Twin Point: Little Known Overlook of the Grand Canyon

- Twin Point is a seldom-visited viewpoint overlooking the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona. The drive to get there starts in St. George Utah and takes you through part of the Arizona Strip and the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument.

Been to the North Rim. We went through the main entrance where the Buffalo are and where the lodge is. Thanks for showing a different view from a different entrance. I really enjoyed it ☺️.
Wow, you're just watching all our tours! Glad to see you're enjoying them. That part of the Grand Canyon isn't really an entrance. But, that's our thing - back roads.

Sitting at home today -21C and found this video, Thanks. This was a small vacation in its self. Right into my travel folder.
Wow! Where's that? Here in Southern Utah, in went from 60 down into the 40s! Burrr!! But it does normally get down into the 20s this time of the year.
That was FANTASTIC! We are planning to do this same trip in 3 months. Such a clear and well-edited presentation of what we can expect. Looking forward to making a video for my National Parks channel. New subscriber and friend here!

I've been planning a trip to Twin and Kelly Points for a few months now. Great Video!
Thank you! Keep in mind that Kelly Point is difficult to get to with an SUV due to the overgrown vegetation. Either a side-by-side, motorcycle (dirt bike) or even a mountain bike would be a better option. Check conditions with BLM office in St. George.

The family took a road trip last year and we made our first stop at the grand canyon at the skywalk, it was surreal and the picture we took looks too much like a backdrop but it is in fact the grand canyon! Now I want to go see it from this vantage point!

Used to run out there when checking Oak Grove house. The biggest thing out there is 2 spares. And BLM map. Roads are marked fairly well.
I visited the North Rim in June 2018 and fell in love with Arizona and southern Utah! I wish I had known about places like this while there. What a beautiful place that any nature lover should visit at least once. I hope to return very soon and attempt this little jaunt. Do they offer BLM field trips often? I would definitely want the safety in numbers. That terrain is no joke! Helpful video, thanks!
Thanks for the kudos and glad you found the video helpful. Yes, the BLM holds field trips monthly, but during the cooler months. They operate out of the BLM office in St. George on River Road near the Bluff St exit. Read more at www.d-asia.org/

Great video! This was done about perfect, showing the map with ample time to follow where you were and where you were going. Were you able to see the Colorado River at any point on this trip?
Thanks for the kind words! No, the river isn't viewable from there or nearby Kelly Point. One of these days, we'll make it out to Kanab Point, where you can see the river.
So awesome have watched this 3 times now...Question we have a Hyundai Santa Fe all wheel drive...thoughts ground clearance is 185mm...or 7.82 inches
Sorry, I'm not familiar with the vehicle. Furthermore, the road conditions change every year. The best thing to do is try the road and use your best judgement. The types of tires you have is also important. They should be all terrain and not normal tires. Normal tires run the risk of rock punctures and you'll be over 70 miles from any services. I've known someone that had 5 flats in one day out there!
Heading here on a day trip from camp at Whitney Pocket seems doable, wouldn't you say? Headed there in February.
Be careful going to Twin Pt in winter - lots of muddy roads, especially if there has been lots of snow. We've run into serious mud in May even. Good luck.

I'm fine going to remote places, but, man, I really hate washboard. Concerns over that have kept me out of places like the AZ Strip. So what's the road surface like?

I have Toyota Sienna 2wd with AT tires..will a van make it through at twin point?
No. You would certainly dent and ruin the undercarriage and possibly get stuck. Be safe and take a 4WD.
Can you tell me if atv's are aloud and at what point. Also thanks for another awesome video and new place to go.
Yes. All the way. Usually, there are more ATVs out there than 4WDs. Glad you enjoyed it!

6:26. Sometimes, it's hard to find anything in wilderness areas that are unventilated by gunshot holes. Road signs in particular.
Sometimes that is done due to them not wanting the tank to hold water anymore for wild burros.

I noticed on the topo maps, the point goes a bit further on about a mile or so.. is there no way the the very tip of that point?
No, the road goes right to the end. The thumbnail picture of this video (with the person standing looking over the edge) is actually taken at the very point.
I always call them by wrong one. 😅. Twin is one through Oak Grove. Kelly over by Dellenbaugh/Mokeac Well. The online interactive map is great. As of Feb 24
Google Earth folks. Always. DON'T go without map. And you can go in from Saint George and out over Lime Kiln Pass or Whitney Pass. Pakoon. If Whitney Pass you can hit artesian wells. Lime Kiln route out is more scenic. Drops into Mesquite. Other out through cedar pocket and Bunkerville/Gold Butte.
A day trip out of St George is best. The distances are great in the Arizona Strip, easy to over estimate. Going over Lime Kiln to Mesquite or a visit to Gold Butte will easily add 4-8 hours onto an already day-long trip. However, if you're camping, no problem, go wherever you want with the days you have.
@@BackRoadsWest1 it is a good way to go. I did not know groups went. When I come out again will holler. Worked there. Which is why I have been to most places and understand the layout and timelines. The worst trip was up to BlackRock from Mesquite. Those rocks sticking out of the dirt lol.
Last trip out was 2009. The NPS road was tight. Brush trees close. Tight.
Might have been Kelly with brush/trees. Looks Exactly the same. If late in day Sun is glaring. Camping is better. Get up take photos in AM.

I would guess yes. I'd check with the BLM office in St. George. It definitely is in Grand Canyon Parashant.

Would I be able to do this on my lifted tundra 2wd with all terrain?
You don't need a lifted vehicle. The roads are generally in good shape. Just muddy in winter and late spring. With a wider vehicle (we have a gen 2 4Runner which is narrow), expect to get what we affectionally call "Arizona pinstriping", which are the shrubs on the 2-3 miles of the road. Good luck!

One-way: 3-4 hours. We live in St. George, so we left at 9am and didn't get back until 5pm. It also depends on road conditions; like right now after the rain, I wouldn't even attempt it because of the "killer mud".
It's an all day affair. Go out spend the night come back. Same with Toroweap. Oak Grove is where 1019 goes. It has Mount Dellenbaugh and Mokeac Well. Trees. Trumbull is high area 22 miles from Toroweap. Great wandering area. 4600 miles of roads 400 miles maintained.
Is it necessary to have a truck thats 4x4. Or can it be a 2wd
This is a very remote area. Road conditions change every month. You definitely need high-clearance, but 2WD might be ok. You'll have to make the call when you see the road conditions.

The guy in the lead Jeep in that tour told us all about driving cattle down the road you and I were on, through St. George up Bluff Street, then all the way to the railhead to Modena. I can't imagine a job like that. You may not know it, but you are doing a job that people only dream of doing!!

1:08, there’s really a Black Lives Matter (BLM) visitors center in St. George?
Sadly, in these days, people don't realize that BLM has always stood for
Bureau of Land Management.
I have no idea why BLM/NPS won’t just pave roads to Vermillion Cliffs and this park. So much tourism money lost to them and the state of Arizona.
Have you visited these places? They are both remote and would require engineering feats to cross canyons and ridges. It would be very expensive. The video you commented on is in the GC Parashant and 90 miles from pavement - actually a freeway in south St. George.
