being able to double jump isn't somethhing that would require him to take of his clothes
the flash running around naked... Would that not cause problems for his balls? i guess they would get stretched out dangling behind his ass... Or would it get so chilly, he'd get a shrinkage thereby protecting his balls? XD
Hey Kyle, love the videos! Also, could you do a video on how long the human torch could stay on fire, and where he gets the energy to light himself from?
No since your body won't be able to exert such a high forcr which would cause the impulse to lead to a momentum, we have force times time equal to speed times mass since the object you throw is really fatty it wouldnt be able to throw it in a high speed since your body wont be able to exert such a high force in such short time (if you did you would break your bones) so the mass of object doesnt really matter, if you throw a light object at a high speed its the same as throwing something at low speed since our body is limited to a force that we can exert within such a limited time as 0.5 sec (assume it) if you were luke cage (power man from marvel) according to nerdist and my knowledge you could jump with a huge ass rock then throw it in the midair and get a second jump... :)
So now theoretically we can double jump, but some games have a triple jump, so how would a naked flying person who just double jumped, get a third jump with nothing to throw at this point
As long as you have a large enough surface to create sufficient enough lift under ideal circumstances (Aang's kite for example) then yes, one who can control wind would be able to fly.
Or in Terraria, where you need a special item called Cloud In A Bottle in order to double jump. The idea seems to be that your character releases a part of the highly compressed cloud to gain an extra boost. However, there are also other items with similar function, namely the Sandstorm, Blizzard and Tsunami In A Bottle. Also, when you get a Whoopee Cushion and combine it with any of these items, the effect doesn´t change, but you propel yourself upwards with a light green cloud and a very funny noise. :)
1) what is the atmospheric pressure of the Mushroom Kingdom? 2) What is the gravity of the Mushroom Kingdom? Also, if I remember correctly they are wearing cybepunk like spring and weight geared boots and gauntlets given to them as commissioned heroes that allows them to jump like that and punch bricks and/or stomp foes, pick up throw things
Technically you can still double jump to a degree by moving your legs like a jump midair gives you about 10 or so more Milliseconds of airtime but you’ll only get maybe a couple of centimeters from it
Another way why a doublejump not works is, that our jumps are sorry... compared to a videogamejump... a lame joke. The time between initiation and back to ground is far to low than you need to recontract your legs and initiate another jump, because (the regular person) jumps a real real useless high (outof stand). I guess the easiest way for Doublejump is to add "one impulse" miniengines in your shoes. That need recharge time. (perhaps by compressing air over time)
I remember in a show (not real/animated), a guy in space took his arm space suit thing off and threw it it to give himself enough momentum to move back to his ship
If I could fart like Wario then getting off that pond would be easy. Better than throwing a boot because I'll have to walk around the pond to get the boot back and my toes would have frostbite by then, assuming the ice doesn't break.
I don't remember how it went exactly but someone explained how genji from overwatch double jumps. They said something like how in order for him to double jump he'd have to be moving so fast that he can kick off the air to double jump.don't quote me on this because I can't remember if this is what he actually said
papabless shhhhhh Some things just happen for the sake of the videogame Or at least that's what Jeff Kaplan said, there's no need for science in everything
He has thrusters in the bottom of his feet. The deliver thrust equal to his weight/mass X 2. So if he weighed 145 lbs, it would deliver 290 lbs of upward force. The first 145 lbs of force stop him, the other 145 boost him higher.
What would happen if saiyama (one punch man) punched the earth or ground, what would happened? Idk if his name is actually saiyama, I don't watch anime.

Imagine if I can somehow generate a random block of a size and mass of my body directly beneath me after the initial jump and use it as the ground to take another jump will it actually work?
It wouldn't give you a full second jump unless the object is able to resist gravity in some form. Otherwise you'd push again the object sending it down faster than gravity would otherwise pull it while gaining a negligible boost. If anything it might slow your decent by a fraction of a second.
Use your science and make the dragons from Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 real. I'm talking weight, size, keflon like scales, muscle, carrying a full grown adult on their back, and a napalm like breath weapon so hot that it incinerates people on contact.... And go!
4:32 Okay, while you *would* start moving in the opposite direction of the way you threw the boot, it's not because you're losing mass. You start moving because of Newton's third law: "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." The action of throwing the boot has the reaction of pushing you backwards. *That's* why you move.

Meh. Worthy sacrifices for the promise of the double jump.
Here is question. If you were lying on frictionless ice, could you stand up? Maybe it sounds stupid, but think about it...
2:38 "Oh no"
I'm sorry, are you Mario or Consuela?
He's knuckles obviosly oh no.
When you see someone lift their legs quickly while mid-jump, they are basically giving themself a little boost.
"Are you full of pasta and fasul, what's fasul?" 😂😂
Question of the eon: Would a Death Note be possible?
I mean if you have the technology to kill any given human, then adding the notebook functionality (which requires knowing their name and face, as well as writting on paper from the book) would just reduce your capabilities.
Then we must think of a new solution. Hope Nerdist sees these posts ^ ^
I actually didn't read the TLDR part XD
Anyways... I guess nanobots would be a solution...
6:51 it's not double jump, it's rocket jump
I CAN DOUBLE JUMP, IM BRAZILIAN
I know one person that could throw his clothes down at 350 miles per hour.
The FLASH
(He wouldn't mind it either *wink*)
Joseph A
He wouldn't need to because he can just move his legs fast enough to
But I see what you mean, and I agree 😏
i know he can, but why would he want to he can already run through air and the nothingness of space, so him being able to double jump isn't somethhing that would require him to take of his clothes
well the name flash would be fitting for someone to take their clothes off that quick
the flash running around naked... Would that not cause problems for his balls? i guess they would get stretched out dangling behind his ass... Or would it get so chilly, he'd get a shrinkage thereby protecting his balls? XD
Aleirhk Metha you really put a lot of thought into the idea of naked flash's balls.
"it touched me" you are hilarious man!!
Brazilians can double jump.
Scout: hold my bonk
"im still in frame bye" Earned my sub XD
Hey Kyle, love the videos! Also, could you do a video on how long the human torch could stay on fire, and where he gets the energy to light himself from?
So basicaly if i was holding something heavy and then threw it midair i could double jump??
İlker Kaya that's right
ilker Kaya you could of just said no
noah breding or maybe he could explain to make someone understand then question why not
Tom DeLonge Fucks My Ass unless you are falling to the platform then no, and it's Technically not a double jump if you land on the platform
what about solidifying air to double jump?
So now theoretically we can double jump, but some games have a triple jump, so how would a naked flying person who just double jumped, get a third jump with nothing to throw at this point
cjack353 youll have to ehaculate at 360 km/hour
annonym surfer sounds painful but IT MUST BE DONE!
i mean, who needs skin
Get explosive diarea. Force it out with 550 km/h and you'll fly.
Is flying using airbending like in legend of korra physically possible?
the BOSSTI guy...
the BOSSTI
He's an airbender. I think the name itself is enough evidence.
If he can bend air, why shouldn't he?
It's basically using a wingsuit with controlled winds- so if you could control wind, then yes.
As long as you have a large enough surface to create sufficient enough lift under ideal circumstances (Aang's kite for example) then yes, one who can control wind would be able to fly.
5:26 I guess the game "Unbox: Newbie's Adventure"'s double jump makes sense, since you drop part of the box.
Hidden Shadow I love terraria
"Thank you so much for watching, Mario" is how it should have ended
I love how the answer is so obvious but the guy made an effort explaining literally every single thing on the physics of Jumping.
Nerdist: double jumping is basically impossible
Scout: I AM AN INVINCIBLE UNICOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO- *head explodes*
3:52 Just..........stop imagining
You don't need to remove your clothes, just hold them
I was thinking why not just carry 1kg in extra weight that could be ejected.
Or better yet a ten kilo weight, therefore making it easier by that factor?
Every kg you take up with you would increase your double jump height, but reduce your first jump's height by the same amount.
Nick Combs yea you are gonna carry the clothes
1) what is the atmospheric pressure of the Mushroom Kingdom?
2) What is the gravity of the Mushroom Kingdom?
Also, if I remember correctly they are wearing cybepunk like spring and weight geared boots and gauntlets given to them as commissioned heroes that allows them to jump like that and punch bricks and/or stomp foes, pick up throw things
You do realize that Mario breaks the block with his hand not his head
I missed -- KH
*T H E R E W I L L B E B L O O D S H E D*
Technically you can still double jump to a degree by moving your legs like a jump midair gives you about 10 or so more Milliseconds of airtime but you’ll only get maybe a couple of centimeters from it
but if you have a brazilian blood...
(perhaps by compressing air over time)
Titanfall!
Brazilians can double jump
@Jack Raiden SHED!
I remember in a show (not real/animated), a guy in space took his arm space suit thing off and threw it it to give himself enough momentum to move back to his ship
I'm trying to surpass Jetstream sam
Hey kyle!! Is energy shielding possible like in the Halo games?!
yes but extremely inefficient use of energy
they explain it in halo, you would literally need a miniature nuclear reactor or power cell of some kind.
1:05 Actually Kyle, it could a magical synthetic compound of mushroom and brick.
Can i double jump if i poop in the air?
If you can shit two kilograms above 350 mph then yea i suppose you could
just make sure you don't have pants on when you poop
Why not fart like Wario?
If I could fart like Wario then getting off that pond would be easy. Better than throwing a boot because I'll have to walk around the pond to get the boot back and my toes would have frostbite by then, assuming the ice doesn't break.
No, you poop too slow.
I've secretly been wondering this my entire life, thank you.
Does this mean that Mirio Togata can double jump with his quirk
The metallic Hedgehog IM SCREAMING OMG CAN HE?!!
Brazilians can double jump
(This is a reference)
Shed
The only one
Left
Because the mountains don't give back what they take
Oh no! There will be blood
If you’re Brazilian, yes
How realistic is the Nanosuit from the game Cruises ? ( Maximum Armor, superspeed, invisible ... )
You totally look like Thor
Can't Brazilians double jump?
I like how DooM tackles the double jump with those boots
"You can't double jump irl 🤓"
Yeah! also brazilians doesn't exist
I don't remember how it went exactly but someone explained how genji from overwatch double jumps. They said something like how in order for him to double jump he'd have to be moving so fast that he can kick off the air to double jump.don't quote me on this because I can't remember if this is what he actually said
I think ti was one of Austins videos
papabless shhhhhh
Some things just happen for the sake of the videogame
Or at least that's what Jeff Kaplan said, there's no need for science in everything
He has thrusters in the bottom of his feet. The deliver thrust equal to his weight/mass X 2. So if he weighed 145 lbs, it would deliver 290 lbs of upward force. The first 145 lbs of force stop him, the other 145 boost him higher.
COMMIT SEPPUKU IMMEDIATELY IF YOU PERFORM A TRIPLE JUMP
Chuck Noris doesn't push himself up when he jumps, he pushes the planet down.
What would happen if saiyama (one punch man) punched the earth or ground, what would happened? Idk if his name is actually saiyama, I don't watch anime.
*Saitama
Good try though.
what wuld happen if u carried an object equal or more than your mass. then jumped off the ground threw the object and jumped on it
Boobs Migie But that doesn't count as "double-jumping"
GOD DAMNIT JETSTREAM SAMS DLC IS THE EXACT REASON IM HERE..!
Kyle's Mario is so *Cringy*
Ikr
Memories broken
The truth goes unspoken
I’ve even forgotten my name
I don’t know the season
Or what is the reason
I’m standing here holding my blade
A desolate place
Without any trace
It’s only the cold wind I feel
It’s me that I spite
As I stand up and fight
The only thing I know for real
There will be blood-shed
The man in the mirror nods his head
The only one left
Will ride upon the dragon’s back
Because the mountains don’t give back what they take
Oh no
There will be blood-shed
It’s the only thing I’ve ever known
Losing my identity
Wondering have I gone insane
To find the truth in front of me
I must climb this mountain range
Looking downward from this deadly height
And never realizing why I fight
As a certified average Brazilian male , I can confirm we are able to double jump .
Imagine if I can somehow generate a random block of a size and mass of my body directly beneath me after the initial jump and use it as the ground to take another jump will it actually work?
Kevin Salim yes
No. You'd just send the object down at a faster speed.
And go!
onward771 Why make a GoT dragon when he could make Gogmazios?
4:32 Okay, while you *would* start moving in the opposite direction of the way you threw the boot, it's not because you're losing mass. You start moving because of Newton's third law: "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." The action of throwing the boot has the reaction of pushing you backwards. *That's* why you move.
U look like Thor lol
Yeah it's kinda a thing now and my hair is too long and it's a hassle. -- KH
Nerdist you misspelled glorious.
he's SCIENCE THOR
***** Still worth it tho😁
