You looked great out there, Ben! What an experience, it's so cool to hear you feeling the same as us mid-pack age groupers about the pure energy of the race and Roth itself. Well done indeed!
Can I just say, I love hearing you talk about how new you are to the Ironman distance? Not just because it’s cool to see how successful you are right out of the starting gate, but because it’s EQUALLY cool and validating to see such a high-level pro in long-distance triathlon who’s still a “novice” to Ironman. At least for me as an age-grouper, I feel like there’s so much pressure to move to full-distance as soon as possible, especially because that’s what non-triathletes immediately assume when you say you’re a triathlete. “Oh wow, you’re a triathlete? So like, that means you’re an Ironman, right? You’ve done an IRONMAN? Dude, when’s your next Ironman?” It’s really refreshing, honest to God, to see the opposite perspective from such a high-caliber pro-sticking with the distance you enjoy most or are best at, moving up to Ironman only when you know you’re ready and want to, and letting triathlon mean to you what it means to YOU. That’s cool as hell.
greate edfort and obviously result to back it up. happy to hear you re doing a big races year, especially as an american . this year seems most north american based athletes are avoiding those.
Brilliant Bicycling Ben @ Roth, its amazing you stating that effort @ 340 watts for forty-five minutes until settling down, that is just freaking Amazing!!! What are your expectations for Madison WI? Will it be a good transition back to "speed" work to be firing those fast twitch muscle fibers over the quick 100km PTO distance? Did you drink a Hefeweizen? Super Congratz on best ever performance from an American at Roth! Woohoo!!
Ben, woohoo! Go USA! Congrats, what a fabulous race; so happy for you! God bless you and your fam, Megan ps. when you get tired of those hot wheels just lemme know, I'm looking to upgrade my TT! 😁
