I can answer that for you. I recall it being publicly announced that in her mind, it wasn't her night, that the attention, if you will shouldn't be on her so much as it should be on the contestants and eventual winner. I don't think there is an actual rule or protocol that requires the outgoing Miss America wear it for the next years finals.
@@AndrewHuy i guess you should contact the state organizers for that pageant and see if you can find out- i had never even thought before just now that some states might have the previous winner crowning her successor without wearing her crown she won the previous year. How do you know this? have you seen the California (for Miss America and not USA, right?) pageant either in person, on tv or in photo or video press releases of the crowning enough years in a row to be confident in this not having just been a trend at one point for several years? I know that in the photo press releases for the Miss Delaware (America) pageant, everyone i have ever seen, the previous years winners doing the crowning is wearing her crown. A great long time friend of mine was a Miss DE USA winner who then went on to fame winning a Gordon Ramsay Top Chef season two contest, and although I have only seen her crown and winning sash, I'll have to ask I she wore hers when she crowned her successor. I dont doubt your sincerity and knowledge, but I would highly doubt it has been that way from the first year of the Miss California pageant, but rather something that has happened later on in say, the last 30 years. There is NO rule stating that any reigning Miss America MUST wear her crown from the year before when crowning her successor. Its not in the contract. She DOES however have to take it with her during her year when talking to different groups, because a lot of the winners talks involve promoting the pageant scholarship program and the ideals it espouses and in taking out the crown she explains the meanings of each of the- how many are there- is it 4, or 5, points on the state crowns and Miss America crowns.
