Quick question! For that free template... is there a way to insert your document all at once or do you have to manually copy and paste everything in? I might have missed that part in the series if you mentioned it.

Sheesh, I had no idea. My book is completed in Microsoft Word and I thought I could just upload it and go - not. So, I'm going to watch all your formatting videos and hopefully learn how to do this right. My book is titled (sorry, can't say) and is 152 pages. I hope I can figure out what to do so that it looks right. Thanks for doing these vids.

Hi, Bethany, in my view your articulation is the most clear and useful, thank you. I just draft a book in Chinese. I seek for an advice if I may : using D2D for Chinese formatting I face : 1) the font in Chinese is not what I want, are there different letter fonts available or only one type of font for all books in English; 2) once uploaded the draft onto D2D, I can’t do anything to type on the document, is this correct? Hi! I’m having trouble with taking off the header for the first page in a chapter.
I took your advice and used the Amazon format template (the one that had the examples already on there) so I just inputted what I had so far on my book, but since the template example only goes up to chapter 10, I don’t know how to start the first page without it having a header. Every time I try to start a new chapter, the header comes out on top.
Any suggestions on what I can do?
I'm really enjoying all your tips. Thanks for all you provide. My question is regarding "copyright". A lot of my book uses quotes from movies, song lyrics to make jokes about playing a sport. For example, I'd write "That's the way, uh huh, uh huh, I like it, tune by KC & the Sunshine Band." "You complete me from Jerry Maquire movie". Do I have to get approval from all the movies, song writers, etc if I use their language? If so, my book is toast. My book is a compilation of puns and jokes. Thanks for your response.

I know your images within the book are blk, but I was hoping you can answer a question for me. Thank you for doing this series! I've gotten a lot of the formatting stuff figured out but, for the life of me, I cannot seem to get images aligned properly. Everything comes out skewed when I convert to mobi. Can't wait to watch the rest of these videos because I feel like I've missed a step somewhere!

Thank you so much for putting this course together! It comes at such a good time for me. One question, is it possible to have pretty chapter headings and images/maps in mobi and epub files? Do they transfer across if they exist in the word document? None of D2Ds headers suit my books. Thank you!
Glad you're enjoying! I talk about this a lot in the chapter header video, but while chapter header images will show up, the ebook formatting won't recognize them for the table of contents. From what I can tell, ebooks are supposed to have this (maybe even required), so I personally stick with text. You could consider using a regular font text, but creating an extra image for above or below it.

I do have a video request for you on a different topic. If this is something you feel like talking about, I think you'd do it really well.
I struggle with a variation of impostor syndrome... I have this feeling of not being worthy as a writer unless I control *every single detail* of the writing process. For instance, I recently got an idea "out of the blue" on what the next scene of my story should be... I could tell it was a brilliant idea. But because I wasn't brainstorming at the moment, I felt I didn't deserve this idea -- that I hadn't put in the effort to earn the right to use it.
I have this need of feeling that I'm in ownership of what I write -- that I *have to* feel this way in order to be proud of my work in the end.
I get it if this is unfamiliar to most other creatives... When I expressed this problem on a forum, the response I was met with seemed to mirror the undertones of, *"WHO ARE YOU to think that you're better than other writers?"*
However, my very beliefs and feelings on this issue do not come from wanting "to be better" than anyone else: they come from a place of vulnerability; from having been wounded through many instances of life, ultimately leading to very strict criteria of worthiness -- to the belief that I have to work very hard to deserve *every inch* of my progress.
I can tell that I'm in a bad place because of feeling this way; it prevents me from enjoying the creative process and from feeling proud of my own work. *I really need* a mind shift...
So that's why it'd be great if you could make a video on the topic of worthiness as a writer, if you're OK with it: hopefully offering some insights into how to adapt to the mindset that it's OK not to be fully in control of every step of the creative process, and that it's also OK to receive help in the process, and have "good fortune" deliver some great ideas to us once in a while.
All of these things I listed, I understand *intellectually* -- but what can I do to *feel* differently about this? How can I feel that I am worthy as a writer -- worthy of feeling proud of my work -- even if I don't fully control every aspect of my process?
Of course, you should only make a video on this if you feel like talking about it. I respect a no if you feel the topic doesn't suit you.

Thank you so much for sharing! Never feel bad for your writing experience, I'm sorry they made you feel that way! I am a firm believer that everyone has their own unique struggles and one type of struggle does not diminish another, we all have to work through something. The first step is recognizing what's holding you back which it sounds like you are, and the next step is figuring out how to address it, so I'm wishing you the best as you work on that! You definitely don't need Vellum, I have never used it! (That said, if you ever *did* want to use it though, I've had multiple people who have a PC tell me that you can rent space on the apple cloud and I think they rent vellum as well, although I'm not totally sure how it all works... but if you were really wanting to use it while owning a PC, that's an option! :)
Does those templates also work for Google docs?
I have a question if anyone can tell me, I know a lot of people write their book on a different software than the software they will format their book with, my question is how do they transfer their manuscript into the formating software without issues?

I wanted to use Vellum, but that would mean buying a Mac plus the software. I might do it because I'm planning a series and it'll pay for itself, but I'd only use the Mac for formatting....I love my PC.
Question: Bethany, when you write your manuscript do you write directly into the template or write on the typical page size then copy/paste into the template?
Totally fair! Like I said in the video, for people with a PC, I think you can rent space in the cloud and still use Vellum, but I've never done it myself so that's the extent of my knowledge on that :)
And I personally like to write directly in the template, it makes me feel more like I'm writing a real book haha
Is the template download page dead?
I just spent twenty minutes on the website combing through the blizzard of promotional text and I can't find it anywhere.
In his imbedded video he talks about 'signing up below' but there is nowhere and no link to sign up.
There 'is' a massive orange 'download' button but it just take me to a website selling some marketing service called optinmonster.
There is also a 'formatting' tab at the top but that just takes you to another section of his website that is selling a formatting template package for $47 (with the obligatory notification letting you know that the original cost is $197).
Where is the link for the template?
This is starting to feel like a bait and switch deal or at least that the free template is no longer offered on the site and instead the link has been redirected to some product that is for sale.
Hi Bethany! I have a question. Ok, at the end of every chapter, the last sentence is spaced apart and I don’t know how to fix it. Example: Alice went to the Store. My husband formatted the way you suggested and it caused this to happen! What do you suggest? Thank you so much for your time! 😊
