James' voice is brilliant in both the heavier, gritty tones and the more clean, warm and soulful tones. Part of why I love the Load and Reload albums from '96 and '97

Kirk is playing (visually customised) a Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster. They're sweet guitars (existing also in Telecaster and Stratocaster body shapes), very good for quieter acoustic on-the-couch strumming, but they really shine when plugged in as they combine what are essentially Fishman Aura guitar emulations (based on impulse responses) of various dreadnought and smaller guitars in a variety of wood combinations, as they sound almost as good as the real thing mic'd up without feedback issues, excellent for live and more than acceptable for the recording of only guitar demos or even, if need be, proper releasable tracks when they're in the mix with other sounds. And then there's the Tim Shaw noiseless pickup (a humbucker in the Jazzmaster and single coils in the other two models) for quick switching to electric. Perfect for precisely this kind of live use, as travel guitars and much more. Some other famous players have also adopted them, like Sting and Jack White.

Another quality vid by Justin Hawkins! James did the most compelling version of Eddie Money's Baby Hold On to Me at the Eddie memorial. Check it out. Haunting and beautiful. Justin, please come back to Seattle. I discovered The Darkness and your channel crucial weeks after you came here on your 2022 tour stop. Ouch.
I think Metallica are great lovers of this music. Still they are huge *fans* of this music. Look how diverse things can do ! This is what keeps them. That was an amazing cover and i feel James has an exceptional way of showing all kind of emotions by his singing. That making him even greater performer ! Remarkable for 41 years band still shinning !
I learnt the Cadd9 thing way back when I was first starting to play guitar in the early 90s - one of the first songs I tried to learn was "I remember you" by Skid Row - they use that chord in the accoustic parts - and it's stuck with me ever since, to the extent that I virtually never play a regular ol' Cmaj any more! And there's an interesting connection with Jon Bon Jovi there too. Snake Sabo from Skid Row was Bon Jovi's original lead guitarist...so maybe it's more than just JH's vocals that sound like Bon Jovi...the Cadd9 might be reminiscent of them also!
One of your best videos Justin. I appreciate the trouble you go to in delivering this! Metallica, Thin Lizzy and Madonna all in one video - yes, we can like all three equally! I wish were old enough to have seen the Queen Lizzy tour when Thin Lizzy toured with Queen. Yes, please do a video about Madonna’s Borderline. I love her early material.

Great guitar lesson Justin.
Thin Lizzy are absolutely one of the most under rated bands ever. Phil Lynott' (it is Lie-not) was such a great songwriter and Borderline is yet another. I really enjoyed this cover, James kept it a bit understated like the original and the guitar solos are not messed with. Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks for the review!
Ouch.
Sweet. One of my favorite Lizzy tunes.
I think waking up to you playing guitar would be quite lovely. 😊
Excellent choice. FYI- I love putting an actual ninth on a chord for piano / keys. I can reach a tenth and it adds a unique quality to my playing.
I just learnt to do a Cadd9 on piano by learning the intro to Close to You by the Carpenters.
Please watch Alter bridge live at the royal Albert Hall. Performing Words darker than their wings. It’s my favourite live performance I have ever witnessed. Great videos and I hope you are doing well my friend.
Also for anyone out there that ever has the opportunity to meet Justin, he is one of the nicest guys in show business. I live near where he was from and used to run into him in a certain coffee chain. Had a really decent chat with him on one occasion and was just blown away.
The C9 to G9 setup that is also known as “Every Rose has a Thorn”. 🤣
And, always a joy to see Justin slip into “fan boy” mode when he talks about Metallica.
Happy New Year Justin! I trust this note finds you and yours in good health. Cheers to an insane amount of "riding again" in 2023!!!
That’s how you cover a classic love it 👌
Excellent show👍
Cowboy Song (live) by Thin Lizzy was my intro to their majesty x
I was just waiting for his parents to come in and tell him off the entire time. Slightly disappointed they didn't
Damn. That guitar sounds sweet!
Hello Justin would you like to review an "indian folk metal" band Bloodywood with terrific mix of instruments and vocals. I recommend the song "Dana Dan" its mindblowing besides the album is outstanding. Cheers.
Anderton’s featured those acoustic fenders a lot last year. Should be available on clearance
